Chapter Fourteen
Team Rocket's Signs of Change
Charm stood her ground as the black mass rumbled towards her. She held her sword up and prepared to bring on a world of hurt to this pain-in-the-tail terror.
She suddenly felt something push her in the lower back. 'Is that Rob trying to get her to follow him again – blast it all! Why can't I fight my own fights?' she thought.
She felt her body lift off the ground and get tossed aside from the force of something being launched from behind her - a massive fiery sonic shock struck the wave of black goo, vaporizing the majority of it. She looked up to see her own Dark Moltres flying away. She looked back and saw that her armor had launched the Pokémon from the built-in PokéBall holders!
"I'm going to have to report this to the manufacturer!" she grumbled at the unrequested release. She then found herself being hauled up by North.
"Now, come on!" he barked and they headed back up the steps towards the altar.
"Myu!"
Charm and North watched her Mew shoot skywards. The psychic wave sent out by Mauvais seemed to effect it little, as it continued up towards where the Lugia circled.
Lady banked hard. She glared at the creature that had once held her captive, and released a piercing sonic shrill at it. White Lugia turned opposite to her, sending his own blast at the dark Mew. The air around the cat wavered and twisted.
But, even to those far below, Mauvais now seemed little bothered by this attack. It formed a huge red orb around itself that struck the two Legendary Birds, sending them reeling away. It then was confronted by Charm's Mew, which passed through the energy field like it had not been there.
"Myu?" she asked.
"Ha!" Mauvais said. "You missed your chance to become perfect, little one!" He then raised a paw at the Mew. "Your arms are a touch short, but they will do…"
An energy orb started to form in its palm, but Mew struck first, striking Mauvais in the head with her tail, which she had energized. The blow sent the Black Mew tumbling backwards, striking the back of Lady Lugia, who added her own tail-lashing to the creature. It headed for the Prime MewTwo, but stopped itself in time. He floated back up and looked at Mew and smiled.
"Impressive," it grinned. "I must remember to add that to my attacks!" Mauvais then struck back, sending energy and psychic rings out from its body.
"This is bad… very bad…"
Slowking stepped up to the altar. He looked up at the goddess and demon, who were still recovering from the first psychic shock.
"Your charges have violated the treaty," he sluggishly told them in a droll tone. "It will be void if you do not bring them to order."
Puruu and Xuru looked at the odd Pokémon. They then turned their attention to the small flashes high above them.
"My charge failed to answer my command," Xuru grumbled. "She doesn't understand what violating the treaty will do…"
Puruu looked to the sky, as if someone was talking to her.
"Yes sir…" she said. "The Treaty of Advent will be voided, and chaos will rule if we do not alter this."
The demon looked at the ground and sighed. "Agreed…"
"Wait a minute," Charm yelped having just made her way back up the steps. "You agree with her? I thought demons never agreed with… er… her…"
"You'd be surprised at just how much they agree on things at times," North told her as he panted from the climb.
The demon and goddess looked down at Charm and North. She was surprised to see them both nod towards him, and he wave back as he leaned against his knees. "It's only in fiction that we disagree… all the time…" the demon acknowledged.
"And in this case, we both know what will happen if the Treaty is voided…" Puruu added.
"You thought the total destruction of all life was bad…" Strom said, climbing over the edge of the cliff. "The chaos breaking the Treaty would bring would make Mauvais' destruction of the worlds seem peaceful…"
"The Treaty prevents the armies of the dark and light from using this universe, or any others as their battlegrounds," North explained.
"Great," Charm mumbled. "When did this get decided?"
North laughed as he rose from his bent-over position. "Actually, come to think about that… aren't we doing that right about now?" he asked the starship captain.
"It's all relative to me," he moaned while stretching. "We can always get the author over here if we need."
Charm clanked her armor. "What the hell are you yammering about?" she asked. "Are you saying that wherever it was this treaty was made, you're there now?"
"Yay temporal physics!" North cheered. "And you'd never guess who wrote it!"
She pointed at him. He shook his head. She pointed at Strom, who was looking a bit worse for wear. He again conveyed no.
Strom snapped his fingers to get their attention. "You two," he ordered.
"Who, us?" Charm asked. She then was surprised to see he was pointing at the goddess and demon, and they looked concerned!
"Get them under control… NOW," he demanded.
They bowed towards Strom. They then floated over to the altar.
"Why are they doing what he ordered?" Charm whispered to Rob.
North pondered the answer a moment. "It's his jurisdiction," he told her. Charm looked at him puzzled. "It is," he insisted.
"Angel of the LIGHT!"
"Demon of the DARK!"
Demon Mya and Angel Mya found themselves being yanked from the sky. They then found themselves presented before their respective watchers.
"Ma'am," the chibi angel said, bowing her disheveled head to Puruu, then to Xuru.
"Humph!" Demon Mya snorted as a wisp of smoke trailed off her shoulders.
"You failed to listen to my orders, Myamoto," Xuru glared at the small Demon.
"I work for the freedom of our kind," Demon Myamoto said, turning away from her supervisor. She found herself facing Strom's angry glare, and she shimmied away.
"Your kind? YOUR KIND? What KIND would THAT be?" the Supreme snapped back.
"What do you mean?" the dark Mya asked.
"You're not even a true demon!" he barked.
Mya moved back. "What?"
"You are a split soul, Myamoto," North explained, both to her and the others around, "the only case known of the same soul on both the dark and light sides."
"A true demon, a true angel, is a complete soul," Puruu added with her eyes closed, bowing her head.
"But the dark understands that it needs the light," Xuru continued. "Without it, there is void. You are attempting to release nothing but gray. You say that you're freeing your kind… The demons don't want this!"
"You are about to release a war that neither side wants," Strom ground in. "If you were complete, you'd KNOW this… you'd FEEL this!"
Demon Mya glared at him. "How would YOU know how I feel?"
"You wouldn't ask that if you knew him," North said, shaking his head.
"I know who this human is!" the demon spat. But then she saw who she had snarled at, and turned away. She felt a hand touch her, and a shiver ran up her spine. She stopped floating, and fell into the hand, and looked back at North.
"You would have let that thing have me earlier?" he asked, reminding her of the black goo that had nearly taken him over.
"No…" she said quietly.
North smiled. "You see? Even in this state, you still have a piece of her in you," he said, gesturing to the chibi angel. North reached over, and the other Mya stepped into his left hand.
"And I must admit that I have a little of you within me as well," the angel whispered. The demon lowered her head.
"What must I do to prevent the war?" Demon Mya asked.
"Not much… only reduce the influence over Mauvais that you've given," Puruu said with a smile.
"What?" Strom blurted, but then thought about it. "Oh, okay… retract any assistance in this current situation…"
"How so?" PBM asked as she and M2 landed nearby for a brief rest.
Strom looked up at the battle raging above them. The Black Mew was starting to trash its opposition, and rather easily too.
"Mauvais should not have been able to merge with the Mew, only coat it, like any other animal it touched."
M2 looked at the demon. "So this Myamoto gave Mauvais the power to merge with Mew?"
"Correct - it wasn't a Pokémon evolution - it was an unnatural mixing of energy and bodies," Strom said with a grim tone to his voice.
The Dark Mya sighed. "Very well… so be it!" She snapped her fingers.
Nothing happened. The battle raged on.
"Huh?" she puzzled and snapped her fingers again. Still there was nothing.
"Umm," she mumbled and snapped her fingers multiple time with nary a result, "something's wrong… I can't retract it!"
"Allow me to help," Xuru said, taking the chibi demon from North. She placed the small Myamoto to her forehead.
"HUHHHH!" Mya cried as her eyes flew wide and her dark wings spread. A burst of dark energy shot skywards, illuminated to one side by the sun as it broke along the horizon.
The beam struck the Black Mew. It let out a scream. Those on the ground held their ears, but continued to watch as the shape of the Mew could be seen glowing within the orb of energy.
"What? What is THIS?" As the energy faded, the black remained on the Mew, but no longer inside the creature. Once again, it was a glistening black skin of goo that covered the Psy-cat.
"MYAMOTO!" Mauvais shouted. "YOU!"
She looked up at her creation, a look of sadness in her eyes. "I must…"
"RRRRRAAAAAHHH!" Mauvais reared back and launched a massive orb of energy down at the altar site, specifically towards the Demon that had betrayed it.
"NO!" Angel Myamoto shot into the air. Before anyone could speak her name, tell her to stop, make her come back, she met the orb head on.
Demon Myamoto grabbed her neck. She toppled off of Xuru's head, and fell to Charm's feet, gasping and reeling in pain. Above her, the orb exploded in a shower of sparks that pelted the area.
"MYA!" North shouted, watching the last vestiges of the angel scatter. He looked down at the ground at where the demon Mya had fallen, only to see her fade into nothingness. He looked up at Puruu and Xuru, only to find them with their eyes closed, and a red and blue aura surrounding them. Then, as all watched, the auras mixed, swirled, and then shot off their bodies to the southeast.
"What was…" was all PBM said before they noticed that the goddess and the demon were no longer in sight.
"Later," Strom said. "Now, we have a fighting chance!"
Lady and Lugia swooped in on the distracted evil creature. They both blared a sonic wave that struck the Mew, tearing the black goo from her body.
"NO! NO! NOOOO!" shouted Mauvais, as it was removed from the form with as much force as possible. The last piece was eliminated by Prime MewTwo, as he caught his falling Mew in his arms.
