9 To 5 (ch. 14)

New update! Enjoy!

DISCLAIMER: I don't own Glee! If I did, it'd be the Klaine/Brittana show.

Early Saturday morning, Blaine woke up, getting straight to work. For the past couple of days, he'd been quite busy and now was not the time to sit around. Things needed to be done, and he'd do them.

"Okay, so..first off, call the Razor Lounge to see if I can book a spot for Darcy's prom, then call Pearson to schedule an interview for KT to go to school, tidy up the house, get Cooper'a birthday gift, organize a set list and costumes for sectionals, get Christmas decorations and gifts, plan KT's birthday party, and then call Kurt," he said, sighing afterwards.

Luckily for him, it was the weekend so there was no school/work that day, so he could stay home and (hopefully) achieve some of his goals.

Blaine sat at the table, typing rapidly on the computer, sending an email to Vivi Hollingsworth, the principle of Pearson Community Day School, the preschool through third grade facility Blaine was applying KT to attend. He'd learned that children of Kurt's friends went there, and his co-worker Lia's son William was going there as well, so there was a pretty good chance she'd have an easier time making friends.

He continued typing and cradled his phone between his neck and ear as he heard the rings play, waiting for the owner of the Razor Lounge to pick up.

He was also looking through a catalog of Christmas gifts while doing the two other things, making his mind jumbled.

"Hello, this is Carla from the Razor Lounge speaking, how may I help you?"

"Navy blue 1,000 thread count sheets and matching comforter set only $35...ooh, interesting.." He mumbled as he looked at the catalogue. He suddenly realized that someone else was on the phone with him.

"Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry! Uh, hi. My name's Blaine Anderson, I called about 2 days back asking if I could book a space at your venue for the 22nd of April? I know it's only December right now, but I want to get a place early so I won't need to worry in April. Um, I need a spot for a high school prom, and I figured Razor Lounge would be ideal."

He could sense the bright smile of Carla through the phone. "Well, you're correct about that! The Razor Lounge provides spaces for many events-parties, receptions, bar mitzvah-"

"In need of a prom space," Blaine interrupted, emphasizing the word "prom".

"Right. So, you need it the 22nd of April?" Carla asked.

"Yes, ma'am," Blaine replied.

"Alright, let me see what I can find and I will give you a call back!"

Blaine grinned. Progress.

"Alrighty, thanks so much!"

Carla hung up and Blaine got back to his work. After finishing the email, he made a list of Christmas and also a few birthday presents for KT and Cooper to go shop for soon, and then chose to try to clean up a bit while the child was still asleep.

He sprung to his feet and jogged to the kitchen, filling up the sink to do dishes. He sang cute little Disney songs (a tradition in the Anderson home) while doing so, and then decided to mop up the floors, clean the windows, organize clutter, and take out the garbage.

Once the house was clean to his liking, he looked at the clock. Ten AM. KT was usually awake by this time, he figured, and walked to her room to check on her.

"KT, honey, you up..?" He asked quietly, tiptoeing into the room.

He heard small coughs and moaning noises.

"Oh, baby girl..are you sick?" He kneeled down next to her bed and checked her forehead with this hand. Hot.

He sighed. Great, just great.

"Let me go get the thermometer, kid. Stay here, okay?"

She nodded quietly before having another coughing fit.

Blaine sighed again and ran to the bathroom cabinet to get the thermometer and now, also, some cough syrup. He sped into the kitchen and filled up her bright orange sippy cup with some apple juice (she'd definitely need that to deal with the awful taste of the medicine) and retreated back to the girl's room.

"I'm back, sweetie. Can you sit up for me?" He asked, feeling like a doctor. Originally, back in high school, he'd had a dream of becoming a pediatrician, but eventually switched to being a teacher.

Katheryn Tess obeyed, sitting up slowly and moaning.

"Aw, yeah, I know. Being sick isn't very fun," he says, rubbing her arm gently. "Open your mouth up real wide, kiddo."

