Chapter Fourteen; Old Friends, New Enemies

"You know I can't believe I'm saying this but I sort of miss the way I looked when I married you too." The Doctor began. "You know what no, scratch that. Actually I can believe it, I was pretty sexy come to think of it." He told her with a grin as they continued walking down the street together while she grinned back at him. "Although as I recall, the first time I regenerated you wanted me to go back to my old man self." He said as he continued to grin as they walked past the supermarket and a tiny black poodle ran past her wearing a shimmering silver collar.

"Aww, what a cute little guy!" she exclaimed.

"Rose don't even think about it! We already have a dog and we're getting a kitten." The Doctor told her. "Besides, this one's already wearing a collar and that means that he already has an owner." He said.

"I know that, I just want to try and catch him before he hurts himself or something." Rose told him before she took off and The Doctor rolled his eyes. That's when suddenly a woman with auburn hair, bright blue eyes, and peached skin ran past him the best she could in high heels. She had also been dragging her younger daughter (who was about Jane's age) by the hand as she ran. Her daughter looked just like her except for her hair was still bright red.

"Banjo! Come back here boy!" she cried when The Doctor suddenly stopped her.

"Excuse me miss, you wouldn't happen to be looking for a tiny black poodle dog would you?" he asked her.

"Yes that's him! Did you see which way he went?" she asked him eagerly.

"No but my wife just went after him." He explained when suddenly he saw her walking back over to them carrying the tiny black dog inside her arms. "There she comes, is that the dog you were looking for?" he questioned her when suddenly her eyes widened with shock and disbelief.

"Rose?" she questioned with astonishment.

"Amber?" Rose questioned her back.

"Is that really you?" Amber asked her.

"Yeah," Rose answered back with a grin before setting Banjo down on the ground in front of her.

"Oh my God! I can't believe it's you!" Amber cried as the two ladies embraced each other tightly.

"Me neither! I haven't seen you since high school!" Rose exclaimed before she slowly pulled away and let go of her.

"I take it then that you two know each other." The Doctor said.

"We sure do! We were best friends growing up!" Amber exclaimed excitedly. "I wish you would have stayed in touch." She told her.

"I know I'm sorry but I guess I just got busy." Rose admitted sheepishly.

"It's alright, we're here now." Amber began.

"This is my husband The Doctor." Rose told her as she gestured over to him.

"Nice to meet you, my husband was a doctor too." Amber began as she shook the head. "Unfortunately that wasn't enough to stop him from getting cancer. He passed away a year ago." She explained as Rose suddenly grew silent and became pale. "Rose? Are you alright?" she asked her.

"Yeah, I'm fine. It's just that I just lost my mum to cancer." She explained.

"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry." Amber quickly apologized.

"That's alright, you didn't know." Rose told her.

"Anyway, I'd like you to meet my four year old daughter Maggie. Well her real name is Meghan but we've called her Maggie since that day she was born." She explained as Rose suddenly squatted down next to her.

"Well it sure is nice to meet you Maggie. I have a son and a daughter about your age named Peter and Jane." She told her while her mother smiled down at her but the little girl shyly looked away from her and hid her face.

"I'm sorry, she's pretty shy around people that she doesn't know." Amber said.

"That's alright that's the way it should be since I'm practically a stranger to her." Rose assured her with a grin before she stood back up. "Anyway, would you like to stop by our apartment and meet our family? My friend Mickey's watching the kids right now. I'm sure you remember him." She said with a sly little grin.

"Why? Has she met him before?" The Doctor asked her.

"Oh yeah, Rose and I used to fight all the time over him when we were kids." Amber explained as she took her daughter by the hand and started to walk back towards the parking lot so that they could follow them back to their apartment.

Meanwhile Martha was over helping Mickey watch the kids and giving Cassie her bottle. As usual Shadow stood up and started to bark as The Doctor and Rose arrived home with Amber and Maggie beside them. "Hullo guys, we have some people that we want you to meet." Rose began as Mickey stopped and stared at Amber.

"Amber Holiday?" he questioned with disbelief while Martha's eyes started to widen.

"Amber? Who's Amber?" she asked him crossly as she placed her hands upon her hips.

"She's an old friend of Rose's." he answered.

"Oh really? Because it looks like you knew her pretty well yourself." Martha said.

"Uh,.." Rose began nervously before she quickly turned to look over at her children. "Peter, Jane, I'd like you to say hullo to Maggie." She told them as the two of them slowly walked over to her.

"Hi!" Jane cried excitedly. "I love your hair!" she cried with a point. (for once she had been wearing her hair down and she smiled widely at how their style of hair had matched each other's)

"Jane darling, it's not nice to point." Her mother told her with a shake of her head.

"Aw man! Not another girl!" Peter exclaimed.

"Peter!" Rose snapped with complete shock and bewilderment as Amber laughed.

"It's alright, my nephew feels the exact same way. Just wait until he starts liking girls, then you won't be able to get him to stop talking about them." She said as she turned to look back over at Martha who had been folding her arms at her and shooting an evil glare at her. "Is it my imagination, or am I sensing some tension here?" she questioned.

"Uh Amber, that's Mickey's girlfriend Martha." Rose told her anxiously.

"Yeah, I figured that. Well I don't want to stir up any trouble so we better be going. Maggie has a ballet recital that she needs to practice for anyway." Amber said as she turned around and started headed back towards the door.

"Wait before you guys go would you like a kitten?" Rose asked them.

"I'd sure love to, but I can't. I'm allergic." Amber answered. "It was nice seeing you guys again and meeting you." She began as she turned back over to The Doctor. "I'm sorry, I don't think that I ever got your real name." she said.

"John Smith." He answered.

"Ha that's ironic, Pocahontas is one of Maggie's favorite movies." Amber said. "Well nice meeting you anyway, c'mon Maggie." She said before the two of them walked back out the door.