Below, as the rain of black goo fell over the water, Zapdos, Moltres and Articuno flew in to destroy the remainder of the glop with sonic waves, ice beams and fire blasts.
"Now THAT'S the end of Mauvais!" PBM's Pikachu said with a grin.
"Is it?" Everyone looked down at Slowking, as he stepped up to his altar. He sighed, and looked at the new sun coming up over the ocean. "Just how much of him was in our waters? Does anyone know?"
Strom looked out over the sea at Forrestal. "As soon as we can get my ship back up and running, we'll be able to find that out."
"Don't look too long, Captain!"
Strom looked about. The voice seemed to come from all around them - that unmistakable voice of Mauvais!
"Great!" North said, scanning the area with a rod. He turned and stopped at the altar.
"Oh, that's not good!" Slowking said, stepping away from the podium. Where once green life-giving waters had flowed, black slime gurgled out. It reared up as it struck the ground, and shot for M2 and PBM, striking them, and sending them over the edge of the cliff! It followed close behind.
"Persistent bugger, ain't it?" the Pikachu said, rubbing its head after falling off PBM's shoulder.
M2 felt the material start on his feet as he fell. His Doorknob crackled. A pain shot up his leg. He looked over at PBM, reaching out for her. He could see the material doing much the same to her.
"Don't resist! It will only hurt more when you hit!"
He turned to see who said that. He got a face full of Muuma!
"Going down, MewTwo! Enjoy the dip!" it said with a smile.
The water was cold. Very very cold.
The Muuma laughed as they hit. She would get her revenge on them yet. She remained over the spot where they had slashed down to watch over her master's plan.
The two MewTwo almost went into shock when they felt the coldness of the water strike them. They struggled as the black goo started to slowly take over their body. M2 tried to raise the level on his Doorknob but it only increased the pain. He looked over at PBM and could see the terror in her eyes. Just then the wave of the dark morass hit them. The people on the island could do nothing but wait for right now until the MewTwo emerged.
Above in the shuttle, BJP saw the Muuma. She leapt for the rear and slid the hatch open. She took out her PokéBall.
"Psyche! I want you!" she called out and tossed it to the rear of the cabin. Out popped her Butterfree.
"Wreee?" it asked in its usual bewildered way.
BJ gestured towards the hatchway. "Hey, guess who's back?" she asked.
"Wree?" The Butterfree looked and saw the ghost Pokémon floating around. "Wreek!"
BJ gave it a curt smile. "Want to get some pay back?" she asked.
"Wee WREE!" replied the Butterfree with a somewhat psychotic look on its face.
"Sneak up behind that creature, and give it a sonic blast it'll never forget!" she ordered.
She awoke. Whirling in the water – Black ooze – No AIR!
PBM could see the incoming goo. It was almost like an oil slick – it just kept popping up everywhere! And now she was under water!
'Keep calm… its just water. You've done this a million times before,' she told herself. Spinning she threw an energy orb around herself and M2, rebounding the black mess of goo and stripping it away from them.
"What did you do?!" the male MewTwo yelled.
That startled her – she expected thanks, not a cry of pain from M2.
She looked at him. He had a panicked look on his face. "Huh?" she asked.
"The energy bubble!" he wailed. "Break it! Quickly!"
She looked at M2 like he had lost his mind. But now he looked as if he were in agony.
"I stripped the black skin away by forming my energy bubble! Why would I want to… HUH!"
She saw the black material continuing to climb up M2's leg. Her bubble failed to remove the goo from him!
"It grows on energy, Peanut!" he cried through whatever was happening to him. "Look at the wall of your sphere!"
She looked hard at her bubble and saw a black shadow climbing up from the bottom, and she felt a drain running through her.
"It only takes a spot, honey, and it expands from there… UUUUUGH!" M2 looked as if he had just received a shock.
"Then… this is Mauvais too? I thought we just killed him?!"
M2 shook his head. "With its ability to cover and control many creatures, Mauvais' new form should be able to be anywhere at any time. It was going to use the Mew as a base of operations, that's all… AUUUUGH!"
Now PBM was nearly in a panic. She could see the material climbing up M2's legs, and now his Doorknob was smoking around his neck.
"M! What can I do?!" she pleaded.
"Burst the bubble!" he shouted. "Get to the surface! Quickly! QUICKLY!"
On the cliff overlooking the bay, on the beach over on the main island and out on the end of Dragon's Peak, the crowds watched for signs of their friends. At the altar site, Charm was busy with some of the mystic birds sweeping the area with her sword's sonic attack. Her Moltres and the other Moltres left flaming pools of black goo, much to everyone's chagrin as the smoldering puddles smelled terrible.
Mrs. Villeneuve had joined her daughter up on the Peak, finally managing to 'go-with-the-flow' of the situation she had found them in, especially after her long chat on her cell phone with her husband Mark. It was then she realized just how stale and stagnant their lives were now, and how what was happening before her was an adventure that she only dreamed of as a child – she was not about to let this get away!
She had seen all that had transpired during the battle. But, watching the black mass clobber the two strange cats over the cliff shocked her, and had left her Emirie crying in her lap. Sheba was also crying, seeing her new friend weeping - the domino crying effect. Now Chibi was whimpering, and Ziggy was having his paws full.
Over at the altar, Charm peered over the edge of the cliff at the waters below having cleared the vestiges of the slime away with her sword. "They've been down there for a long time," she grumbled.
"They can do that for as long as their energy holds out," the Pikachu told her. "Ah, I see our Muuma friend is back," he added pointing at the specter floating over the waves near where the two bodies had splashed down.
"Looks like someone else saw that too," North said, pointing over the shuttle that was hovering overhead. The side hatch was open, and the pink hair of BJP's stood out like a beacon in the dawn. She was pointing at the ghost. Out of the craft dashed the Butterfree!
"Wree weee!" Psyche squeaked. It then dropped down the face of the cliff and hugged the water, as it stealthily approached its target.
"Go! Go! Go! Go!" the Pikachu whispered to himself.
"Ha!" Slowking said, much to everyone's surprise. "This should be good!"
"Look!"
Charm was pointing down at the water near where the Muuma was floating. The dark blue was clearly turning white from under the surface.
"What's this?" the Muuma said to itself, then was drenched in a spray as an air bubble broke the surface of the water. It shook itself, only to be drenched again as PBM shot out of the surface.
"SUPERSONIC! QUICKLY!" she screamed. "I NEED A SUPERSONIC!"
"What are you blathering about?" the Muuma asked. She looked down at the water, as it parted in a circle in front of her. A pair of red blazing eyes looked at her.
"She's blathering about me, my dear Muuma," Mauvais said through M2's mouth.
"You got the MEWTWO!" Muuma squealed.
"Not just any MewTwo, Muuma… I got MY MewTwo! From MY home dimension!"
"WREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"
Psyche had shot up from behind a wave in the water and fired its supersonic, missing the Muuma, but striking Mauvais' shield wave. Being mostly sound waves, the shield failed to stop the shout of noise, and M2's head, shoulders and arms sprouted from the black goo.
"HUUUUHH!" he gasped, drawing in as much air as he could. His eyes were huge and bugged out, and he looked as if he feared for what he might do. He looked up at PBM, who was floating above him. He looked down at his legs and waist, which were still underwater, and still black. He quickly turned the Doorknob back on full, as his controlled hands had turned it off. He returned his look to the girl above him.
"Remember… I love you…"
He formed an energy ball around himself, and shot skywards, leaving the islands and the others far behind.
"What is he doing?" Muuma asked, watching the streak cross the early morning sky.
North's scanning rod only had a limited range, but from what he had read, he knew what was about to happen.
"He was under strict orders," Roy said beside him. "Under no circumstances was he to ever be captured or taken over by the Black Lugia."
The scientist nodded and sighed. He and Strom stepped to the edge of the cliff in the direction of the burning streak of light and saluted.
"What the…" Charm shouted in confusion. "What's he doing? Robert! TELL ME!"
His lip trembled. "He's… saving us the trouble…"
"Long range scanners report an energy buildup, Mr. Button," came a call up from the ladies on the scanning deck.
The Lif Sphare sat down with a thud in the Captain's Chair. Kinza glanced at him, then returned to the readouts and long range video of the MewTwo.
"Maintain documentation," the second in command said quietly.
"Altitude, ten miles… downrange two hundred miles… speed increasing… energy overload imminent…" S.A.M. calmly reported.
Fuji stood in awe at the monitor on the bridge. He looked at the strange round commander and the furry assistant beside him. Ai placed her hand on his shoulder, but he showed little notice.
"He's sacrificing himself?" Fuji asked in a whisper. "My creation is sacrificing himself?"
"He's ridding us of the last of Mauvais in this form," Button said grimly.
Kinza slammed his fist on the console. "He's joining his Mew!"
"T-minus ten seconds to overload… Altitude thirty miles… Downrange four hundred miles…"
"Thank you S.A.M. - just continue the recording… commentary to recorders only… I don't need to hear it now…"
Silence filled the bridge. It seemed to last for hours.
"Detonation occurred at forty-five seconds into flight," S.A.M. reported. "Altitude sixty-five miles, downrange six hundred fifty-eight miles. Subject was vaporized…"
Button closed his eyes and sighed. "Recorders off…"
Fuji sat down and shook his head in amazement. "He… did it…"
"Why did he do that?" PBM wailed. "Why, Robert… Why? The sonic wave should have removed Mauvais!"
