Chapter 14: Seeing Red.
The wind blew against his bare arms and he tried not to shiver at the feeling. Roy had always wondered why it seemed colder in Gotham than any other city, no matter what time of the year it was. Maybe it was because of the stain Gotham's criminals had made on the city, or the fact it was The Batman's home turf. Being in Gotham was one thing but knowing this was where the Batman lived would send chills up and down anyone's spine. Maybe it was Batman himself that somehow lowered the temperature with one of his famous Bat-glares, anything was impossible with when it came to the Dark Knight.
Red Arrow pushed the thought of the cold wind out of his mind and tried to focus on reason he was in Gotham in the first place. What annoyed Roy the most wasn't the fact that the Justice League had taken his mission away from him when he called in to information them about what he had learned from Cheshire. Nor was it that it was Cheshire who had told him that she had heard a rumour about Robin had been seriously injure in an explosion at Bruce Wayne's fundraiser that he knew Dick had to attend. Nor was it that Green Arrow wasn't answering his calls, and he hadn't even heard anything from Kaldur or even Wally for that matter about Robin being hurt.
It was that after zetaing from New York to Tokyo to meet with Cheshire, then hurrying to Star City hoping to find Green Arrow or Black Canary and get some information only have to zeta to Mount Justice. Then when getting there only to find the Cave deserted and then after checking the computer for the information to lead him back to place he should have gone in the first place.
Gotham City.
By the time Red Arrow was at the old phone booth and was aiming his bow and arrow at the roof of the building he was facing, he honestly didn't give a care what Batman was would do to him, once the Dark Knight learned he was in Gotham, let alone that he was heading to Wayne Manor dressed as the Red Arrow.
Roy needed to yell at someone by this point and Batman was going to be the prefect hero to fulfil that need. He fired the arrow he was aiming and then quickly pulled himself up on the roof. He had only walked half way across the roof when his comm link buzzed.
"What!?" Roy demanded, knowing exactly who it was.
"Care to explain what you're doing in my city?"
"You know why!" Roy said, as he came to stop at the edge of the building and looked around out at the city before him.
There a paused, "Get to Gotham Cemetery and find him."
"You're not here?!" Roy hissed, his eyes narrowing behind his mask, wondering how he could have left Wayne Manor let alone Dick.
"Zatara needed my help in New York." Batman stated, hearing Roy's tone.
"So Superman took my mission off me, informed you and then you up and left him!?"
"Now is not the time for this, Harper! Get to Gotham Cemetery and protect him! Robin's still critically injured. Understand?" Batman growled. Both men knew the Dark Knight was angrier at himself then Roy, however that didn't stop Roy from pushing the matter just that little bit further. The protective brother within him, combined with his anger issues, was now taking control.
"A great mentor you are. Robin's hurt and he's taken the Team to go after the man that nearly killed him." Roy stated, then jumped on to the roof of the building next to him, landing in a crouch as he braced his impact. "How hard did he hit his head last night?" Roy started running again.
"Too hard. However know that I'm not concerned if the Team learns the truth… Just protect Dick." Batman said firmly. "Batman out." The connection then died.
"Shit." Roy breathed under his breath as he jumped from the building he was on to the fire escape on the next building then quickly climbed down.
Roy was now more concerned about Dick then he was before he zetaed to Gotham, because if Batman didn't care if the Team learned the truth about who Robin really was, then the Boy Wonder was in more danger then had ever Imagine.
Roy pushed himself to run harder, because all that mattered was getting to Dick, and hoping the boy who he saw as little brother was fine.
For the first time ever he knew that the Batman hoped he was truly wrong.
