CHAPTER 14
"Erza," he uttered and all eyes turned towards him at the moment minus the girl.
Slowly, he saw the girl turned her head around to face him and he gasped in shock when he saw her face because there in his living room was indeed the fearsome student council president Erza Scarlet sat penetrating his gaze with her deep chocolate brown eyes.
"What the hell?!" He yelled as the words blurted out of his mouth without control.
"Sasuke!" He heard his mother reprimanded him in a stern voice but he paid no mind to her. His eyes stared dead ahead at the red head in his line of view. There was so many things whirling around in his mind and he can feel himself going into a frenzy state. He cannot fathom how on earth everything came down to this.
The mere thoughts of Erza becoming his sister in-law made him sick to his stomach. This was all wrong.
This can't be happening!
"Hey I'm back," came a feminine voice, breaking his train of thoughts. He instinctively looked at the source and his eyes landed on a petite figure that was walking towards them with a smile on her face. "I left my phone in the car," she informed showing the phone in her hand as she stopped short beside him.
"Hello Sasuke," she greeted still with the same smile on her face. The girl was beautiful with her brown doe eyes and dark brown hair. Somehow, she felt oddly familiar to him. Sasuke looked at the unknown girl up and down trying to figure out where on earth he had seen her before.
"Who are you?" He asked with a raised eyebrow.
"We've never met before," she said. "But I've heard so much about you from Itachi. I'm Faith by the way. Faith Lehane, your future sister in-law," she introduced.
"What?" Sasuke's eyes widened when he heard that. "Wait a minute," he said frantically. He was totally confused about the whole thing today. "If you're the fiancée, then what the hell is Erza doing here for?"
"She's my cousin, you doofus," Faith said.
Sasuke looked at her incredulously.
"Come on, let's go sit down and have a chat. You and I need to get to know each other better," she said as she grabbed his arm and led him to sit on the couch with everyone else. Sasuke tried to pry his arm away in protest but Faith was surprisingly strong for such a small person.
Sasuke had a look at Erza who sat in front of him. For the first time that day, he noticed how beautiful she looked in a simple white blouse and blue knee length skirt. "I didn't know that you have other cousin aside from Lucy," he voiced out to her.
"Faith and Lucy are the only cousins I have. Faith comes from my mother's side and Lucy from my father's side," Erza told him.
Sasuke nodded at her answer. There was so much he wanted to ask her but the time was not appropriate. He would ask her later on when they were alone. Sasuke felt a huge relief after the misunderstanding was cleared up, glad that Erza was not going to be his sister in-law.
"You guys sit down and do the talking, your father and I are going to see if the food is ready," Sasuke heard his mother said as she rose from the couch and headed to the kitchen followed by his father.
"Sasuke," he heard his brother's voice. He forgot about Itachi in all the confusion and drama.
"Brother," he greeted and walked up to him to give him a manly hug. He missed Itachi. They were always close as a brother.
"How's school?" Itachi asked as they both were seated again.
"It's fine," Sasuke shrugged before his eyes narrowed at his only brother. "What are you doing these days? I know you've been busy and all but are you that busy you couldn't even spare some time to see me? I was sick the other day you know," he informed heatedly.
He can see a small smile grazing Itachi's lip. "I'm sorry Sasuke, I am really busy for the past few weeks but I don't have much pressing matters for two weeks onward, so maybe we can hang out more," his brother said.
Sasuke's own smile appeared on his face. Really, he can't stay mad at his brother for too long no matter what Itachi did. "Sounds like a good idea," he retorted.
His eyes suddenly stopped short to the girl sitting in front of him. Erza was looking calm and collected as usual. He wondered what she was thinking about and he still can't believe that she didn't say anything to him about this.
He opened his mouth to speak to her but was cut short by Faith asking him some questions. His attention was switched for now from Erza as he entertained his future sister in-law. Truth to be told, he was surprised how easy the conversation flowed between them. He didn't expect it to be this easy for their first time meeting. He thought it would be awkward but thankfully it didn't happen that way. Faith seemed nice and likable although he could see the darkness in her eyes. He could practically feel it surrounding her, enveloping her like a shadow.
He thought he was going crazy with his own uncanny observation. But he can't help what he felt. There was some sense of mystery surrounding the browned haired girl.
"You know, I'm really curious how you moved my stoic of a brother to even ask you to be his girlfriend, much less ask you to marry him," Sasuke said out of curiosity. "I really thought that he's going to be alone for the rest of his life."
Itahi let out an unlikely snort hearing his words while Faith only gave him a sexy grin in return. "Maybe I'll tell you one of these days, but I get a feeling that you want to talk to Erza. So I'll leave you two to talk for now," she said before she turned to Itachi.
"You want to show me around?" She asked with the husky voice of hers.
"Sure," Itachi said with a smirk on his face as he stood from the couch.
"You two play nice and talk. And don't do anything I wouldn't do you hear me," Faith retorted as she was led away from the living room by Itachi.