North bent down on one knee and placed his hand on PBM's shoulder. "It wouldn't have worked… remember, you told me how it hurt him when the skin moved up his legs? Those infected with the Mauvaisian skin didn't feel any pain… I know I didn't when it tried on me… But it hurt M2, because Mauvais had found its perfect host - a creature from its own home dimension, Level 14."
"His signature!" PBM gasped. "I warned him about that before… Mauvais knew his energy signature!"
North nodded. "Yes, and the fact that his own DNA, even though it was a cloned DNA, was from the same dimension… it left a homing signal for Mauvais, or the Black Lugia, to hunt for. So once it had him, we could have hit him with a sonic burst from all sides, but we'd never get rid of it totally. He knew this… he had a standing order from the day he joined us, that if he were to be taken over by the Black Lugia, that he would have to be destroyed. That's why he did what he had to do."
PBM nodded her head, and looked at the floor of the starship she was now on. Days before, she and M2 had spent hours looking at the stars through the view ports they were sitting in. Now the view seemed void.
Forrestal was back in orbit, her main power restored and back on line. Her engineering crews were frantically repairing her damaged outer structures using the zero-gravity to their advantage.
There was a knock on the door. It then slid slowly aside. Captain Strom looked in on the pair. North nodded to him.
"Just thought you'd like to know, Exeter reports that the Mauvais threat that was due to happen in twenty-four hours has been adverted," he told them. "Mauvais is truly gone, at least in this form…"
"Well then," North said, stiffly lifting himself up from his crouched position, "that only leaves one more duty to perform. I guess I'll have to get it set up." He looked down on PBM. "Will you join us?"
PBM continued to look at the floor and nodded. "Soon," she said, staring at a seam in the deck plate.
"Take your time," North told her, rubbing her shoulder. "We'll be in the Captain's Quarters."
She nodded but never looked back. North and Strom left the observation port, and the heartbroken PBM behind.
She watched the planet turn below her as the sun started to emerge from its edge.
"Oh, M…" she whispered.
"Excuse me, but is this yours?"
Something gleamed in the new sunlight to her right. She glanced over. It was her flute! The very flute she had tried to teleport through Mauvais' shield when this all started, and had been turned into a silver pretzel! She followed it back to the hand that held it, and saw three familiar fingers.
"Hey bright eyes!" M2 said, smiling at her.
"Huuuhh!" Now it was her turn to draw in as much needed air as possible. She jumped up and stood back briefly.
"Are… are you real?" she stammered. "You're not an angel, or whatever Pikachu is, are you?"
M2 smiled and shook his head and for added effect, tapped it with the flute. "No… I'm real… though I do think I owe these ladies some credit for that," he said, nodding behind her. She looked back, and saw Puruu and Xuru. They nodded to her and then vanished.
"They… they saved you?"
"Orders of the Stratus League, and their bosses," he added, nodding to the vanished deities. "We've got a new mission while we're here on Level 1.1…"
PBM stepped up to M2, and placed her finger to his mouth, silencing him. He looked at the finger with a puzzled expression.
"Yephh?" he said through the gag.
"What you said," she started, "back in the water… what you said… did you mean it?"
M2 smiled behind the small furry finger of PBM's. He reached up and took the paw, placed the flute in it, then held it tight. "With all my heart," he said and then kissed her.
"Zounds," the Pikachu grunted as he woke up on a chair nearby. "Now I'm seeing things… ah well… g'night…"
Charm found this member of Forrestal's crew... different, to say the least. She had seen the one called Kinza, and the strange orb-creature Mr. Button. Both of them looked properly alien to her. But this one - Now this really did look like a fantasy. He looked like an upright fox, right down to his vulpine legs to his tiny little paws all covered in a ship's uniform. He was showing her the way to the Captain's Quarters. She had been requested to come, and to bring her katana.
"Mind the steps ma'am," the fox said. She shrugged, and followed him up. She though it a bit odd, as she thought she was already on the top deck of the ship. Then, she noticed that the door he was leading her to was on the roof of the stairwell. It slid open, and she saw a black ceiling… no, not a ceiling… those are stars!
"Miss Charm is here, Roy," the fox announced.
"Thank you Frean. Show her in."
Frean continued into the strange room. Charm peeked over the edge of the doorway in the floor. It looked as if she was coming to the surface of the ship's hull!
"M'lady?" she heard. She looked up, and saw North reaching down to guide her up.
"What IS this Robert?" she asked, seeing that she really WAS on Forrestal's hull, though there was a podium nearby with some strange book spread across it, which seemed out of place. Frean stepped up to it, pressed a button under the rostrum and it descended back into the ship. A door closed over the hole.
"Where the hell are we?" she asked. She felt she needed to get her footing, even though the surface seemed wide and flat – the lack of anything beyond the edge seemed to be causing her equilibrium to act a bit wonky.
North stood tall and looked about. "The Captain's Quarters on these old C-Type Starships were once observation platforms. When they're down below, they're a simple room. But when they're raised, they become this. A large open platform on the ship's upper hull. You can't see the force field walls right now, but they can be made opaque, when needed."
Charm looked around at the dark beauty of space all around her. She looked behind her and saw the planet - Unbelievable.
Strom smiled. He tapped his chest patch and its hidden com unit. "Mr. Tolefson, you may take us to the zone."
"Aye aye, sir…" responded his unit. "Setting course zero-seven point seven point one-seven-four-two-five… warp factor two."
"Engage," the Captain acknowledged and tapped the patch again.
"All stations, stand by for warp speed…" a ship's intercraft squawked. "Leaving orbit… warp speed now…"
The ship growled and vibrated as the old-styl engines churned and roared behind them. Charm watched the universe spin and swirl briefly. She then watched the stars burst into small streaks, red before her, blue behind and a glaring white as they passed by her. She stepped to the center of the room, the cosmos bursting before her. She held her katana before her and smiled. She swung it about and grinned.
"Fastest blade in the universe," North laughed. "Of course, first we have to find someone to believe that you can swing your blade 4 times the speed of light!"
She blinked at him. A broad grin covered her face. "Cool… 'shame M2 couldn't see this…"
"Been there… done that!" came a voice from the stairwell. A pair of MewTwo stepped up through the deck.
Charm stood with her mouth open and just gawked.
"Well now, I was wondering when you'd get here," Strom said with a grin, which drew a look from PBM. North shook his head as he stood next to Charm.
"Abaha… ain't he dead?" she asked.
"No one dies around here without permission," North kidded her. "You should know that by now." He clasped hand to paw with his friend. "And so should you," he added to the MewTwo.
"I was waiting for that vision of Doctor Joy and the white room in the Stratus," M2 told him, "but all I got was the courtyard and Xuru and Puruu reassembling me piecemeal."
North looked him over. "Are you sure they found everything?" he asked him, which got him a glare.
"You knew?" Peanut asked North.
North held his hands up in a sign of innocence. "No, I did not find out until I was told about it when we were heading here, earlier," the scientist said.
"And I only found out just before that," Strom smiled. PBM stuck her tongue out at the Captain. He returned the razz.
"So, why are we standing on the top of your ship, Captain?" Charm interrupted the fricatives.
"Approaching the Goddard/VonBraun Testing Range, Captain," a voice dropped in on Charm's question.
"Take us to sub-light, Mr. Tolefson, and bring us to the disposal site," Strom told his com unit.
Suddenly, the points of light that had been streaking by elongated and then retracted into normal looking stars, though they seemed much farther away now.
"What are we doing, Robert?" Charm asked with a touch of confusion. "Where are we?"
North pointed up at what looked like a stream of water in space. "We are on the back edge of what is called the Goddard/VonBraun Testing Range - or at least that's what these guys call it in their universe - its a huge tract of space without any obstacles, dangers or other anomalies. Its a vast void of nothing that allows them a place to tests out ships and equipment in peace and safety. But along the back edge of this range is an energy stream, which is what we are seeing there."
"A stream?" Charm asked as she watched the sparkling vortex flow.
North shrugged. "Well, not a stream of water… an energy stream formed by the solar winds created by a pair of trinary star groups."
"So, why are we here?" Charm asked again. North pointed over at the doorway. She saw Frean and Kinza walking up the stairs again, carrying a set of small orbs. Then, Mr. Button emerged, carrying the MasterBall.
"Mauvais!" she gasped. She nearly had forgotten the beast she had captured earlier - The first one that had caused them pain. She grinned, and held the katana up to her face. But then she found something else being handed to her.
"What's this?" she asked, looking at the strap-like device.
"This is a Life Support belt," North said, reaching around her to lock one around her waist. "It's kind of a space suit without the suit. It forms a force field around you, and allows you to breathe."
She watched a faint glow form around her. "So, why do we need this?"
North turned the one he was wearing on. "We're here to disperse Mauvais' PokéBall energy into that hot stream of solar wind… can't do that while inside a force field dome…"
"And we do this how?"
M2 picked up one of the small PokéBalls Frean and Kinza had brought up. "How about a game of baseball?" he grinned. North saw what he was doing, and stepped away from Charm. Before she could ask any further questions, M2 had pitched her a slider-away. She slashed her sword and struck the black topped PokéBall, which flashed as it severed in half. The energy it contained was attracted up towards the stream, where it quickly was swept away.
"Home run!" M2 smiled.
"And the crowd goes wild!" PBM added with her arms over her head while doing a victory jig.
Charm stood back and looked at the scientist perplexed. "Okay… why for how come?"
He smirked. "I split the energy from the one massive MasterBall that you captured Mauvais in into these smaller copies… if you were to try to slice the MasterBall fully loaded, you'd probably wreck the ship in the resulting detonation."
