I know it's short, but I shall be making the next chapter now c:
Enjoy~
It has been a few days later, and Ikki-kun has been getting used to his new life. He still didn't accept it completely, and he didn't see this as his permanent home, but he would stay there, for now. The professor had told him about his shoulder too, so even he knew he had to be careful about it.
Recently he's been spending more time with Ai rather than the professed himself. He noticed how Ai never really hurt him even when he irritated him or when they play-fighted. Which was mostly his fault every time.
Maybe he could trust him. After all, he wouldn't last long unless he trusted someone.
The professor has been out for the afternoon, going food shopping and such for them. Ai and Ikki were home, and Ai was supposed to be watching Ikki, despite being old and mature enough to watch himself.
Sure he was wild sometimes and could eat the whole kitchen, but he was mature. Ikki-kun sighed as he lazily sat on the couch, just resting and thinking. Ai was in his room, doing who knows what.
This was his chance, he could leave, but he didn't want to. Where would he go anyway? He wasn't stupid. He didn't know where he was, or where the academy was. Well, the good thing about all this happening is that he finally learned his past.
He was a creation, not born from a mother. He had no parents, unless the professor counted. Ai was probably the closet thing to his brother, like Otoya, even though he liked him.
'Yeah... Liked...' For some reason, he didn't feel anything for Otoya anymore. Otoya chose that idiotic Tokiya over him, but that was Otoya's choice. He had to accept it and move on.
With another sigh, Ikki sat up. "I'm bored..." He murmured, wondering what to do. He had already explored the house in boredom a few days before, and he even found a blood collar that said Miguel on it. Which was apparently his old name.
He then tilted his head, thinking of an idea. After he found out he had different animal bloods inside him, he had tried out making animal noises. He could bark and meow in any pitch, whine or howl, anything you can think of that was able to be done by the human throat.
Getting up, he went to fetch the collar which he put in a cabinet in the kitchen, next to his favorite treats that the professor still remembered about. Doritos.
Though he ignored them for now, just grabbing the collar. He looked at the tag on it that said 'Miguel', humming slightly. When he left the kitchen, he looked towards the hall where Ai's room was, which was where he mostly slept.
Walking to the door quietly, he kept the collar in hand. That is until he reached the door, before crouching down, almost looking like a dog sitting. He placed the collar in his mouth, holding it with his teeth so no saliva got on it, before he began scratching on the door playfully.
"Ikki-kun, I would enjoy it if you didn't scratch on my door." He heard Ai say, and he just whined like a lost pup, scratching on the door more. He heard footsteps soon enough, and soon the door opened.
"Ikki, you better-..." Ai trailed off, having to look down to see Ikki. He was surprised to see him sitting there, looking up at him like a pet saw his master. And in his mouth was his old collar. Hesitantly, Ai took the collar, looking at Ikki.
The redhead just gave a bark with a smile, and Ai sighed, still not used to a human barking. He then kneeled down, Ikki moving closer before sitting again.
"You want me to put this on you?" Ai asked and Ikki nodded. "I don't see why but fine." He said, moving the collar around Ikki's neck, making sure it was loose. "There."
"Thanks." Ikki said, looking at Ai. "So, when will we do something fun?"
"Fun? Like what?" Ai asked and Ikki hummed, trying to think.
"We could always go out back and throw a Frisbee." Ikki said with a teasing smirk, and Ai sighed softly. "You aren't a real dog."
"You're right. I'm everything! A German shepherd, a golden retriever, a Jack Russel Terrier, a greyhound, and a boxer." Ikki said, still smirking.
"You forgot Irish settler and Great Dane. And you're not just dog genes too." Ai said, and Ikki closed his eyes, trying to remember what else. "Whatever was in the lab was what was given to you. Do you remember?"
"... Russian Blue cat, a tabby cat, a cougar..? Did you guys really have a cougar in that lab!?"
"It was a female, and her paw was broken." Ai explained.
"Hmm... Wolf was definitely one. A Fox?" Ikki said with a sigh. "You guys are more like a zoo."
"Well, now we just have basic house pets, and a few dangerous animals here and there, like foxes." Ai said. Ikki hasn't been in the lab since he was first examined, and he wasn't even awake for that. He didn't want to go in the lab, already knowing there would be cages. He was still claustrophobic.
