Initiation Part 2

As Cadance stood in the dress shop getting measured, the last thing on her mind was fashion or the upcoming ball. In fact, if she had her way she would be in her room sulking with a bowl of chocolate ice cream and some sappy romantic music.

"Quit Slouching!" Her Nursemaid, scolded, "And for pity sake try to show some joy."

Cadance rolled her eyes, Nurturing Hoof may have been one of the most highly recommend nurse maids in Equestria, but as far as Cadance was concerned, she was a fat white blob that seemed to be in a perpetual bad mood. For as long as Cadance could remember, she was frequently complaining about something the Princess of Love did rushing to Celestia at the drop of a hat. This in turn caused Celestia to complain to her in the form of a long boring lecture about duty and responsibility. The means of avoiding this lecture being to shut up and bear it.

"Do I have to speak with the Princess again, young lady?" Nurting hoof threatened.

Cadance put on the fakest cheerful; smile she could which added to Nurturing Hoof's annoyance, "Cadance, what am I going to do with you?!" Nurturing Hoof began angrily, "You're not a filly anymore and yet you never take matters like this seriously. You have a great family reputation to up hold and yet you can't be bothered to make even the smallest attempt to play your part. I swear your mother must be spinning in her grave when she sees how you act."

"I know who my parents were." Cadance retorted.

"Well if they were here right now, they'd be telling you the same thing!" Her nurse maid went on in an exasperated tone, "It's time you stop acting like a child and started taking life seriously!"

"I'm here aren't I?" Cadance grumbled.

"Don't take that tone with me, young lady! I have been more than patient with you shirking every important matter that comes your way." Nurturing Hoof said sharply, "Take Prince Blue Blood's formal invitation to the Ball, it's been several days and you haven't even sent a reply!"

"I'm getting to it." She replied defensively.

"Uh huh," Nurturing Hoof replied skeptically, "I still don't understand why you haven't shown an interest. He's a rich, handsome high born noble and any mare would jump at the chance to make a husband out of him."

"Why don't you marry him then?" Cadance asked sarcastically.

"Don't get smart with me." Nurturing Hoof warned, "I know what has gotten in to you, and it's about time you faced facts. You can't marry Shinning Armor, he is too far beneath your station, and the Princess would never allow it!" Cadance felt her temper explode, as she raced out of the room, "Where do you think you're going!" Nurturing Hoof called out after her, "Get back here!"

"Go to Tartarus!" Cadance shouted storming out of the shop as she slammed the door behind her.

Cadance could barely see through her tears as she raced out of the dress shop down the streets of Canter lot. Not paying attention, she tripped and went tumbling into the street.

"Goodness!" Familiar voice called out, "Are you okay?"

Looking up through her tears, she saw Alora rushing over from a nearby shop.

Unable to speak, Cadance shook her head as tears streamed down her face.

'What's wrong?" Alora asked.

Forest Green came out and walked over, "is she okay?"

Alora gave him a worried look, "I don't know." And turning her attention back to the Princess of Love she asked, "Cadance dear, are you alright?"

"No," Cadance replied, as fresh tears appeared in her eyes.

"Can we help?" Alora asked.

"I love him, Alora." Cadance whimpered, "I love him and there is nothing I can do!"

Turning to her husband, Alora said, "I think this is girl talk."

"Got it," He replied with a nod, "I've got some reading to catch up on anyway, see you at home."

"I can't wait." Alora replied.

As the two of them kissed, Cadance felt her heart starting to break. Why couldn't she have that? As much as she loved Alora, part of her hated her sometimes for what she had with Forest Green. Something she wanted with Shinning Armor so bad it hurt.

"Okay," Alora began with all seriousness, "In moments like this there is only once place to go."

"Where is that?" Cadance asked.

"The Tavern, of course," Alora replied, "First pints on me!"

5555555555555555555555

Cadance had to admit, after three pints of hard cider she was starting to feel better.

"So," Alora began with girlish excitement, setting her empty mug down "don't keep me in suspense, who's the Stallion?"

"You promise you won't tell?" Cadance asked.

Alora raised an eyebrow, "As long as we've known each other do I really have to answer that?"

Cadance sighed, as if to reveal a deep dark secret, "Shinning Armor."

Alora smiled brightly, "You have excellent taste."

Cadance sat back surprised, "You think so?"

"Of course I do!" Alora replied enthusiastically, "He's handsome, strong, and so incredibly sweet and sensitive. Did you see the way he got teary eyed at my wedding?"

Cadance lips moved into a loopy smile, "Yeah, he is wonderful, isn't he?"

"So, what's the problem?" Alora asked.

"Well, it's like he doesn't notice." Cadance replied, "I've been in love with him since we both got our cuttie marks. I've given him so many big hints it's to the point that I am practically throwing myself at him and he still only thinks of me as his best friend."

Alora shook her head, "Some boys are just dense. I bet you he's madly in love with you two, he just doesn't realize it."