Sasuke saw Erza rolled her eyes at her cousin. "That's certainly a very short list," she muttered quietly making him raised an eyebrow at that comment.
.
.
Erza focused her attention back at the man in front of her. They were alone in the living room and she could see the annoyance on the other occupant's face.
"Nice to see you again," she said simply a little unnerved by the look he was giving her.
"Seriously," he suddenly bellowed, but not enough to be heard by anyone else in the house. It was a big ass house after all. "That's what you have to say?" He said incredulously in a much controlled voice. Erza can't really blame him for losing his mind like that.
"What do you want me to say?" She asked, hissing at him. The truth was she didn't know how to explain all these to the raging Uchiha in front of her.
"Oh I don't know. How about 'I'm sorry for not telling you that I know your brother and my cousin is currently engaged to him'," he said sarcastically.
"Okay, okay, I'm sorry," she said. "I'm sorry for not telling you about my cousin and your brother but I really forgot about it," she keeled under his scrutinizing stare. It was not entirely her fault anyway. She really did forget about it and she didn't think it matters if he knew or not anyway. Not like he made any effort to know his own brother's fiancée before. "Happy now?"
She saw the annoyance and tension left his body but he still sported that scowl on his face.
"You're forgiven for now," Sasuke muttered.
And Erza sighed in relief, didn't realize that she had been holding her breath. She really didn't want to get into another useless fight with Sasuke if she could help it. It was too tiresome and always left him with a bad mood. As of late, she kind of thought of him as a friend. And he's going to be family with Faith soon, so she really wanted to be civil to him for Faith's sake.
"So… Faith?" Sasuke uttered a long stretch of silence.
"Yeah," Erza drawled. "She's my cousin from my mother's side. Her father was my uncle, she married an American. We didn't really know each other, you know. I mean, we only met several times when we were toddler, so I don't really remember her. After my uncle died when Faith was three, she remained with her mother in America and we lost contact with them."
"So how did you found each other again?" Sasuke asked with a curious gaze.
Erza gave a bittersweet smile as she remembered on the event that led her to see cousin again. "We met each other after my parent died and we become really close after that. She helped me through a lot," she said with a shrug. "Turn out my mom named her as one of the shareholders for the company she built together with my dad. I mean Faith was her flesh and blood, a remembrance of her brother. My mother loved her. It's too bad that she can't see her for one last time before she died."
"Why?"
Erza raised an eyebrow at his inquiry. "Why what?"
"Why didn't your parents find her after your uncle died? Or visiting?"
"They moved away after my uncle died and his wife didn't tell us the address. It was a few years later when my mom got hold of them again. She tried to adopt Faith when she was thirteen but-," Erza stopped herself before she can reveal any further information. She suddenly felt uncomfortable talking about this. In fact, she was not supposed to talk about it at all.
"But?" Sasuke inquired.
"Look Sasuke, it's not my place to tell," she said resignedly. "Let's just drop this topic okay," she suggested with a pleading eyes.
Sasuke stared at her with unreadable eyes for a moment but thankfully he nodded his head in agreement.
"But I want you to know that Faith's a good person. She's not after your brother's money or anything. She loves Itachi, and that's something coming from someone with a commitment issue like her," she tried to convince the youngest Uchiha.
"Don't worry about it," Sasuke replied. "I kinda like her now after knowing her. She's a fun person to be around."
"You have no idea," Erza said with a knowing grin.
.
.
The dinner turned out to be great. Everyone was having such a good time.
After the dinner, Sasuke brought Erza upstairs to show her his room while everyone else settled once again at the living room, chatting and discussing about the wedding.
"So, this is it," Sasuke said as Erza stepped inside, inspecting his spacious bedroom. She was the first girl to ever be in his room and he felt a little self conscious about it. He was a little relief that he cleaned up a bit yesterday.
"It's nice," Erza commented with a little smile on her face.
Sasuke smirked at her reply. "You don't have to say it's nice out of politeness, you know. You can say it straight out that it's a crap," he teased.
"No," she quickly countered. "I mean it when I say it's nice. It's comforting and homey, unlike what I originally thought of a guy's room," she said.
"What did you originally expect?" He asked out of curiosity.
"Messy," she replied back with a sheepish grin directed at him.
Sasuke snickered in return. "Well to tell you the truth, I did clean up a bit yesterday," he said lightly with a playful grin.
Erza rolled her eyes at him.
"I've been meaning to ask Sasuke, you did delete the photo of us kissing right?" She asked him expectantly.
Sasuke clutched at his heart dramatically. "I'm hurt to know that you think so little of me," he said with a mock hurt expression on his face.
"Oh please," Erza said with a snort as she punched his stomach playfully making him doubled over in laughter.
"Don't worry your pretty little head. I already delete the picture," he said with glee.
"And about you sleeping over at my house, let's not tell anybody about that," she suggested with a determined face. He could see that her face redden when she said that.
"Afraid your boyfriend will get mad at you or something." He knew that she didn't have any boyfriend for now. But the thought of her having one unsettled him.
