Chapter 13

IMPORTANT NOTE: Remains is now a trilogy! (Yas!) The second one is called: Remains, Back Again. And the third and final one is called: Remains, The Last Target. Dun dun DUN! Anyway here is chapter 13!

Clary was the first to break the silence. "It's not that bad really." she said calmly. Everyone looked at her. Jace grabbed her shoulders and turned her around to face him. "Not that bad? Clary.. this guy is threatening your life!" Clary took his arms of her shoulders. "Yes, but haven't I already been shot at and had my office explode? This shouldn't be much of a surprise!"

Jace looked down at his shoes then back up at Clary. "Yes, but this guys also set off a bomb in your office, set half the Institute on fire and nearly killed Sebastian. Just to give you this message." Clary looked up to meet his eyes. She knew what he was saying was true, the only reason she was calm is so it wouldn't get in her way of finding who did this. Iz knew where this was going, and since it was getting late, she gestured for Alec, Magnus and Simon to follow her into the other room.

Clary crossed her arms. "Why is this such a big deal for you?" she said, annoyed. "For an FBI agent you should be used to this kind of stuff! People get shot, people blow things up, people murder, people make threats, why can't you relax?!" She yelled. Jace turned around and ran a hand through his hair. "Why is this such a problem?!" she yelled again. Jace whipped around to face her. "Because I care about you okay?!" Clary was silenced by his outburst and stood there in silence. "And if someone threatens you, I get scared that something will happen to you and I won't be there! If something were to happen to you, I-I just couldn't live with myself!"

Isabelle, who had been watching the whole thing alongside Magnus, Alec and Simon were astounded. Alec most of all since he knew Jace better than any of them. Jace, admitting he's scared, was completely unheard of. Jace took a breath and sat down on the couch and put his hands in his hair. "Sorry," he mumbled. Clary managed to break out of her daze and sat down next to him. "That was stupid," he mumbled looking at his shoes once again. "It's fine. You're right." she said looking down at her hands. "I don't take these situations as serious as I should. I mean, I've survived earthquakes, volcanoes, angry guatemalans and a really grumpy homeland security agent." she said with a small chuckle. Jace smiled as well, remembering when they first met. "Yet I can't solve a simple murder without getting myself or the people I care about killed."

"Well," Jace said looking over at her. "You've been fine so far." Clary looked at him. Her eyes were glassy but she didn't let her tears fall. "No," she said. "If you weren't there I wouldn't be sitting here having this conversation with you right now." Jace turned to face her. "You know that isn't tru-" "Yes, it is." She interrupted. "If you hadn't pushed me out of the way when I was shot at, I would have bled to death on that lawn. And today, if you didn't come inside after me Sebastian would have bled out and I probably would have choked to death before anyone could get there."Clary couldn't fight it and tears rolled down her cheeks. She hadn't cried like this since her brother and parents left. She was actually sobbing. Jace pulled her towards him and she cried into his shoulder.

It was 8:30 in the morning when Jace woke up. He could hear small talk coming from the kitchen, which he knew must've been Simon and Isabelle because Magnus and Alec left last night. He looked down to see Clary, curled up against him, with her head on his chest, just as he left her last night. He lifted his arm and rubbed few circles lightly on her back and she snuggled closer to him. He smiled. How did he ever manage to find someone as amazing as her? He rustled her frizzy red curls trying to wake her. "Clary," he said quietly. Clary opened her eyes slightly, smiled up at Jace and closed her eyes again. "Clary, you have to get up now." He sait rustling her hair again. She groaned, flicking his hand away and sniggled into him again. "Five more minutes.." she said quietly. "No." Jace said shifting his weight. "You've gotta get up now."

Clary just groaned and snuggled into him more. Jace stood up and Clary fell off him, onto the couch with a light thud. "Ugh," she said, putting a pillow over her head. Jace sighed and walked into the kitchen, where Isabelle and Simon had been watching. "Do whatever you have to do to get her up." He whispered before pouring a cup of coffee. Simon smiled. "With pleasure." he said pulling out his phone.

He silently walked around to the back side of the couch, raised his phone, which had an sound app with an air horn on it, and clicked it. The sound of the air horn filled the house. Clary jumped up and fell off the couch with a thud. SHe then jumped up onto her hands and knees, her hair in her face, looking for where the sound came from. Jace and Iz were in the doorway to the kitchen, laughing their heads off along with Simon, who was still holding the phone in the air. Thankfully the sound stopped and Clary could actually think straight. She looked up at Simon and her expression darkened. "Simon, I will kill you." she said getting up off the floor and chasing Simon around the room.

"No time!" Jace called to her. She stopped and walked up to him and he turned to face her. She punched him hard in the shoulder, wincing as her healing bullet wound protested the movement. She turned to face Jace, who had two cups of coffee in his hands. "We've got a murderer to catch."

Tada! Update number, what? 4? In the last three days? That's pretty good considering I've kept you waiting almost a month for one before. I managed to squeeze a little Clace fluff in there! Sizzy and maybe some Malec is still to come! So hang on, enjoy and (as always) EAT CUPCAKES!