Charm scratched her head with the finger guards of the sword. "Yea, but why slice them in the first place?" Charm asked. "I mean, this will be fun, but why not just open the PokéBall and sent him away that way? Or just shoot the entire ball into the stream?"
"Good questions," North said, rubbing her head. "First, if we simply opened the balls, the creature would form before entering the stream. Slicing the ball prevents the ball's transmat from forming the critter once deposited. Now, as much as he's killed, destroyed and maimed, we're not like him, and will do this in a more humane way. As for slipping ball and all into the stream, two reasons why we can't - First, believe or not, the ball might survive the journey through the trinary stars. Exposing his energy will cook it. And second, it's against the rules of the Goddard/VonBraun Test Zone to dump anything but energy trash into the stream – no hard objects."
"Umm..." she paused, "but didn't you just say this wasn't your actual zone?"
"Dimensions, dimensions," Strom quipped. "We don't litter!"
Charm nodded. "Good enough… let's get slicing!"
Kinza grinned. "Batter up!" He walked behind her to assume the position of catcher, but then got a look from Charm for his actions.
"Do you really think I'm gonna miss?" she asked him. He shrugged and trundled back to the ball rack.
Twenty small PokéBalls up, forty halves floating about later. Charm had fulfilled her pledge to destroy the Mauvais she had caught. It was over - Finally over.
They gathered the severed pieces of PokéBall and placed them inside the empty MasterBall. Then Captain Strom closed it and tossed it off the port side of his ship away from the stream.
"Uh, what was that about not littering?" Charm harped.
Roy smirked at her. "Mr. Tolefson," he said into his com unit. "Target the sphere off to port, please."
There was a brief moment of clatter over the unit. "Bank 7A has a lock, Captain," he reported.
Strom looked over at the small black shirted girl and nodded.
"Fire!" she called out.
A red beam of energy struck the MasterBall. It glowed briefly and then vaporized.
Strom nodded. "Nicely done," he told Charm. "Mr. Tolefson, take us back, please. Warp Two."
"A mission?" North asked.
M2 nodded, sipping on his drink. "I think you might find this interesting."
Puruu appeared before the gathered group on the observation deck. She bowed to Strom, who nodded to her. "When Angel Myamoto sacrificed herself in the defense of her demon half, after that same demon recanted her involvement with the entity known as Mauvais, my counterpart, Xuru and myself, gathered the remaining energies that was once the angel and demon Myamoto. After conferring with our respective leaderships, it was decided that a re-merging should be attempted…"
"WHAT?!" North barked. "Roy, you didn't register any nuclear explosions on the planet lately, have you?"
"Only mine," M2 smiled.
Peanut looked at the scientist with confusion, while ignoring her mate's dark humor. "Why?" she asked. "Isn't that what needs to be done?"
North shook his head. "There are reasons why a duplicate can't be made in a transmat then merged together. You wind up with two-hundred percent of something, which is pretty much impossible. You slammed two bodies of energy together, and expected them to simply coexists?"
"They were once a single body, Robert," Puruu told him.
"Yes, but since then, they individually gained energy levels that matched the levels that they had when they were one single body! Putting them together would have doubled the energy mass! You'll wind up with a super spirit!"
Puruu smiled. "Not a spirit," she told them.
North looked over his glasses at the Goddess. "Oh no… Not again…"
Peanut was now getting a bit frustrated. "Not again what?" she demanded.
Puruu bowed towards her. "The excess energy was used to form a new vessel for the soul. Myamoto lives."
Peanut slammed her fist on the table. "EX – PLAIN!" she yelled.
North drew in a breath. "Okay, you asked for it," he told her. "The two energies that made up Angel Myamoto and Demon Myamoto were fused together to form a single soul again, in a reversal of what your former self did."
Peanut winced. "So what I did… the Mew Child did was reversed – Myamoto is whole again?"
North sat back. "Oh, not just whole, overflowing! You see, after they were split, the two halves existed long enough to gain energy to fill that which they had lost in the division. So, by putting them back together like this, they would wind up with much too much residual energy."
"Well a good chunk was lost in battle and with Angel Mya's sacrifice," M2 noted.
North held up his hand in the sign of a pinch. "A smidgen. Remember, we're talking two ladies with the power of deities out there. Now granted, using their residual energies to form a new vessel would be necessary to hold the soul…"
"Excuse me, what?" Charm asked. "Her soul? What sort of vessel is this?"
North tapped her hand. "This is your vessel. It contains your soul."
She gave him a growl. "If you mean her body, why not just say that?" The look she got back from him meant he knew what he was talking about.
"Trust me – there have been wars over what these vessels contain," he told her grimly. "They weren't pretty. Okay, so you've slammed Myamotos together, made a new body for her as well… I can't imagine what sort of powers that's going to give her."
Peanut blinked. "Powers?" she asked.
North pointed at the ceiling. "On Level Prime, Jesse and James Kojiro were spirits who were given their bodies back. They retain many of their spirit energies… and they were just ghosts. Can you imagine what will happen now that an Angel and a Demon have been merged together?"
"But they really weren't angels and demons," Peanut tried to figure out. "You even pointed that out to them," she added directing her statement towards the Captain.
"That is true, but they still carried their strengths, if not a bit more," he pointed out. "Remember just how much power the Demon one had when she allowed Mauvais to actually merge with the Prime Mew rather than just coat it. That took some serious strength."
North crossed his arms and snorted. "Okay, we have Myamoto back again…"
"Almost back again," Puruu corrected him.
"Ea?" he asked. "Did I miss something?
"We have to find her," M2 smiled.
"Great…" North said, looking at Charm, who's Mew was sitting excitedly on her lap - Her Myamoto alive? Oooh, goodie! North shook his head. "Any ideas on just where we might find her?"
Puruu nodded. "The energy was directed to where she had been split before," she stated.
PBM gasped. "The ice cliff? You dropped her back down the ice cliff?"
Puruu bowed. "It is where the energy went. We have little control over that."
M2 sat forwards in his seat. "It gets better… We think that the Muumas will be after her as well…"
North rubbed his hand across his face and gave M2 a perplexed look. "Pray tell, why?" he asked.
"Retribution," Puruu answered. "They took orders from Myamoto, but got their extra powers from Mauvais. With their source of extra powers gone, they'll be angry."
North shook his head. "Ah well, so much for a much needed rest… who wishes to search the Andes for our Myamoto?"
The Mew looked up at Charm, her eyes wide and pleading.
"Well I'm in," PBM announced flatly.
Charm sighed as she looked down at her Mew. "I guess…"
"MYU!" the little cat like Pokémon squealed, hugging her trainer best she could.
"But really… I hate the Andes… they're mountains… mountains are cold," Charm muttered. "And I thought I might get rest…" She sighed and slumped in her seat. Damn it!
The Mess Hall was noisy at this time of day. Fuji shook his head. He was sitting in the corner watching an incarnation of his daughter laughing it up with an incarnation of his creation a few tables away. It was a bit much to get his head around. He looked at the PADD unit he had been scouring information from again. The basic dossier file on her played out over and over again. Apparently, on the level Lt. Ayako Fujisan was from, her father had been the one to die in the car accident and not her… or at least that is what it seemed to say on this confangled device! But it also said that she had an Uncle – her father's twin brother.
"Twin brother my ass!" he harped as he read the device. "My brother was a mechanic in Kobe. And what is this bio-mechanical junk it talks about?" He had found a side file that had described Ai's uncle as being some Admiral in this fleet she served in. What bunk!
"Problems Doctor?" he heard. He looked up to see Sabrina standing in front of him holding her lunch tray. He fumbled with the PADD.
"Oh! Oh, Miss Natsumi! I didn't hear you," he exclaimed. He noticed she was looking at the device in his hands.
"Trying to find out more about your dimensional daughter?" she asked. She sat down across from him with calm eyes.
"Yes, I mean NO… I mean… what do you mean 'dimensional daughter'?" He drew in a breath of air to calm himself. He looked back at the green-haired woman to find her sipping on her soda.
"A 'dimensional sibling' is what these folks call a person that is known personally to them from a different level," she told him. "It must be difficult seeing her this way. You last saw Ai when she was only a child."
"When last I saw her, she was less than that…" he mumbled. He looked back over at the Lieutenant. "Seeing her like this though…" he sighed. "She would have been a beautiful lady. She looks so much like her mother…" He drew silent again.
Sabrina reached over and put her hand on his. "I know it's painful," she told him. He lowered his head and nodded.
"I drove her away too," he moaned. "All those important in my life, either left me because of my self-centered passion, or my failure as a scientist." He looked at the PADD again. "At least someone was successful in bringing her up." He showed it to the Psychic Trainer.
"A twin brother, ea?" she noted. "I never knew you had a brother…"
He shrugged. "He died a long time ago when the pickup he was working on fell on him. Maybe that's what was needed. If he had survived, maybe things would have turned out differently." He looked up and saw Sabrina looking hard at the data. "Is something wrong?" he asked.
"Umm, Doctor, how are you getting this information?" she asked him. "It seems a bit more than the normal 'basic' data available to most."
He looked at her in puzzlement. "I just asked," he told her. "This S.A.M. thing they have here asked for my authorization – I told it I didn't have any that I knew of – it then said something about 'Voice Print Verified' and started spewing forth! Is there any problems with that?"
