Angel of Music

the mask

my first unfeeling scrap of clothing

He's grown.

But still there's that tiny little part inside of his heart that just can't leave the past behind. The very small part inside of his heart that holds all the memories of him and Stevie.

Stevie.

He doesn't forget her. No matter how hard he tries.

The Royal Theatre is renovated and soon enough, the shows start selling again and everybody's happy.

Well, let's not get carried away.

Because of course, not everybody's happy. Because there's always one man, whi lives in the shadows, one man who will always stay deep down in the dungeons of the Theatre.

And soon enough, he's the ghost of the Royal Theatre again, just like the old times. He doesn't even know why he scares the audience members during shows. Is it because he wants to kill time, or perhaps because of revenge? Whi knows?

All he knows is that Stevie Baskara is long gone, and there's nothing he can do about it.

He's bored. He lost his piano in the fire, so writing songs is mainly impossible. Sneaking into dressing rooms like how he did with Stevie is something he doesn't do anymore, scarred by the memory of the beautiful girl.

So somedays, he'll put on his mask, with the hood of his jacket pulled far over his head, and he'll just hop on a train, not caring about his destination.

One day, during one of these reckless trainrides, he meets this suspicious girl. The girl has long brown hair and seems a bit snobby, and Zander almost wonders if he knows her. The girl absentmindly plays with a box of matches, which remind Zander of fire - the fire - God, when doesn't he think about the fire?

So he gets off at the next stop, not wanting to go any further. He finds himself in a neighbourhood that seems pretty nice, and he decides that if he were to live somewhere else than under the Royal Theatre, it'd be here.

He's walking through the streets, looking at houses, when he hears it.

His song.

His song for Stevie Baskara.

His song for Stevie Baskara, sung by Stevie Baskara.

She hits the right notes, and he feels goosebumps forming. Tears prickle in his eyes, because he found her.

She finishes the song and he's about to clap, when he realizes that would be kind of pathetic because he's underneath her window where she can't see him, and you know - he's in a public street and all that.

But he hears her crying.

And before he can call her name, before he can do anything, she starts a new song.

The tears I might have shed

For your dark fate

Grow cold and turn to tears of hate!

Farewell my fallen idol and false friend

We've had such hopes

But now those hopes are shattered

She's mad. And he realizes she has every reason to be. But she seems to calm down a bit, because her singing becomes softer.

Angel of music, who deserves this?

When will you see reason?

Angel of music, you decieved me

I gave my mind blindly

And before he can stop himself, he runs up to the door to her house.

It takes her a little while to open the door, but when she does, she looks him in the eyes and stays quiet for more that five minutes.

When he opens his mouth to say something, she's faster.

Pitiful creature of darkness

What kind of life have you known?

God give me courage to show you

You are not alone.

He expects her to punch him, yell at him, make him regret he ever let her walk away that night two years ago. And yet she does the one thing he doesn't expect her to do.

She rips his mask off and kisses him.