"Tell me about it," Cadance sighed with frustration, "And to make matters worse even if he did notice me, the court wouldn't go for it."

"Oh who cares what they think," Alora rolled her eyes, as the server set down two more mugs "Forest Green was a commoner when we met, and sure it caused a stir, but eventually every pony got over it."

"Yeah, but I'm an Alicorn and a princess." Cadance replied, "That changes the map a bit as Nurturing Hoof was so kind to remind me today." Cadance added bitterly.

"Oh who cares what that puffed up old bitty thinks," Alora replied dismissively, "Equestria is changing, every pony knows that. There are some dinosaurs like Moon stone who want to live in the past, but change is unavoidable. Heck, look how much has changed since we were fillies."

"I hope you're right." Cadance replied, "Because my only other option is to cut off my wings."

"Given Forest Green and I made it down the aisle, I am sure it is." Alora replied and changing subjects she said, "Now, on to the next problem."

"What's that?" Cadance asked.

"Getting that dense soldier pony to notice you," Alora replied, "And I have a plan."

Cadance smiled deviously, "What did you have in mind?"

"Well for starters, we need to get you into the right dress." Alora replied, "Not that awful thing Nurturing Hoof has you in."

To her horror, Cadance then noticed she was dressed in a tacky fluffy peach nightmare frock that looked like it was purchased from an antique store ran as a front for a grave robber, horrified she said, "I look like a fruit dish."

Alora laughed, "Don't worry, nothing that can't be fixed."

Cadance's lips moved into a broad smile, "Okay, what did you have in mind?"

"Right now, getting drunk" Alora replied, "Tomorrow, we stop by that boutique I told you about in Ponyville. I swear that fashinista really knows her stuff!"

555555555555555555

Shadow Doom sat at a desk in the underground library of the Shadow Cult, reading over the manuscript Shadow Pestilence had fetched from the tombs.

'Master," Shadow Storm greeted, as he entered.

Turning, Shadow Doom smiled, "Ah, splendid you're early. Have the preparations for the ball been made?"

"Yes Master," Shadow Storm replied.

Sensing there was a question, Shadow Doom said, "I sense you have some concerns?"

"I just am curious as to why you want the Royal Guard notified after assisting the Earth ponies with their plans for rebellion." Shadow Storm asked respectfully.

"Excellent question, my young friend," Shadow Doom replied in a scholarly manner, "For you see, we have much work ahead of us and it will require positioning, allowing me to justify several things in order to advance our glorious cause. In addition, it will serve as a diversion to our activities keeping the Royal Guard too busy with Active Voice's foolish rebellion to meddle in our affairs. If we're lucky, it may even remove some obstacles such as Iron Forge thus making things all the more easier when the time comes to reveal ourselves."

"I see," Shadow Storm replied and then changing topics he asked, "Have you learned anything from Shadow Baleful's Grimoire?"

"A great deal!" His Master exclaimed joyously, "She was truly a prodigy of dark magic! It is a pity her genius is unknown in Equestria for that idiot Star Swirl pales in comparison to her greatness. With her knowledge we shall triumph over that naïve fool Celestia and bring about the greatest era Equestria has ever known." He then turned as a smile appeared beneath the hood of his robe, "And you will rise too my friend, seated at my right as one of the greatest magicians ever to walk the land. Let's see Alora's family turn their noses up at you after that, eh?"

Shadow Storm grinned, "Thank you, Master."

"No thank you, for your loyalty and service this is just a small part of the reward in store for you," Shadow Doom replied graciously "For you are the most faithful servant of the Shadow."

55555555555

"Hold still," Harmonic Bell scolded.

"I still don't know why I have to wear these." Wishful Wind grumbled, as he stood on a stool in his room at the magician's quarters in Canterlot Castle, "I mean, we have apprentice robes."

"Well we've been elevated in station so they aren't really appropriate," She smiled deviously, "That and they make you look sexy."

Wishful Wind blushed furiously, "umm, thanks."

Harmonic Bell Laughed, "I'm your special some pony, silly. It's okay for me to call you sexy."

"I Know," he replied, looking down, "I just can't help it."

"So," She began, "Isn't there something you want to ask me?"

"Huh," Wishful wind replied.

"About the ball," She hinted, "A certain question on your mind?"

"Oh that," he replied, shifting his feet nervously.

"Yes, that." She smiled, "Well?"

"Well, I mean, won't people find out?" he asked.

She rolled her blue eyes playfully, and as if answering a silly question she said, "Yes, but they'll find out eventually. Things move forward and we can't make out in the library forever. Sooner or later, ponies will know about us."

"Ponies like Twilight," He gulped, "And you're father."

"Don't worry about my father, he likes you and knowing him he all ready suspects. As to your sister, it's none of her business." She replied matter of fact.

"You don't know Twiley," Wishful wind said warily.

Harmonic Bell sighed with frustration and said, "Your Brother adores me, your parents adore me, and so I doubt they will object. As to my father he is rather fond of you, I am sure I can persuade him. If I am right and every other pony gives their blessing, what can she do about it? Yes, she will have a tantrum, but she will get over it, trust me."