"So I've heard." Ikki said softly, looking at Ai. He tilted his head, before smiling, surprising the light blue haired male. "Come on, let's do something fun. Let's sing."
"Sing?" Ai asked. He was surprised Ikki of all people would suggest that. Singing together?
"Don't you sing? Let's pick a song and sing it together."
"I... Will decline. How about you sing instead?" Ai asked, not really wanting to sing. Besides, he would have to wait. In a few months, he and his group, Quartet Night, will have to go to the new academy where Starish will be going. Won't that be fun?
"Fine... What do you want me to sing?" Ikki asked and Ai shrugged, standing up. Ikki stood as well, following Ai who sat on the couch. "Sing whatever you want, I'll watch."
Ikki hummed, trying to think of a song. He then smiled, looking at Ai. "Fine then. But I'll need your help."
"I said I won't sing."
"But there's a girl part and I don't want to sing high pitched!" Ikki whined and Ai's eye almost twitched. He wasn't a girl.
"Fine, but I'm not putting my heart into it..."
Ikki: I'm just a step away
I'm just a breath away
Losin' my faith today
After a moment, Ai rolled his eyes and softly sang.
Ai: (Fallin' off the edge today)
Ikki: I am just a man
Not superhuman
Ai: (I'm not superhuman)
Ikki: Someone save me from the hate
It's just another war
Just another family torn
Ai: (Falling from my faith today)
Ikki: Just a step from the edge
Just another day in the world we live
I need a hero to save me now
I need a hero
Ai: (save me now)
Ikki: I need a hero to save my life
A hero'll save me
Ai: (just in time)
Ikki: I've gotta fight today
To live another day
Speakin' my mind today
Ai: (My voice will be heard today)
Slowly, Ai was starting to get into it. After all, it was just for fun, right? And Ikki seemed happy he was singing.
Ikki: I've gotta make a stand
But I am just a man
Ai:(I'm not superhuman)
Ikki: My voice will be heard today
It's just another war
Just another family torn
Ai: (My voice will be heard today)
Ikki: It's just another kill
The countdown begins to destroy ourselves
Ikki: I need a hero to save me now
I need a hero
Ai: (save me now)
Ikki: I need a hero to save my life
A hero'll save me
Ai: (just in time)
Ikki: I need a hero to save my life
I need a hero just in time
Save me just in time
Save me just in time
Ikki & Ai: Who's gonna fight for what's right
Who's gonna help us survive
Ikki: We're in the fight of our lives
Ai: (And we're not ready to die)
Ikki & Ai: Who's gonna fight for the weak
Who's gonna make 'em believe
Ikki: I've got a hero
Ai: (I've got a hero)
Ikki: Livin' in me
Ikki: I'm gonna fight for what's right
Today I'm speaking my mind
And if it kills me tonight
Ai: (I will be ready to die)
Ikki: A hero's not afraid to give his life
A hero's gonna save me just in time
Ikki: I need a hero to save me now
I need a hero
Ai: (save me now)
Ikki: I need a hero to save my life
A hero'll save me
Ai: (just in time)
Ikki: I need a hero
Ikki & Ai: Who's gonna fight for what's right
Who's gonna help us survive
I need a hero
Who's gonna fight for the weak
Who's gonna make 'em believe
I need a hero
I need a hero
A hero's gonna save me just in time
Ikki tilted his head, looking at Ai. The boy was looking away, huffing.
"That was awesome." Ikki said, moving onto the couch and sitting beside Ai.
"It was just singing."
"It wasn't just singing. It was fun. And singing is supposed to be from the soul, don't you know that?" Ikki asked, surprising Ai. Ikki actually knew that? He thought the stubborn redhead wouldn't care about singing from the heart.
"I guess.."
"It's not an I guess," Ikki said with a frown, looking at Ai. "Singing is supposed to come from the heart and soul. It explains you. A good song always makes you feel good, but a true song makes you feel special. You get goosebumps, and an overwhelming feeling fills you. That is what singing from the heart does."
Ai looked at Ikki in concealed shock. Just maybe, Ikki was a true singer. Ai reached over, patting Ikki's head awkwardly. "Yes yes. I know... Sorry, I'm just distracted today." He lied softly.
