"How the hell am I supposed to do this?" Devan asked herself out loud, looking at everything that lay in front of her, she knew it wasn't much, but she wanted the date to be perfect. Sure they were always in the public eye, and she attracted the paparazzi like a magnet, they always wanted her to do something bad, and it'd been over a month since they had confessed their love for each other on live TV. But there, in front of her was all the works for a low key picnic date, but she didn't know how to put everything together, she was younger than her girlfriend, so as much as she would love to take the wine with her, that wasn't much of an option, especially if the paparazzi did manage to find them and show up. The food, cute little finger food they could feed each other were going to go into the basket, yes, but she also knew that it wasn't going to be enough to stop their hunger and needed more, but everything that she was looking at, there was no real romantic way to eat them. Everything was slowly starting to frustrate her, because she really just didn't know how to pack everything.
Letting out a loud groan, she just decided to go with it as she threw some caution to the wind and started to pack things into the brown wicker basket in front of her. She squeaked suddenly, nearly done packing when hands were on her sides, moving in a tickling motion, she juggled the wine bottle that had been in her hands, nearly sending in a cascading crash to the floor as she caught it and spun around, wielding it like a weapon as she glared darkly at the younger girl standing in front of her. "I can't believe you just did that! You have any idea what could have happened!?" she asked, but the teen in front of her just laughed, so hard she was just about doubled over. "What? Do you want something?" she asked, shaking her head as she turned around to finish. She had the wine in her hand, and looked over to the sparkling cider, not sure what to pick. She didn't want to feel like a restriction.
"I had a question… Or um, I guess a few questions." Adeline said, walking around to stand on the other side of the kitchen island. Devan just looked up at her, finding room in the basket for both the wine and the cider, not saying anything as she waited for her to ask her questions. "How do you date someone who isn't in the industry? Like, who isn't famous at all. And just well, what it's like dating someone… Uh… Of the uh, same… You know… But like, I still like the opposite too!" she said, before she bit her bottom lip looking down at her brightly coloured socks, unable to say anything else.
Devan let out a heavy sigh and she just looked at the younger girl in front of her. "Look, dating someone isn't easy, ever. If they aren't famous at all, it gets harder, especially if they know that you are, because you never know if they're just after you for the money, or if they actually might like you for who you are. As for dating someone of the same gender as you, that has to be something that you try and figure out on your own. You go on a few dates, try some kissing, and you see where it goes. Some find out by trying, some find out that they can't with just anyone. It requires love to make someone change sides." She told her, closing the basket and setting the nicely folded blanket over that. "You got someone in mind?" she asked, popping a small cube of cheese in her mouth. She didn't add it to the basket, having changed her mind because it was getting so full.
"There's this punk chick at school who's been hitting on me, and then there is this guy on one of the sports teams, he wears the jacket all the time, who's been flirting with me and he's asked me out, but then well, she's asked me out too and I just don't know what to do! Devi… Help me, please?" Adeline looked so desperate, and pouty that a deep groan came out of the 18 year-old. "Alright, alright fine. Look, here's what you need to do. Who asked first?" she asked. "He did." Devan nodded "Alright, give him Friday, tell him to surprise you with the date but he's to pick you up here at seven. And you know Brandie will give you a curfew, if the Witch doesn't first. I'm guessing nine thirty at the latest." She told her, moving around the island counter to lean beside her as she popped another cheese cube into her mouth. "Now, you give her Saturday, but you give her the whole day. Or as close to the whole day as you can. And the reason you do so, is because this liking girl's thing, is new to you. Experiment a little, hold her hand, just, let her get a little close. You need to figure this out, and it's the easiest way to do it. Alright, Addy?" she asked, earning that little smile from the younger girl who was quick to hug her. "I knew I could count on you for help." She said, squeezing her tight enough for a grunt before she was letting go and taking off. "Thank you!" she shouted over her shoulder, making Devan smile and laugh before turning to grab the picnic basket and snagging a pair of keys off one of the hooks by the phone before she was taking off out to the garage. She didn't exactly have her license, but she didn't want any third wheels on this date.
"Where are you taking me?" Dorinda asked, looking over to Devan as they were driving. She didn't know that her girlfriend had a license and was curious as to where they were going, driving out past the city limits; she didn't like that the younger woman wouldn't tell her anything. She wasn't telling her about the plans for their date and she just kept smiling that smile at her that she had something planned for them. "Uh-uh, I'm not telling you. I told you that when you told me to plan something that I wasn't going to tell you anything, and I won't. I want to see the look on your face when we get there and you see everything that I have planned for us." She was told with that same smile and she let out this heavy sigh before she was reaching for the radio to turn up the station and pouting as best and as cute as she could as she turned to look out the window. She was trying to be mad, but it wasn't working out that way when she felt her girlfriend at the wheel take her hand and hold onto it tightly as she kissed her knuckles gently, giving her hand a squeeze.
"Trust me, I know that you are going to love this." Devan told her, giving her knuckles another kiss as she continued to hold her hand and drive. "I love you, I know you." She was told, and a sweet sigh came out of her as she turned to look at her girlfriend. "I love you too." She told her, leaning over to kiss her cheek. "Now hurry and take me to this place, I'm getting anxious." Do said, with a flirtatious smile.
