"What's with these damn things", Inuyasha said after cutting down another of the birds of paradise. On their way to the wolves' den a flock of weird looking demon's that had the upper body of a humanoid while the lower half was some sort of bird monster, flew down and started attacking them. The two wolves he had tied up started panicking, but Inuyasha easily sliced through them with his sword. He didn't want to waste his magic on the small fry.
"Look there's more of them", Shippou shouted as three came charging from the back. Sango quickly took care of them with her weapon while Inuyasha was busy covering the front.
"It's the two wolves they're after not us", Miroku said when he realized these bird creatures kept trying to attack Ginta and Hakaku.
"We should probably just hand them over", Inuyasha spoke rather coldly, the two demon started panicking and thrashing around again. The half demon snapped his fingers and the chains binding the two disappeared freeing them. "Get out of here; go back to your den".
"But what about", Ginta looked at him curiously.
"It's your leader I want to kill not you, so go home and tell him I'm coming for him", when they left Inuyasha drew a white circle with his magic in the air and used his Ira in Caelum spell to fire white magical spears from the sky piercing each of the birds of paradise. When they were all dead the half demon examined the sky to see that what attacked them was just a small group, the entire flock was headed somewhere else.
"So we keep going I assume?", the monk said.
"Yeah the rest of these birds are going up the mountain…right…where KAGOME IS!" and with that he took off as fast as he could in the direction the birds were converging on. The group followed on Kilala, Inuyasha wasn't even paying attention to them nor did he hear Miroku trying to grope Sango from behind or the slap that followed.
Kagome was trying to help Koga by convincing him to let her go. He refused of course saying that he had already gone this far, so he might as well proceed as planned.
"Just let me leave and maybe I can convince Inuyasha to not kill you and perhaps help", she pleaded.
"Sorry, but at this point my hands are tied here", he said apologetically. It was true that Koga couldn't let her leave now because of the situation with the birds of paradise was getting worse, but also he found himself fascinated by Kagome and didn't want to let her go just yet.
"Sir we have a problem!" one of the wolf demons came in frantically clutching a spear.
"What is it?"
"The birds of paradise they're on their way here sir!"
"So what we can repel another attack", Koga said confidently smirking.
"There's more than usual this time", he still sounded alarmed.
"How many?"
"All of them sir!"
"Shit, prepare everyone for battle now!", Koga ran out of the cave telling the guard to keep an eye on the cat girl. She didn't like it, but she decided that Inuyasha would be here soon any way.
Outside the wolf demons had their spears and swords ready for the birds of paradise. For a moment all was quiet, too quiet, and then suddenly the winged creatures descended from the clouds, swooping down to attack the wolves. Pure chaos, Koga struggled to take down the birds while trying to keep his brethren safe, but the birds of paradise were throwing everything at them now. This wasn't a war anymore, just a fight for survival.
Inside with all the wolf demon warriors outside fighting and the noncombatants hiding, the caves were very empty, making it easy for Inuyasha to slip inside and sneak around. It didn't take him long to find where they were keeping Kagome, the guard watching her didn't even slow him down. He just knocked him out and proceeded into the room. Inuyasha was greeted by a surprise hug from his dear Kagome, he was just happy that she looked unharmed, though the smell of wolf on her really pissed him off.
"You alright Kagome?" he asked nuzzling her head between her cat ears.
"I'm fine", she assured him purring at the affection.
"Good let's go", he grabbed her hand to leave, but she stopped him.
"But wait the wolf demons they-"
"I know what they wanted of me, and my answer is no. They can die for all I care!" he made to leave with her again, but she let go of his hand and stood in front of him with her hands on his chest.
"Please, I know what the leader did was stupid, but he's not a bad guy, so please!" she begged.
"The answer is no Kagome!"
"Please?" she begged giving him the sad kitty eyes.
"Fine!" he grumbled not happy with the situation at all, "However when I'm done I get to kill the leader myself, and that's final!" Inuyasha stormed his way outside to the battle field with Kagome trailing behind him.
"Okay fine", she said trying to figure out a way to save Koga's life when this was over, so far nothing came to mind.
Back outside the wolves were struggling to stay alive. Koga found himself surrounded by the bird creatures and just when one was about to swoop in at him a fire ball struck it down. Inuyasha had fire blasted the bird about to attack the wolf leader, he would be the one to kill him not some overgrown pigeon.
Koga looked over to see the half demon glaring daggers at him, being the proud wolf demon he was and not one to cower in the face of a challenger he glared back. Inuyasha just sneered at him then turned away to deal with rest of the birds. Koga was surprised to see the half demon actually fighting the birds of paradise and thought that his plan had actually worked, and here he thought it would all backfire.