"What's distracting you?" Ikki asked, tilting his head.
"Nothing much. Just the academy I'll be going to in a few months."
"You're leaving?!"
"You're coming with me." Ai said, amused that Ikki seemed upset by him leaving. "It's a singing academy."
"Oh, that will be fun." Ikki said with a smile. If only the redhead knew that Otoya and Starish would be there too.
"Yeah. So rest your voice for now." Ai said.
"Oh, wait! You should see what I can do!" Ikki said with a proud smile. "I don't know how I learned it, but look at what I can do."
Ai was about to ask what it was, but then he heard a high pitched noise. It was like a dog reacting to a dog whistle. Ai covered his ears, trying to find the noise. His eyes widened slightly when he realized it was coming from Ikki's throat.
"Don't do that!" Ai said quickly, afraid Ikki would damage his throat. It would ruin his career. Ikki immediately stopped, not used to Ai speaking loudly. "I don't want you hurting your throat. Then you won't be able to sing."
"Sorry." Ikki said softly, looking down.
"It's okay." Ai said with a sigh. "And what was that? Why is it so high pitched? Any higher and it'll hurt a dog's ears."
"I don't know, but it's cool, right?"
"It hurts. You shouldn't do it anymore, as it'll hurt yourself and who ever hears." Ai said sternly and Ikki nodded. "Okay... Just wanted to show you."
"Well, please don't do it again. It really hurts." Ai said with a sigh, shaking his head as if to rid the sound once more before standing.
"Where are you going?" Ikki asked curiously.
"To get a Frisbee." Ai said, making Ikki look at him with happiness. "Come on."
It wasn't hard finding a Frisbee. The house was full of them since there were so many dogs in the lab. Though Ai found a brand new one for Ikki, one that didn't have teeth marks or dog drool all over it.
They headed out back, a little ways away. Ai couldn't believe he was doing this, but he figured it wouldn't hurt. Plus no one could see them, and Ikki seemed happy. They began throwing it back and forth, idly talking.
"Do you know what this academy looks like?" Ikki asked curiously, throwing the Frisbee to Ai.
"Of course. I've been there before, but I wonder if they changed it. Perhaps not." Ai said, before throwing it high, seeing how high Ikki could catch.
Ikki looked up, studying it for a moment before jumping up. Ai watched as he jumped high, and instead of catching it with his hands, he was surprised to see Ikki catch it with his jaws. He fell back, and Ai was afraid he would crack his head on the ground. Though he easily landed on his feet, looking at Ai with pride.
"You're getting drool all over the Frisbee." Was Ai's only comment.
"Am not! And no praise!? That was amazing!" Ikki said, pouting.
"Well I guess it was. You jump pretty high." Ai said, and caught the Frisbee when Ikki threw it back, after wiping it off on his shirt.
"Yes, that was impressive."
Ai and Ikki looked over to see the professor, Ai's dad, smiling as he stared at Ikki. Ikki smiled back, proud of himself. Though Ai narrowed his eyes, knowing that look in his dad's eyes.
"Are you able to do it again?" He asked and Ikki nodded.
"I think we're done for the day." Ai said, lowering the Frisbee, making Ikki pout.
"Why? Not even one more time?"
"At least once more, Ai." The professor said, and the teal haired male hesitated before sighing.
"Fine." He said, before an idea formed. With that thought in mind, he threw the Frisbee towards the house 'by accident', and it landed on the roof. "...Sorry..."
"I'll get it." Ikki said, running towards the house. Before the two males could protest, Ikki jumped up, grabbing the edge of the roof with shingles.
"Don't strain your arm!" The professor said in warning as Ikki pulled himself up, sitting on the roof. He grabbed the Frisbee, tossing it back down to Ai. "That was fun."
"Now come down." Ai said, worried that his father was getting interested in his experiment again. He wanted his father to understand that Ikki was no longer his experiment, but a living being that had feelings and a mind of his own.
Ikki jumped down carefully, walking towards Ai. Before he could say anything, Ai grasped his wrist gently, starting to pull him inside. "Come on, I'll feed you your favorite snack."
"Really?!" Ikki asked in surprise, as Ai never even wanted to go near the food.
As they walked inside, Ai noticed the professor was watching them. Or more like Ikki. He just hoped he didn't get any ideas.
