Oh hey there, well sorry for the wait! here ya go enjoy!
"You wanted to see me Father?" Kid asked staring at the ground, unable to focus on anything but the right way to approach Soul.
"Yes, I wanted to say congratulations on winning the last trial. Only one more and it's all over!" Death said in an upbeat tone. He stared at his son. He face was burrowed as if he was in deep thought and wasn't even paying attention to what he was saying. "Son?" Kid looked up realizing he wasn't paying any attention to his father.
"I'm sorry, you were saying?" Kid said now focusing on his father.
"What is troubling you my son?"
"How do you fix something that was your fault?" Kid could feel a slight burn in the back of his eyes.
"This wouldn't have to do with what happened at the end of the trial would it?" There was silence coming from Kid, and Death deduced it did. "Why did it break in the beginning?" Kid glanced up at his father.
"Because I lied." Kid admitted.
"Then just tell the truth!" Deaths' voice never swayed from the usual chipper tone.
"How can I tell the truth if they already know?" Kid said in frustration.
"Unless they heard it from you, they only know half of the truth! You can't complete a puzzle if you're missing half of the pieces!" His father had a good point and he left with some hope that he could make things better between him and Soul. First he needed to know what Stein had told him.
Soul sat in front of his living room window and watched as the sun chuckled at the heat he was forcing upon the people below him. He heard a soft knock at his door and ignored it.
"Soul?" Maka's soft voice came through as she unlocked the door and came inside.
"I shouldn't have given you a key." He said not moving any part of his body away from the window.
"Are you going to tell me what is going on with you and Kid?" Maka said sitting next to Soul with her back to the window.
"There is nothing going on." He said without any emotion.
"So, you just slapped him for no reason?"
"Yep." Maka wasn't buying it and Soul knew he was being a terrible liar.
"I saw Kid with Black Star after the trial; Black Star has seemed to have warmed up a lot to Kid recently." Soul moved to meet faces with Maka.
"What are you getting at?" Soul shot an angry glance at Maka and she gave Soul a timid smile.
"You're in love with Kid aren't you?" Soul's expression became blank.
"I don't know what you're talking about." He denied and put his face back to the window.
"Soul, why didn't you just tell me?" Maka asked turning her body to face Soul more. Why didn't he tell Maka? His best friend and his Meister yet he had never even mentioned when he started to develop feelings for the young shinigami, why was that? Was it because he knew that liking Kid was not ok, not to mention the thought of Kid liking him back was completely absurd and would never happen? Soul closed his eyes and thought back to what Stein had said to him. How Kid had no other choice but to forge a bond in order to survive. He wanted to hate Kid so much for using him like that but he couldn't bring himself to. After all, Kid did what he needed to and as much as he hated to admit it he did love Kid, more than he could stand.
Soul realized his eyes where becoming cloudy, "He doesn't love me Maka," The words broke Soul's heart as they came out.
"I don't think that's entirely true. Kid thought you were in the box, you should've seen the way he fought, for you. I don't know what happened between the two of you or who tried to tell you what Kid feels, but maybe you should talk to him." Maka placed a gentle hand on Soul's shoulder. Soul smiled and leaned into Maka.
"Thanks Maka," Soul said. Maybe it wasn't a bad idea and it gave Soul hope that maybe everything wasn't a lie.
"Anything else you're hiding from me?" Maka joked and Soul laughed along and there was a comfortable silence. But inside Soul's head he knew about the nightmares, he knew the demon blood had been itching at him more but he couldn't bring himself to bring it up. It had been so long since just the two of them had hung out without stress. Soul just sat and listened to Maka and she caught him up on the recent adventures of her life, which mostly consisted avoiding her dad.
Kid walked into Stein's office, he was sitting in his office chair staring at beakers bubbling. "I was wondering when you were going to make it to my office." Stein turned around and smiled at Kid, he had madness written all over his face.
"What did you tell Soul?" Kid demanded closing the space between them.
"The truth, clearly."
"You know what I mean, Stein." Stein sighed as if he was tired of repeating himself.
"I told him you had to have sex with him or you would die. And why would you care what I said?" Stein got up from his chair and stood closer to Kid towering over him. "Just because you developed feelings for him you think that gives you some sort of claim on him?" Stein leaned his face closer to Kid. "I saw him first, he's not yours anymore. In fact I have already claimed his body." Kids body began to shake with anger; he clenched his hand in a tight fist." Twice," Kid's fist made impact with Stein's jaw creating a bone cracking sound. It sent him flying, crashing into his table destroying the experiment Stein was working on. Stein sat up and looked two guns in the face.
"If you touch Soul one more time and I swear, not even Death will be able to protect you. I'll make your madness look like amateur work." Kid's eyes were dark and cold. He lowered the two guns and pointed them towards Stein's groin. "You could've left it alone; you didn't have to tell me about what I needed to do. If you wanted Soul so bad you should've let me die in that first trial. You know they wouldn't let the weapons die, so you have no one to blame but yourself." Kid fired his guns, the bullets surrounding Stein but never touching him. "Next time I won't miss." Kid turned his back on Stein and left him.
Soul said goodbye to Maka and shut the door behind her. He walked to his bedroom and stood in the doorway. He glanced at his bed and memories of what he and Kid did came flooding back. A soft knock at his door brought his mind back to reality. He walked back to his front door and looked though the peephole and saw Kid standing there. He rested his face on the door.
"What are you doing here? I thought I told you to never speak to me again." Soul said in a straight tone voice.
"Well right now I'm talking to a door, so I don't see me going against your wishes." Soul smiled at the sarcastic tone in Kid's voice. "Soul, please, let me come in. Let me explain."
"Explain what, why you lied?" Soul could feel his voice get louder.
"Yes, and to tell you…" Kid's voice trailed off. Soul bit his lip and placed his hand on the knob and opened the door and looked at Kid. He looked drain of most of his life. The eyes that once shone bright gold were now a dull pale yellow. He looked like a wreck and Soul wanted so badly to comfort him but he stood in his place.
"Tell me what?" Soul whispered. Kid walked into Soul's house and shut the door behind him. Soul backed up and he felt his heart began to beat quickly.
"Tell you that," Kid stretched out his hand. It was trembling as he placed it on Soul's face. "I love you." Kid's eyes began to flutter and his body went completely limp. Soul caught him before he hit the ground.
"Kid, what's wrong?" Soul shouted trying to shake Kid back to consciousness. "Kid!"