"You know, you're right!" Wishful Wind said confidently, "It is between us anyhow!"

"Exactly, beloved." Harmonic Bell said in heartfelt agreement, "So can we go to the dance as a couple?"

"Yes," Wishful Wind said, almost gasping with relief now that he had made a decision.

"Excellent," Harmonic Bell smiled, and leaned forward, "Now, kiss me."

With a euphoric expression, Wishful Wind leaned forward.

As they began to kiss, they heard someone gasp. Turning, they saw Twilight standing there, her mouth open in shock and surprise.

'Twilight!" Wishful Wind exclaimed.

Without a word, she turned and bolted from the room.

As Wishful Wind galloped after her, Harmonic Bell called out after him, "Let her go! Wishful Wind!" As the door closed behind him, she shrugged, "Meh, she was bound to find out sooner or later."

55555555555

Wishful Wind caught up to her in the hall way, "Twlight! Wait, let me explain!"

"Explain what!?" She said sharply, turning to face him, "Why you're kissing that spoiled brat!"

"Hold on now!" Wishful Wind retorted defensively, "That's my special some pony you're talking about!"

"She's your special some pony now?!" Twilight asked with disbelief and disgust.

"Yeah, what of it?" Wishful Wind replied heatedly.

"And how long as this been going on?" His sister asked.

Wishful Wind rolled his eyes, "Not that it is any of your business, but since dad was made Lord High Treasurer."

"I just can't believe it." Twilight shook her head with disgust, "what could you possibly be thinking?"

"Let's see, she is beautiful, intelligent and wonderful." He replied, "Given every stallion our age is after her, I should count myself lucky she even gives me the time of day never mind dating me."

"Are you kidding me! That stuck up, spoiled bigot?! You could do so much better than her." Twilight countered, "I mean, didn't you hear what she said about the Earth ponies in the shop the other day?"

"So, she is entitled to her opinion isn't she?" Wishful Wind asked defensively.

"That's a pretty ugly opinion," Twilight replied coldly, "And on top of being a bigot, she is also manipulative prat. Don't you see how she wraps ponies around her hoof? The way she talks to the every pony at court, her father, the Princess"

"And at last we come to the real point." Wishful wind said mockingly,"This about you and hers little rivalry with Celestia," he narrowed his violet eyes at her, "Do me a favor, sis, leave me out of it. If you want to be better than her, then prove it by being the better student not by trying to break us up."

Twilight shook angrily and screamed, "You can really be a stupid ass sometimes!" and then before Wishful Wind could reply, she ran off.

Watching her go, the young magician was instantly filled with remorse. Sighing, he said sarcastically, "Well done Wish, you handled that perfectly."

55555555555

Twilight rushed down the halls of the Castle, the tears streaming from her face. Not wanting to cry in public, she took a side stair down to the royal gardens to a remote spot near one of the many fountains. Moving over to a stone bench, she sat down to have herself a good sob. Harmonic Bell had done it again, taken something from her. She had always been her rival, smiling in her face as she ruined everything from her relationship with Celestia, to her standing in the class. But did she have to take away her best friend in the entire world!? The closest being to her that had been there since the moment she had come into existence?

While this all seemed selfish to her, she knew she couldn't control her feelings, only her actions. But the thought of smiling across from that spoiled brat at a family dinner was just unbearable.

"Pardon me," A gentle voice said, "I am sorry if I am intruding, but are you alright?"

Looking up, she found herself staring into the ice blue eyes of Bravely Charging. His kind smile, made butterflies swirl in her stomach. He was out of his armor, revealing his muscled midnight blue body. His black mane and tail only somewhat styled, but still looking handsome. Now her crush was standing there, while she bawled her eyes out like a little filly. Could the universe be any crueler today? She whimpered internally.

Wiping her eye, she blushed slightly and said, "I'm fine, really."

"No need to be embarrassed," He replied, "There was several moments in training I felt like sobbing."

Twlight's eyes widened with amazement, "Really?"

"You haven't trained with Iron Forge," And then speaking in an overly dramatic gruff voice he said, "All right you lazy donkeys, I don't care if we've been at this for twelve hours! Get it right this time or we'll marching till the Princess raises the sun tomorrow!"

It was a bad impression, and while it wasn't all that funny, Twilight couldn't help but giggle a little bit.

"I've made you smile." He replied, "My work is done here."

"Thanks," Twilight replied, finding him utterly sweet.

"Well, if you're feeling grateful, maybe you'd consider going to the ball with me?" He asked, "That is if you can stand my company for an evening."

"Oh stop," She rolled her eyes.

"Oh so you won't go with me?" He wilted playfully.

"I'd love to go with you, silly." Twilight replied.

"Wonderful," He replied, "Until then."

