Chapter 14

He was a coward, an asshole and he sure as Hell didn't deserve to have someone like Maka in his life. He couldn't go through with it and instead of telling her about Geneva, he'd spent the time telling her of the trip he'd be setting out for. A trip he was packing up for right now, he finished and set the suitcase by the door he'd leave tomorrow morning something he was loath to but couldn't help. A knock on his door brought him out of his mental checklist, he peeked through the peephole only to be met with darkness, he chuckled opening the door and greeted the small woman that launched herself into his arms. "Hey." He greeted smiling "Hi." She smiled back wrapping her arms around his neck and pecking him on the lips. He walked with her to his couch and set her on his lap. He looked into her bright green eyes and decided she was worth too much to lose with a sigh he steeled his resolve "Maka, there's something I should tell you." He began his voice serious and she frowned "What is it Soul?" she asked tilting her head sideways looking into his somber red eyes, he ran his fingers through his hair and continued "A few months ago, an old friend of my Father's came to ask me to marry his daughter, I refused his offer and then his daughter came to Death City, ever since then she comes to the office and throws a fit. I wanted to tell you sooner but I didn't exactly know how." he ended with a shrug, Maka nodded and looked away unsure on how to respond his hands brought her back to look at him "I have no intention of marrying her at all, and I never have I don't want to worry about it at all." The ash blond bit her lip as she gauged the truth in his words.

"Is she still here?" Maka asked he nodded "Yeah, I don't know why she won't leave I've told her over and over again I won't marry her and that I have a girlfriend but she won't listen." The ash blond bobbed her head once again, he eyed her warily "Don't hurt her." The woman snorted "I won't, but she might have an accident sooner or later." Soul's eyes widened "What kind of accident?" she shrugged a slender shoulder "I don't know, she might get hit by a car, or fall down a bunch of stairs. The world is a playground with accidents just waiting to happen." Snowy hair flopped from side to side as the man shook his head, chuckles rumbling in his broad chest "You are something else Albarn." She gave a wide grin "I know." She kissed him softly snuggling her head in the crook of his neck afterwards "I don't want you to go." She whispered, he grimaced at her words "I know love, I know but I can't help it bills don't pay themselves." She sighed resignedly "Yeah, but you'll be careful right?" he grinned his nose buried in her silky hair as he hummed in response. Her arms tightened around him and she inhaled his scent a mixture of leather, Old Spice and something just plain Soul, she'd miss him he'd always been there but now he'd be gone for a month or so. "Oh!" she gasped "Guess what?" Soul startled at her sudden excitement "What?" she lifted her head to look him dead on a smile taking up her features "I got promoted!" serrated teeth peeked from his lips "Are you serious!" her head bobbed up and down hair flopping wildly "You're now looking at the part time manager of DC's Toys!" she beamed he laughed squeezing her tightly as she giggled and squealed asking him to let her go.

"That's great Maka, I'm so proud of you." He said happily and he was, she was more than capable of managing the toy store. "What do you do?" he asked "I help make decisions about new products, make sure everything runs smoothly, I'll hold meetings with other possible toy companies when Sid can't do it and other stuff too." He shook his head in disbelief; she was amazing holding her own and not counting on anyone for anything not very women were that way, he'd struck gold with her. He hoped this would last, for years maybe even forever, forever sounded nice. They spent the day lounging and watching movies, night approached too soon and they knew that eventually they would go their separate ways until they would see each other again. "Maka?" Soul asked waiting for green eyes to meet his she hummed in response "Will you stay the night?" She smiled "Sure." They got ready for bed, cuddling into each other warmth surrounding them as sleep blanketed them in its embrace.

The next morning found Maka sleeping in an empty bed, a note left on his pillow.

Maka,

Please be careful while I'm away I'll miss you and remember that I love you. By the way you look good in my shirt.

Love always, Soul.

Maka smiled and got out of bed, padding to his kitchen and grabbing the box of cereal off the fridge there was a knock at the door and she contemplated answering it since this wasn't her apartment, the knocking became incessant annoying the crap out of her, so she answered it. Coming face to face with… a hooker? She frowned eyeing the woman in front of her "Um… May I help you?" she asked the other woman sized her up as well "Who the fuck are you?" she sneered haughtily as if Maka was some kind of disgusting bug, Maka tried reigning in her anger "Maka and you?" the other woman sniffed looking down at Maka over her nose "I'm Geneva, Soul's fiancé." Maka laughed "Ah, so you're the delusional bitch coming around." Geneva scowled "There is no delusion here, I'm sure you're the girl he told me about the one he's trying to get rid of but can't." Maka's temper threatened to boil over "Look bitch, I don't care what the fuck you think or who the fuck you are Soul told me about you and I feel sorry for you and shit but I promise you that if you don't leave him alone I will gladly kick your ass, I don't give a fuck how rich you are." And with that she slammed the door in the brunette's face. Maka leaned against the door and tried to calm down what was it with chicks and not learning the fucking word REJECTED?! She was going to have a talk with Soul when he called, because there was no way in Hell she was going to put up with Geneva's ass.