She tapped a few windows on its screen and sat back. "Nothing that I can see, but it looks like you hit pay dirt," she suggested to him. "It seems odd that it would ask for a voice print, seeing that you're not from this ship's dimensional level. I wonder if you're using someone else's pass code?"
He snatched back the PADD. "I don't care!" he squawked. "It's my Ai I'm looking into… I want to know what she could have become." He clutched it to his chest.
Sabrina leaned towards him. "Don't you teach that obsessions are not always healthy?" she reminded him of the service he provided back at his center up on Level Prime.
He sighed and placed the PADD on the table between them. "I'm a case study, aren't I?" he grumbled to himself. He swiped his finger across the screen and made it spin to a few pictures it held on file. A young Ai appeared held by her father, or at least it looked like him.
"It's bizarre," he said. "I have a picture very much like this one on my kitchen wall…"
"Oh yes," Sabrina exclaimed. "I remember that one… but this one seems a little different."
He harrumphed. "That's because that isn't me… I mean the man who was supposed to be me. That's my twin!"
Sabrina looked closely at the image. "She certainly seems happy with him," she noted.
"Why not?" Fuji stated. "She had a two-for-one deal! Two daddies. Then one died… and that's where it gets strange with her records."
"Strange?" she asked looking at the PADD. "In what way?"
"PIFF!" he exclaimed, in such a way that many nearby their table looked over at the old man. Fortunately, the noise was loud enough in the hall that Ai did not hear his outburst. "She vanishes for almost ten years," he continued. "The only record is some sort of accident that happened around the time her father died. There aren't any pictures, medical records – nothing until she turns sixteen years old."
Sabrina sat back. "Well, seeing that it was the twin brother in that picture, maybe the shot was taken by her father," she theorized. "Without him about, no pictures might have been taken all that time… at least family shots."
Fuji raised a finger and tapped his nose. "I thought of that," he winked. "To be where she is now, she would have entered the academy that serves this ship at age fourteen."
Sabrina cocked her head. "So young?" she asked.
Fuji shrugged. "She's my daughter – maybe she was a quick learner and skipped a few grades. It seems though it's not uncommon in this crew."
Sabrina nodded. "She's the Chief Engineer's Mate – you've got to have a good head on your shoulders to be that at her age." She saw Fuji rub the back of his neck.
"Yea, that's strange too," he commented. "How did she become a Grease Mankey? It doesn't make sense. Both her father and his brother are these Bio-Mechanical Engineers, which is odd in their own rights. Why was I a Bio-Mech when I specialize in DNA and cloning?"
Sabrina leaned close to him. "They don't have Pokémon," she pointed out.
"What's that got to do with anything?" he asked with a bit of anger.
She gave him a pseudo-sad look. "No Team Rocket for one… no need to create a MewTwo for a second… and no one said that they'd follow exactly what you and your other selves in the PokéWorlds would in theirs."
"Point noted," he told her. "But it still doesn't explain that the first record that does show up is her transfer from this Bio-Engineering course she was in to straight Mechanical Engineering one."
Sabrina sat back again. "Really," she expounded. "Now that is mysterious! Humm… By the way Doctor, what did your father do for a living?"
He blinked at her. "Umm… he was a dentist," he said. Then it dawned on him what she was trying to say. "Ah… you think that she started out in Bio-Mechanical Engineering and switched when she finally told someone that she didn't want to be one…"
Sabrina coyly looked at him and smiled. "Kind of like what you did?" she asked.
Fuji slumped in his chair and made a raspberry with his lips. "I hated that drill… just the sound of it made me wince… UUUUH!" He noticed the two people at the table beside them flinch as well. "Yea, right?" he asked them. He sighed and looked over at Ai and his MewTwo.
"Wondrous," he whispered.
White Lugia had insisted BJP accompany them back to Forrestal for the final destruction of the Black Lugia. She had marveled at the ship and at those aboard her. At one point she had almost been injured in an incident of calling a crew member 'a sweet little puppy'. She also spent a day going from compartment to compartment where her possessed self had damaged the ship apologizing to those working there for making them do repairs.
"Would you have believed all this stuff, Psyche?" she asked her psychotic Butterfree, who was seated on her head.
"Wreek," it answered in a bored tone.
"Oh right, it's awesome!" she exclaimed. "I would never have dreamed something like this existed!"
"You would never have dreamed a lot of things, little one," Lugia rumbled from his healing tank. She grinned.
"You mean like helping to avert global disaster?" she asked. "Again?"
"That would be a start," the seabird agreed with a chortle, smiling at his small friend. He looked out the open hatch at the planet below.
"So many worlds, yet so few of my kind left," he murmured.
How she had found her way aboard a starship was anyone's guess. While the cleanup operations were underway in the area of the Orange Isles, Forrestal was hosting many of the displaced residents, and those who just so happen to be there at the time. This included Emirie, her mother and Ziggy and his brood. The two parents sat bewildered by the fact that they had started out on dry land, and were now in orbit – even having watched the ship leave the planet briefly and then return.
"Mommy, me'n Sheba 'n Chibi wanna go play in the hall!" Emirie pleaded. "Puh-leeeeez?"
Mrs. Villeneuve sighed. "Hon, you don't want to bother the nice officers – again…"
"Aw, purizu Mrs. Emirie's mom?" Sheba asked with huge golden eyes. "We'll be real good!"
"Yeah! Let us go an' pway, missus Emirie's mom! PWEEEEEZE?" Chibi gave her best toothy grin to her.
"My! Th-those look sharp!" she yiped.
Ziggy now sighed. "Baby teeth – they always are," he noted in a low rumble.
"Really?" she asked. "What was teething like?"
Ziggy rolled his eyes. "Murder…" was all he said.
Mrs. Villeneuve could only groan as her daughter and the two little Neko girls begged.
"Well, alright, but DON'T bother any of the officers, and don't get in their way!" She doubted they heard her say any of this, as they were gone so quickly.
"Kids today…"
She looked up at the huge white Persian-man seated beside her. She held her hand up to him.
"Marcy," she told him.
"Ziggy," he replied shaking the offered hand.
Melody sat on the end of the dock, looking out to sea. Above her, she could see the sights of small ships as they made set patterns across the sky, their attention locked onto the waters below them as they continued their relentless search for any remaining pockets of Mauvais goo. She watched as one broke from the set flight pattern and dove for the surface. Once there, she saw it hover, then zap the surface with some beam. It then returned to the group. She had watched this strangeness for a day now, and it just made her mind ask more questions. Sigh…
She looked over at Dragon's Peak, the southern point to the entrance to Shimouti Harbor. She was still there - Lady Lugia, sitting, staring, watching the sky just as Melody had been, but for some very different reasons. She had been there for days now, because he was up there.
Melody looked at the ocarina in her hands. She played some snippet of the Festival Song and then just stared at the instrument. She glanced over at the point again. To her surprise, even at that range, Lady had noticed the music and was looking at her. She smiled, and continued to play the song.
"Where is that music coming from?" White Lugia asked.
The haunting melodic song was drifting into the landing bay, which was once again Lugia's quarters aboard the starship. He had a better view this time, no longer being stuck to using the tank they had provided and repaired for his healing, though it was still nice to be able to sleep in. The bay door was open to let the larger repair ships in and out, so he had probably the best view of the planet below, what with that one hundred yard wide window there.
BJP looked around. The rather large size of the bay was making the music bounce around a bit. But she knew it had to be coming from the one direction it could only be coming from, the main doorway out into the ship. She peeked out and heard it clearly coming from the observation port across from the hanger. The door was open and she sneaked a look in. She found M2 sitting on the ground with PBM sitting in front of him. She was playing her flute. He was just watching her, a content expression on his face. BJP quickly stepped away and back into the hanger, wishing not to break the personal moment there.
"You're giggling," Lugia noted with a smirk. "Is something up?"
"Hee hee… oh, nothing," BJ laughed. "It's just PBM playing her flute."
Lugia looked over at the doorway and listened to the sound of the instrument. "She plays quite well…"
BJP watched Lugia's expression as he looked out the doorway. "It's a shame that you can't really see the rest of the ship."
The Water God laughed. "Well, they really didn't design her to fit a creature as big as myself. I've been told that there are only four locations on board large enough for me… these two landing bays, the Captain's Quarters, and the bridge. Still, if I need to return to my dimensional level, this is the only way to travel."
BJ cocked her head at him. "Yes, but what about her?"
Lugia looked down on the human. "Her?"
"Oh come now!" BJ said, half mocking the bird and tossing an arm towards the open hanger door. "Ma'am Lugia! She looked awful dejected when you said you had to leave."
"Ahumph… er… well," he coughed, "we both have our own respective worlds to protect…"
"What's the matter?" she dug into the bird and poking him in the belly. "Afraid of the pitter patter of little Lugian feet?"
"Jiggly!" he rumbled. BJP laughed. He snorted and shook his head.
"Speaking of absurd… where is that nut of a Butterfree of yours?" he asked, looking about.
The music suddenly stopped. As Lugia and BJP watched, PBM walked into the bay with a blue orb floating over her head, and Psyche spinning about in it.
"I found him sitting on M2's head," she said, using her flute as a rod to carry him.
"Wreeeek!"
"So, Forrestal will be departing in the morning," North commented as he and Captain Strom walked down a corridor. "Hummm… I'd had rather wish to take on this mission with your backup."
Strom nodded. "We're due in port at o' nine-hundred tomorrow morning for our next mission debriefing."
North looked about the hallway. "I'm surprised, Roy… with a ship like this, and all she can do, locking into a ridged schedule like that seems odd."