55555555555

The Night of the initiation, in true ceremony, all of the apprentices selected to be in the ring of defense, along with the cadets selected all stood before the court of Equestria and spoke their vows to stand against Dark Magic, to be a wall around the heart of Equestria, to guard it forever from evil. After they spoke, they were each embraced by Celestia and then each given new clothes. A red robe if they were a magician and a golden sash if they were royal guard. Once the rite had been completed, Celestia stepped forward, "And now that the formal initiation has concluded, we shall begin the festivities." And after a hearty round of applause, she nodded to the musicians who began to play.

Shinning Armor walked across the dance floor alongside his date Sonnet Rain, her ice blue dress almost looking form fitted to her slender pink body.

"I am so glad you asked me, Shine," she smiled, "I would have hated to be a wall flower tonight."

"It's no problem" He replied, graciously, "I am just glad you said yes."

"Why wouldn't I? I've been looking forward to dancing with you all week." She replied and with a mischievous smile, her horn glowed slightly as Shinning Armor felt a slight pinch on his flank, "In more ways than one."

His eyes widening, he saw his commander standing by the refreshment table, and said, "Oh look, Captain Iron Forge, I need to brief him on something."

"But it's a ball," Sonnet Rain wilted slightly, "Can't it wait?"

"Afraid not, urgent Royal Guard business," He said rushing off.

Iron Forge stood helping himself to some hard cider, and seeing Shinning Armor, he smiled and said, "Ah, Cadet Armor, how are you enjoying the party so far?"

"It's excellent, sir," Shinning Armor replied, as he glanced nervously back at his date currently licking her lips at him, "But I was wondering if maybe you has some other pressing business I could attend to?"

Iron Forge shook his head and said, "Armor, as an officer of the Royal Guard you need to learn how to function in environments like this as they are as much a part of our life as the battle f…." He stopped mid sentence as he gasped, "Sweet mother of Celestia!"

Turning, Shinning Armor's jaw almost hit the floor. She was beautiful, absolutely beautiful, in a white dress made of the softest silks, lined tastefully with golden trim as if sown by angels using threads made of sunlight and cloud. Her mane and tail were styled like an intricate tapestry, with white blossoms woven through out them, each more beautiful than the next. Her makeup was a true wonder, each line, each color bringing out every feature, even those hidden making her face a glorious puzzle with each piece making her more beautiful than the last. Shinning Armor couldn't believe his eyes, as his mind slowly realized this mare that had brought the room to silence, was Cadance.

Standing next to her, Alora whispered, "I think you got his attention."

Cadance's heart raced as her eyes met with Shinning Armor, who stood dumbfounded like a school colt.

Alora nudged her forward, "Well don't just stand there, talk to him."

Swallowing with a subtle nervous gulp, she walked towards him.

"Princess Cadance looks ravishing, doesn't she?" Iron Forge said in a knowing tone, when Shinning Armor didn't reply, he added, "She's here alone tonight, can you believe it?"

"Really?" Shinning Armor asked surprised.

"Yep, turned down Blue Blood cold, as well as every other Stallion who asked her," Iron Forge replied, "Now she has no pony to dance with. Damn shame if you ask me."

"Wow." Shinning Armor replied with amazement.

"You know now that I think of it, you should ask her to dance." Iron forge suggested, "I mean, just so the poor mare doesn't feel awkward."

"Me, sir?" Shinning Armor said surprised.

"Yep, and that's an order, Cadet." Iron Forge said firmly.

After a moment's hesitation, Shinning Armor said, "Yes, sir."

As Shinning Armor walked off, Iron Forge looked to Alora and winked receiving a grateful smile in reply.

As Shinning Armor approached, while Cadance's heart raced in her chest, she put on her best poker face. While she was nervous, this was Shinning Armor after all. When the two of them met in the center of the dance floor, all eyes fell upon them as the music abruptly halted with a final sharp note from a violin.

"Cadance," Shinning Armor Began with amazement, "You look…beautiful."

"Aww," She blushed, "You're sweet."

All the eyes of the court were upon them, some with curiosity but many with shock and disgust. Amongst them were some with encouragement and even those daring to give their approval. After glancing back to receive a nod of encouragement from his commander, Shinning Armor swallowed and said, "Umm, would you like too…"

"Dance?" Cadance asked, finishing his sentence, "I'd love to."

After the shock had passed, the music began to play once more and the two of them began to move about the dance floor as others moved to join them, Then Nurturing Hoof stormed up to Iron Forge. She was wearing a hideous yellow dress that her short pudgy body barely fit into, coupled with an excessive among of makeup both adding greatly to her natural ugliness. Her face was red as she said in a huff, "Captain Forge, I must speak with you about this awful travesty!"

Sipping his glass of cider, Iron Forge asked dispassionately, "And what travesty is that, Madam?"

"Are you blind?!" She screeched, "The one going on before your eyes on the dance floor! The one all of the court is witnessing and murmuring about!"

Looking forward, he scanned the ball room looking over the various ponies, "Could you be more specific?"

"There!" She pointed with her hoof, "The Princess dancing with Cadet Armor!"

