Belle still felt bad about what had happened to us the other day in the park but most of all she felt bad that Kyle and me were not talking to each other. Kyle did all he could to evade me at all costs, he refused to even make eye contact with me.
"Maybe we shouldn't be friends anymore," Belle whispered as we walked up to my house one afternoon.
"Why?" I asked "Because of Kyle?"
She nodded
"Forget about him," I replied "he's just being a douche about this. He'll get over it."
"But I feel so bad," she sighed wiping a single tear from her eye "if I wasn't so fat and ugly I would lots of friends."
"Maybe," I replied before changing the subject "so did you get any new letters from your secret admirer?"
She blushed "Well just one,"
I smiled "And what did it say?"
"Hi," she replied twisting a strand of hair around her finger
"That's it?" I asked
She nodded
"Do you have any idea who it is yet?"
"No," she sighed
"Oh," I sighed along with her
"Mm Stan," she said quietly looking down at her hands
"Yeah?" I asked looking up at her
"My parents wanted know if your parents want to some over for dinner on Friday,'
"I'll ask my mom," I replied
I opened door to my house and was greeted by silence of no one being home "No one is home yet," I said as we walked inside "do you just want to start on homework?"
She nodded before plopping herself down on the floor and retrieving her books from backpack. I sat down across from her and had just settled down to do my homework when the doorbell rang.
"Shit," I sighed getting back up and walking back towards the door.
I opened the door to find Kenny standing there "Hey Dude," he mumbled "why was the door locked?"
"Sorry," I shrugged "I didn't know you were coming over."
"Really?" he asked "why wouldn't I come over?"
"Well I thought I heard Kyle ask if you wanted to go over to his house to study," I explained
"I was but then decided to come over here," he shrugged stepping into my house.
"Okay then," I said leading him towards the livingroom where Belle sat waiting for me to return.
"Hi Kenny," she waved
He nodded over to her and sat down beside us "So whatcha working on?"
"Math," I replied
"Math totally sucks ass," she mumbled out loud
After math we our stupid science homework which wasn't even about science, it was about America's Next Top Model.
Belle sat in silence as she worked on her homework and Kenny looked as of he wanted to nod off to sleep.
"So are you going to do over Christmas break Kenny?" I asked
He shrugged his shoulders "Dunno maybe hang with you, Kyle or Cartman and play video games."
I nodded before asking Belle the same question...
"My family always goes to visit my Grandparents in Colorado Springs," she sighed "and it's boring as hell."
"Really?" I asked "how come."
"Well first off the adults go off to talk amongst themselves leaving us kids alone to play or do whatever they think we do. My cousins are real douches all they ever talk about is how much everyone loves them and how smart they are. Like how they are in advanced classes and stuff."
"Sounds horrible," Kenny said
"Yeah it does," I agreed
"And then we only get one gift," she sighed "because my family puts everyone's name in a dumb hat and pulls a name out."
"One gift?" I replied "That sucks."
"I know right," she said
xxoxoxoxoxo
The next day was the last day before Winter Break and everyone in class had their brains stuck in 'vacation mode' and could not pay any attention to what Mr. Garrison was saying. When class ended Belle quickly rushed to her locker to grab her things out because she her parents were waiting for her outside. She opened her locker and a letter fell out, she smiled as she picked it up and read "Do not open until Christmas."
I walked her out to her family's suv where we said our goodbyes to each other. "I see you after the New Year," she whispered.
"Yeah," I smiled with my hands in my jacket pocket
She turned to walk away when I stopped her "Belle wait," I said nervously.
"Yeah?" she asked turning back towards me.
It was then I pulled out a small box from my pocket "I got you something small for Christmas. You know so you don't feel bad only opening up one gift."
She looked down at the box and the back up at me "You didn't have to," she blushed.
"I know," I shrugged "but I wanted to."
She smiled sweetly as she took the box from me and then without warning gave me another one of her famous hugs. "Thank you," she whispered in my ear.
"Your welcome," I replied back.
Her father blew his horn telling us she really had to go now, she waved goodbye one last time before she drove away. By the time I watched her leave my bus home had already left and I was forced to walk home. As I crossed the field where we ambushed the last time I was very aware of my surroundings. I could only hear the crunching of the snow under my feet. Once out the field I was home free but when I got home I was greeted with Kyle sitting outside of my house waiting for me.
"What do you want?" I asked
"Just to talk," he replied standing up "if that's okay with you."
I glared at him for a second before I nodded "Okay fine, but if you came to talk me out of being Belle's friend you're wasting your breath."
"I know Dude," he said "it's not about that."
"It's not?" I asked raising an eyebrow.
He shook his head no and I allowed him in "Then what is it about?" I asked.
"I'm sorry," he sighed "I just wanted to know if you could forgive me?"
"Sure...I guess," I replied "I mean we have been friends since preschool."
He smiled "Cool, hey do you want to hang out tomorrow and see a movie or something like that?"
"I guess," I shrugged feeling slightly better having my best friend back on good speaking terms.
"Sweet," he smiled turning to leave "I'll see you tomorrow."
"Kyle wait," I said "why don't you stay for dinner?"
He shook his head 'no' "My Mom wants me home early."
"Oh okay," I sighed and watched him leave.
The next day Kyle was acting weird around me, I was pretty sure that he hadn't made eye contact with me yet. But still I tried to pay little attention to his behavior and enjoy the day. After a movie Kyle suggested we go shoot some baskets. I followed him to the school where we played a little one on one. It was getting late when he just stopped what he was doing and whispered "Dude...I'm sorry."
I was confused...what was he talking 'He's sorry...sorry for what?'
A noise from behind us made me turn to see a group of six graders standing there. It was then I realized him and the other kids in my class sold me out to them.
"Stupid fourth grader," the leader smirked "if I were you I start running."
I looked over at my '' so called best friend'' and he just stood there with his head down in shame.
"Why?" I asked
"Because you wouldn't stop being her friend," he replied softly.
I turned to retreat when I was knocked to the ground really hard, the impact caused my gloves and pants to rip leading me to have scrapped up knees and palms. I wanted to cry for my Mommy but what was the use she couldn't hear me. I covered my face the best that I could as they started to beat the crap out of me...
xxoxoxoox
I wobbled home after my harsh beating and the moment I opened the door to my I called out to my Mom. She came rushing in "Oh my God Stanley!" she shrieked "What happened?" I just broke down crying and she wrapped her arms around me "Let's go get you cleaned up," she said softly as she coasted me up the stairs and into the bathroom.
Once I was cleaned up and had dinner I wanted to spend the rest of the night in my room. Sure my body hurt all over but my heart hurt more, Kyle had betrayed me and that hurt more than anything. What had happened today replayed over and over in my head until I fell asleep.
