Look at me! I'm back! This is one of the chapters I've wanted to write for years! I have ideas from three years ago! I want to thank the people who have supported me. And I haven't done this in a while, but I will respond to some reviews.
CyanQuartz : Thank you, sir. You have been a great force in giving me the motivation to continue.
crymblade: Thank you for the commentary. And I assure you, that will not improve.
Blood-priced726: Thank you. Noted.
ABSOLUTE: Thank you for the kind words.
Now let's begin.
Chapter 13
A large noise broke me out of my peaceful slumber, causing me to instantly prepare myself for a battle. I leapt out of my bed, eyes scanning wildly for the first sign of danger. Unfortunately, in my quickness, I had completely forgotten the state of my injuries, and I crumpled to the ground in pain. I hissed in pain as my leg, once again, failed to hold up my weight. Doing all that jumping really messed it up.
And those kicks.
Those horrible, horrible kicks.
The noise? I looked around, before my eyes spotted my alarm clock. I stared at its beeping form for a few moments before I sighed in disappointment. I really was getting paranoid. I guess that was a good thing in some regards. I walked over to my alarm clock before shutting it off.
At least I could still do some things.
"What's with all the noise, kid?" Mega asked from my transer. I took a glance at him, before dismissing him.
"It's...nothing."
He would probably laugh at my overactive battle reflexes.
Mega looked perplexed, but he didn't press the issue. "Well kid, I have some good and bad news, depending on how you feel." That didn't sound too good. "That FM-ian has disappeared from the surrounding areas. Or at least I can't sense her anymore." I let out a sigh of relief at that. I'm not sure how long it would take me until I would be 100% again. "But there goes our good fight!" Mega whined. I shook my head before smacking my transer, eliciting a yelp of pain from Mega.
Typical Mega.
I walked downstairs, muttering a good morning to my Mom, when I suddenly noticed she wasn't here. My eyebrow raised in curiosity. She would usually be downstairs cooking at this time. I wonder what was up? Regardless, it was a weekend, so she was probably out at some sale.
A little note that she had left confirmed that theory.
I yawned, stretching my hands up in the air and rejuvenating my tired body, if only a little. So it was just me in the house then. I closed my eyes in annoyance. I never noticed before how overwhelming the silence of my house was. I grunted in annoyance. My living room was currently being lit by the sun; it wasn't late enough for the automatic lights to turn on. I preferred to sit in the shaded side of the room.
Getting up, I shook my head. I couldn't languish like this. I had to go do something. Taking an apple to snack on, I started walking out.
"Where you going, kid? Gonna go do something fun?" Mega asked with an excited tone. He was actually bouncing up and down with anticipation. Had he really been that eager to have a fight with that FM-ian? Whatever the thing was, Mega must have a big grudge against it.
"I'm going up to Vista Point," I replied, opening and closing my front door. "But you can do whatever you like. After all, you seem to do that anyway." Mega recoiled a bit at my harsh tone, but laughed heartily, causing me to sigh quietly. Things never change with this guy.
"Don't be like that kid! I always make it back in time for the fun!" I made a noise of amusement at that. In some ways, I guess that was true. "Speaking of fun, what's that over there?"
I looked over to where Mega was motioning to. There seemed to be a large gathering on the park across the street from my house. It must be the whole concert thing that those advertisements were describing. I smirked to myself. I sort of actually wanted to go. It would be interesting to see all of Sonia's fans disappointed by her absence. I had nothing better to do after all.
"Let's go check it out," I ordered, walking over to the park. There were a lot of familiar faces; a bunch of people from school had shown up. As expected of course. The whole lot of them were obsessed with Sonia.
How pathetic.
I abruptly heard large footsteps, and I quickly jumped away from my present location, which was mobbed by a group of two boys. My legs buckled again, and I fell to a kneeling position, grabbing my leg in pain. I squinted as I wrapped my right hand around my ankle.
When would I stop doing that?
These battle reflexes will cause the death of me someday.
"Mr. Stelar! Look at what you have done to yourself!" A shrill voice rang out, causing me to grunt in exasperation. When would these guys just leave me alone?! I heard sharp footsteps as a skinny shadow passed over me. I looked up to see the bright blue uniform of the 'Prez'. She grabbed the collar of my shirt. "You shouldn't have tried such strenuous activities Mr. Stelar! Now look at what you've done!" Luna pointed towards my ankle, which I was gently cradling.
I growled. She didn't know anything about it!
"We should go get you patched up by the school nurse," Luna chided, looking at me with a superior attitude. The smirk on her face made my knuckles turn white. Why did she insist on playing this game? I left her alone, why doesn't she do the same?! Luna continued with her pretentious tone, "Look at your legs! You shouldn't have moved so quickly. Your tripping could have been avoided!"