Oh, it'd been worth it, keeping it a secret and letting her girlfriend go a little crazy over things and not knowing where they were going. The look on her face had said it all, she loved the view; she loved it even more when she saw her come around the back with that picnic basket and blanket. Just seeing that, had made keeping it a surprise all worth it. "I told you that I knew you. I may not look like it at all, babe, but I know what you like." She told her, leaning in to kiss her deeply as she held her close with one arm before she was leaning away, breaking the kiss to be able to set up their picnic, high on that hill, beneath a few oak trees that provided just enough shade for them as the sun creeped in, just upon the edge of wanting to set. It wasn't even ready to set, but there it was, painting the sky just a bright brilliant shade of orange mixed in with faint hues of purple.
"How did you find this place? It's so beautiful." Dorinda said, accepting Devan's help down onto the wonderfully sprawled blanket. "Thank you." She added, curling her legs to the side as she leaned to the side. "You're welcome, and I just… I would run away from the city sometimes, away from everyone else. This is just, well, where I would end up. I love it here, the sunsets are just, so beautiful. They almost compare to you." She said, smiling at the blush the compliment elicited. She leaned in slowly, pulling her in for a deep and passionate kiss. "I love you." They panted together when they separated, earning sweet smiles from each other. Nuzzling noses in a butterfly kiss, they slowly leaned away from each other to start in on the picnic packed with such loving care.
"So, I brought wine and cider." Devan said, holding two wine classes in her hand. "I didn't know which one you would want, and I didn't really want to hold you back. I mean, I've drank before, a lot actually, and I've been trying to be a good girl, like I promised you I would be, as hard as that has really been-" her rambling words were cut short as the blonde covered her lips in a quick and loving kiss. "You could never hold me back. And if you weren't driving, I'd let you have some of that wine. Now, how about pouring that cider instead?" she asked, taking the wine to set it off to the side. "Another time, we can share that." Dorinda told her when she saw that it looked like she might protest.
"If you're sure." Devi said, giving her another loving kiss and setting to pouring their drinks and setting them carefully off to the side in the little holder at the edge of the basket. She hadn't expected it to hold the glasses so well, and sort of just stared for a while. Do took the side of her face and edge of her chin into her hand to gently turn her girlfriends attention over to her, and when the eyes shifted to follow her head. They shared a smile before Do was leaning in for a deep kiss that got close to getting out of hand, they broke apart when the need for air was becoming far too great and found themselves lying down side by side on the blanket.
A little giggle came from flushed lips of the oldest, her hair splayed about her head in a halo of gold. "M'm, I think we're quickly making that too much of a habit." Devi said with a smile before they were kissing again for several more minutes before both were upright and starting to enjoy the setting sun over the abundance of the food that had been packed with care.
"I can't believe you, out again all night!" was yelled at Devan as she walked through the front door. "And taking a car without asking! You aren't legal to drive! What if you'd been pulled over or caught by the paparazzi! Do you have any idea how much of a ticket and trouble that's going to cause!?" Lucky didn't stop, furious at her adopted little sister. "Wait, what is that?" she asked, finally noticing the picnic basket in her hand.
"I was out on a date, how nice of you to ask how it went." She told her with a yawn as she took the large wicker basket to the kitchen. She emptied its contents and stowed it away in a lower cupboard that had almost nothing in it before she was walking out into the living room where Brandie was still standing with her arms folded and waiting. "I'm sorry for fucking up, I never meant too, but I knew it would be the perfect date and it'd been so long since she and I were able to go out together anywhere alone, so I took advantage of the time we were going to have together and I borrowed it to take her out of town. I was extra careful about the roads I took and everything, so I'm sure that no one saw us. I promise. Now, I'm going to bed, you can send your report to the evil one." She told her with a smirk, know that the older woman who watched over them, really wasn't that evil, but nicknames died hard for their little group.
Devan went up to her room, closing and locking the door behind her and making her way for the bed, yawning and stripping her clothes off as she went. She let out a content hum when she got beneath the covers and mumbles softly to herself as she snuggled down into the pillows and began to drift off to pleasant dreams of the woman she loved so deeply.
We were supposed to be working on another album, but not one was. Dorinda and I just kept getting more and more time together, and it seemed like the albums we were meant to working on, just faded away into nothing. Forgotten. We were huge, popular, but we were just slipping away without anyone truly noticing where we'd gone. They'd remember us, one day.
"Whoo! Last day of school! I am outta here!" Devi yelled as she took a running jump into the air at the top of the stairs, throwing her arms up into the air before landing with a bit of a tuck and roll, that she thought would get her back up on her feet but had her sitting her butt at the staircase. She laughed, and turned to look at her best friend as he took her arm and pulled her up, linking their arms as they walked slowly away from the school. "So, we have summer before we come back to the hell hole… What're we doing?" he asked, the pair walking towards a black car that was sitting back behind the school buses, first in line of parents vehicles. "You know what, I don't know what we're going to do. We can find out where that hot football star of yours will be this summer and work on getting you stuck in his head so he has no choice but to ask you out." She said, with a laugh at the look he gave her as he was getting into the car after her. "You are bad." He said, lightly hitting her arm. She just laughed and her driver took them away from the curb slowly to drive them off.
