Max and the Instruments

Chapter 14

The truth? I'd been having those weird flashes for a while. They started before we returned to New York, maybe a couple months back. Each time, a new image was there, or maybe some of the symbols would change, but for the most part, they were the same.

There was always the darkness, the symbols (runes, as I would learn to call them) that screamed of immense power, and a shadow of a tall, well-built man that made me want to rip his throat out. This time, the location was slightly different. I felt like I should know where he was; it seemed so familiar.

Years of being on the run for our lives has left me with this habit of not sleeping in unknown situations. Because of that, I wasn't able to fall asleep until Iggy knocked lightly on the wall, a light rhythm, so that I would know he was on watch. I yawned as I tapped back, then I noticed the time: 3 am. Better than last night, but something told me it still wouldn't do much for sleeping.

And you know? Sometimes, I really hate being right.

Darkness encompassed me when I closed my eyes. Now, before you go all smart-ass on me and say "Duh, Max, that's what happens when you close your eyes," this darkness wasn't normal darkness. I've been in an isolation tank before, and this was slightly similar to that. Only slightly though, since I could still feel my wings, the cold bricks they brushed against and the uneven stones beneath my feet.

We'd also gone further underground than the sewers of New York City, and this was also similar, but even there I could tell more of my surroundings. Here I couldn't hear or see much at all.

As Adrenaline pumped into my veins, more than saw or heard, I felt a massive presence before me. As I concentrated, it lumbered away from me, down an unseen path. It flickered momentarily, and then I was awake, with my heart pounding like I'd just run a marathon.

I sat up, groaned, and rolled over, doing a head count and rolling my shoulders to try and relieve some of the left over tension.

Angel, Nudge, Me. All Here.

I moved over to the wall, sat down and leaned my head against the wall. Through the window on the wall, the sky was dark, but you could tell the sun would rise soon, I'd guess half an hour till daybreak.

I glanced at my watch. 5:45. Great. Nearly 3 full hours of sleep.

AN:

Whew boy. I'd nearly forgotten about this chapter. xD Let me know what you think.

ALSO: it's just one week till Christmas! To any of my readers who don't celebrate Christmas, I hope you have a merry one anyway, and a happy holiday season. I'm mainly excited cause I absolutely love giving my family presents and seeing their smiles. ^_^ After all, the reason for Christmas is to celebrate the greatest gift of all, right?

This chapter goes out to RangerApprentice21, for his reminder for me to update.

Until next time,
