Chapter 12
The bell rang, signalling the break time; the students hurriedly packed their things and went out of the room, leaving a couple of students. Some of them were starting to arranged their tables and get their lunch boxes.
Uchiha Sasuke was still in his seat, brooding. The room's chattering was silence when they saw Ino walked towards the Uchiha's seat. The raven-haired boy looked up to her with a blank expression.
"Let's talk about the research at the library later after class." she said and turned her back on him and began walking outside of the room. Sasuke looked at Naruto who just gave him a cold stare and followed the girls out of the room.
"Why don't you just exchange your partner Ino? We all know you're not comfortable with him," Naruto blurted out all of a sudden, they were now walking along the corridor towards the canteen; both Ino and Sakura looked at him with disbelief.
"You're being sensible cousin, congratulations." Ino said dryly.
"I'm not kidding Ino." He retorted.
"Are you mad at Sasuke, Naruto?" Sakura asked, now totally confused at Naruto's mood; she walked ahead of the two blonds only to stop in front of them preventing them to take another step. The blonds exchanged looks and turned to her.
"You're just paranoid Billboard Brow" it was Ino who answered but the pinkette didn't buy her comment and pulled the other blond away from her. "Hey~ . . .!" Ino protested but the two was out of her sight right away.
"What's with them?" Ino heard Kiba spoke and she looked around to see him and Hinata walked towards her.
"I guess they just want to spend sometime together. Mind if I join you, lovers?" she teased which made Hinata blushed bright red and Kiba just answered her with a grin.
"Okay, this is far enough." Sakura said in between breaths. "Let's talk Naruto."
"What about . . ?" Naruto asked as he gave Sakura his water; she shyly took it but gulped its contents fast.
"About Sasuke" she said as she took a deep breath after she finished drinking. "He told me last night you two had a talk."
"We didn't talk." He answered uninterested,
"Will you please stop being annoying?!" she almost yelled at him. "Hear me out before you say anything!"
"Then talk already." Naruto said and the pink-haired girl glared at him.
"Okay; first let me clear things out. The rumor about Sasuke-kun and that Karin girl is true; someone saw them kissing yesterday BUT it was . . . uhm, how to say this . . ." Sakura stopped briefly, thinking for a proper word to say "planned? It was on purpose?" Sakura finished explaining and as she looked at the boy in front of her, all she saw was a blank stare. "Naruto . . .?"
"I won't believe you" was all Naruto said to her and Sakura's temper immediately flared.
"What did you just say?" she asked, her voice was calm as she was trying to hold onto her anger.
"I won't believe you" Naruto repeated.
"Would you care to clarify that?" she asked again, and this time she was giving dagger glares onto the blond boy. Naruto sighed in defeat.
"I saw him yesterday with Karin." He started and Sakura could see the anger he was feeling "I saw them at the park; Karin was clingy and all but that Teme didn't do anything to shove her away. He was Uchiha Sasuke and he hated being hugged by anyone!" he blurted out and looked at the girl in front of him. "Oh yeah~ he may have a purpose, but I think that purpose is to finally replace Ino." He added coldly.
"Naruto . . ." Sakura softly said "Listen that's not true . . ."
"What I said is true!" he retorted.
"Okay, okay!" Sakura surrendered then look at Naruto. "Okay! You saw them at the park but that too, was according to the plan." She said
"What's with that plan?" Naruto asked now irritated at the pink-haired girl's vagueness
"Deidara-san" Sakura said in almost a whisper; she looked at Naruto and she clearly saw his eyes went wide.
"What's with Dei-niisan?" he asked now feeling nervous.
"Well, Ino's brother made a deal with Sasuke-kun" Sakura started and Naruto waited patiently for her to continue. The pink-haired girl took a deep breath before she continued. "Ino's older brother, your Deidara-niisan told Sasuke-kun that if he dated that Karin girl for a week, he would help Sasuke-kun to win Ino back." She paused to inhale "I think your cousin wants Sasuke to prove that he is really serious on Ino."
"That's impossible." Naruto unbelievably utter, "Dei-niisan is surely protective over Ino but I don't think he would pull something like this" Sakura just sighed at his comment.
"Believe it or not, that was the reason why Sasuke-kun let that Karin be all too clingy to him" she said "he did that just to be with Ino again. Can't you see how serious he is to your cousin?"
"But didn't he think that Ino would be very upset once she knows about this?" Naruto argued.
"Of course he knows. Let's just hope their plan would work" Sakura said as she too also wonders about what would happen.
"This is a big mess, really" Naruto suddenly said,
It's good his mood is now back to normal Sakura thought happily
"What's with that smile, Sakura-chan?" Naruto said a little concern, he walked a little bit closer to Sakura, but was tripped by a pebble and lost his balance and landed right in front of the pink-haired girl; their face was mere inches away from each other and they could feel each other's breath.
Both teenager's faces were flushed at their proximity; realizing their awkward position, Naruto hurriedly stood up and extended his hand for Sakura; the young woman held onto his hand so he can pulled her up but because of the fall, she was a little balance-disoriented and hadn't had a time to gain her stability so she was dragged straight with Naruto. When he noticed their distance, he suddenly looked away and both of them were still blushing.
"I-I think we n-need to g-go back" Sakura stuttered after gaining her senses and walked ahead of him.
Ino was sitting at the farthest corner of the library, waiting for her partner. She was flipping some book that she got to ease her boredom; a few minutes later, she saw Sasuke pulled a chair right beside her; the students in the library, specially the girls looked at their direction and exchanged strange looks.
"If your new girlfriend sees us, she would be very mad." Ino commented wryly, Sasuke looked at her with his trademark smirk.
"Jealous are we, Ino?" he shot back and Ino gave him a death glare before moving to the chair opposite of him.
"Don't say any nonsense Uchiha, let's get into this damn project." Ino hissed, Sasuke just kept his smirk as he watched his former girlfriend flipped another random book. The silence was less awkward as compared to the last time they were together and so Sasuke just savoured the moment . . . it was until Karin interrupted it by hugging him from behind.
"I soooo miss you, Sasuke-kun~!" she squealed which made the whole students looked at them, again.
"Will you please lower your voice Miss?!" the librarian called onto Karin which she just ignored.
"Let go Karin" Sasuke said annoyingly, Karin let go of him and sit on the chair that Ino was sitting at earlier.
"Will you please leave us? We're here to do a project." Ino said angrily.
"Here to do a project, Yamanaka? Or you're just here to try and take Sasuke-kun away from me?" Karin mocked but Ino ignored her.
"Why you're here?" Sasuke asked the red-head girl with an annoyed tone; Karin just giggled.
"I just missed you that's why I'm here" Karin beamed which caused both Ino and Sasuke to frown.
"We're busy, go away" Sasuke replied, very irritated.
"You don't want me here?" Karin asked, looking at Sasuke with puppy dog eyes; Ino rolled her eyes at the sight.
"Yes." Sasuke replied coldly, Karin sighed heavily, feeling hurt so she just gave up and walked away. Ino looked at the retreating figure of the red-headed girl and suddenly felt sorry for her. She's very irritating, alright; but she doesn't deserve to be treated like that.
"You should be more appreciative towards your fan girls Uchiha" she commented idly as she turned her gaze towards the raven-haired boy. Sasuke returned her gaze; a smirk was plastered on his face.
"heh~ someone's talking about appreciation." Sasuke said as he kept his stare on her
"Let's get this project started." Ino changed topic and started her work. Sasuke looked at her for a couple of seconds before he indulged himself on his own research.