"What about it?" Iron Forge asked, "They seem to be enjoying themselves."

"What about it?!" Nurturing Hoof exclaimed dramatically, "Enjoying themselves?!" She stammered, nearly foaming at the mouth.

"Yes," Iron Forge replied tiredly, "At least they appear to be. It's been a while since I was young, but I dimly recall dancing being one of the activities I enjoyed back then. In fact, I met my wife at a Nightmare Night dance…"

"Given their stations it is entirely inappropriate." She replied angrily, cutting him off, "She is an Alicorn Princess and he is of common birth! Even though his family has risen to the ranks of the lower nobility he has no business being so familiar with a Princess of Equestria!" She narrowed her eyes at him, "That being said, I intend to know what you are going to put an end to this disgrace!"

"Alright, here is what I am going to do. First I am going to finish my drink." He said, and after gulping down the last of his glass' contents, he continued; "Now I am going to find my wife and ask her for a dance."

"You can't be serious!" Nurturing Hoof gasped, "You intend to let this affront to basic decency continue!?"

"Well, what can I say? I guess because my wife and I are originally from the lower nobility I'm not sophisticated enough to know better," He shrugged, "Now, if you'll excuse me."

As he walked away, Nurturing Hoof yelled, "I shall speak to Celestia about this!"

"You do that." Iron Forge replied apathetically.

55555555555

Meanwhile, while the Canterlot court celebrated the imitation of the newly created ring of defense, six shapes moved in the darkness towards the Royal Armory. They were Earth Ponies, each dressed in black clothes that covered them from head to hoof, with only a slit open to allow for vision.

Coming to a stop in a dark corner within sight of the Armory, their leader, Striking Hammer whispered, "Looks like tonight is our lucky night boys, only two guards at the door."

"The rest are probably off working security for the party." One of his group replied.

"Imagine so, but let's not get to cocky now. It only takes one to set off the alarm and bring the rest of 'em running and there are probably more inside." Striking Hammer cautioned.

"Can't we just use the music box thing-a-ma-jig?" another asked.

"I'd love it if it was that easy but Active Voice said that it has a limited range so it would be better to wait till we get inside." Striking Hammer replied, "Speaking of which, you got your ear plugs?" They all nodded and he smiled, "Alright, wait right here."

"Where are you going?" One of his troop asked.

"I'm Gonna to go up and knock on the door." He replied cheerfully, slipping off his black clothes, revealing a black suit he was wearing underneath, "and if that goes south, you fellas haul your flanks out of here and keep going till you hit Zecora's. She owes me a favor so she should let you lay low there. If I managed to escape, I'll catch you there in a few days,"

"What if you don't?" One of them asked anxious.

"Then I guess you'll be the boss Rocky so that'll be up to you." He then added firmly, "And as a good leader I know you wouldn't do anything as stupid as trying to rescue me."

"But Boss…" Rocky protested.

"No buts." He replied, "There is something about this that just seems to easy, and that makes me uneasy. I know Active voice thinks this is going to be a cake walk, he's a politician and I'm a soldier. While the plan is to pull this off without a hitch, in case that doesn't pan out there is no reason why all of us need to end up in the dungeons tonight. So If things go south, don't stop till you get to Zecora's place. If I manage to escape, I'll meet you in a few days."

"And what if you don't?" Rocky asked.

"Well, that will be up to you since you'll be the boss then." Striking Hammer replied. "Oh and one more thing, boys," He began adding something quickly, "If there is trouble, do what you have to, but try to just rough up the royal guard. Remember unicorns are a pampered soft lot."

They all chuckled, nodding in agreement.

"Alright, here I go." Striking Hammer said with a voice filled with confidence, "wait for my signal."

"What signal?" One of them asked.

"You'll know." He replied.

With that he casually strolled up to the two guards on watch who were currently engulfed in an intense conversation about a recent hoof ball game. Upon seeing him, they both turned with a sharp, "Halt!"

"Sorry," Striking Hammer began, "I guess I took a wrong turn."

"You're right about that." One of the guards said in displeased agreement, "This is a restricted area, off limits to civilians."

Coming closer, Striking Hammer pointed back towards the palace and said, "Well, if you could be so kind as to direct me to…"

As both of the guards looked, he quickly kicked with his back feet sending one tumbling, as the other turned in surprise, he was struck with a powerful hoof to the head knocking him unconscious. As the other leapt to his feet and ignited his horn, Striking Hammer spun, as two short blades came out from bracers on his front legs a hair's breadth from the guards throat, looking at the wedding ring on his horn, Striking Hammer said, "Unless you want to make a widow of her, I suggest you put out that light."

The Unicorn guard did as ordered, and the rest of the mercenaries quickly rushed up.

"You'll never get away with this," The Guard began angrily; "There are twenty royal guards inside."

