Chapter 14
His face was featureless. Other than the frown that was ripped across his face.
I was so close to Slenderman, I could see the skin still pulling apart on the edges, and his black tongue that coiled out. My blood went to ice in my veins as I stared, paralyzed.
"PUT HER DOWN!" I heard Jeff scream from below.
I turned, seeing the enraged expression on his face.
"So it is true," Slenderman's voice boomed, sounding low and demonic.
"I said to put her down!" Jeff repeated, his grip on his knife tightening.
"Child, do you think you are in any position to tell me what to do?" Slenderman scoffed, his tone snarky and condescending.
"She. Is. Mine," Jeff hissed, baring his teeth.
"If you haven't forgotten, Jeffrey, you are not supposed to be interacting with humans. Let alone have such a strong relationship with one. So, I must dispose of the girl, and you must resume with your killing. Understood?"
Jeff snarled as Ben held up his hands. "Wow now, why do we have to go that far? Slends, I don't see there being a big deal, I mean-"
"Hush Benjamin," Slenderman growled, his voice raising. "I see know that you also played a part in this, like I figured before. Your consequences will not be as severe as Jeffrey's but…" His ripped mouth turned up into a smile. He chuckled, his tentacles quivering besides the one he held me up with.
"Enough of this!" Jeff yelled. Before I noticed anything, he had sprung forward, knife raised.
Slenderman hissed as Jeff cut right through one of his tentacles, the ground flying towards my face as I fell. Two arms caught me, and I looked up to see they belonged to Ben.
"Come on, let's get out of here," Ben whispered, setting me on my feet.
"But what about Jeff?" I asked, looking back.
The fight between the two of them was already starting, and it didn't appear to be going well for Jeff.
"He will be fine, I promise… I just know he wants me to get you away from here. Come on," Ben repeated, beginning to pull my arm.
We started to run, Slenderman and Jeff fading behind us. We turned the corner, pausing when we saw someone standing in the middle of the park. The sun was almost set, the streetlamps offering a bit more light than the sun. And the figure standing there was in between two. I nearly fell over when I realized who it was.
Jane.
I nearly clawed on to Ben's arm, my heart racing out of my chest. I knew I was going to die today, one way or another. First, Jeff tried to kill me. Then Slenderman. And now fucking Jane. Was I just destined to die?
"Stay behind me," Ben whispered. I nodded, doing as he asked. "So, psycho bitch. What's up?" Ben called. His only response was Jane raising her knife. "Oh, come on babe. Don't be like that," he snickered.
"Give me the girl," she hissed.
"Nah, I'm afraid I'm not gonna do that, sweetheart. Why in the hell would I give over the girl that JEFF LOVES SO MUCH to some psycho whore? Can you answer me that?" he smirked, crossing his arms.
Jane began to shake with anger, so close to lunging.
"But, hey. I like fighting more than the next guy. And I'll protect Stephanie for Jeff. So if you want to go… let's do it," he growled.
Ben then began to change. His hat and tunic began to fade to a darker green, appearing to be damp almost. That's when I noticed the water that started to drip to the ground. Blood started to spill from his eyes, looking like bloody tears. His teeth sharpened into points, along with his nails that grew into claws. Never have I seen Ben appear so deadly.
"You have met with a terrible fate, haven't you?" he chuckled, his voice raspy.
Jane sprinted forward, along with Ben. They collided, Ben sending Jane to the ground. She growled, slashing out her knife. Blood seeped through Ben's tunic, only a small slice on his arm showing through the ripped fabric. Ben's eyes narrowed, as he clenched his fists.
"You shouldn't have done that," he growled.
I jumped as the light bulbs on the streetlamps burst one by one. What was that?
A hysterical laugh bubbled up through Ben's mouth, his head throwing back from the force of it. He held out his hands, what appeared to be bolts of electricity shooting from his palms and fingers.
"What the fuck did you do," Jane gasped, backing away from him.
"What? Didn't know I could shock the shit out of you?" Ben laughed, blood streaking down his face. "I control electricity, Jane. I jump in and out of computers. Control them and TVs, from what you've seen anyway. All electronics or anything involving electricity. You have no idea what I'm capable of doing," he growled. "So. Shall we continue?" he asked, a wicked grin pulling across his face.
Before he finished, Jane twisted on her heel, speeding away. Ben chased after her, the electricity still shooting from his hands. He caught up with her instantly, only having to lay his hand on her back.
She fell to the ground, twisting and jerking as the electricity coursed through her. Ben kept his hand on her back, malice shining in his black eyes. Finally, he pulled his hand back. She laid on the ground, not moving. Was she dead? Or just unconscious? I didn't know. Standing up, Ben turned to face me. Walking back, he looked pretty content with himself. He was surely going to have a big head after that, and knowing Ben… that wasn't something I wanted to listen to. But he did save my life…
"Thank you…" I whispered.
"You're welcome, sweetheart," he replied, wiping the blood off of his face. It didn't appear to be easy due to the water that still dripped off his skin, drenching him.
"I didn't know about all of this…" I whispered. "I mean, the water makes sense. You're Ben Drowned. I take it… you really did drown," I chuckled, awkwardly. I had no idea what else to say.
"Nah shit," he replied, his clothes lightening up once more. His teeth and nails returned to normal as well.
"What about the electricity? I thought you could only jump through computers," I replied.
"Electronics or anything involving electricity is my specialty. I just don't have to use techniques like that very often," he replied, appearing to be completely dry now. He wiped the blood off with ease.
I nodded. "Pretty cool. How's your arm?" I asked, looking at the cut.
"Not too deep. I'll be fine. Now we should really get going," he sighed, turning and beginning to walk.
I stood in my spot, my lips pursed. It just felt so wrong to run away from everything, when Jeff could die trying to save me. Then, Slenderman would just find me anyway and I would die too. Why should that happen? I started to race forward, the opposite way from where Ben was heading. I was going back to the fight… and ending it. Jeff could live. He could live…
"Stephanie!" I heard Ben call from behind, and his footsteps as he ran after me.
I offered no reply as I continued, until I approached them. Trees were snapped in half. Grass was ripped up by their roots. The entire place looked destroyed. I looked around, until I spotted Slenderman. He had Jeff held up with his tentacles, one coiling around his legs, and the other around his neck. A strangled cry flew from Jeff's mouth as Slenderman pulled each of his tentacles opposite ways to rip him in half.
All I could do was scream.
