Amelia Gilbert
So Caroline and Bonnie came around to hang out. They still hadn't made up yet. It was awkward. I looked between the two, waiting for one of them to break the silence. One of them had to make the first move, and Elena and I weren't talking until one of them did. I crossed my arms and looked between the two, trying to increase the pressure.
"I'm sorry!" Caroline finally blurted out and I let out a sigh of relief. I hated silences. "There, I said it. If you want the ugly-ass necklace, keep it. It's yours."
Bonnie face stretched into an awkward one. "Will you hate me if I tell you I threw it away?"
"You threw it away?!" Caroline exclaimed.
I leaned towards Bonnie. "Don't think you needed to mention that part."
"I know it sounds crazy, but the necklace was giving me nightmares. I had to get rid of it." Bonnie protested.
"You could have just given it back to me!"
"Why?" Elena asked Caroline. "So you could give it back to Damon?"
"Screw Damon." Caroline said, much to our surprise. I then noticed she was wearing my locket. She wasn't under Damon's spell anymore. "He was more interested in Mia anyway."
"Why?" Elena pushed, glancing over at me.
I waved a hand over my face. "Duh."
"I don't know, he just always interrogated me about you." Caroline folded her arms. "It was really weird."
"What did he want to know?" Elena asked.
"And what did you tell him?" I added.
"Do we really have to talk about Damon?" Caroline stressed.
"Yes." Elena and I answered at the same time.
Caroline huffed and shrugged her shoulders. "He asked about you and Tyler, and who else you dated. He wanted to know if you and Matt had a thing, he wanted to know about your pare-" Caroline quickly stopped. Why was Damon so concerned with those things? Why did he want to know about my parents? "Are we doing manicures or what?" Caroline quickly changed the subject. "Who has their kit?"
"Mine's in my bag." Bonnie said.
Things got heated up again when Caroline found the necklace in Bonnie's bag after Bonnie claimed to have thrown it in the field. This only intensified when Bonnie revealed it was because of a ghost called Emily.
"Ladies, ladies-" I got in the middle.
"I'm telling you, the necklace is cursed!" Bonnie stressed to Caroline.
"Oh please! That sounds like a lie Mia would come up with!" Caroline shot back at Bonnie.
"Hey!" I exclaimed.
Once again, the two were off again. Bonnie stormed upstairs while Caroline sighed heavily and went into the living room. "This is going well." I said to Elena. "Ah well, I guess this can't get any worse, right?"
"What's going on with you and Damon?" She demanded.
"Apparently it can."
"Mia." Elena snapped.
"Nothing!" I replied. She looked like she was ready to yell at me again. "I don't know why he's asking about me. There's nothing going on." She continued to stare at me. "Elena, stop."
"Where were you last night?"
"I uh... I was in my room." I lied.
"No you weren't." Elena shot back. "You were with Damon, weren't you?"
"Elena-"
"What is wrong with you?" Elena snapped, "After what he did-"
"If you're not going to listen to me, there is no point to this conversation!" I said loudly over her. "Great, now we're arguing too!" I turned away from her. "I'm not with Damon, that's all you need to know. I don't want to talk about Damon anymore!" I walked out of the kitchen and into the living room.
"Are you hooking up with Damon?" Caroline crossed her arms.
I pinched the bridge of my nose. "This is not good for my rage."
"I'm serious, if you are, I would rather you just tell me." Caroline pushed.
"I'm not hooking up with Damon." I said, looking straight at her.
"Fine." She sighed. "I believe you."
"So you should!"
"And what about me?" Bonnie appeared in the doorway. "Do you believe me?"
Caroline stared at her and frowned. "Bonnie, look, it's just not me. I don't believe in the..." She made some weird gesture with her hands. "But if you do, then, ok, I'm in. That's all it takes for me to jump onboard because I consider you to be my best friend." I cleared my throat. "You too, Mia." I nodded approvingly. "When you're not hooking up with my ex boyfriend." I went to argue, but she winked. I just glared.
"Let's not make that a thing, I don't want to hear that disgusting accusation ever again." I said, glancing at all the people in the room. "Are we clear?"
"Oh my god!" Caroline suddenly snapped her fingers. "Why don't we have a séance?"
"I don't think that's a good idea." Bonnie said, looking worried.
"C'mon! Let's summon some spirits. This Emily chick has some serious explaining to do." Caroline encouraged.
