His Very First Pudding

"What the heck is that?! Is it even edible?!"

"Now Tim, that's not nice… I'm pretty sure it is edible…uh…"

"But look at it! It's so liquid-y and gross looking!"

"Tim! Quiet! Damian can hear you!"

"So what? I'm just telling the truth; you're thinking it too!" Dick gasped in shock before quickly turning to reassure his youngest brother that that was not true. However, while Dick was trying to console the young Robin and tell him what a good job he did, Damian couldn't help but feel his eyebrow twitching in irritation.

"Tt will you just shut it Grayson?" Damian growled.

"But Damian…!"

"ENOUGH!" The room became silent as Damian just looked at the plate that he had presented to his brothers just moments earlier. "Tt!" With a huff, Damian grabbed the two plates and began to walk away from his brothers.

"Damian! What are you doing?" Dick asked.

"What does it look like? Since this is so inedible as you and Drake stated it would be foolish to allow you two to eat it so I am disposing of it," Damian replied.

"Aw but Damian! We never said that! Right Tim?"

"But I did though…"

"Not helping Tim!" Damian let out a sniffle as he took one last look at the pudding he had worked so hard on to make, before reaching for the trash bin when…

"Eh? What's this?" Letting out a gasp, Damian turned to see one of the plates of pudding missing. Swerving his head, his eyes widened when he saw the missing plate in the hands of his eldest brother's girlfriend.

"M-miss Miharu?!" Damian stuttered as he just stared at the raven haired woman who was now standing in the doorway, pudding in hand.

"Hi to you to Damian-kun," Miharu replied.

"Mi-chan!"

"Miharu!"

"Hi Tim, hi Richard," Miharu greeted. Dick practically leapt in joy before rushing over and giving his girlfriend a massive bear hug.

"Mi-chan! I'm so glad to see you! I missed you so much!" Dick exclaimed as continued to cuddle the tiny woman.

"I missed you too Richard now…can you ease up a bit? I don't want to drop Damian-kun's pudding."

"Oh…sorry."

"When did you get back Miharu? I thought you were still going to be in France for another week," Tim asked.

"My papa and I were able to get a flight back early," Miharu replied as she tried to balance the plate in her hand while returning her overly affectionate boyfriend's hug. "He just dropped me off here and Alfred-san let me in."

"Ah."

While this was going on, Damian just stood there in silence still staring at the plate that Miharu held in his hand.

"By the way…Damian-kun?"

"Huh? I mean… Yes Miss Miharu?" Miharu smiled before she lowered the plate so it was in front of her face.

"Did you make this pudding?" she asked. Damian blushed before coughing lightly and responding.

"Uh…yes but I seemed to have failed during the preparation so it is inedible. I was just about to throw it away to prevent any indigestion of any kind so…" Damian, Tim and Dick's eyes widened as Miharu took a bite of the pudding.

"Miss Miharu!"

"Ah!"

"Mi-chan!"

"It's good." Silence.

"Eh?!"

"Ah, Miharu….are you sure? I mean…" Tim started. "…it's all….weird looking."

"That's how it's supposed to be silly. Granted not this watery but it's still good for a first try," Miharu commented. "Was this your first try Damian-kun?"

"It was…" Miharu nodded before moving out of Dick's embrace and squatting down to be at Damian's level.

"It tasted wonderful Damian-kun," she said before pulling the ten year old into a tight embrace. Blushing, Damian let out a small "Tt" before returning Miharu's hug.

"Hey, it really isn't that bad…"

"It is a tad sweet though…" Damian felt his eyebrow twitch.

"Drake…"

Author's note: Alright to explain the setting, this chapter takes place after the events of YJ: Invasion. Damian is going to appear even though he didn't appear in YJ. (Also for later clarification, Jason is has already been through the Lazarus Pit and all that good stuff.) I also want to explain that Dick and Miharu are about 22 and 21 respectively. (Or somewhere around that age) Just message me if there are any other questions or requests. Do expect future chapters to span from YJ to YJ: Invasion. Also I will try to update as much as possible but I wouldn't expect updates every month, although I will try my best for monthly updates!

Now, on to what you've all been waiting for…!

The recipe featured in this chapter is…Purin! (aka Japanese custard pudding)

Ingredients

Caramel

1 cup (200g) sugar

3 Tbsp (50ml) water

Custard

2 cups plus 1 Tbsp (500ml) milk

3 eggs

1/2 cup (100g) sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

Caramel Syrup

In a heavy pot, put in sugar and water, but do not stir. Put it on the stove at medium heat until the water and sugar turns to dark brown. Pour the syrup into 8 small (3" diameter x 2" high) pudding cups or ramekins (may have some leftover).

Custard

Heat milk until just before boiling. Whisk together eggs and sugar, and add hot milk very slowly to avoid eggs curdling. Strain the mixture to make the liquid smooth, and add vanilla. Pour the mixture over the hardened syrup.

In a baking pan such as 13x9x3, place purin cups, and pour hot water around the cups (not in the cups!) about 3/4 up the side of the cups.

Bake at 350 F for 40-45 mins or until custard sets.

Refrigerate at least 3 hours or preferably overnight. You could decorate with whipped cream and cherries before serving if you wish.
