Starship Warriors

I gently placed the last satchel charge and set it for remote detonation. From my experiences explosive training back in camp, I knew that the satchels we deployed were enough to blow the entire pile of orbs to the sky, but sadly not powerful enough to blow the entire cavern and the ceiling. Too bad, if they were powerful enough they might just be able to blow as an exit out of here and give as a hole back to the surface. Well we could always find another way out. How big can this tunnel system be? I would later find out that the tunnel system run through almost two-thirds of the entire planet. I looked to my left and saw Goldfur placing his last satchel charge before setting it. I then looked to my left to see Skycloud, who already finished his job in placing the charges, who was poking at the orbs once more. I gave a long sigh before shaking my head and padding over to Goldfur who was now finish and was inspecting our work.

"Well looks like we are ready." I said as I stood next to him. "Do you think this wil work?"

"Of course it will work." He said proudly. "This is enough explosives to blow up a covert, so I'm pretty sure it will have no trouble blowing this place apart."

"Well that means we need to get as far as possible from this place."

"Not too far…" Skycloud, who was now done playing around, said as he approached us. "I want to be able to see this place blow up. It will just be like New Year's Eve."

Goldfur shook his head at this. "Sorry to disappoint you, but a safe area from the explosion will be way out of visual range. Especially with all this tunnels blocking the line of sight, it will be hard to see it at all.

"Owwww…." Skycloud said sadly, but we all knew he wasn't serious.

"Alright…" Goldfur said. "…let's not wait here till the bugs arrive. We need to get away from here and blow this up as soon as possible." He then walked towards a tunnel and started walking in a fairly fast pace. We soon followed him and were soon getting farther and farther from the explosives.

We soon stopped and looked behind us. "I think we're far enough." I said as I sat down. Beside me Skycloud did the same while Goldfur just stoof there nodding.

"Alright…" He said. "…I got master control, right?"

I nodded.

Earlier we gave Goldfur master control over all the explosives so that we didn't have to press them all at the same time. So at his command the explosives we place would explode all at the same time creating an explosion that we hope would destroy the nursery and the eggs.

"What are you waiting for I want to hear the gigantic boom it makes." Skycloud said as he jumped around.

"Alright, here goes nothing." Goldfur said. There was a short pause and I knew that it was because he was activating the explosives. Soon there was a large explosion that shook the ground around us as the satchel charges exploded as the same time. Bits of rock started falling from the roof a for a second I thought it would collapse, but luckily it didn't.

"Whoooooooo…!" Skycloud cheered. "There goes that nursery."

"Yeah…" I said agreeing. "…less bugs for us to deal with."

But our celebration was quickly stopped when a second more powerful explosion shook the ground. The sound of the explosion rung across the tunnel and it hurt my ears. It was like someone shoved my head inside a bell and strikes it. Soon big chunks of rock started to fall as I saw a bright light coming our way.

"I think we should run." Skycloud said before racing away from the light, which we would later learn was a fireball.

"For once I agree with him." I said before racing of before being followed by Goldfur.

"What just happened?" He asked as he catches up to me.

"I don't know…" I replied. "…but I'm getting really sick with all this running. I think I've been running all day." Not that I wasn't use to long combat missions. It was just that when we went to long distances we usually used our jets to make giant leaps or 'jumps' as we call it.

"Just keep running if you want to stay alive!" He yelled. So I did what he told me, as if I had anything else to do.

The fireball could be detected by the radar as a line that got closer and closer to us. I was frightened when I saw it getting closer and was even more frightened to see the tunnel collapsing on the radar. But just as abruptly as it started it suddenly stopped and a short burst of heat covered us. The heat didn't hurt us at all but it did slightly push as causing as to fall on to the ground. I could hear the rocks falling down and knew it was probably because the tunnel collapsed and blocked the path behind us.

But I was shocked to see a large O shape open area on my radar screen. Curios I decided to stand up and check it out and were even more surprised at what I saw. Behind me, were a tunnel lay only moments ago, was a gigantic open area that led back up to the surface. I looked down to see that it was really deep and probably reached to the bottom of the planet. I then realized that we somehow created a crater with the explosives we used. But how was that possible? We only used satchel charges and I doubt that was enough to cause that

I would later learn that it wasn't the satchel charges that caused this, but they did contribute in creating the large explosion. Apparently, military Intelligence discovered that the nursery floor radiated heat to keep the eggs warm. The heat was provided by some sort of liquid like substance, created by the Queens, which was placed under the floor. This substance proved to be highly unstable and explosive, so it would be no surprise that it exploded when the charges blew up.

"Ummm….what happened to the tunnel?" Skycloud asked looking at the crater.

"Who cares…" Goldfur said pointing his tail to the sky above. "…we finally found a way out." He then jumped off of the edge from where we were standing and activated his jets to fly back to the surface. With any luck we should have enough juice for the jets to get us back to the surface.

I quickly followed suit, wanting to get out of the tunnels as fast as I can. As I flew towards the open end I noticed how big the crater really was. The crater was bigger than it looked lie from our previous position and it looked like it could have fit a corvette.

I looked on my radar and saw Skycloud behind me, but I also saw more dots appearing. So I looked around and noticed more cats in suits popping out of some tunnels, which were cut off because of the crater, and jumping of before activating their jets to fly off towards the surface. They were probably attracted by the sound of the explosion and raced to check out what it was. I just hoped no warrior was hurt because of that blast.

As I neared the surface I could see more and more dots appearing. The sight made me smile, for I knew I helped them get out of this nightmare.