"Have you not seen like every horror movie ever?" I asked Caroline. "That never works out well for the main characters! Plus, the blonde always dies first."
"You love horror films!" Caroline protested. "We're doing this." I groaned, especially when Caroline managed to convince both Bonnie and Elena to join in. I went upstairs and brought down an essential. "Why did you bring your bat down?" Caroline asked.
"For protection." I replied with a shrug, placing it next to me. I sat in between Caroline and Bonnie who I had to link hands with. While I had been upstairs grabbing my bat, Caroline had lit some curtains and dimmed the lights. "This is incredibly stupid, we're allowing demons from the other realm into our souls, into this room… into this house! I have to sleep here tonight!"
"Call to her Bonnie." Caroline said with her eyes closed. I shook my head. The things I put up with.
"Emily." Bonnie called out. Silence. "You there?" I sniggered at Bonnie.
"Really?" Caroline opened her eyes. "Emily, you there?" She mocked Bonnie. "Is that all you've got?"
"Fine, jeez." Bonnie replied. She closed her eyes again. She took a deep breath and started again. "Emily, I call on you. I know you have a message, and I'm here to listen." Nothing happened.
"Well, no one's home, guess there's no ghost-" I went to withdraw my hands from Bonnie and Caroline when the flames from the candles suddenly burst upwards. "Uh, so I'm done!" Caroline grabbed my hand. "I don't want to do this! I'm scared! I'm the fastest runner!"
"Ok, this is starting to freak me out." Elena said. It got really cold.
"It's just the air conditioning." Bonnie quickly said, but we all looked around uneasily.
"Ask her to show you a sign." Caroline told Bonnie.
"If a sacrifice has to be made, I'm giving them you." I said to Caroline.
"Emily! If you're among us, show us another sign." I relaxed a little when nothing happened; I shook my head feeling stupid for a minute. However, I fell to the ground as the windows burst open and a flock of wind hit us. Shamefully I was the one who let out the loudest scream.
"Oh hell no!" I let out. "I'm done! I'm done!"
"I'm done too!" Bonnie shouted and threw the necklace to the ground. It was all going so quickly, the wind hadn't stopped, my heart was beating too fast for me to handle. I held tightly onto the wall and didn't let go. The candles went out and all I could hear was Bonnie screaming. The lights went out and we all screamed again.
"Ah!" I screamed when someone touched me. I pushed the demon away.
"Ow! Mia! That was me!" Elena growled.
"Get the lights!" Bonnie yelled out.
Finally, Caroline got to the lights. Bonnie was pressed against the wall and Elena… well Elena was on the floor from me pushing her. Elena glared up at me. "You're lucky I didn't use my bat!"
"The necklace… it's gone." Bonnie said, her eyes desperately searching for it.
Like a reflex, we all looked at Caroline. "What?"
"Fun's over, Caroline, hand it over." Elena told her.
"What? I don't have it!"
They then all turned to me. "What?" I asked them. "You think I took it? What is with all the flying accusations at me this evening, huh?"
Elena looked unsure. "Maybe Jeremy is home." She suggested, and walked out the room. Caroline and I followed her about to look for him and as Bonnie tried to, the door shut behind us.
"You guys open the door!" Bonnie called out from behind it. "Open the door! It won't open!"
We tried from our end, but it didn't budge. There wasn't even a lock on it. "Bonnie! Unlock the door!"
"Help me!" Bonnie continued to cry, beginning to beat on the door. "Help me! It won't open!"
"Bonnie! Get the bat! Break down the door!" I yelled through the door.
The door flew open, slamming against the wall. Bonnie looked normal.
"What happened? Are you ok?" Elena began asking.
Bonnie lifted her head up, looking… weird.
"I'm fine." She stated.
Elena and I looked at each other. Uh...
"Unbelievable, you were totally faking it." Caroline scowled. "You scared the hell out of me." She snapped and walked towards our front door.
"Bonnie?" I asked, waving my hand over her face.
"I'm fine, everything's fine." She repeated creepily.
I leaned towards Elena. "I've seen this in the movies... I think she's possessed!" Bonnie walked towards us... I looked in the mirror… "ELENA!" I grabbed hold of her.
"Mia, what the hell are you doing? Get off me!"