"Fulgure Cuspis!", Inuyasha held both hands parallel while lightning charged between them, a single lightning bolt connected his palms. While the electricity surged in his hands he fired it from both appendages repeatedly, frying one bird after the other. A flock of them descended from behind Inuyasha, but he sensed them coming and turned around to fire more lightning bolts at the oncoming attackers.
The birds still kept coming from the sky; the wolves continued to fight back and were slowly winning now that they had Inuyasha on their side. The half demon's powerful magic was easily mowing down the birds of paradise.
Inuyasha eventually realized that there was a larger demonic presence in the sky, larger than these birds and he knew that it must be the leader, so he began to ascend up the mountain side to get higher. Koga noticed that he was on to something and followed after him.
"Be careful Inuyasha!" Kagome called from the ground. Koga was envious that she was calling to that mutt and not him, so he a sped up, passing Inuyasha up the mountain.
"Idiot", the half demon mumbled to himself, he didn't bother to tell Koga that the presence was rapidly closing in and he would probably get himself killed rushing in like that. Just as he thought that a very large bird of paradise with two humanoid bodies on top of it came charging in barely missing the wolf demon.
"Look out Koga!" Kagome shouted. Inuyasha froze and stared down at her in disbelief that she would be worried over someone like that wolf. Down below Miroku and Sango arrived to help, mostly just Sango keeping the birds away from Kagome while the monk used his wind tunnel to suck up all the monsters, now all that was left was to take down the leader.
The leader of the wolf demon continued to battle the leader of the birds of paradise. In his head he wanted to impress Kagome, Inuyasha may have taken out a lot of the weaker ones, but if he could take down the strongest one that might win her over. Koga was trying to get a good shot at it, but being a creature that couldn't fly like his enemy made it difficult. Eventually the wolf was swatted down by one of the bird's huge wings; he crashed into the mountain side painfully.
Before he could get up Inuyasha appeared in front of him facing the oncoming monster. He held a small white rock in his fingers, bringing it close to his lips he whispered the words 'Sacred White Flame' before putting the stone in his mouth and swallowed it. The leader of the birds had no idea what was happening and still continued with its attack while Inuyasha took a deep breath, inhaling as much as he could. When the monster came in close enough the half demon exhaled all the air he took in, shooting extremely hot white fire from his mouth. Everyone watched mesmerized by the magical display even Koga. The creature screamed in pain as its wings were burned away by the sacred fire and it fell into the side of the mountain, now that it was injured and angry it tried to claw up the cliff side to get up to Inuyasha.
"Terrae Vi", Inuyasha said while stomping his foot. The mountain shook with a quaking force, dislodging some pieces and boulders around the bird of paradise. It went tumbling down the mountain along with the rubble coming to crash on the bottom and got crushed to death under the rocks.
Inuyasha dropped down to stand next to the pile of rocks and feathers to make sure it was dead. Koga followed and stood a few feet behind him impressed by the half demon's display of magical power.
"Damn nice work Inu-", Koga was cut off by a punch landing in his face knocking him back. Looking at his attacker he saw Inuyasha glaring at him with murder in his eyes.
"Now to finish the job, prepare to die!" he growled launching a fire ball at him.
"Whoa hold up a sec", Koga tried to talk to him while dodging the flaming projectiles. He quickly realized that trying to reason with him now would be pointless, so he decided to fight back. Koga rushed in and tried to kick him, but Inuyasha saw him coming and unsheathed his sword Tensaiga. Koga had to pull back narrowly dodging the huge blade that scraped his arm.
"Enough of this!" Inuyasha sheathed his sword and pointed two fingers at Koga and then raised his arm in the air.
"Simulacrum Lamina!", Inuyasha brought his fingers down in a slashing motion, from a distance a cut appeared on Koga's chest in the same pattern of the half demon's hand gesture, running from his left shoulder and going diagonal. The deep gash erupted in a splash of blood and the wolf demon collapsed from the pain of the invisible cut. Inuyasha slowly walked towards his fallen enemy and raised his hand to finish the job.
"Stop it!" Kagome shouted jumping in between them with her hands raised to shield the wolf leader.
"Move Kagome!" Inuyasha ordered her.
"No!"
"I said move!"
"No!"
"That guy you're protecting kidnapped and put you in danger, and you still want me to spare him!" Inuyasha was beyond furious and he was starting to think there might be something more going on between his Kagome and that wolf. He was fully prepared to the kill the bastard that dared touch what was his. He gently pushed the cat girl out of the way and pointed his claws towards the wolf using the same magic from the phantom cut spell.
