Chapter 14
The fivesome from Corona looked at Jacklyn as she examined their hands.
'This isn't weird at all,' they all thought.
Jacklyn looked up at them and blew on their palms softly, covering them in blue, shimmering, frost.
"Just give it a moment," she muttered.
A few seconds later, she nodded and they wiped their hands clean.
Nada.
Zip.
Zilch.
Zero.
Not a single mark was left.
This would probably be the best time to panic, right?
Yeah, it was the perfect time to panic!
What's not to panic about the fact Jacklyn healed* their wounds and has the powers of Winter?
Yes, yes. This was the exact, perfect moment, for a panic attack.
The fivesome shared a look, opened their mouths and-
"Please don't freak out! I said there was more to my powers than what I just did!" Jacklyn yelled, holding her hands out. So much for panicking. Sighing, Jacklyn shook the staff in her hands lightly. She was quiet for a long time.
"Listen, Frostbite," Aster began, "ya don't-"
"There was a prophecy." Jacklyn began. "Gothel showed it to me. She told me that, two years after finding and losing Rapunzel, she found my parents. My father was dead, and my mother...my real mother, she wouldn't be able to make it. She was almost gone. The last thing she did, was ask Gothel to take care me, let me know that they loved me and always would. I was only a baby when they died."
The others were intrigued.
Prophecy? Dead parents? Gothel of all people being asked to care for a baby?
"What was the prophecy?" Flynn asked, "Uh, if you don't mind me asking..."
Jacklyn shook her head, "I don't mind. It was this..."
She closed her and recited the prophecy from memory,
"On the eve of the Solstice of Winter,
a child was to be born.
The daughter of Winter and Snow,
a child of the Moon and of the Earth below.
The bearer of frost,
ice,
snow,
and fun.
On the eve of the Solstice of Winter,
her powers will peak.
But beware,
for there are others who'll come far and wide,
for the power they seek.
Gothel didn't know what it meant until my birthday came. On my birthday, I change. My powers become stronger because I am Winter itself. I was the Child of Snow, the Daughter of Winter and Snow. I was the Moon's and Earth's child. My powers, I can use them every day...but on my birthday, my powers go wild, I have to go out, and spread it. I became the embodiment of Winter. But, that led to a lot of things...When I was five, someone tried to kidnap me. I was freaked out that it would happen again, so unless she was with me, I never wandered far from..."
"You were afraid to leave your tower?" Tooth replied. Jacklyn nodded and looked over at them, "Promise not to tell? Pinkie promise? As I always say, a promise isn't a true promise unless they're pinkie promises!"
The others laughed and nodded. They sat around the fire, sharing stories together. It seemed nothing could make the night worse.
The next day, they had finally reached the bridge that would lead to Corona. Jacklyn smiled and ran forwards. She waved to everyone as they walked by. She had changed her old dress into a different one, not wanting to wear the wet garment while she explored the city.
"...I heard that witch was to be hung..."
"...burned at the..."
"...pish-posh, she'll be beheaded..."
"...thrown to the dungeons for life..."
"...drowned..."
"...boiled alive..."
Jacklyn clutched her staff tightly as everyone spoke of her mother's soon to be death. She just wanted to get her mother, run off with her, and never look back. She wanted to live her dream. She didn't want to hide anymore, she wanted people to look at her not as the embodiment of Winter, but as a fun loving girl. She wanted people to look at her mother not as a witch, but as true, caring mother. It was hard for them. But Gothel changed, Jacklyn changed every year on her birthday, so why couldn't everyone else change or accept it?
With a heavy sigh, she looked at the castle. 'Soon mother, soon...'
She sighed when the Guardians and Flynn walked over to her. They all walked around, exploring the city. To Jacklyn, the experiene was wonderful. No one knew her, which made it that much more exciting for her.
"You were hiding something from me," A man sneered, "weren't you, Gothel?"
Gothel scoffed, "Kozmotis, it's never a pleasure to see you."
The man scoffed back. His golden eyes were the only things Gothel could see at the moment. Not that she cared.
"I know you hid the Child of Winter, after all, I know of the prophecy."
Gothel's eyes widened in fear. He knew? But how?! She never told anyone! Jacklyn never told anyone! She hardly left the tower since the kidnap attempt! So how could he know?!
"How do you know?" Gothel hissed. Kozmotis laughed, "I was the one to have her parents killed. But the idiot didn't grab the girl before you came along. And now that you're about to die..." His golden eyes flashed coldly, "her powers will be mine for the taking. So long, Gothel."
'No...' Gothel sat back in her cell, eyes wide and filling with tears, 'no...I can't let him...I have to protect her...she's my daughter now, I must see to it she stays safe...but how?'
Gothel looked up at the ceiling, praying, hoping, that Jacklyn was in safe hands should she ever be found.
Kura: Dun-dun-dun!
Sakura: Review.
*One of the things Jacklyn can do, but isn't used as often or at all.