"It's not Bonnie! It's a ghost! There was some bitch in weird clothing in the mirror! We've invited it in! We're all going to die!"
"Get a hold of yourself!" Elena snapped at me, following in the direction of Bonnie.
"I must go." Possessed Bonnie said, heading towards our front door.
"She's leaving, I'm leaving." Caroline said sternly, not understanding what was going on.
"You guys can't leave!" Elena protested.
"The ghost bitch can!" I whispered to Elena. "That's it, I'm getting the bat!"
"I've had enough freaky fake witchy stuff for one night, thank you very much." Caroline scowled at us.
Possessed Bonnie turned to us calmly. "Thank you for having me."
"At least she's polite; we may have a chance of living here."
Elena had that look on her face like she was finally realising something was wrong. "Where are you going?" Elena communicated with it.
"Back to where it all began. I won't let him have it. It must be destroyed."
"This bitch is crazy!" I announced, backing away.
Bonnie opened the door to leave. "Emily!" Elena yelled out and Bonnie's head turned.
"Oh shit!" I said in amazement. Bonnie suddenly charged out the door, making it slam shut behind her. We all ran from it and tried to open it, but it wouldn't budge. We all fell back as the door opened; Jeremy appeared and stared at us as if we were freaks. "Dammit Jer!"
"What did I do?"
"You're in the way!" I pushed him.
"Wow, that was hurtful." Jeremy replied and headed upstairs.
"C'mon!" We ran outside and there was no sign of Bonnie/Emily.
"I'm out of here!" Caroline stormed off.
"I'm calling Stefan." Elena said frantically, pulling her phone out. She raced to give Stefan all the information he needed and ended up realising something herself. "Back to where it all began." Elena whispered. "I know where she's taken Emily!" Elena said, grabbing my hand and pulling me towards the car.
Elena and I split up when we entered the woods, but a loud groaning sound led me to Damon. He was being held up by a branch that had been staked right through his gut.
"Ughh, gross." I said, looking up at him.
"Amelia!" I turned my head to see Stefan running towards me. "What are you doing here? Where is Elena?"
"I don't know, we separated and…" I pointed up to where Damon was groaning in pain. Stefan lifted Damon off and he fell to the ground, bleeding internally.
"That hurts." Damon said through clenched teeth.
I knew it wasn't helping anything, but I couldn't resist. "Baby." I muttered.
He looked up at me and glared, "Do you want to go up there?"
"No, no I would not." I knelt down beside him. "Damon, what is going on?"
"Shouldn't be here, Mia." Damon growled, trying to pull himself up. He lifted his head up and his eyes widened at something past me. I turned around and saw Bonnie... Emily... had created a circle around her. I gulped and took a step back. "Stefan…" I tugged on his jacket and he looked towards Emily.
"Hello Emily." He said calmly, stepping towards her.
Damon grabbed my wrist and tried to stand up. "These people don't deserve this, they should never have to know such evil." Emily spoke.
"What evil?" I asked. What was Damon planning? What was with the crystal? What the hell was I even seeing?
"Emily, I swear to god I'll make you regret this." Damon doubled over as he clutched at his wounds.
"I won't let you release them into this world." Emily told him sternly.
"Them?" Stefan repeated.
"What the hell is going on?" I knew I was missing out something crucial to this puzzle.
Damon began to get to his feet, "What part of the story did you leave out?" Stefan demanded from Damon.
"What does it matter?" Damon hissed back.
"Emily, tell me what you did!" Stefan whipped back round to Emily.
"To save her… I had to save them." Emily told him. I looked to the ground… her? Who was she talking about?
"You saved everyone in the church?"
"With one comes all."
"I don't care about them, I just want Katherine." Damon said desperately. The second those words came out of his mouth, my heart sunk. Katherine was still alive. What the hell was that? Why did I even care? I quickly turned away. No, no, this was not good; I couldn't care about him, that was so wrong. Oh crap, no, no, no!
"This isn't about love is it? It's about revenge." Stefan grabbed him.
"Move!" Damon yelled and tried to get past him, but Stefan shoved him back.
"You can't just bring them back!" Stefan shouted at him.
"This town deserves this." Damon sneered.
"How can you say that?" I glared at him.
"Amelia-" Stefan tried to stop me.