The wolf screamed in pain as he felt the same magical wound start to slowly grow bigger and deeper. Inuyasha was going to keep his magic focused at him and use this spell to slice him in half. Suddenly a loud slapping sound echoed throughout the area. Miroku, Sango, Shippou and the rest of the wolf demon tribe watched as Kagome delivered a harsh slap across Inuyasha's face.
"Will you look at you self Inuyasha! You're better than this! So just stop it already", Kagome pleaded tears forming in her eyes.
"Kagome?" Inuyasha stopped the spell and looked at her.
"Please, I just don't want to see you like this, please", Kagome began to softly cry. Inuyasha looked over to the bleeding Koga on the ground then to the crying Kagome and suddenly felt like the biggest asshole in the land. He sighed and looked over to the wolf demons and noticed the two known as Ginta and Hakaku from earlier.
"You two get him out of here", He turned away from the injured leader.
"Us?" Ginta asked.
"Yes you two get him out of here now, he's injured and he'll die without help", he said pointing his thumb at Koga. The two wolf demons carefully helped their leader up and took him away, while the rest of the wolf demons left with them with one last terrified look at the half demon Inuyasha. Kagome stopped sobbing and wiped the tears away looking at Inuyasha who was being awfully quiet and staring off into space.
"Inuyasha?" Kagome looked at him then over at their group that was slowly approaching.
"Alright let's go", Inuyasha began walking like he hadn't heard her. The others tried talking to him, but he kept walking and stayed silent. They left the mountain area in silence, eventually they had to stop and make camp; Inuyasha nodded his head still not saying a word.
"Kagome have you tried to talk to him again?" Sango asked sitting next to Kagome around the fire. Inuyasha sat some distance from them turned away.
"I tried but he still won't talk", Kagome looked down sadly, cat ears dropping a little.
"Well I imagine he must be really upset", Miroku commented adding his two sense.
"How so?" Sango asked, not sure what she meant. In her perspective Inuyasha was acting immature right now, but it seemed the monk thought there was more to it.
"From what I saw Inuyasha was very scared when Kagome was taken from him again, he obviously loves her and as a man I can understand the desperation and abject rage to get back what's precious to him. By that I can't really blame him for why he acts like this. He goes to rescue Kagome and destroy the one who took her and she won't let him get that satisfaction and then he realizes how he's hurting her, so he feels completely torn", Kagome had heard enough and jumped up marching up to where Inuyasha silently sat. The others watched the girl stand behind him with her hands on her hips, thinking she was going to hit Inuyasha again. They were surprised to see that she embraced him from behind and buried her face in his white soft hair.
"Inuyasha I'm sorry I worried you", she whispered to him.
"It's alright", he was finally able to calm down enough to the point where he could think clearly. He was still mad at that wolf demon for taking his Kagome away from him, but he realized he didn't have to kill this guy over it.
"Inuyasha I just don't like seeing you so mad and hurting people like that", she explained to him that Koga may have kidnapped her, but he wasn't a bad guy and was just looking out for his tribe.
"So, there wasn't anything going on between you two?" Inuyasha asked hoping for assurance that she had not fallen for another.
"What! No!" Kagome looked almost offended that he would even ask that.
"That's good", he sounded very relieved.
"Inuyasha are you jealous?"
"Of course not!", he practically yelled without missing a beat.
"You are jealous", Kagome said accusingly.
"No I'm not"
"Yes you are", Kagome laughed as Inuyasha flushed embarrassed and looked away from her. Kagome continued to laugh as she walked around him and sat in his lap.
"You don't have to be jealous of Koga alright, he was nice and all, but your still the only one I love", to confirm this she grabbed his face with both hands and brought it down to her level to plant a kiss on his lips. Inuyasha was surprised and eventually his annoyance melted away as he started kissing her back. After that they just held each like they were back to normal.
Well that's that, or is it.
Don't worry Koga will be back. Since Kagome can't sit Inu she had to use her emotions to get him to not kill Koga.
To the person who asked if Kagome has a human night, she does not, but she will have something else that you won't see till much later.
Fulgure Cuspis means lightning lance, self-explanatory. Simulacrum Lamina means Phantom blade, it's an advanced spell that uses air and light to create a sort of invisible blade that cuts an enemy from a distance, it's also a little Easter egg to one of my other stories Arch Nemesis. Terrae Vi means earth force, basically causes mini earthquakes.
Next chapter I introduce Kikyo and it gets to be Kagome's turn to feel the little green monster of jealousy.
Until next time, thank you for reading.