Strom laughed. "Well, yes… she can get us there at any time we'd like… but I don't want to have to answer all those questions about why we received temporal messages asking where we are. Besides, we've been off our own time-lines for almost two years now… It's time to get back on track."
North shook his head in agreement. He had read about the way these ships could jump time-lines. Other than the fact that jumping the time-lines allowed you to visit any time, and in this particular case, any dimension of reality possible to visit via the Trans-Dimensional Barrier Zone, the major benefit to this maneuver was the lack of any aging, a virtual fountain of youth if you stayed off your given time-line. The trouble was, if you stayed off long enough in one time zone, you would slowly start to loose your mind. Two years was a normal limit given, though three to four years had been done. Strom had never said he would never push the envelope from time to time.
"Engineering to Captain… Engineering to Captain…" the intercraft called out.
Strom pressed a com unit's switch on the wall. "Station 24-B - Strom here."
"Umm… Captain… it's about some of our visitors…" the chief engineer said.
Mrs. Villeneuve and Ziggy stood side by side peering through a massive window that looked across a HUGE and LONG room. An engineer said something about "The Egg Beaters," and they were not far from the truth. Above the window were a pair of wide shafts that ran out into the room and out the far end. Midway were four tubular extensions that jutted out of each shaft then reentered further along, giving the nickname an appropriate image. The starboard side unit spun clockwise, while the port side one spun counter-clockwise, intertwining as they rotated. Beyond them was the backside of Forrestal's two large thrust chambers of her main drives.
"Okay, I'll ask," Mrs. Villeneuve stated. "Why?"
The chief engineer laughed. "Speed," Marshall bluntly said. "Without those beasties spinning out there, we'd only have thrust, but no speed. Their rotation and reaction to one another, allows our engines to gather tachyons, which excites them, and thus gives us the capability to increase our speed in ratio with our thrust, thus kicking us to warp speeds. Without them, we'd be lucky to get to the speed of light."
She blinked at him. "I don't care, just get my child out of there!"
"Her mother is going to yank my fur out for this!" Ziggy mumbled just as Strom and North entered the room. They looked out of the booth and shook their heads.
A catwalk with a curved glass-like roof stretched out beyond the control booth into the Beater room, running below center of the rotating machinery. Used for maintenance and guided tours, the catwalk was off limits when the engines were at warp.
Emirie, Sheba and Chibi were out in the middle of the catwalk, playing what looked like Hop Scotch. All of their heads of hair were standing on end. They seem quite happy about this, as they were giggling and having fun, especially flattening it all down, only to have it all poof back up. In addition, they found as they got closer to the beaters, their mops would sway back and forth to whichever side was swinging closer to them at the time.
"It's a good thing that we didn't go to warp…" whispered Strom to North.
"Umm… I could imagine…" the scientist said. "They'd be cooked like hot dogs in a microwave oven!"
Mrs. Villeneuve overheard North. "WHAT?! I WANT MY DAUGHTER OUT OF THERE NOW!"
"Now now… they're quite safe," the engineer said in his gruff voice. "The radiation is at zero. They're only within the static discharge area of the catwalk."
She calmly stepped up to the grubby man. "Mr. Engineer, sir… I know that you know what you're talking about, and I'm glad… but that's MY DAUGHTER out there!" She grabbed his shirt by the collar and shook him screaming, "GET HER OUT NOW!"
Strom held his hands up to deflect the yell. "Just how did they get out there Marshall?"
He sheepishly looked at his Captain. "I heard them say something about 'taking the nickel tour?'"
"HUH!" Mrs. Villeneuve yelled at the ceiling and tossed the man back. "Her FATHER is always saying that! I'm gonna KILL Mark when I see him next!"
"Oh boy," Ziggy grumbled. He knew that he would be in for it too when he got home as well, if the Mrs. ever heard about this, and for sure, she would.
"So, what are we waiting for?" the Captain asked. His engineer handed him a door handle.
"You busted off the door handle?" North said, looking at the heavy looking chunk of metal.
"Came off in my hands," Marshall grumbled. "Amazing… one of two doors on this ship that uses handles, and this one breaks." He looked back at the scientist. "You wouldn't have one of those sonic screwdrivers on you, would you?"
North started rummaging through his pockets. "Haven't seen that guy in a while…" he mumbled as he dug.
Out on the catwalk, PBM's Pikachu appeared, and instantly turned into a yellow ball of fluff.
"Aww… this is gonna take a week to get out!" he griped.
"Ketchup!" Emirie said from under her static 'fro.
He blinked from behind his puffy face at her. "What did you call me?" he asked.
"Ketchup! You like ketchup, right?" Sheba asked.
"Ketchup! Ketchup!" Chibi exclaimed.
"You look funny, Ketchup!" Emirie added.
The Pikachu looked less than thrilled by the sudden name he had acquired from out of nowhere it seemed. "Look, that's nice…"
"What are you doing here, Ketchup?"
"That's what I was about…"
"Are you here to play with us?"
"No, I'm here…"
"Why are you all puffed out like that, Ketchup?"
"Are you cold?"
"Ketchup! Ketchup! Wee hee hee hee!"
"What? No, I'm not co…
"Look at our hair, Ketchup! Isn't this wild?"
"Very chic… listen…"
"I wonder if Mommy will…"
"GIRLS!" the Pikachu shouted.
As Marshall worked on the door it slowly opened, and Emirie's face looked around it. Fortunately, the door handle on the other side was still attached.
"I'm sowee Mommy… I dared Sheba an' Chibi out there… I didn't mean to…" Any answer was covered by the hug she received from her mother.
"Well, it is about time we sent you folks home," Strom said. "The danger's past, and we must be moving on."
"And we have a mission to ready," North added. "I think I'll set up base camp on Shimouti…"
"Fine… we'll loan you a shuttle," Strom said as they left the room. Emirie, Sheba and Chibi smiled as they continued to get hugs from their parents. Few saw the Pikachu leave the catwalk like an overstuffed puffball.
"Sigh…" he said as he bounced around.
Psyche hid his face behind a wing. He was about to get yet another scolding from his mistress!
"Sorry about that," BJ sweat-dropped and glared at her Pokémon.
"It's okay," she heard another voice say. "I'm sort of use to it for some odd reason." BJP turned to see the male MewTwo.
"I'll probably regret this but can you take Psyche out of the orb?" BJ asked Peanut.
"Wreek!"
"Quite you," she snapped at it.
"Sure," PBM said and released the Pokémon. The Butterfree flew out and quickly landed on BJP's head, forgetting this was the person who was scolding him earlier.
"You play beautifully," BJP remarked. "I didn't know Pokémon could play instruments."
"Thank you," the female MewTwo said. "I enjoy music. Lot's of Pokémon do. Like your Butterfree."
"Psyche? I think it just likes to eat," BJP laughed.
"You should try to play sometime," PBM remarked while pressing the flute buttons.
"No, I couldn't. I've tried but I just don't have the ability. I can sing though. I use to work at the Celadon City Casino before I was promoted. I would sing there for entertainment from time to time." BJP then looked up at Lugia and remembered how well he had sung when they were searching for this world's Lugia. PBM noticed her expression.
"Is he still sad about leaving Lady Lugia," she whispered to BJ.
"I think so," she whispered back. "Now if there was only something we could do about that. Hmm, I'll put my devious mind to work on it. Maybe I can think of something."
"You mean without causing global disaster?" PBM asked with a smirk.
BJP gave her a sly smile.
"Hopefully," she commented back.
"Wreek?"
Peanut looked up at the Butterfree on BJ's head. He was looking behind her at something. Then its mistress slapped her hand over her mouth in an uncontrolled attempt to stifle a laugh.
"What is that?" Lugia asked. "I thought the cleaning system on this ship prevented dust-balls from forming!"
"Oh for the love of…" M2 laughed and pinched his eyes.
"What?" Peanut asked. M2 pointed behind her.
"HUH!" she exclaimed as she saw what had just rolled into the bay.
"Will someone PLEASE turn off all these air blowers?" Ketchup complained as he bounced off the bulkhead. His overly static charged fur was making him susceptible to any breeze within the ship.
"PIKACHU!" she exclaimed. "Wha… what happened to you?"
He turned and glared at her. "I earned a name today," he grumbled. He then continued on towards the observation port. "Geeze! Kids today! AAGH! AIR CURTAIN!"
BJ shook her head. "I still can't get my head around the idea of a talking Pikachu," she commented. "And flying… how does he do that?"
Peanut and M2 looked at one another. "Umm… that's a story in itself," M2 told her.
"And all the Pokémon here talk!" BJ added. "It's neat!"
"Well, not all of them," Lugia advised her. "We three do, at least," he nodded his head at PBM and M2.
"Not all the Pokémon talk!" the Butterfree on her head squawked to her surprise. "See, not me! -eek?" Psyche covered its mouth with its tiny hands and looked about.
"Uhh… how did… WOW! Psyche can talk now too!" she exclaimed plucking it from her hair. "COOL! Now I'll actually know what its saying!"
"Doughnut…" it burped.
"…not that I'll understand it," she added.
"Should we tell her why?" Peanut asked M2.
"Chocky Marshmallow Ice Cream!" Psyche demanded.
"No," M2 replied.
The night finally calmed. The morning was going to be busy, so those who were preparing to depart the ship headed for an evening's rest.
The room was dark. M2 looked around himself. It was cold. It felt wet. It did not feel like the observation port he and Peanut had retired to. He grumbled to himself and lifted off the floor.
