And you thought I was done :) Just a little epilogue to tie everything together! Enjoy!
Word was sent to Tribune that the fight was successful. He then sent word that he was sending Calia back with an armed escort to be sure she was safe on the return trip.
Marguerite peaked out of the window of the room Naomi had given her and Roxton, with a bit of shock. People, human and lizard alike, lined the streets knowing the girl would be returning today. She smiled at seeing how rejuvenated the people of the Kingdom seemed to be. A hand wandered down to her stomach where she felt a slight stirring. Butterflies is the best way the brunette could describe the feeling, but she knew it was so much more. It was the life of her second child thriving and telling her that he or she was alright. The opening of the door made her turn away from the window.
Roxton's smile was ear to ear upon entering. He had let Marguerite sleep in today because of all the events over the last week. She was gorgeous standing at the window with sunlight framing her silhouette. "Naomi's waiting in the entrance hall. I think she may need your reassurance." He came to her and wrapped his arms around hugging her tight.
"What makes you say that?" She leaned into his embrace loving how close they were.
Again his smile widened. "Oh just because she is pacing like a madwoman with worry. Doesn't sound like anyone that we know does it?" He remarked referring to the way that Marguerite tended to worry about things.
The brunette backed away with a scoff. "I do not pace Lord Roxton." Again she felt the baby flutter in her womb. It was the most activity she had felt since becoming pregnant. A smile spread across her face unconsciously and she saw her love eye her with a questioning glance. "I can feel the baby." The statement was timid; as if she was afraid of the movement. Becoming a mother again was still a daunting idea in her mind.
The hunter closed the space between them again, this time placing his hand on her growing stomach. He could not feel the child himself but knew that it would take a few more weeks for him or her to develop so he could. "I love you." Were the only sounds he could muster before kissing his love passionately.
Any worries about being a mother melted away when her white knight kissed her. The kiss lasted for a few moments before they had to breathe. "I should get to Naomi." Marguerite smiled as she left the room with Roxton right behind her.
Holding her son safe in her arms was little comfort. The entrance way was empty as far as Naomi was concerned. Sure the friends of her mother had gathered, Tartan stood by the side and countless others outside the palace walls awaited the return of Calia, but Naomi would not be satisfied until her own daughter was back. Until her eyes could fall upon those scales and she could have her children together for the first time. The baby in her arms stirred slightly and she pressed a kiss to his forehead. "Soon enough my sweet." She went back to her pacing as a way to ease her mind. "I thought you said she would be here by now!" An annoyance was directed towards Tartan who had spoken with the messenger that was sent to the Empire for her daughter.
Before he could respond a door opened reveling Roxton and Marguerite walking in. "Naomi she will be here." Marguerite could understand how the waiting was driving her daughter insane. After all at the beginning of this hectic week she herself was a waiting mess. Coming behind the younger woman, mother placed a comforting hand on her daughter's shoulder.
Naomi smiled half-heartedly. It was still odd for her mother to be here comforting her, but she was so glad that it could be. "I know." At that moment shouts began to erupt from outside the front door. Joyous shouts could be heard causing a bright smile to spread over the Queen's face. Tartan and his remaining guard opened the large palace doors to reveal the carriage holding her daughter. The door opened and a sight for which Naomi thought she would never see again fell upon her eyes.
It was an excruciatingly long ride from the empire but all the worth it when he saw her face. The wonder, love, and relief covering her eyes was all he needed to know that she was alive and well. Malakai left the carriage followed by their daughter and Challenger.
"Malakai?" Naomi's words were lost to her as she saw him. He stood proud and waiting for her to come to him just outside the palace doors. Quickly she obliged, joyous tears streaming down her face.
The King embraced his wife for longer than was custom in lizard society. He could not help himself or be farther from caring. Seeing her again brought forth feelings that he had not felt for months. "Oh my love, you were right. I should have never left." He placed a kiss to her forehead, taking note of the child in her arms. A smile came to his face upon seeing the child.
His strong arms around her comforted the Queen more than anything else. "It doesn't matter. We are together and a family again." Naomi kissed her husband. In front of all their subjects who could be heard sighing and cheering at the reuniting of their monarchs.
Calia leaped from the carriage behind her father. She was finally home with the people she loved. Being small was an advantage as she weaseled her way in between her parents to hug her mother. When she saw the bundle in her way she slightly frowned, but smiled as she realized who the bundle was. "Is that him?"
Naomi smiled at her daughter and took an upright position. Using a full voice so the people of her kingdom could hear, she addressed the two people in front of her. "King Malakai, Princess Calia, there is someone who I would like you to meet." She saw Malakai already smiling, his pointed teeth showing in the sun. "May I present Prince Kai."
She would do something like this. Malakai thought to himself. It only pleased him more that the baby was named after himself. "A fine addition he is my dear!" Taking his child from his wife he presented the baby to the Kingdom and a roar of applause.
Roxton placed himself protectively behind Marguerite as Naomi greeted her family. The only thing that his step-daughter had requested for this presentation to the Kingdom and welcoming back was that someone find her crown, which Finn gladly went back to her chambers for. She looked amazingly regal despite the past few months of hell she had been through. "She's strong, just like her mother. " He whispered into the dark locks of his love.
Marguerite could only smile as she listened to Malakai give a riveting speech about the triumph they had in the last few days. She looked to her grandson who was still in his grasp and thought of her second child growing in her womb. Then she glimpsed around to the other faces in the front entrance with her. This was her family, her blood, what she came to the plateau searching for. Roxton, her loving to-be-husband who would do anything for her. Naomi, a daughter who she got the second chance to know. Veronica and Ned, a sister and brother that she did not even realize she needed. Finn, the unexpected family member who rounded them all out with her future quirks. Challenger, who had greeted everyone and came to stand with them in this little half circle, a deep friend and almost father figure to them all. Even Summerlee, the doting grandfather, went through her mind.
She did not realize when her deepest secret became her deepest desire.
