The busy streets of Hyrule Castle Town felt essentially hot that day. Many people who usually traveled around the streets were keeping to the shade for as long as they could, leaving the street open for a sprinting child who ran through the alleys as fast as he could. The heaving sounds and heavy footsteps had alerted some people who turned around to see what had been so insisting on making so much noise under the scorching sun. The boy ran quickly, turning from corner to corner and becoming barely recognizable save for his white shirt and brown pants.

"Wait up!" said an exasperated voice behind him. The boy turned for a second to look at his chaser and smiled, despite the many strands of blonde hair sticking to his face and forehead. The smaller girl behind him trailed his very move, making her bright green dress flutter as she tried to catch up.

"We have to hurry!" he insisted, pushing his legs further to try and get to his destination faster "We don't have much before my dad knows we left" he laughed in-between his panting.

The girl had to smile despite the fact that he was forcing her to run her energy dry under the insufferable heat "Can you at least wait for me?" she laughed back, which made him turn again and flash her a bright smile, slowing down enough so he could be beside her.

"We're almost there, and then the stupid heat won't matter anymore" he said eagerly, starting to run faster than his friend in anticipation.

"Link!" the boy reduced his speed again at his friend's request. He noticed that he had made her sweat almost as much as he did. Longer, bright green strands of hair stuck to the girl's face and neck and he noticed that below her emerald eyes were light pink cheeks that had formed from her exhaustion.

"Sorry Saria" he apologized. His smiled widened when he saw the bright glow of the waters only a few steps away and grabbed the girl's hand, forcing her to run faster until they reached the dock's wooden steps, diving almost immediately into the water.

They emerged from the water with a satisfied sigh at the feeling of cold against their skin "Was it really necessary that we ran so fast to get here?" said Saria, trying to fix her hair away from her face but keeping a happy expression the entire time.

"I don't think you and I are under the same sky then" Link said, diving under the water again and emerging to fix his hair back. They swam back to the shore beside the docks and sat close to the water, letting their feet submerge in the moving liquid.

"They came asking for my mom today" said Saria as she looked down into the water, slightly kicking her legs to make ripples.

"Why?" asked Link, mimicking her moves with his own legs.

"Dunno, but they've been looking for a lot of people around my street lately" Link noticed that her tone had gone from their random chat to a concerned voice. Her smile had faded although she didn't look that worried.

"It's probably because they're looking for someone dangerous" said Link dismissively, changing his line of sight to the enormous ships that were being loaded early that afternoon.

"I dunno… Why would they look in our streets?" she turned to him. His concern for her then spiked up after seeing her grow more worried. She grasped the hem of her dress to try and release her own thoughts into it "I mean…. You even noticed that it was really strange that they were only looking for women"

Link had to admire that, despite both being twelve, Saria was very intuitive with her surroundings and she took seriously what he noticed as well "Did they take anyone away?"

"No… But I heard screams last night… They were coming from a house on the street" she leaned forward to touch the water with her hand, letting it submerge her hand as it had done with their feet "Mom said it was nothing but she looked worried"

Link decided not to comment. He had heard around the poor districts in Castle Town that many guards had come knocking on the houses around the districts. No one had been clear as for who or what they were looking and no one seemed to know why they were looking in there in the first place. Many speculated that some murderer had been hiding in one of the houses, but soon enough, as the guards approached Link's and Saria's district, the comments ranged from door knockings to people disappearing at night. Many people had asked the neighbors of those who disappeared what had happened but no one dared to say, lest they be taken away as well.

They both turned at the sound of ships beginning to back away from the docks. Saria noticed that Link stared intently at the men walking around the deck of the ship and smiled "Ever thought of telling your dad that you want to be a captain?"

"My dad's merely a fisherman, I don't think he'd be the person to go to" Link said, staring at the fisherman boats barely on the outskirts of town. Saria placed a hand on top of his, giving him a comprehensive smile.

"He could have friends, maybe he'll be able to help you get started?" Link turned and smiled at her.

"Yeah, maybe" he stood up, holding her hand to stand up as well. Saria tried to dry her dress and stretch it as much as she could but both the heat and the water had now made that impossible. Link had also tried to straighten his own clothes only to find it futile.

"Come on, your dad should be getting ready to kill us any time soon" she laughed, walking back into the streets and into the pressing heat of the sun.
