One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, fucking one hundred. Sasuke had counted to ten just about one hundred times and still felt just the tiniest bit on edge. It was Seriously getting on his last nerve, which forced his tiniest bit of edge all the way up to your going to fall off the cliff if you so much as blink.
Sasuke shook his head. It didn't even make since to him. None of it did. He wanted Naruto out, but then again, it physically hurt to try telling the idiot he could leave. He started to think about what would make Gaara tell Sasuke, why not Kakashi. Another reason he didn't want to tell Naruto, he wanted to check in with Kakashi just to confirm from the main person that assigned this.
"Hey you've reached Kakash-beep" Sasuke closed his phone and placed it on the counter. He glared at it as the screen went off. He had called his stupid sensei about five times.
"Sasuke? What are you in the mood for?" Sasuke had barely noticed Naruto come in but now that he took in his appearance he wondered how he had missed it. Naruto's hair was still wet and his red shirt was sticking to hi damp chest. The fact that his black sweatpants were crooked and falling off of him completed his lazy look.
Naruto messed around in the cabinets and finally sat on the floor too lazy to squat. "What took you so long idiot?"
With a sigh Naruto laid back with his eyes closed. "You the one that said I could fuck off, I even washed my hands for you."
"Hn." Sasuke rolled his eyes but took notice that Naruto seemed exceptionally lazy and even tired. "Get off the floor Dobe, you just got out of the shower. You're going to get sick and dirty."
Naruto peeked open a shining blue eye and smirked. "I'm so comfortable down here though. It cool and lets me stretch out."
"It's also dirty and I'll laugh whenever you die of a fever." Naruto glared and stuck his tongue out. Sasuke stared at him as his eyes closed and his tongue sunk back into his mouth. He seemed like he was going to go to sleep right there. Sasuke against started to think about how to approach everything. He watched as Naruto faught against sleep.
"Hey," Naruto opened his eyes. "Naru-Ring Ring"
Naruto sat up and rubbed his eyes. "Answer your phone Sasuke." He continued looking through the cabinets.
Sasuke narrowed his eyes at the phone but snatched it up whenever he recognized the name that popped up. "Hello?"
"Yo, Sasuke! You called earlier?"
Sasuke rubbed his temple and considered taking this into the other room but Naruto would have just listened in anyways. "Yes I did. Gaara had called and-"
Kakashi cut him off there. "Oh by the way, there has been a cancel on cancelling you and Naruto's lodging situation. I hope Naruto hasn't gotten too far." Kakashi's lazy voice had managed to somehow reach Naruto.
"What? That is confusing. Cancel to canceling? What would that even mean?" While Naruto scratched his head Sasuke felt his throat tighten.
"So what Gaara called about?"
"Ignore it for now. We do need to have you and Naruto to go on a mission together. It will start in two days, so I will be over with a few others tomorrow to get you guys briefed and ready."
Sasuke felt a mixture of relief and tension. A mission after god knows how long. He could feel his whole body shift into its usual business tone and he was almost excited. "Understood."
"Is that all?"
"Yes, thank you."
Sasuke was about to hang up when he heard Kakashi say something. "Sasuke? Before I come over tomorrow, you to need to decide which one wears the skirt in the relationship." With that the line cut off and Sasuke pulled the phone from his ear. Sasuke scoffed as he placed down his phone.
"Seriously though Sasuke! How on earth does 'canceling a cancel' make since?" Sasuke shook his head at the blond lying on the floor again with his arm over his eyes.
He nudged Naruto's head with his foot from the stool he sat on. Naruto glared at him from the floor. "Let's order out."
Naruto popped up suddenly onto his knees, his eyes were sparkling. "Really? Don't joke with me Bastard!"
Sasuke glared at Naruto and stood up. "Don't make me change my mind idiot." Naruto ran from the room, hunting down the phone to order his food.
After their food had gotten there (Ramen thanks to Naruto) Sasuke had laid back on the couch with Naruto sitting beside him slurping loudly. Sasuke narrowed his eyes and turned up the volume as he flicked through the channels. He finally landed on a mystery show about a girl kidnapped.
"Naruto we have a mission the day after tomorrow." Naruto looked over at Naruto with noodles hanging from his mouth. "Tomorrow Kakashi and a few others will be over to tell us about the mission."
Swallowing harshly Naruto rudely pointed his chopsticks at Sasuke. "Why are you just now telling me about this. Wait do you mean Kakashi is going to be here all day tomorrow?" Sasuke shook his head slowly. Naruto tilted the box against his lips to swallow what was left.
With a sigh of content Naruto plopped over nearly having his head land on Sasuke's knee. He stretched his legs out and then curled up into a ball. Sasuke watched him get comfortable and nearly jumped out of his skin whenever Naruto spoke, breaking the silence.
