Chapter 14:Carlisle's POV:
It was 3:00 on a Friday afternoon. I sighed happily. Only one more hour till I get to go home and see my newly adopted daughter Sophie.
I was planning on taking her out for a picnic on Saturday. The poor child has been cooped up in the house since she has come to live with us. I thought she deserved to get some fresh air.
"Thinking about Sophie?" Edward asked me.
"Yes, I was thinking of taking her out on a picnic tomorrow. Would Bella be okay with it just being the two of us?" I asked.
"Of course she would. I think a picnic is a wonderful idea. Sophie needs some fun." Edward said.
"Wonderful." I said.
"Do you know where you want to take her?" Edward asked.
I nodded my head. "I am going to take her to the lake that is by our house. It's beautiful and I think Sophie will love it. She can pick all the flowers to."
"Sounds like it will be a great day." Edward said.
For the first time, I noticed that Edward had a stack of folders in his hands. It never ends.
"We can get started on it, save the rest for tonight." Edward suggested.
"Might as well get started on it, we have fifty more minutes." I sighed.
Edward and I had set to start on the papers.
Time must have flown by because the next thing I knew, it was 4:00. Edward and I had gathered the files and placed them in my briefcase, ready to work on for later.
We checked out at the nurse's station and said bye to the head nurse Sarah. Then we got to the car and headed home.
When we were pulling up to the house, I can see Sophie's face pressed up against the window. Waiting for us to get up.
I parked the car in the garage and grabbed our medical bags and Edward grabbed the briefcase. We still haven't taken our lab coats off yet and we were still in scrubs.
We didn't even make into the door and we were greeted by my youngest daughter. Sophie threw herself into my arms and then into Edwards arms.
"I thought you guys would never get home. Emmett has been teasing me non-stop today." Sophie said.
Edward put Sophie down. "Why has he been teasing you?"
"Emmett was just being mean." Sophie pouted.
"Thanks for ratting me out squirt. I haven't been that bad." Emmett said walking in.
Emmett was soon followed by Bella and then Esme. Sophie was back in my arms.
"How was your day?" I asked.
We finally made into the living room and sat down.
"It was good. I watched Frozen and did a puzzle with Bella. I had a reading lesson with Jasper." Sophie said.
"Sounds like a good day."
Sophie sat content in my lap and I looked at Esme.
"Can I talk to you?" I asked.
Esme nodded her head. Edward took that as his cue to go and make Sophie a snack, Bella right behind them.
Then it was the two of us.
"What's on your mind dear?" Esme asked.
"Well, I was thinking. Since Sophie has come to live with us, she hasn't gotten out very much. Edward loved the idea and I was hoping you did to." I said.
"Honey why don't you just tell me what's on your mind." Esme said with a chuckle.
"I was thinking that I can take Sophie to our special spot and have a picnic.
A daddy daughter day. I think she would love it and deserves it. Is that okay?" I asked.
Esme smiled so big and hugged me.
"I think it is a wonderful idea. She will love it. I know she has been wanting to go out."
I smiled and kissed Esme.
"How was your day?" I asked her.
The two of us leaned back into the couch completely relaxed.
"It was well. Sophie and Bella hung out a lot and then Charlotte and Peter came over about noon. I also took Sophie out to the garden to." Esme said.
"Sounds like you had a good day to. Mine was busy till the last hour. I wanted to get home to my family." I said.
"Your home know, let's go upstairs." Esme said.
With Esme leading the way, the two of us headed upstairs. Sophie will be fine. Edward and Bella will watch her for a while.