"Thanks for letting me know," Striking Hammer replied, giving him a gentle pat on the cheek, "Now take a nap." He punched the guard, knocking him unconscious and then turning to his band said, "Alright boys, Sledge, Weaver, put their uniforms on and start looking official." He took the music box out of his saddle bag, "Every pony else, with me, I want us packed and out of here in five minutes."

55555555555

"Your majesty, I simply cannot allow this disgrace to continue!" Nurturing Hoof ranted, "Cadance has always been a spirited creature, even since she was a foal, but this, this!" She added for emphasis, causing her second and third chin to wobble, "This is the final straw! And since Iron Forge refuses to act; I had no choice but to bring this unspeakable travesty to your attention. Not only for the sake of Cadance's reputation, but also for the good of Canterlot!"

Celestia bit her lip, to prevent from laughing as Moon Stone said, "Nurturing Hoof, I can see why you are concerned, and I sympathize with your predicament. However, considering that this travesty will all ready create unfounded rumors about the Princess' conduct, I think her Majesty would agree with me that direct intervention at this very moment may fuel those rumors leading to an unpleasant scandal."

"I hadn't considered that." Nurturing hoof replied.

"Well, I have been at court for many years now and I have seen this sort of thing before. A simple dance could be explained away and the rumors that it sparks will be forgotten shortly once the court has new things to murmur about." Moon Stone said dismissively. "Believe me, every week there is some new rumor bored nobles eagerly spread biting into them like a new dish, immediately forgetting their previous meal. Trust me, in a week's time this will all be forgotten."

"You may be right," Nurturing hoof replied, "But still, something MUST be done to make Princess Cadance understand her duty as well as her place at court. She has come of age, and it is high time she starting acting like it."

"I will speak with her about this," Celestia said regally, "I give you my word."

"Thank you, you're majesty." Nurturing hoof said graciously, "For I feel I am reaching my wits end."

As she walked away, Celestia sighed, "It never stops does it?"

"No," Moon Stone said in agreement, "But we are getting better at it."

Celestia smiled in a knowing way, "You mean, YOU are getting better at it."

"My lady please…" MoonStone began humbly.

"Don't try false modesty with me Moon," Celestia chuckled, "There are moments I don't know what I would do without you by my side."

Moon Stone smiled, "Well, I won't argue with the Princess of Equestria."

"Would you care to dance with one?" Celestia asked, playfully batting her eyelashes.

"My Lady, it would be an honor." Moonstone replied.

The two of them took to the dance floor, and Moon Stone caught sight of his daughter dancing with Wishful Wind, leading towards them, when they met, all four of them stopped.

"You didn't tell me you had an escort, Harmonic Bell." Moonstone said cheerfully.

"Umm, good evening, Master Moonstone." Wishful Wind squeaked, with a quick bow.

Smiling pleasantly, Harmonic Bell said, "Yes Father, I was looking for the proper time, but Wishful Wind and I are special some ponies."

Celestia smiled, finding the whole thing sweet as Moonstone said in a playful Ominous tone, "Are you now."

Wishful wind began to shake.

"Yes Father," Harmonic bell replied, "Do we have your blessing?"

"Hmm, this is a very important matter." Moon Stone began, acting deep in thought, "After all, you are my only daughter. While he is an exceptional student, and recently proved his bravery in the battle with the tomb robber, how do I know he is the right colt for you?"

As Wishful Wind looked like he was about to faint, Celestia nudged the Magician playfully and said, "Stop torturing the boy, Moonstone."

Moon Stone chuckled and said, "I see no fault with it," He gave Wishful Wind sober looked, "As long as he treats you properly and with the respect."

"I will, Master." Wishful Wind said weakly, "I promise."

"I am sure you will," The Magician replied and seeing Forest Green he said, "Excuse me a moment."

"Of course," Celestia replied.

55555555555

Sonnet Rain slid her tongue down the young guard's throat, as he dragged his hooves across her back, hurting her deliciously. Shinning Armor may have abandoned her, but she had still found a way to accomplish her goal for the night with the help of a young stallion who was easily talked away from his post. And of course, have a little fun while she was at it.

Just as the moment was about to begin, he heard the voice of Shadow Storm in her mind, "Shadow Anguish, where are you? Have you found a replacement for Shinning Armor?"

"Behind some bushes outside of the ball room," She replied, as she nibbled on Shinning Armor's replacement's ear.

"What in Tarturus are you doing there?" After a pause, she could hear his sigh, as he added, "Never mind. You know what you are supposed to do."

"Yes," She thought, "Can it wait few minutes?"

"Not unless you want to explain to Shadow Doom why the plan failed." Shadow Storm replied.

She rolled her eyes, "Fine…" and then she stopped the guard currently kissing her neck, "We should go to the Armory."

"What?" he asked confused.

"The Armory, baby," She replied, "It would be so hot to do it there."

"But it's restricted" he protested.

Her eyes turned yellow and red as her pupils transformed into slits. Her voice changed, becoming distorted like someone demonic harmony, "but I really want to go to the Armory," She kissed his neck, "Please, I will make you so happy."