"Too late, my friend…"
M2 spun about searching for the voice. He knew it and it infuriated him!
"SHOW YOURSELF!" he yelled.
"Then I suggest you look in a mirror," the voice responded with a cackle.
M2 felt a shot of fear run up his spine. He slowly rotated in mid air, seeing a large reflective surface come about. A pair of red eyes greeted him as he saw his image. They dimmed and returned to his own eyes. Then he looked at his lower body in the reflection. His legs were black, as was his tail. When he looked at himself though, he only saw the normal color of his fur and skin.
"What is this?" he said to himself.
"Did you really think you were rid of me?" the voice returned.
"Mauvais! You're DEAD! I am FREE of you! I blew you up when we self destructed!" M2 demanded.
"You're here now, aren't you?"
M2 snarled. "The goddess and demon brought me back, NOT YOU! BE GONE!"
"AH HAH HAH HAH HAH! You are foolish, MewTwo of Level 14! Do you think I'm THAT easily vanquished? When we touched, we became ONE!"
"NO!" M2 shouted, looking at his reflection again. "NO! That's IMPOSSIBLE!"
"Is it? See for yourself then!"
The mirror vanished, leaving M2 in the pitch black room again. Slowly, the light came up over his head. He watched a dark blue dawn light the sky above him. He sighed a breathe of relief as he could see the peaceful illumination greeting him. He saw his breathe fog in the cool air, and he closed his eyes. He inhaled the fresh morning and looked down below himself.
The vision shook him. He felt as if a lightning bolt had just shot through his body. Below him, his friends, all those he cared for, lay strewn in a massacre. The burning hull of what was left of Forrestal smoldered nearby, beached against a blood red shore with the bodies of crew members floating in the surf. The horror struck him with fear.
"Peanut… PEANUT!" he shouted, diving down to the carnage below.
He floated over the bodies. North, Charm, even Giovanni, laid this way and that. Lugia was nearby with the Lady Lugia - they seemed to have died together. He saw a flash of pink and saw BJP lying across the back of the male Lugia. This was horrible!
"M!"
M2 turned about. He saw a paw reach up from under a heap of bodies. The large Human-Persian named Ziggy was on top with a hole burned in his back. M2 removed him to find the forms of Emirie, Sheba and Chibi underneath him. Below them, he found…
"PEANUT!"
He grasped at her, pulling her up out of the sand, cradling her shattered body in his arms.
"Peanut," he wept. "Peanut, who did this? Who did this?"
"M," she gagged. "Why M?"
He sat up and looked down in horror as he watched her. She was staring right at him, but the light dimmed from her eyes, and the sound of her accusation rung in his soul.
"Yes, M2, why did you do this?"
"Do what?" he yelled at the voice. "I am not responsible for THIS!"
"Oh, yes you are," it said as the reflection returned. M2 saw himself cradling PBM in his arms of black Mauvaisian goo.
"NO!" he shouted.
"There he is!"
He turned about. There, coming out of the surf was Mr. Button and some of the crew of Forrestal, all bearing weapons.
"Aim carefully, men!" the Commander ordered. "Make him pay for what he's done to us!"
M2 stared at what he was seeing and shook his head. "No! This is wrong! YOU'RE WRONG!"
As the phasers fired, M2 stood up, and formed a bubble about himself. He deflected most of the beams, but two shattered his field, and sent him back in a heap.
"We've got him now! Finish him off!" Mr. Button demanded.
"YOU!" M2 said. He stood up, eyes glaring red and covered in the skin of Mauvais. He flung his arms wide and then up. The ship behind the offending crewmen erupted in a massive explosion.
"THIS - IS - NOT - REAL!" he shouted.
"Are you sure?" a voice asked.
That was North! But he had seen his dead body on the beach… How?
"Remember what I said?" the cadaver asked. "When an idea is created, the dimensions create a reality. Somewhere, you're doing this! You killed us!"
"NO!" shouted the MewTwo in pain as he covered his face in his palms. "NO! Forrestal can not be duplicated! And Mr. Button can't stand the water! He dissolves in water! THIS IS NOT REAL!"
M2 looked about. Sweat was pouring off his brow. The stars greeted him, as did the sleeping form of PBM in his lap. The observation port was dark, quiet, and still quite there. He breathed in a huge sigh. What an amazing nightmare! What was all that about?
"It was a warning, my friend MewTwo of Level 14…"
He looked up startled. The Goddess Puruu was there. M2 blinked at her.
"Mauvais?"
The Goddess nodded. "Not only is it possible for it to still be here, it is quite probable."
M2 looked down at the sleeping form in his lap. "How?"
She bowed slightly and drew in a breath. "Mauvais was quite large in this final form. It would take a transmat to remove him totally, and only after scanning the planet TO THE CORE…"
"…Because the slightest spot of the goo is all that is needed…" he finished for the deity. "Damn… Does Captain Strom know this?" She nodded.
"Before they leave, Forrestal is planning to set up a planetary satellite system to search for and remove any vestige of the Mauvais form. But scanners are only so effective…"
M2 stroked the fur on PBM's sleeping head. "Is… is it still in me?" He looked up and saw the Goddess looking away from him. "It is, isn't it?"
Puruu looked at M2, a tear running down her cheek.
"Will it ever surface?"
Puruu looked down. "Unlike before, where Mauvais grew across your body, this version is entrenched within yourself. It depends on the strength of the individual to keep it under control."
M2 smiled. "Huh… then it did evolve again…"
"It seems so, yes," she agreed, "but this time, in a much weaker state. You are much stronger than it is. You should be able to fight it."
M2 looked up at her. "Will I? I just felt the initial twinge of the creature within me. Until I can say that Mauvais is completely gone, I am a hazard to everyone around me."
"Yes," the Goddess said. "Yes you are…"
M2 did not need to have her agree with him so quickly. He looked at PBM's head below his. He kissed her forehead and then gently moved her to the nearby observation bench with a psychic lift. He turned and saw he was alone. Puruu had left. He looked down and sighed.
"So, you want to come with us, ea?"
North had been requested to come to the landing bay that housed Lugia. BJP had greeted him with the most interesting look on her face.
"Well, yes I do, but mostly, HE does," she said, pointing back at the sleeping Legendary Bird behind her.
North looked over at him. "He does?" he asked the girl.
"He just doesn't know it yet," she grinned.
North smiled at her. "My, you're a devilish one, ain't ya?" he said, as he gestured her to follow him. They entered a control booth off to one side of the bay. The board that BJP saw was intricate and confusing, but North seemed to know what each button and slider did.
"Better get clearance before I do this…" he mumbled to himself. "North to Strom…"
There was a moment of silence. Then the com replied with a drowsy, "Captain's Quarters - Strom here… what's up Rob?"
"Captain, request permission to use the cargo transmat," North asked with a wink to the pink haired lady. BJP looked shocked at the controls before her. Oooh!
"The cargo transmat?" Strom asked over the com. "What are you transmatting?"
North thought for a moment of an appropriate answer. "One large love-sick bird."
Silence greeted them again. Then they heard laughter. "Is JP there?"
"Yes?" North said, looking at the blushing pink haired lady. For some reason, Roy was the only person to call her that.
"Thought so…" Strom said. "She asked me about Lugia's moodiness earlier… Okay, go ahead… and JP…"
"Y-yes?" she asked.
"I would be honored if you'd join me at the Captain's Table for breakfast?"
She looked at North in a slight shock. The scientist smiled at her and nodded.
"Err… well, of course I will… Thank you…"
"Good… see you there… good night…"
"What's going on in here?" Charm asked, rubbing her eyes as she entered the booth and saw North busy at the controls.
"Bridge," North said. "Requesting verification of clearance by the Captain for Cargo Transmat use… standing by…"
"Clearance granted," a reply came.
North grinned as he tapped on the controls and drew a slider down. "Target acquired - landing site located… bombs away!"
Melody lay beside Lady, snoozing against her thigh. The two of them had spent the entire evening talking about the events of the last few days. They both were tired and decided to sack out on Dragon's Peak. The next day, Lady was planning to return to the sea - waiting for His return would probably be futile.
They both woke up with a start. A shimmer of light had started to glow nearby. It was followed by an echoing sound that was distorted and drawn out, as if someone was yelling down a well.
"…is hapPENING TO ME?!" roared over the cliff.
"What?" Lady asked, blinking awake.
"Look at that!" Melody said, watching the lights play off the water and trees.
"What? M'lady!" White Lugia said with a startled expression on his face as he spun about on the edge of the cliff. "How… How did I get… HERE? BJP! BJP!"
Lady looked at the male Lugia in shock. She then turned away. "Oh, I'm not good enough for you, huh?"
"Huh?" Lugia said dumbfounded. He then looked down. Lady and Melody could feel the ground throb and stared over at him.
He was laughing – hard. He looked up into the sky. "Ah BJP, you SCAMP! HA HA HA HA HA HA!"
Melody could not help but snicker as well, seeing how she knew how Lady felt. The same must have been for the larger Lugia before them, only someone up there took matters in their own hands. She also had to laugh, seeing that each time Lugia chortled, another light would turn on in the town below. He had a bellowing laugh!
That night, the town folks could see illuminated in the moon light two Legendary Water Gods on Dragon's Peak, with someone dancing and playing the Festival Song until dawn.
"Captains Strom and North… Please report to Sick Bay. Captains Strom and North, report to Sick Bay," rattled the morning aboard Forrestal.
