Author's Note: Another bit of filler, I apologise. However, I really wanted to take a chapter to showcase the Chosen Children as a whole; their friendship within their group is what makes them strong, and as someone who loves Digimon so dearly, that particular aspect was incredibly important for me to write. So, once again, I apologise, but please bear with me as I feel sappy about them all.
Disclaimer: Nope, still not mine. Yukira, Akiryomon and Nanako are though. Y'all can't have them; I'm kind of attached.
It was late morning before Jun emerged into the waiting room with her parents. Everyone had been awake for a couple hours already; Yamato and Taichi had both made coffee runs for those who wanted some, and they all sat chattering away.
Yukira was the first to notice them, and immediately swept through the crowd to greet them. They all hugged her, and Jun said, "They've got him sedated while the drug works itself out of his system. He's gonna be asleep for a while."
"I'll tell the others," Yukira said. "Are you staying here?"
"Yes," Mrs. Motomiya said. "But we told the doctors they can inform any of you here if anything changes."
"Thank you for coming," Mr. Motomiya added. "All of you."
"Of course," Yukira said. "You know we'd drop anything to be here for him. Mimi booked a ticket as soon as she found out and she's flying back today. I cancelled my dance classes and I'll be here all day, and everyone else called off of work if they had it. We'll all be staying."
"Thank you." Mrs. Motomiya hugged Yukira again, and the three of them left the waiting room. Yukira immediately relayed the information to the rest of them, and they waited.
By mid-afternoon, they had practically moved in. Jyou had made sure that there were snacks enough for everyone, and because he knew a few of the doctors and nurses on the staff, had managed to procure them some blankets and pillows. Sora and Yukira, despite their differences, had come together to move some chairs so that they all had their own area and weren't taking up the entire room.
Taichi and Yamato, being the two with cars, took it upon themselves to make runs for coffee and snacks, as well as driving people home and back so they could shower or change their clothes. Koushiro had rigged his computer to a makeshift projector and was playing movies on the wall to keep them all entertained. Miyako had gone to her parents' store and made each of them a lunch, including Nanako (who had been treated as if she were their friend for her whole life).
Jun had made a run home and got a handful of board games (roughly three friendships were in the process of being destroyed over a game of Monopoly). Her parents sat with them all, talking animatedly and trying to keep up their spirits despite their worry. Mr. Motomiya told them that if they all worried and were sad, then Daisuke wouldn't get any better. They had to be positive and happy to help heal him.
By dinnertime, Mimi had arrived. She apologised for coming without souvenirs for the first time ever, since she had rushed to pack. However, she had yet to buy her return ticket and so was staying for as long as necessary.
By late evening, everything started to quiet down. Sora and Hikari had made up a few makeshift beds so that they could sleep more comfortably. Many of the nurses on the staff had come to befriend them, and would occasionally check in on them to make sure they had everything they needed.
As Yukira's shift came on, she looked over the half of the waiting room they had occupied and smiled. This was what their friendship had always been, what it had always meant. Whatever happened, the Chosen Children were there for each other. They were all exhausted, worried, and a bit claustrophobic at this point, but despite all of that, they stayed. Even Yukira and Sora, who often did not get along, had been chatting like the best of friends all day just to keep their spirits up.
This is what Daisuke would want, she thought. All of us, together, supporting one of our own.
"Are you the awake shift?" came a small voice from the door. Yukira turned to see one of the nurses leaning in the doorway. She quickly got up and, dodging those who were sleeping on the floor, met her at the door.
"What's up?" Yukira asked hopefully.
"He's not awake yet," the nurse said. "But the doctors have given the okay to have visitors come in one at a time outside of family. The Motomiyas also said it was alright and to tell you."
"That's awesome," Yukira said. "I'll tell the others."
Hikari was the next to take a shift, and Yukira decided to tell her then. That way, they could pass along the message until each of them knew.
She padded softly across the floor, dancing around the sleeping Digimon and Chosen Children, to where Ken sat in a chair dozing. She laid a gentle hand on his arm and prodded him awake.
"What is it?" he said groggily, stretching.
"They're letting us go in one at a time," Yukira said. "I wanted you to be the first to know. I'll tell Hikari when she wakes up and have her pass it along."
"Thank you so much, Yuki-chan." He stood and hugged her tightly, then practically ran to Daisuke's room. Yukira smiled after him, sitting back down to wait out her shift.
Yeah, she thought. This is definitely what it is to be friends with Motomiya Daisuke.