She thought I had tripped?
Well that's better than having her question why there were bruises all over my body. I had covered some of them up, but the ones on my legs remained. The less questions, the better. I narrowed my eyes at the blonde girl who was calling over her goons.
Especially from her.
"Woah man, I didn't know falling could hurt you that badly," The big one remarked, a dull expression on his face. I bet he didn't even know that he was the one who caused me to jump away in the first place!
The other one asserted, "I do believe that you should go see a doctor, Mr. Stelar."
Hmph, tell me something I don't know.
I turned away, and got up shakily. "Leave me alone," I ordered firmly, watching the expressions on the kids' faces. They all got angry.
"Treat the Prez with some respect, or I'll make you!" The fat one yelled, spitting as he talked. We had already tried this before...but I'd be happy to teach him another lesson. Although...I looked down at my body. In my current state, I wasn't sure if I could take on anyone, even someone as weak as this guy.
The girl just huffed, stomping her foot down.
And the midget?
"Are you going to the Sonia Strumm concert, Geo?" He asked. I closed my eyes in dismissal. So it seemed that one of them had some sense. Still, I wasn't going to dignify him with an answer.
Standing straight, I forced my body to deal with the pain as I started to walk away. I was really surprised they even let me do that; normally they wouldn't take anything buy a yes. It seemed that they were also going to Sonia's concert. Some footsteps clacked behind me. I frowned slightly as I took a quick look back.
Looks like I was wrong. They wouldn't leave me alone.
"Since you are going to the concert as well, Mr. Stelar, I think it would be nice if we all went as a group," Luna stated diplomatically. What happened to going to the nurse? These guys...they all had their own agendas.
"Whatever," I muttered. I was in a bad mood. Every movement I made led to more pain, and other people just wouldn't leave me alone! What could I do in this situation? My transer screen popped up slightly, and I could see Mega guffawing. I growled, anger growing.
The world was against me today.
I opened my eyes slightly as I heard a roar of screams echo across the park. I sighed, shaking my head.
Like idol, like fan.
The crowd was absolutely huge. There were at least a hundred people! And they were all centered around this big stage, of which half was covered by a dark pink drapes. Taking a look around, my eyes widened as I saw a pink figure lift up its hands.
My hands instantly went to my transer, readying myself for a wave change. But then the figure put its hands down, and further evaluation revealed it to be some tall guy with a pink shirt. I sighed in relief, before removing my hand from my transer. I was really getting paranoid. I guess that last encounter really shook me up, though it was pitiful to admit that.
I gazed in the sea of pink shirts.
Wait.
Pink?
Every single person at the concert was wearing a pink shirt, with Sonia's face plastered all over it! What kind of madness was this?! I coughed in alarm as I looked to my side. The three kids...all of them had managed to change into a pink shirt in the few minutes I ignored them?! They seemed to be absorbed in the crowd, as they started chanting.
"Come on out, Sonia!" The fat one yelled, jumping up and down in excitement. I grimaced at his completely brainwashed expression. The short one was doing almost the exact same thing, but his voice was much higher pitched and squeakier!
I winced and moved away from the two. How come all the people my age are so loud?!
The blonde haired girl next to them sighed, before giving a smirk at the boys' antics. Can't believe I'm saying it, but at least Luna had some class. She was standing there with her arms folded. It seems that there was someone else who wasn't obsessed with Sonia too. I grimaced after taking a look at Luna's pink shirt.
She did, however, need some lessons in fashion.
I snapped as a loud pitch whine rang, turning my head to the source almost instantly.
Only to see Luna...pull out a speakerphone?!
The girl started blaring, "SONIA! SONIA! SONIA!"
What was she doing?!
The rest of the crowd seemed to respond to Luna's speakerphone, raising their own volume, making a cacophonous concoction of screams and cheers. What kind of person in their right mind would join this chant? What kind of person in their right mind would even be here?!
Out of everyone, I was probably the only one who wasn't going to have a sore throat the next day.
An even louder mechanical screech rang out, as the an announcer voice encouraged, "LET'S HEAR THOSE SCREAMS FOR...SONIA STRUMM!"
"Yo," I heard from my wrist, as my transer screen popped up a little bit to reveal Mega. His eye furrowed in annoyance as he harshly whispered, "Can't you make those guys knock it off? Why are they so obsessed with that Sonia girl of yours anyway?"
"How should I know?" I shrugged, looking up at the stage impassively. "Not like I was ever interested in this kind of stuff in the first place." This was all just a way to waste time.
