"So why the change of heart?" I jumped turning to the see the golden soldier approaching me. I had been left in a guarded room, they still didn't trust me even though I was willing to go up against Schmidt.
"The letter..." He nodded coming to stand beside me, looking at the map I had been staring at in boredom.
"So where are you from?" I blinked but, turned then pointing out Munich.
"A little village just a day's travel from Munich, and you?" He smiles pointing out New York on the map.
"Right here the Big Apple."
"Why do you call it that? Does it look like a big apple?" He laughed rubbing the back of his neck.
"You know I actually don't know why they call it that, cause you're right it doesn't look like an apple." I smiled a bit at his laugh, enjoying the sound.
"So, will I ever get to know your name or are you just going to be fine with me calling you soldier?" He smiles holding out a hand.
"Steve Rogers, at your service."
"Klara Vogel." His hand was calloused and rough and yet the handshake was gentle. I pulled back my hand blushing a bit having never had much contact with other men, well people in general.
"So how did you come to meet Dr. Erskine?"
"Surely he told you?"
"No...he was a private man he only explained to me once, why he was still researching the serum."
"Schmidt, sadly...though it was one of the only –" The door opened to reveal Howard Stark who glanced between us then gave Steve a wide smile.
"Oh I see how it is Captain—" I blinked turning to him.
"You're-?"Steve looked nervous and like he wanted to punch Stark.
"Yeah..." I tilted my head then not really sure how I wanted to react a part of me wanted to slap him, to demand why it took him so long to help me; but also why he let me be tortured. But rather I shrugged walking past him to the doorway.
"Well at least I know I'm going with the best ." I mumbled walking away then, brushing past Howard Stark who made no effort to conceal his...staring.
"Alright here she is." Stark gestured to a motorcycle which looked a bit small but I nodded.
"How fast is it—"
"Fast enough." Steve entered in Captain America garb stepping onto the bike. "Ready?"
"As I'll ever be." I muttered sliding in behind him, he gunned the engine then and I jolted a bit hands gripping onto his shoulders as my heels found purchase on the metal workings of the bike. If I didn't know any better I could feel the Captain's smirk as he asked.
"Got a good grip?" I glared,
"Yes though I'm tempted to knock you off for that." He laughed.
"Just trying to relax you."
"Congratulations, you did the opposite." We sped off, the plan now in play, it would take only a few hours to arrive at the destination and at the speed the motorcycle was gunning at maybe a few minutes earlier then I had predicted.
Reaching the area that was familiar I leaned forward hair whipping my face as I called up.
"Welcoming party will show up soon, we've entered the base area!" Steve gave a nod that he had heard me and revved the engine. The trees passed by in a blur as the fog had settled in the area around us. I heard the party before seeing them, turning I gripped onto Steve's shoulder my legs gripping the sides as I looked back.
"Six behind you!" Suddenly the familiar sound of the Tesseract enhanced guns sounded and I gasped ducking Steve unlatched his shield, which he handed to me, I slipped my arm through the grips. As the bullets bounced off the strange metal, making a strange resonation sound on the metal.
"I thought you said they wouldn't shoot at you!?" Steve called back.
"I guess I was wrong!" I yelled still behind the safety of the shield. He pressed a few buttons on the bike's handle a mechanism shooting out a line of rope between two trees four ducked two did not.
"Four left!" I called up.
"Warning we're going faster!"
"What!?" He gunned the engine only this time flames erupted from the back I screamed wrapping the arm that wasn't holding his shield around his waist burying my head in between his shoulder blades. The fire worked though as two more of our pursuers were either knocked off their bikes or forced to jump as the flames engulfed them.
"Two left!" I called from my hunched over position.
"Got it!" He called as I realized we were no longer being chased, rather we were the chasers. And neither did the guards notice as Steve pulled up behind one unlatching the grenade in the compartment. I winced as it blew leaving nothing behind us of our pursuers and onto the main gate I hefted up the shield to him.
"You'll need that!" Already he had moved it into place against the handles as the tank and gunners rained down enhanced bullets. The tank rumbled forward no doubt hoping to collide but Steve's cycle was ready with more fire power, the tank decimated in a plum of smoke and flames. Steve went for the ramp like side of the cement gate rocketing us up into the air. As we landed with a hard jolt I lost my grip on his suit, with a surprised and terrified scream I landed in a heap onto the cold muddy ground. I gasped attempting to get the wind back into me, as Steve went about distracting the guards. I jumped up already two HYDRA gunners closing in on me. With what little fighting I could recall I sidestepped one grabbing his wrist and punching my other hand up into his elbow. Hearing the crack as his joint bent the wrong way the man cried out pulling back the other lashed out at me, I ducked kicking out his feet from under him. Still on the ground I brought my foot up and down on his helmet hard. He jolted then stopped moving, hopefully I had only knocked him out but I didn't stay to find out as a grip pulled on my hair. I cried out attempting to pull away which only made the pain worse and my captor's grip
stronger. I drew in a quick breath through my nose about to sing but they were faster taking a mud covered rag and gagging me. I struggled still until I noticed Steven had been caught as well. I pulled at my captor but his grip didn't slacken. Steve glanced at me and I shook my head.
Make him think he's won. S teve nodded to me then, some guards came forward guns trained on the Captain.
"Bring these two to Schmidt." The one holding my hair finally released and pushed me into another guard's grip where they lead us into the base...And back to Schmidt.
Huge thank you to WinterLifeAmerica! She is the reason these are getting up so much faster!
