He studied the heavy clouds of smoke crowding the sky in small rising puffs. He took note of how the village in the distance was a now a mere scar against the border of West. And his anger manifested itself in the slight stiffening of his shoulders.
He had just been finishing his surveillance around the perimeter of his lands when he had caught wind of an utterly bitter smell. It burned at his sensitive nose and caused his stomach to curdle in revulsion. If he had been a lesser person he would have emptied his stomach.
His curiosity urged him to investigate the horrid scent. So he led his pack to the top of a hill where the smell seemed to permeate the strongest. The closer he drew the more he noticed the way the earth wept around him and the clouds darkened in the sky above.
A small cough echoed in the silence of his pack as he took stock of the damage. It broke through the Tai's concentration. He turned to his pack and took in the sight of his small ward holding her sleeve over her mouth and a slight watering of her eyes as she looked at him. It was then that he took notice of smoke rising forth and poisoning the air around his pack.
He motioned for his steed to take Rin away and the dragon in turn ushered the small girl further into the forest outside of the smokes range. With his ward safety taken care of the great Lord brought his mind back to the matter at hand, the ash that lay before that was marring his lands.
Anger began burning its way into him, willing his beast forward. 'Who would DARE trespass on to HIS lands and set a village under HIS protection aflame?'
"The humans have finally started to fall to their own stupidity. How easily they find themselves extinguished. Losing their homes to a simple flame. Weak beings" Croked Jaken as he caught his Lord's careful analyzing glare.
A growl rumbled loud and terrifying against the silver-haired Tai's chest. It shook the very earth that rested beneath their feet and warned their surroundings to his displeasure.
Immediately the Imp threw his body to the ground in a crumbled ball of submission. He whimpered in fear of the repercussions that would follow, because he had unwittingly enticed his great Lords fury.
He looked at the pitiful being before him and his anger only seemed to rise.
"Leave me."
"But my Lord!" Jaken pleaded his head still plastered
"LEAVE!"
Without another word of protest his servant scurried away, terrified of the beast he caught brief glimpses of in the great Tai's anger.
With the absence of his annoying retainer, Sesshoumaru descended into the scorched ruins to investigate.