In a trance, he got up from his spot and they began walking through the darkness, as she continued their conversation with a satisfied smile.

Deciding to take a break from both the dance floor and the displeased gazes of the court, Cadance and Shinning Armor left the ballroom to take a quiet stroll through the Castle gardens. The night was clear and beautiful, with the full moon shinning down a ghostly brilliance upon the flowers and plants, as crickets and frogs chirped in the background.

"So," Cadance began, breaking the silence, "How long do you think they'll be talking about this?"

Shinning Armor smiled, "A week or two at least."

Cadance chuckled.

"What is it?" Shinning Armor asked.

"Just how silly court can be sometimes," Cadance replied, "I mean, we grew up together. And we're seen in each other's company all the time! I even used to go by your house most every day after school when we were kids. Just last week we had lunch in public, but dancing on the ball and every-pony goes out of their minds."

"Yeah, did you see Nurturing Hoof?" Shinning Armor asked.

Cadance rolled her eyes, "I don't think she's been that mad since she caught us playing in the fountains out here."

"Well, I guess she's worried about your reputation." Shinning Armor winced, "And she may have a point."

"Oh to Tartarus with my reputation," Cadance replied with annoyance, "If I want to take a walk with you in the gardens then I am going to take a walk with you in the gardens, every pony's opinion about it be damned."

Shinning Armor laughed, "Yeah, it's so silly. I mean we're best friends, every pony knows that."

"I know, ridiculous isn't it?" Cadance chuckled awkwardly, "I mean, why they can't just mind their own business?"

The conversation suddenly went silent as the two of them gazed into each other's eyes. Suddenly trembling and unsure of what he was doing, Shinning Armor, slowly his head moved towards hers. Giving him a smile of encouragement, she turned to meet his lips, her heart pounding in her chest as she waited for the moment she had longed for since she had been a school filly.

Then suddenly alarm bells sounded.

Shinning Armor looked quickly in the direction the sound was coming from, "What could that be about?"

"Shinning Armor," Bravely Charging yelled, rushing over with Twilight following behind, "Someone's trying to rob the Armory! Iron Forge wants us to check it out while he rounds up the boys."

Shinning Armor looked over at Cadance, who said, "Go."

As the two of them rushed off, Twilight walked over to Cadance who looked up at the sky with a sad frustrated expression.

"You okay?" Twilight asked.

"So close," She sighed.

"Huh?" Twilight asked confused.

"It's nothing, I'm fine" Cadance lied, "we'd better go inside."

Several guards sat tied up, sleeping as the music box played a haunting melody throughout the armory. Under their boss's supervision, the Earth Pony mercenaries grabbed everything they could, quickly loading everything from magical charms, to enchanted weapons into various sacks.

"Alright boys," Striking Hammer began, speaking loudly over the music, "Let's wrap this up and get our flanks out of…." Suddenly the sound of the alarm bells rang through the air as the music box closed and was silent.

The two ponies guarding the front entrance came rushing in, "Boss, we've been spotted. One of the royal guards saw us and rushed off to gather the rest."

Striking Hammer swore and said, "Grab what you can we're leaving now!"

'The Royal Guard is going to be swarming the place in a few seconds," One of his mercenaries said fearfully, "How are we going to get out of here?"

Looking over the floor thinking quickly, Striking Hammer reached into one of the sacks and took out a glowing orb with lighting bouncing around inside, "Get back!" he ordered and then he hurled it onto the floor. There was a loud thunderous explosion and when the dust settled a large hole was open on the floor. A foul smell mixed with the scent of electricity, "Into the sewers now!"

Quickly obeying his commands, his troops jumped into the hole. Looking down at his ponies, standing in some black sludge he didn't even want to know the composition of, Striking Hammer said, "Alright split up and meet back at base camp. I'll join you as soon as I can."

"What are you going to do?" They asked.

"What do you think I am going to do?" He replied with annoyance, "Cover your escape! Now move it!"

Once they were gone, Striking Hammer quickly left the main room, closing the door behind him. Using a key he had lifted off of one of the guards he quickly locked the door and then placed it neatly in his saddle bag and walked out of the main entrance.

Standing there waiting for reinforcements, Bravely Charging and Shinning Armor both ignited their horns, "Halt, you're under arrest."

Striking Hammer looked them over with amused contempt and continuing on his way, said, "Out of my way, boys."

Bravely Charging moved to block his path, "Where do you think you're going?"

"Home and hopefully to bed," Striking Hammer replied, "And if you've got any brains you won't try to stop me."

"The only place you're going is to the dungeons." Shinning Armor said firmly, "Now surrender."

"Alright then," Striking Hammer flashed them a half smile, "If you want to get your flanks whooped that badly, let's play."

Shinning Armor and Bravely Charging moved to flank him, as he stood up on his black legs, two long black metal blades erupting from the bracers on his front feet. Glancing between the two of them, he was suddenly engulfed in a blue light, as the two unicorns attempted to lift him with their magic.