"More like a little concern that those rabid fangirls of yours will skin me alive if they know about it," she easily said.
"They wouldn't even dare to lay hands on you," he said pointedly with a smirk.
"You don't know what a jealous fangirl can do when they are desperate," she countered. "And it will not do any good to your name and career. You need to avoid any unwanted scandal when you are at the height of your career," she advised.
"You don't have to worry about it," he assured her, a little touched that she gave a thought about him.
.
.
Erza glanced at the instrument leaning against the wall at the corner of his room with interest. "You play guitar?" She asked from where she was perching at the edge of his bed.
"Yeah," he drawled as he went and picked it up from the floor. "Don't have much time to play lately though," he said as he walked towards her and sat beside her on the bed.
"Come on, play something," she ushered with excitement.
"What do you want to hear?" He asked her in return.
"Anything," she said simply. She didn't mind any song that he played.
"Alright," he said. "You should be lucky that you're the first girl to hear me play and sing."
"Sing?" Erza can't help the Cheshire grin that formed on her face at the prospect of hearing Sasuke singing. She was excited about it. Erza crossed her leg as she propped her right elbows on her knees and rested her chin on her palm watching Sasuke as he played the guitar.
"If I had my way, I'd spent every day right by your side…"
Erza smiled as the first verse of the song came out of his lips. Sasuke did have many hidden talents that he was so good at. Playing guitar and singing, she wondered if there was anything that he was not good at.
She can see why he had so many admirers and fangirls. He was practically the perfect guy. The boyfriend material. His future girlfriend was going to be very lucky to have him by her side. That sent an unexpected twinge to her heart, but she pushed it away as she paid him her complete attention. His voice was beautiful and the song was also beautiful. She was lost in the deep meaning of the song and his voice.
"I'd die every day that you're away from me…"
And just like that, the song ended.
"That was amazing," she praised him.
"Nah, it's nothing," he brushed it off but Erza can see the blush forming on his face. She can't help but grinning at the obviously embarrassed man sitting in front of her.
"No really, you are amazing," she complimented him once again. "I bet you'll go far if you record an album. And coupled with your modeling career, it's bound to be a hit."
He chuckled at her enthusiasm. "I don't think so, I barely have any life with being a model alone," he pointed out.
Erza only nodded in return. He was right about that.
"Let's go downstairs," he said. "I bet they are wondering about us right now."
"Sure," Erza replied as he let Sasuke led her out of his room.
.
.
Sasuke ended up offering to take Erza home when Itachi had to take Faith to the airport after she received an emergency call from the school she worked at. She needed to catch the earliest plane ride she can find.
"Thanks for taking me home," Erza said in the silence of the car as Sasuke drove away from his house.
"Don't mention it," he brushed it off. "Oh by the way, a friend of mine lives across your door, I just find out today."
"Really?" Erza exclaimed. "That silver haired dude is your friend?" She said remembering her neighbor. They never talked but she did saw him once or twice when he came home.
"Yeah his name is Kakashi. He is one of my best friend and sort of my mentor in the modeling business."
"He's a model too then I assume," Erza tried a guess.
"Yeah, and sort of a photographer. He's a talented guy," Sasuke praised his mentor. Erza can hear the respect in his tone. "He thought you are Itachi's fiancée apparently," Sasuke supplied.
Erza burst out laughing when she heard that.
"What?" Sasuke asked her with a smile and raised eyebrow.
Erza glanced at him with mischief. "About that. You should see the look on your face when you saw me at your house back then," she said before she was cackling with laughter again.
"Shut up," Sasuke told her with a playful scowl on his face.
"But the look on your face back then was funny," Erza said with a smirk on her face. Sasuke can only scowl grudgingly at her. He sure did an embarrassment out of himself with the misunderstanding. If only he can turn back the time and re-live those moments.
"So here we are," Sasuke muttered as he turned the corner towards her apartment. Erza waved at Mr. Kobayashi, the guard on duty for tonight. Having recognized her face, Mr. Kobayashi let the car inside through the entryway.
Sasuke stopped his car near the building.
"So…," Erza uttered while looking at him with a smile. "Thanks again for the ride home," she said.
"No sweat," Sasuke said with a grin. "I guess I'll see you at school."
Erza nodded. "Good night Sasuke."
"Good night Erza," Sasuke replied.
Erza get out of the door and gave him a small wave before she walked towards the lift.
Sasuke only chuckled in amusement before he put the gear on reverse and drove away still with the smile on his face.
Unfortunately, both of them didn't notice that outside of the gate, a black car drove away after snapping a couple of pictures in their direction.

A/N: I don't own Faith from Buffy: The Vampire Slayer and the song Without You by My Darkest Days. I'm not sure if readers of this story is familiar with character Faith from BtVS but if you don't, don't worry because she's just a minor character in this story so she's only going to appear once in a while.
I hope you guys enjoy this chapter. Until next time =)
