Albus and I stood at the bottom of the stairs worriedly as Mr Weasley climbed up.
"What are we going to do?" Albus whispered.
"Shut up," I hissed. "I'm thinking." After a few moments, a light bulb went on.
I hurried through my chest, looking for what I needed. Finally, I landed on the magic hand mirror that Astoria had gotten Scorpius and I for Christmas three years ago.
"What is that?" Albus deadpanned.
"Two way mirror," I said. "Scorpius Malfoy."
As I said it, Scorpius' trunk started to rattle. Drat. That didn't help at all.
"Does he have a phone?" Albus asked.
As an answer, I pulled both Romana and Scorpius' phones out of my pocket. They were small, ancient flip-phones for neither of them could work the simplest of smart phones. It was not for lack of trying, it was just lack of time to get used to them since smart phones were so much harder to magic proof and both of them were always surrounded by magical people.
"Never mind," He sighed, looking at the stairs ruefully. "I'll set up the funeral."
At that, I swatted his shoulder. "Don't be so pessimistic. Maybe Mr Weasley won't care so much."
"WHAT IS GOING ON IN HERE?!" Mr Weasley shrieked.
"Never mind…" I grimaced.
Albus and I hurried up the stairs to see…nothing incriminating. Scorpius was sitting in the desk chair playing with a computer and Rose was sitting in an arm chair reading a book. It seemed like this was a study. The two side walls were lined with bookshelves while the back wall was a floor to ceiling window. The room had a theme of woods and browns. The arm chair was large, brown leather and stuffed in the far left corner while a leather beanbag sat opposite.
"Hi, dad," Rose said cheerfully to her father with a smile on her face.
What in the world?
"Why are you on the computer?" Mr Weasley asked Scorpius suspiciously.
"I'm looking up statistics on how many Americans like American football, James says all of them, but I really doubt that," Scorpius explained.
Mr Weasley nodded stiffly and left with an annoyed glint in his eye. Albus and I stood in the doorway, our mouths hanging open. Once Mr Weasley had gone, Anna came out from behind the opened door.
"I came up the second he started asking about Scorpius and Romana," Anna explained.
With a smile, I ruffled her black braids. "You're sneakier than I remember."
Anna grimaced. "Not really…he's just really easy to fool."
Rose shrugged, "She's not wrong there."
I laughed at this. "Where are Romana and James?"
"They went to the treehouse," Scorpius said, turning off the computer.
"You have a treehouse?" I asked surprised, looking at Rose who just shrugged.
"The platform of one," She explained. "My Uncle George and his twin had always planned on building a treehouse there for their kids, so Uncle George tried but didn't get very far."
Albus went to go sit in a beanbag chair and as I was about to sit on the floor next to him, he pulled me onto his lap. A blush tried to take over my cheeks, but I only allowed a faint pink to rise. Scorpius raise an eyebrow at this with a knowing smirk that caused me to glare at him slightly.
Oblivious, Albus put his arms around my waist and pulled me closer to him, resting his chin on my left shoulder. Rose was looking at him like she was about to burst into laughter.
"Hey, Anna," Rose said, looking to my sister. "My cousin Lucy was asking if you wanted to play in the garden. She's only a year younger than you and-"
"Someone my age?!" Anna squealed running out the door causing me to chuckle.
"OK, so, not that I don't like Anna," Rose assured. "But why is she here? I guess I can understand Scorp and Romana, but…Anna? I know she's your sister, but you've mentioned how many times she's asked the Malfoys to adopt her even though she knows they can't."
I avoided her eyes and moved my gaze to another corner of the room. Why Anna was so attached to me was something that I had tried over and over again to forget, because it wasn't just due to the fact that we were roommates. It was what I told everyone, but you don't become basically sisters in just two normal weeks...
Flashback Three Years
Aladdin's POV
I couldn't wait for the first two weeks to end to end. After spending Spring Break with the Malfoys, they had offered for me to spend the summer with them. When I had brought it up with Miss Hannah, she said sure, but I would have to spend the first two weeks and the very last week at the orphanage.
During those weeks, I wasn't surprised when she made me get a temporary, under-the-table moving job. She said that the money went to "college tuition", but I knew that I would never see that money again.
When I arrived back the very first week, I was angry to see that I had been given a roommate. First of all, she was four years younger than me! The limit is supposed to be two years. Secondly, I hadn't had a roommate in years! However, I comforted myself with the fact that I wouldn't have to see her often.
It pained me some with how much the poor girl did try. The other orphans were very cold to her, for some odd reason, and for the few months that she had been there, she had latched onto the idea that maybe her roommate would like her.
As always, though, I ignored her mostly. Anna poured her heart out, telling me why she was in the orphanage. The poor girl had been abused by her father for years, and lived in a tiny closet in the basement. She had been locked away for burning dinner the night before her family was moving, and they seemed to have just forgotten about her. For three days, she was locked in a small, bare, dark room without the knowledge of if she would ever be able to leave. Anna was hoping beyond hope that she would be adopted by a nice family.