Pressing down with one hoof, be launched himself into the air, flying out of the glow, coming down on Bravely Charging. Grabbing him, he rolled along his back, tossing the young unicorn like a sack of flour into a messy fall onto the ground.

Shinning Armor jumped forward with a lunge, which Striking Hammer parried with his blades, as the two stood with their weapons locked.

"How!?" Shinning Armor grunted.

"Dragon Steel," Striking smiled, "Your magic won't hurt them." He shifted his weight, "by the way, you do know Earth Ponies are much stronger than unicorns, right?" and with that pulled shinning Armor forward tossing him over his hip. The Mercenary then spun, just in time to parry a slash from Bravely Charging, and followed up with a kick that made the young colt see stars as the young unicorn tumbled to the ground.

Shinning Armor leapt to his feet, his eyes full of anger as he readied to charge.

"You're making a mistake." Striking Hammer cautioned and as Shinning Armor began to race towards him, he shrugged,"Have it your way."

Just as Shinning Armor was about to strike, Striking Hammer dropped low, and the young unicorn's eyes widened as he went tumbling over him falling hard on his face

Shaking his head, the Earth Pony said, "I tried to warn you."

Dazed, Bravely Charging got to his feet and stumbled over making a clumsy attack. Dodging it easy, Striking gave him a back hoof that sent him back to the ground unconscious.

As he looked towards the sound of more hooves approaching, the mercenary looked down at Shinning Armor and said, "Sorry boys, better luck next time." And with that he ran off, disappearing into the darkness."

Shinning Armor tried to get up to follow, but slowly sank back down as the world grew still and quiet around him.

A while later he awoke in a comfortable bed, with the feeling of a moist cloth on his head. Sitting up, he felt a hoof gently pushing him back down, "Easy there, you've had several nasty bumps on the head tonight."

Not up to arguing the point, Shinning Armor slowly laid back down. As his eyes came back into focus, he saw a nurse turning to some pony, "He's regained consciousness, Captain. Bravely Charging?"

"He's fine," Iron Forge replied walked over, "Thank Celestia for that thick skull of his." He began, "it took quite a beating."

"That Pony," Shinning Armor began, "Did you catch him?"

"No, he gave us the slip," Iron Forge replied, "Whoever did this was a real pro, they looted the armory and headed out through the sewers. We found a few coverings opened throughout the city but that's all. Right now we suspect it to be Earth Pony terrorists, possibly linked to that nut job Active Voice, but without proof there is little we can do about it. Speaking of proof can you tell me about your attacker?"

"Not much, he's an Earth Pony, strong as an ox and well versed in hoof to hoof combat. He also had a set of blades that came out of bracers on his front legs. He said they were made of dragon steel." Shinning Armor explained.

"Ah, I think I know who were dealing with then." Iron Forge replied, "And if he's involved we have a serious problem on our hooves." Iron Forge sighed.

"Sorry I wasn't about to stop him." Shinning Armor apologized.

"Don't feel bad, Cadet Armor, Every pony loses a fight from time to time, even me. The Important thing is, you and Bravely Charging just have a few bruises. Believe me, given Striking Hammer's reputation it could have been a lot worse." He then added, "And once you've recuperated we're going to catch him and whoever else is behind this."

Shinning Armor smiled, "I can't wait."

"Now, there is someone else here who wants to see you." Iron Forge turned to the doorway, "You can come in now."

Cadance came in still wearing the dress from the party, seeing him her eyes filled with tears as she rushed to his side, "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine," he replied, "Just a little sore."

"Can I get you anything?" She asked.

"Really Cadance, I'm fine." Shinning Armor replied, wincing "Aside from feeling like I was hit by a wagon."

"I'll leave you two to talk." Iron Forge said, taking his leave.

As Iron Forge walked into the hall way, he was met by Moon Stone who stopped him and asked, "I hope Cadets Armor and Bravely Charging will be all right."

"They'll mend," Iron Forge replied.

"These Earth Ponies are simply out of control." Moon Stone began with contempt, "Something must be done about this Active Voice and his lot before worse happens. Wouldn't you agree, Captain?"

"I don't have solid proof Active Voice had anything to do with this." Iron Forge replied, "But I do think whoever was had outside help."

"What makes you say that?" Moon Stone asked.

Iron Forge's horn glowed as he pulled the music box from his saddle bag,

Looking it over, Moon Stone said, "Interesting, if I am not mistaken it holds a powerful sleep spell affecting anything within a certain radius."

"You can say that again. It put all the guards assigned to the armory in dream land, making it easy picking for Striking Hammer and his band of thugs." Iron Forge replied, "I am just confused on how they could have gotten their hooves on something like this. That and it makes no sense, magic isn't his style."

"Would you allow me to examine it more closely?" Moon Stone replied,"I may be able to shed some light on that very question or find a means to track it back to those responsible for this attack."

Iron Forge shrugged as he gave it to him, "You're head of the Ring of Defense."

"Indeed I am, Captain", Moon Stone smiled, "Indeed I am."