"No." I pushed his hand away. "You want to kill innocent people for your own selfish gain? I don't know exactly what happened to make you like this. But whatever it was happened over a hundred years ago. These are innocent people." I shoved him, and he stared down at me angrily. "You are blaming innocent people!"
I tried to shove him again, but he grabbed both my wrists. "There is nothing innocent about you people!" He yelled, and used his grasp on my wrists to shove me down to the ground. He then looked at Stefan. "And don't think for a second it won't happen again. They already know too much, and they'll burn your little witch friend right next to us when they find out."
"You are such an asshole!" I yelled up at Damon.
He turned down to me, his mouth curled into a snarl. "I don't care about anyone in this town, and you're no exception."
"That won't happen." His attention left me and was now onto Emily. "Things are different now."
"Don't do this." Damon pleaded, moving forward carefully.
Stefan pulled me up. Damon's words shouldn't have affected me as much as they did.
"I can't free them." Emily told him sternly. "I won't."
Damon was about to charge to her when fire sprung up, surrounding her. Stefan pushed me back and pulled Damon back too. What was once Bonnie's body changed into Emily's. Damon was both threatening and pleading with her not to do this.
"BONNIE!" I heard Elena's voice, it was back to Bonnie's body now. I could barely see through the flames anymore.
"NO!" I heard Damon yell out as Emily threw the necklace in the air and it exploded. The pieces disappearing mid air.
The anger on Damon's face was what was scaring me the most right now and I knew Bonnie's body wasn't safe. The fire vanished.
"Damon…" I reached out to him warningly, but the second I felt his touch, it left me and he was charging towards Bonnie. "Bonnie!" Damon grabbed Bonnie and bit into her, "HEY! NO! NO! STOP IT!" I pulled hard at Damon, but he shoved me down, I winced as I fell onto my wrist. I looked up to see Stefan threw Damon off Bonnie and she fell to the ground.
I used my other hand to bring my wrist up. I brought it to my chest and tried to stand up. I looked up at Damon. Veins were coming from his eyes and his fangs were out. I tried to get as far away as possible from him and he noticed. Stefan checked to see if Bonnie was breathing. "She's alive, but barely." Stefan told us. "I can save her." Elena helped me up and I watched as Stefan fed Bonnie his blood to save her life.
Elena crouched down beside her and helped her up. Stefan walked over to me. "Amelia… your wrist."
"It's fine." I whispered. What the fuck happened tonight?
"No, it's not." I felt Damon's eyes on me, but I refused to look at him. Stefan held out his wrist to me. "No, its fine, I'll get it checked out. Thank you."
I looked up when I felt another hand taking my wrist, it was Damon. I tried to pull it back from him, but he held on tightly to it. I couldn't even bring myself to yell at him. The look on his face was unrecognisable on Damon. His eyes were red, but there were no tears. His eyes flashed up, landing on my face. It was like someone had broken his heart all over again. All I could see was a tortured man. He moved forward, using both his hands to cup my face hard. He walked forward as I tried to walk backwards from him, my face still in his hands, he wouldn't let go. His thumb stroked over my cheek and I heard him whisper her name. Katherine.
"Damon-" Stefan pulled him off me. Damon's eyes still remained on my face as he was pulled away from me. It was like he was afraid he would never see it again, but I knew that wasn't true. He already told me he didn't care about me, about anyone, but Katherine. Damon shoved Stefan away from him. He took a last look at me and stumbled into the woods.
"I know I shouldn't be asking this." I said quietly. "But is he going to be ok?"
"I don't know." Stefan replied. "Are you ok? Did he hurt you?"
"Just the wrist." I whispered. "What's wrong with him? Why did he… grab me like that?" Stefan looked reluctant to tell me. "Is there something I'm missing here?"
"You remind him of her."
"Really?"
"You share a few physical qualities." Stefan said, looking away from me and to Bonnie and Elena. But didn't Elena too? I didn't know where this was a good thing or a bad thing being like this Katherine girl. It had kept me alive so far, I guess. Stefan moved over to Elena. I couldn't take my eyes off Damon who just looked so lost. Why did I even care? I couldn't answer that question no matter how many times I asked it.
I sat in the backseat with Bonnie who couldn't stop shaking. I don't know what was happening outside of the car, but Elena was crying. This had not been a good night. Elena didn't say a word when she got in the car and I knew better than to ask. I was taken to the hospital and seen to. It took a few hours, but I left in a cast. Bonnie was gone when I got out, and it was just Elena left.