A light switch flipped, resonating across the entire park, and bright lights started to flail about the pink drapes, before finally centering on the middle of the stage. Fog started to roll in...and I could hear the whole entire stadium take a dramatic gasp.
I let out a sigh.
The three kids around me hushed up, and were looking at the stage with frantic eyes. I rolled my eyes at that. Have the kids never been to a concert before? They don't have to make it seem like it's a big deal.
"Kid, let's ditch this place. We can go back to that tech place, I'm sure they'll have something fun to do there!" Mega impatiently goaded, trying to persuade me to leave. I shushed him with a finger. I was actually sort of interested to see what was going to happen. After seeing the excitement the crowd had for Sonia's concert, I wanted to see their disappointment when she wouldn't show up.
The drapes opened.
A figure walked out from backstage, but nobody could see what was happening because of the fog. The whole audience was on the edge of their imaginary seats. Some people were even biting their nails out feverishly out of anxiety.
I was interested to see if that was really Sonia... I didn't think she would be able to sing after what happened yesterday. Taking a close look at the shaded figure, it seemed to match Sonia's height pretty well...Could the manager somehow have found someone who looks identical to Sonia or something?
He could just be pulling some lip-sync trick.
Wouldn't be beneath him after all.
As the fog refused to dissipate, the crowd started to get annoyed. It began chanting again, and once more, my ears were filled with the screams. Talk about bi-polar. What a crazy audience. How would one even live with this kind of fanbase?
My eyes sharpened as I saw the fog start to disappear. The crowd had noticed too, because it again, took a histrionic breath. I let out a noise of exasperation. These guys...what were they doing with their lives?
My one question.
Was this concert really that important?
People started cheering abruptly, like thunder in a storm as they applauded some girl on stage. "SONIA! SONIA! SONIA!" Everyone around me started jumping, and I struggled to see past their towering figures.
But someone cried, "That's not Sonia Strumm!".
The whole mob stopped simultaneously in shock as they observed the figure. The people around me stopped jumping, so I got a good look in too...I must have been one of the farthest people from the stage, so it was pretty hard to make out what the girl looked like.
She was wearing an excessive amount of pink; I could say that for certain.
I shrugged. The girl didn't seem that different from Sonia. Only she would be crazy enough to wear that much pink. My eyes swept the crowd. Or one of her crazy fans.
The girl on stage brought up one arm, and pulled a guitar from behind her back, placing her hand on the strings.
And strummed.
Then the screaming began.
A gust of wind, a shockwave of energy, and a flood of screaming emanated from the stage with just that one strum! What was happening?! A huge wind assaulted my face, causing me to immediately dig my feet into the ground, preventing me from moving. Unfortunately for the rest of the crowd, they didn't have the prescience to do the same. All around me, people started to randomly fall over from the winds, and I put my bruised arms up to cover my face.
I didn't know what was happening, but I did know one thing.
This was going to hurt.
"Hit the deck kid!"
My left arm tugged, and I was drifting...before I hit the ground hard.
I closed my eyes, getting ready for the pain of a tornado. If the wind was strong enough to knock over grown men, I didn't stand a chance! I was surprised to say, aside from the initial impact of the ground, I didn't sustain any other injury. The wind brushed violently against my back, and I heard large thumps around me, but I wasn't hurt at all.
Aside from my previous injuries of course.
In a couple seconds, the winds had died down, and I cautiously looked up from my hiding place, taking a peek through barely open arms.
I was shocked.
The wind was so great that grass lifted up from its roots, and in the area where the stage used to be, there was no grass at all! There were bodies strewn...everywhere. There were bodies on top of bodies! It was like a form of mass burial. Had the winds really been that strong to knock out everyone!
My eyes widened at the sight. What was going on?!
All that had happened cause some girl played her guitar?!
I got up slowly, and walked to the nearest guy, kicking him slightly with my shoe. The man groaned, causing me to sigh in relief. They all seemed to be alive; that energy wave only injured them. It looked like everyone was OK.
Besides me, there was only one other person in the park still standing.
And that was the fat guy.
I looked at him in confusion. How could anyone resist such strong winds like that? He was just looking blankly in some random direction. Upon closer inspection, I grimaced at the beating he had taken. It seemed he had gotten messed up in the debris from the energy wave. I didn't really want to talk to him, but he was probably the one to ask about the situation.
"What happened." I ordered seriously, walking over to him, making sure to avoid stepping on others.
The guy only groaned, mumbling something incomprehensible. My face contorted in annoyance, before I let out a sigh of concession. The guy was broken. There was no way I would be able to get anything out of him. The fact he could still stand after that beating was incredible in its own right.
"ehin..."