"Why did they burn her body but not scatter the ashes in a random place? Not to mention the little boy, he's going to have those scars for life. Poor kid." Naruto was commenting on the show that Sasuke hadn't even been paying attention to.
When Sasuke looked up at the television he saw pictures of a young boy with burn marks going up his side. Sasuke's eyes heavily landed on Naruto's cheeks where his whisker marks were. In a way they were scars as well. Last time Naruto talked about them he said he didn't mind them but people did stare.
"Sasuke?" Snapping out of his thoughts Sasuke looked down at the blond. He looked at him in wonder and at first this confused him. Sasuke had realized he had his hand on Naruto's cheek, using his thumb to rub the marks.
"Hmm?" Sasuke asked turning his attention back to the T.V. only moving his hand to rest on Naruto's head. Sasuke felt Naruto lie his head back down this time on his knee.
"Nothing, you just seemed lost in thought."
This reminded Sasuke of something. "Why are you so tired?" Naruto answered without moving hardly.
"Not all of us got to take a nap today. I didn't sleep well last night, why else would I have been up at such an ungodly hour?"
Sasuke flicked his eyes down to Naruto and released a heavy sigh. "You had a nightmare didn't you?" Naruto visibly tensed before giving in.
He shook his head yes and then shrugged. "It wasn't a bad one. It gave me the perfect opportunity to drive you a tad bite crazier."
Sasuke let the silence that followed Naruto's words linger for a little longer before he commented. It took him a few moments to get it out. "Eh, Naru, you can wake me up if it's serious enough." Naruto chuckled. "What? I'm being nice, you shouldn't laugh at me."
"No it's not that. You just called me 'Naru' again."
Sasuke thought for a moment. "It's just a nickname Naruto. How is that funny?"
Naruto lifted his head and rolled so he could lie on his stomach. "It's not funny. I just find it amusing that I have to step up my game to make you crazy. All you have to do is call me Naru." This completely confused Sasuke.
"I still don't understand the game."
"Teme, it's so easy!"
"No it's not Dobe!"
"Baka!" Naruto Sat up on his knees and leaned forward glaring just as hard as Sasuke. "I'll show you one more time, try to keep up." Sasuke was confused but Naruto had challenged him and he wasn't about to turn down a challenge, especially not one made by Uzumaki Naruto.
Sasuke let out a small growl and Naruto grabbed the raven by his shirt collar. He leaned in making sure to not break eye contact. He ran a hand through Sasuke's hair and he felt Sasuke repress a shiver. Naruto took in all of Sasuke and started to back away.
Sasuke firmly gripped Naruto's wrist, stopping him from moving. "Does this mean you give up?" When Naruto had said it he had been smirking, but now that Sasuke said it, he held seriousness in his face. Demanding that Naruto do what he always did. He never quite anything and he sure as hell never gave up on anything.
"You wish bastard." Naruto ripped his arm from Sasuke and instead grabbed Sasuke's wrist. He pushed it back against the back of the couch. In this position he was towering over Sasuke, so he pulled Sasuke's chin up and leaned in closer. Their breath mingling but their lips didn't touch.
Sasuke gasped when he suddenly felt a warm hand under his shirt. Naruto's fingers ghosted over the muscle there. Sasuke grimaced at the smirk that appeared on Naruto's face. Naruto was getting to him; he was winning, wasn't he? No, that would simply not do.
With a quick lunge, Naruto was easily pushed back against the cushions. It was almost funny to see Naruto looks surprised and then began pouting. He pressed his body weight against Naruto, keeping him from moving. Naruto glared at him and he just watched him continue to squirm.
"Get off of me Teme!"
"Hn. What's the magic words?" Naruto couldn't believe the words let alone the smirk on Sasuke's thin lips.
"Well If you don't I'll end up doing something kinda awkward to get you to move."
Sasuke raised an eyebrow at the grinning guy beneath him. Without warning Naruto brought a knee up in-between Sasuke's legs. Naruto smirked smugly as Sasuke cleared his throat. He rose his head and met Naruto's gaze.
"Tch, idiot." Sasuke sat up and slung his leg up and away from the couch. "Kakashi will be here early, perhaps we should go to bed.
Naruto watched as Sasuke turned off the T.V and checked the door's lock. Not that it would stop their annoying sensei. Sasuke glanced around making sure he checked everything he needed to and then looked over at the couch. Naruto was all but falling off of the couch. He seemed to be sleeping.
He made his way over and leaned over him. "Dobe?" Naruto barely peeked an eye open before closing it again. "Naruto you shouldn't sleep out here. Go to bed."
"No." Sasuke felt his eye twitch. He smacked Naruto upside the head and walked away saying something along the lines of 'fine be an idiot'.