I soon learnt on the way home that Elena and Stefan had broken up.
"It's about time, I've been waiting for-" Jenna came rushing out of the living room when we returned home, but she stopped when her eyes fell onto my cast. Elena immediately took off up the stairs, not in the mood to talk to anyone after what happened with Stefan. Dumped twice in one day, ouch. "What the hell happened to you?"
"Elena pushed me down the stairs." I replied.
"The real story."
I hadn't quite thought of that yet.
"It was-"
"And don't blame Logan." She crossed her arms.
"I just fell on it." I had to be boring.
"Why did nobody call me?" Jenna demanded.
"We didn't want to ruin your date." I smirked at her. "Besides, I'm fine, it's all good." Meh.
"Good." Her mouth kept twitching up into a smile.
"You can start gushing now." I told her.
She dragged me by my unharmed arm into the living room and onto the couch. "Oh my god, Mia, we talked for ages. He's so nice and funny and so hot too. He's perfect." I was so happy hearing her gush over someone who wasn't Logan Fell. "Although, there may be some red flags." My face dropped. "I don't know, his wife went missing years ago, she was never found... it's unlikely I'm crushing over a wife killer, right?"
"Wives run away all the time!" I dismissed. May have to seek out Stefan's compelling services just to be certain.
"It wasn't awkward at all. The conversation just flowed." She sighed, but it was a happy sigh. "Is Elena ok?"
"Her and Stefan broke up." I told her.
"Oh." Jenna said, looking towards the stairs. "I should probably go and talk to her."
"Just get rid of that smile first." I said, raising my brows with my own smile.
"I don't know how that's going to be possible." Jenna said, getting up. "Alaric." She squealed before waving a hand over her face. "Ok, I'm done."
I really hoped this was the start of something new for Jenna. She needed it after being with a jerk off like Logan. I just pray she doesn't go running back to him; I was going to make sure that didn't happen. I made myself a drink and sat at the kitchen counter. Tonight's events played through my mind. The look on Damon's face as the necklace was destroyed. I never could picture devastation on his face. I didn't even know he could feel like that. I wonder what she was like, this Katherine. I wondered what she looked like, what she was like, how she was with Damon. He seemed so desperate to be reunited with her, they must have had something special, but how did Stefan fit in with that? Damon doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who could be fooled so easily by a woman, but had he?
I was disrupted from my thoughts by a knock at the door.
I looked at my watch. Who the hell knocks at this time of night? I put down my drink and headed to the door. This had better be good.
As I opened it, I immediately tried to shut it. "We're perfectly happy with our religion, thank you very much."
A hand pushed the door back open. "Hello, Mia." He smirked.
"Logan." I said, with disgust, crossing my arms over my chest. "What do you want?"
"Aren't you going to invite me in?"
"No."
He sighed. "Is your aunt here?"
"No."
"Her car is here." He pointed out.
"I don't know what to tell you, Logan, she's not here. Maybe she's out with her new boyfriend. Her new rich boyfriend who's going to buy me and Jeremy a trampoline."
"Just get your aunt, will you?" He said, glancing up the stairs.
"No." I repeated.
"She told you about the Tinder account, huh?" Logan asked.
"Oh don't worry, I thought you were a disgusting pig before that anyways." I replied, shrugging my shoulders.
"Let me come in."
"Dude, its over, don't embarrass yourself."
"Is this because I refused to add to yours and Jeremy's trampoline fund?" He joked. This was something that happened when Jeremy and I were a lot younger. It was when Jenna was dating Logan in high school. Everyone humoured us and donated maybe a dollar to the trampoline fund, but Logan, he didn't give us a cent. That's when I knew I didn't like him.
"That's only fifteen percent of the reason." I told him. "It's late, you're not seeing Jenna, I think we're done here."
"You can't keep her from me forever." He stated, matter of fact.
"Uh I think I can." I stated back in the same manner. "You blew it, mate, you really did. Jenna really values my opinion and I am going to continue to tell her what a scum bag you are. Good day to you, sir." I shut the door in his face and it felt good.
"You're still up?" Jenna appeared on the stairs. Phew, she just missed Logan.
"Just taking out the trash." I smirked.
She looked confused. "I did that already..."
"It was a figure of speech, I meant-" I shook my head. "Never mind, let's go to bed."