My ears twitched as I leaned in closer to the guy. He was breathing hard, trying to say something, but he was speaking too softly!
"ien...yu..."
"What?" I replied, getting annoyed at the fat guy's failed attempts at articulation.
"He's saying, behind you!" A gruff voice yelled, as my arm moved on its own, grabbing Bud's body and pushing it in front of my own.
I didn't even know I had the strength to do that!
What was Mega trying to pull!
An instant later, I heard a loud thud, before Bud slumped to the ground, knocked out cold. My eyes widened as my arm once again took control of my body. I started maneuvering around, weaving through unconscious bodies, seemingly dodging invisible forces.
Invisible?
My Visualizer!
While moving, I slipped my glasses on, and everything became clear. Like I thought, Mega was making me dodge...music notes? There were music notes flying towards me! My body swerved to the right, barely avoiding a hostile music note, and I actually jumped over one. The two notes collided with the ground, disintegrating into tiny particles.
I wonder what would happen if it hit a human target?
"Hey man why you runni- urp!"
I sprinted past an unfortunate pedestrian who had apparently left the concert to get some drinks. He fell to the ground unconscious.
I shivered.
That was bad news...
I took a look behind me. The music notes were getting closer...
"Mega, let's wavechange!" I yelled desperately as a music note almost hit me. It was getting harder and harder to dodge, and I could feel my adrenaline wearing off...My body would collapse soon!
"Alright ki-"
A figure landed in front of me. I stopped right in my tracks, as I stared at the thing.
It was pink.
Seems this concert really was important.
My eyes widened as I took in the humanoid's figure. It had blonde hair, and everything else about it was pink. But it seemed familiar...
"Geo," The figure ordered, its voice high-pitched but authoritative. The thing found me after all, huh. I recognized it as the same thing from WAZA, except this time, its eyes seemed to be clear. Wait a minute...It knew my name? How did it know my name?
"Hand over the Andromeda Key, and I won't hurt you," The thing ordered. I gritted my teeth and balled up my fists. Why are these people so obsessed with the key?!
But that voice...
Wait that voice!
"Sonia?" I asked in confusion. How could this thing possibly be Sonia? Sonia had red hair! But their voices are completely the same!
The thing flinched, and I knew it was Sonia.
"My name is Harp Note," Sonia responded evenly, her voice almost monotone. "Now hand over the Andromeda Key, or I will hurt you." My eyes narrowed. This was definitely Sonia, but something had happened to her.
Something bad.
The fact she knew about the Andromeda Key only meant one thing. She had been talking to FM-ians, hadn't she? Taking confidence in the fact that I knew her, I asserted, "Sonia, take off the costume, and stop all this madness."
That...only seemed to irritate her.
The air was infused with tension as she whispered, "How come everyone else always gets what they want? How come nobody else listens to what I want?" My eyes narrowed as I took a step back. Sonia balled her fists, and her eyes were darkening. What...what was happening? Sonia gritted, "I don't want to write anymore, I don't want to sing anymore! I don't I DON'T I DON'T!"
I jumped back as music notes exploded out of Sonia, flying out in random directions.
A familiar blue aura surrounded me as I jumped backwards. I did a quick back-flip, now looking through a red visor. I was really getting better at wavechanging. I snapped back to reality. Onto more important matters...I focused on Sonia, who was seething with enmity. I had never seen the girl so angry before!
"Kid, this FM-ian...she's a weak one, but she manipulates well. Another thing...This girl must have had a lot of repressed anger to be this powerful. Keep your guard up," Mega warned. Even Mega, the usually cocky and arrogant one, was on edge with Sonia.
What...what was she?
Sonia stared at me with a cold look in her eyes, before her gaze softened slightly. "Geo, I don't want to hurt you." She pleaded, "Please, just give me the Andromeda Key and I won't have to hurt you."
I stared back for a while, looking at her. She had changed...how did she change so much? I had just seen her yesterday! Was..was she always like this? I shook my head. "What about the others?" I questioned assertively. "Will you leave them alone too?" She had deliberately hurt her crowd. That much was obvious to me.
"Not hurt the others..." Sonia muttered, and my face froze up. I didn't like that tone. Sonia's face twisted from pleading to downright malevolent. A cruel smirk spread across her face. "Not hurt the people who disrespect my work...Not hurt the people who pay that man...Not hurt the people who abuse my Mama's memories...Not hurt the people WHO RUINED MY LIFE!"
I prepared myself after Sonia's outburst.
I take it, that's a no.
"I'll make them pay..." Sonia muttered. "Everything...single...last one of them."
Her eyes turned to me.
"Don't get in my way."
I love cliffhangers.