I coldly told her she had a fifteen percent chance of getting adopted due to her age causing her happy demeanor to fall. After that, Anna was very quiet. What I didn't understand, though, was that as she made quiet remarks, drew pictures that she hung all over our room, and smiled at me was that I was starting to like her.
It was near eight-thirty Saturday when I came back from a moving job, dead tired. My arms ached and I was starving due to the fact that Anna had cost us our dinner and breakfast the night before because she had stubbed her toe on her bed and cried out "too loudly". Usually, I would be pissed, but I couldn't find it in my heart to be mad at her. It wasn't her fault that she was reacting to pain.
I walked down the hallway to our room when I heard what sounded like screaming coming from the coat closet. Walking over to it, the screaming had stopped and a heart wrenching sobbing sound filled the air. I noticed the antique, skeleton key that was in the lock and quickly unlocked the door. When I did, I was attacked by Anna's small, sobbing form.
I quickly sat down and pulled her onto my lap as she sobbed into my shoulder. Her whole body was shaking, she was terrified.
As I comforted her, Miss Hannah walked by and sneered with a hateful yet sadistic look of pleasure in her eye.
"Loud noises are prohibited," She sneered. "No dinner, both of you. Go to your room."
I glared at her retreating form as I rubbed Anna's back calmingly. That woman, I hated her so much. So, so much.
"It's OK," I whispered to Anna. "You're safe. You're safe here. You're OK. You're with me. It's OK."
Anna sniffled and looked up at me with tear-filled eyes. "I'm sorry for costing you dinner again," Anna's bottom lip trembled.
"I couldn't care less. I'm just happy that you are OK." I said. The amount of truth in those two sentences shocked me to pieces.
Anna rested her head on my chest and curled herself into me. She was so small due to having grown in a closet, so I carefully lifted her and brought her to our room. I laid her down on her cot, but she grabbed my t-shirt as I went to leave.
"Can you sleep with me?" She asked quietly.
Without a second thought, I nodded and laid down wither her, hugging her to my chest. That night, she woke up multiple times due to nightmares.
When the end of the second week came, Anna wouldn't let go, sobbing her little heart out.
"Don't leave, Allie, please," She begged as Miss Hannah seemed very flustered due to the fact that this was happening in front of the Malfoys. "Miss Hannah's mean! Please!"
I looked at Scorpius, pleading with him to tell me what to do. I really didn't want to leave her at the mercy of Miss Hannah.
Draco suddenly glared at Miss Hannah as if she had just hit his son. It wasn't until we got to his house did I learn he was a skilled at Legilimency, an untraceable form of magic, and had learned about the methods of discipline used on the orphans.
"Aladdin," I looked up at him. "Go help this little girl pack."
"A-are you serious?" I gaped happily.
Draco nodded and I hurried off to get Anna's things. Anna was ecstatic that she would be coming with me.
On the car ride, Scorpius fell asleep, because he's Scorp and can't keep his eyes open for a second in a car. Astoria and Draco were talking in whispers and Anna was laying on my lap as I stroked her hair.
"Allie?" She asked.
"Hm…?"
"I'm not getting adopted, am I?" Her voice was filled with sadness and hopelessness. I regretted telling her the statistic.
"You might," I said, trying to reinstall her hope.
"But I want a family, now," She said quietly. "Will you…Can you…Allie, can I be your sister? You know, in everything except blood?"
I smiled to myself, "Sure."
Anna smiled up at me and then adjusted her body to get more comfortable.
"Thank you, Aladdin. I love you."
"I…" I gulped. "I love you, too."
That was the first time anyone had ever told me they loved me and the first time that I had ever said the words. They came naturally when talking to Anna, though. I leaned down and kissed her temple as she drifted into the realms of sleep.
"I love you, too."
"-din…?"
"Allie?"
I blinked and noticed everyone looking at me with varying forms of worry.
"Sorry," I apologized. "What?"
Scorpius raised his eyebrows at me. "You OK?"
"Fine," I said.
"Do you know what I just said?"
"No," I shrugged causing him to roll his eyes. Rose laughed slightly.
"Thanks for leaving me to put up with them on my own," Albus grumbled causing me to furrow my eyebrows in confusion.
"What are you talking about?" I asked.
"Scorp just asked when you two were going to make it official," Rose explained.
"Make what official?" I growled, glaring at Scorpius. If it was what I thought he was I was going to
"You and Albus," Rose said.
Kill him. Yep, I was going to have to kill him now.
"Shut it," I growled, glaring at him.
"C'mon!" Scorpius moaned throwing his head back to look at the ceiling. "You two already act as if you're dating except for kissing."
Albus snorted. "Nope," He decided. "Allie is a very clingy girlfriend."
I turned to glare at him. "I am not!" I complained. "It just so happened that you were also the only other kid at Hogwarts half the time!"
Albus rolled his eyes, "Yea, OK."