The two men entered the room along with Charm, and were greeted by the chief surgeon. She was watching her large monitor screen. For some reason M2 was up on it.
"What's going on, Doctor?" North asked, watching his friend on the screen.
"You tell me," she said. "I came in here this morning and found this in my reader, and a good deal of my scanners still running…"
"Aw, what's he doing to himself?" Charm asked.
"Computer," the image of M2 said, "set for complete diagnostics."
M2 stepped onto a scanning platform, and stood for a beam to cross his body. He looked at the camera.
"As I said before, I'm sorry for not asking permission to use your equipment, Doctor… but you will see shortly why I am doing so… and hopefully, by now Captain Strom and Rob have arrived. Gentlemen… by this time, I will have left the ship. The reason for my departure should be evident by the time you see this. I… had a dream last night…"
PBM burst into the room. She was about to say something, but the image of M2 stopped her.
"The dream I had was of me destroying everything, because Mauvais re-emerged... from me. Puruu was there when I awoke, and confirmed that Mauvais dwells within me still. These scans should tell us more…"
"No…" PBM said quietly to herself. North took her hand and held it. Charm took her other hand.
"Until I can make sure that I can control it, I must leave you. It is for the safety of all."
Strom looked at the reader on the diagnostic scan's display. "Yup… he's got it all right…"
Charm found she was now holding PBM up a bit, as was North. "How… How much?" she asked. Strom handed the reader to North.
"Let's see…" North said, as he handed her support to the Captain and checked over the readings. "Aw, M2… Roy, can you get Puruu here please?"
"Problem?" he asked the scientist. Peanut looked hopefully at him as well.
"You could say that," the scientist grumbled. "Yes, M2 has some of the Mauvais DNA in him - it's entwined within his own DNA… But I can filter that out with my transmats…"
Strom looked at North. "You have his original DNA on file?" Then he slapped himself on the forehead. "Well, of course you do… so do we! Exeter originally found him in the first place!"
"Great! Now we have two missions! Find Myamoto, and now M2!" North shook his head as he watched his friend on the screen. "DEITIES! They think they know everything!"
"Hey, Jessie! James! Lookit dis!"
Meowth was pointing into a break in the forest the trio of Rockets were walking through. They had survived the Mauvais threat, but still were confused by all that had occurred to them. But there, in the middle of the clearing, they saw a familiar sight sitting in deep thought.
Jessie peeked through the bushes. "Why… it's that… what did they call it… a MewTwo?"
"Oooh, so it is!" James said with some excitement. "Just think what the boss would do if we brought him a MewTwo!"
The MewTwo in question sighed. "He'd probably scream and hide," he said. He then turned and looked over his shoulder at the three heads looking at him in shock.
"Ah ha…" Jessie said, a visible sweat drop falling from her forehead. "Would he?"
M2 glared at these three – they certainly were not the same as the trio he worked with up on the Prime, and no where near the level of the threesome he had from his own home. "In this dimension, he had your MewTwo created… a clone from that of a creature called a Mew… I know that it was extremely confusing to you when we first met all those months ago. I know for a fact that your first run in with your MewTwo was erased for your own protection… I return your memory to you…"
Jessie, James and Meowth stepped back, shaking their heads as if a curtain had been drawn back on their minds. Memories that had been blanked out returned. Jessie and James grabbed each other, as the shock of these memories swelled over them.
Meowth stood looking at the MewTwo for a moment. "Ah… I was cloned! AH! I WAS CLONED! YAA! I GOTTA CLONE!"
M2 looked at the cat. "So?" he asked unimpressed.
"Dat means 'dere's more of me ta love!"
M2 rolled his eyes. "Hopeless…"
"So, what brings you's to dees woods' MewTwo?"
M2 sighed. "For your own safety, I suggest you leave me… I have been infected by Mauvais… I could become a danger to you all…"
"M-Mauvais?" Meowth said, taking a step back. "What do you's mean? Dat Black Lugia thing we were fightin' a few months back?" M2 shook his head.
"W-well…" Jessie said nervously. "If that's the case, we'd best leave you be then…"
M2 looked up. "Wait! You're Jessie Musashi, are you not?"
Jessie and James looked at one another. It was not often that they heard someone use her full name. "Yes I am," she asked. "Why?"
M2 looked over at the long red hair that swirled about. "I have news… about your mother…"
"W-what?" Jessie said, in shock about the change in subjects, especially since the subject was suddenly her mother. She had to deal with a false image of her back when Mauvais first appeared and was still bitter about it.
"Myamoto, your mother, lives… a rescue party will be assembling on Shimouti Island in the Orange Islands Group. If you are quick, you may join up with them."
"Shimouti?" James yelped. "The last time we were to Shimouti was when we had that run in with Lugia!"
"My mother?" Jessie asked. "Are you sure?" M2 nodded.
"So, when's dis rescue party gonna get goin'?" Meowth quipped. "We ain't anywhere's near da Orange Islands right now…"
M2 smiled. "I can help with that…" He looked over to their right and saw a basket. "Is that your balloon?"
"Yea? What about it?"
He smirked. "Get into it," he ordered.
"W-what?"
Seeing that they were not moving fast enough, Team Rocket found themselves floating over to their balloon. They watched all their camping gear get stashed into the gondola - then they were placed into it as well.
"This will help you get there," M2 said. He formed an energy bubble around the balloon, raised it high over the land, and then tossed it to the southwest.
"WHOOOOOOAAAAA!" Team Rocket shrieked, as the land below blurred by. In no time, they found themselves over the water, heading out towards the Orange.
"Warp Speed Now!" Meowth yelled.
"Aye aye, Captain!" Jessie and James answered. "Looks like Team Rocket's warping out of orbit again!"
The mountain loomed over the waterfalls. Years ago, three bodies had fallen from it and struck the waters that pooled at it's base. Now, one of these bodies had returned.
She lay across a fallen mahogany tree, protected by an energy barrier from the elements and the spray from the waterfall. She seemed in a restful sleep.
The Muuma stared at her through the force field. It had attempted to pass through the energy before, but found it impenetrable. So it sat and glared at the barrier's contents.
"We will have our revenge!" it grumbled.
Meanwhile, far away on a Peruvian beach, a tiny all black Krabby waddled onto the shore. It blinked at the mountains before it. It scampered into the woods along the beach.
The quiet of the hanger bay was gone. Ruckus and shouting was the word of the day now. A large fleet shuttle and a smaller passenger version sat waiting departure on the deck.
PBM felt weak - almost as if she were watching the events from a distance. Having to yet again deal with another crisis in her life was beginning to take its toll on her. She was beginning to wonder if being in love with someone was really worth it all.
"S-so it'll be all right?" she nervously asked North as they crossed the deck to the open door of the smaller shuttle. "If we can find him? You can make sure he'll be OK?" The desperate look in her eyes said that the answer had better be yes, or there may be a psychic temper tantrum to clean up after pretty soon.
"Theoretically, yes," North nodded while processing information on a PADD unit.
"Theories are good," she said, beginning to breathe again. Charm groaned as she followed behind them with her hands behind her head and staring at the bay's ceiling.
"This bird just will not die," she complained. "What is it gonna take to kill it finally? I swear…"
"OK, would someone fill in the rat, please?" Ketchup asked as he groggily floated in. He seemed dripping wet.
"What the hell happened to you?" Charm asked the bedraggled angel.
He glared at her. "Frizz," he grunted. "A terminal case. I took a shower to get rid of it. Now what's going on?"
"Well, I wanted a doughnut," Psyche butted in, "but BJ refused to get any, so I demanded some Chocky Marshmallow Ice Cream, but she said no to that as well. So I bounce off a few walls, sprinkled some stun spores and got in trouble with this nice person who said something about giving me a new hole to something! That was when BJP covered my mouth and told me to shut up already! What does shut up already mean? So I went and found a large pile of these string-thingies and started nibbling on them. That was when that nice person said that was high on someone's Voltorb… or was it voltage? I can't remember, but it sure was tingly!"
Ketchup's head spun. "Who are you?" he gruffly asked the twisted Butterfree.
The gondola bobbed in the shallow water near the shore of Shimouti Island. A few miles out, the balloon that it had been attached to finally gave out from the excessive speed it had been put through. It fell into the surf, cart-wheeling as it did, flinging all the camping equipment out.
A bedraggled James sat in the basket, watching Jessie and Meowth wade ashore.
"Ugh," he muttered. He had been suffering slight airsickness. The landing had not helped.
"JAMES! Hurry up!" Jessie bellowed, turning in the shallows and planting her hands on her hips. Being spun like a pinwheel seemed not to have affected her. "If its true that my mother is alive, we've got to find that search party, and you lying around feeling sorry for yourself won't help!"
"But Jessiiiiiiiie… I feel sick…" he moaned, wishing he had not eaten that Rocket Stew earlier that day. Of course, who would have known he would have finished it off by being warped out to the Orange Islands and then spun-dunked into the ocean?
"JAMES!" she screeched with a fiery flair of hair that made her look almost like the Medusa!
"Ifeelbetternow, verymuchsoyesma'am," he yelped as he splashed into the water when the basket rolled to its side. He scrambled over to Meowth and the redhead, fearing either the frying pan, the mallet or the iron-ribbed fan.
Jessie defiantly pointed inland. "Look out Shimouti! Team Rocket has landed!"
"Whoopie," moaned Meowth. "Where's a litter box?"
"BLAAAAAAAAA!" James added as he chummed the waters.
And the Roll Play Rolls On…