"It's not like you were ever complaining."
"Well, yea, especially since literally every guy in the Wizarding world wanted to court you! Even the Baron before he met Helena!"
"Um, hello, two words-Angelina. Macao."
A dreamy look passed over Albus' features. "Now she was pretty…"
My eyebrows rose sharply, "Excuse me?"
Albus' eyes widened. "I mean, she wasn't my type and all…er…"
I watched Albus stumble and stutter for a little while whilst Rose and Scorpius howled in laughter. Albus' face turned red as he tried to explain that he hadn't meant offense.
"That's what I thought."
After dinner, I was sitting on the back porch sipping coffee as most of the Weasleys and Potters had left to go play Quidditch. Romana, Scorpius and Anna had decided to join them while Albus and I stayed behind. I was watching the sun set, wondering how much longer they would be when Albus appeared with a mug of what seemed to be tea.
The back porch was a brick patio surrounded by low, brick wall where I was sitting. Albus sat on my right, letting his legs dangle while mine were crossed.
"Knut for your thoughts," Albus said.
I snorted. "My thoughts are worth more than a knut."
Albus rolled his eyes at me, "Sure they are." He looked into my mug and seemed surprise. "What in the world are you drinking?!"
I took a sip, "Coffee. Black. Like my soul."
Albus raised an eyebrow at me as a smile graced his face. "Yeah. Right. OK, Cory."
I groaned and pushed his shoulder lightly. "I hate that name and you know it."
Albus looked down at his tea and smiled a rueful (A/N: *cries because of the Hunger Games*) smile. "Yea, I know."
I cocked my head and looked at him, "You OK?"
Albus nodded, but there was a sad look on his face.
"Look at me," I demanded.
It took a minute, but Albus soon turned and looked at me causing me to gasp to myself. His eyes, a deep emerald green, were being intensified by the sunlight playing off of them revealing what seemed like veins of gold in side of them. They were the most captivating color I had ever seen.
Without my knowledge, Albus and I were getting closer and closer, our mugs abandoned at opposites sides (mine to my left and Albus' to his right), until our faces were a hairsbreadth away. My eyes flickered down from his eyes to his lips and before I knew it, we were kissing.
Albus' POV
My family, Romana, Scorpius and Anna had abandoned Aladdin and me long ago when the sun was setting. I was surprised when Aladdin said she didn't want to go, which was a great relief. Since there was more than just one person here, I wouldn't be dragged out as well.
I made a mug of tea and noticed that Aladdin seemed to be watching the sunset on the back porch whilst sipping tea. It was a serene scene, the way the light played with Aladdin's already petite features.
I walked out to the back and sat next to her, she seemed so deep in thought. "Knut for your thoughts."
Aladdin snorted. "My thoughts are worth more than a knut."
I rolled my eyes, of course she would say that. "Sure they are." I peered into her cup and noticed that, instead of the lightly colored tea I expected I noticed a nearly black brew that resembled the color of her eyes and hair. Her hair was just a few shades lighter, however. "What in the world are you drinking?!"
She took a sip, "Coffee. Black. Like my soul." She said lightly causing me to raise an eyebrow. Aladdin's soul was far from being considered black, though it took me a while to realize that.
"Yeah. Right. OK, Cory," I laughed, accidentally slipping into the old nickname I used for her.
Aladdin groaned and pushed my shoulder lightly. "I hate that name and you know it."
I smiled down into my mug ruefully. Back in what I had named the "old" life, Aladdin would have cut me off before the second syllable with a kiss. Now, she just pushed me. "Yea, I know," I sighed.
I didn't look at her, even when she asked, "You OK?" I just nodded, sipping my tea as I just continued looking at the grass in front of us.
"Look at me," It was a demand. I could have easily ignored it, of course, but after about a minute I turned to look at her.
When I looked at her, I saw what I always saw and more. She was like an antique picture with her porcelain skin and dark hair and eyes contrasting greatly. It wasn't as if her skin was a sickly pale, more like it rang health. I had known I had a crush on her when November started, but I could never bring it up.
Without my knowledge, our cups sat abandoned and we weren't but a hair away from one another. Aladdin's eyes flitted to my mouth and before I knew it we were kissing.
I was kissing Aladdin Parker.
I was on cloud nine.
"You owe me ten galleons, Potter!"
And I was so dead.
AN:
Well...sorry, I had to do it. Anna was right there and Ron has always been easy to fool.
Also-I am a Ravenclaw. In order from most likely to least likely it goes: Ravenclaw, Slytherin (reeeeaaaaalllllly close), Gryffindor (not that close) and Hufflepuff. You see, the issue is I have a slight problem with being nice to people...I blame my parents. It's how I got my name-Raven cause of Ravenclaw and Emerald because of Slytherin colors.
By the way, if you read this please put a Read It in the review. I just want to see how many people actually read these things. Thanks, friends!
I hope you all enjoyed the story,
Raven in Emerald.