She again obeyed and opened up her mouth, displaying a few baby teeth and a pink tongue.

Blaine set the thermometer inside of her mouth ever so carefully and waited a few seconds before taking it out. He looked at it and frowned. 96.3..Oh no.

"What, daddy?" She asked quietly, speaking her first words of the day.

"You're quite sick," Blaine replied. "Looks like you'll have to stay in bed and have me take care of you."

"Play," she mumbled, a small frown on her chubby, flushed face.

"No play, KT. You're sick..you need some rest. We'll play when you feel better, alright?"

She thought for a second, then nodded, coughing again.

"Oh, uh, that reminds me.." He said slowly. "Um, close your eyes."

KT did as she was told and shut her blue/gray eyes abruptly. "Supwise?"

"Something like that.." Blaine muttered before quickly pouring some cough medicine onto a spoon. "Keep your eyes closed, baby. Open up your mouth again."

She slowly opened her mouth, clearly afraid of what might be happening.

Blaine took the opportunity to quickly slip the medicine into Katheryn Tess' mouth and clapped his hand over it before she could spit it out.

At an instant, her eyes shot open and she looked ready to vomit.

She made disapproving muffled noises and struggled, not happy about being tricked into taking cough syrup.

"Just swallow it. I got you some juice to take after its done." Blaine picked up the sippy cup and waved it around as proof.

The baby made another noise then swallowed, to Blaine's satisfaction.

"Bad! Bad! Coff serwup bad! Bad!" She complained in a raspy voice.

"I know, I'm sorry, KT." He gave her the sippy cup and smiled slightly. "Thanks for being a big girl for daddy and taking it..it'll make your nasty cough go away real soon," he says, trying to cheer her up.

"Coff go bye bye?"

"Cough go bye bye," Blaine responded. He ran a hair through her messy curls and watched her drink the apple juice rapidly.

"C'mon, kid. Potty time." He chuckled, then picked her up before taking her to the bathroom.

"What do you want for Christmas and your birthday, KT?" He asked curiously after she was done.

She thought. "Um..papa.."

Blaine froze. "Wait..what..?"

"I want papa."

Blaine knew those words would one day escape from his dear daughter's lips, but he just never expected them to come so soon.

Naturally, the fact that Sebastian was no longer around and would never be able to be around for Katheryn Tess like she'd want him to broke Blaine's heart.

Everything. Was. Perfect. They were a family, the three of them. And though it was only for about a week, those were the days that he'd never forget. The way Sebastian would look down at KT, their little baby, and he'd smile the happiest smile, and he'd hold her close and secure, and proved that he loved his girl more than anything.

He missed those days. Even before KT was born, Sebastian was ecstatic about becoming a parent. Whether it was a boy or a girl, he'd made a promise to give that child all the love and care in the world.

He never really got a real chance to prove that he could be a good dad. Sebastian wanted to, of course, but he never got to live out that dream.

So now it was up to Blaine to do what his late husband didn't get the chance to, and with that came the harsh reality of telling his daughter the truth.

Blaine sighed and sat down, cradling KT in his arms as if she was a baby again. He brushed her messy dark curls out of her face and looked into her eyes, which expressed all of the hope that maybe she would see her daddy on Christmas.

Guilt instantly took over Blaine. He sighed and began to speak. "Oh, come here, baby girl..um, we need to talk."

"Trouble?" The girl asked warily.

Blaine shook his head. "Oh, no, no, you're not in trouble. We need to talk about your, uh, want you wanted for Christmas."

"Papa," she said as a reminder before sneezing.

Blaine reached over and grabbed a tissue from the box of Kleenex, giving it to her. "There you go."

She wiped her nose messily. "Papa," she repeated once more.

"I know. Listen, sweetie, um..I'm so sorry..." He said, faltering a bit. "But I can't get you papa."

"Why?" She asked, looking up at him.

He sighed. "He's up there," Blaine said slowly, pointing to the ceiling.

"Roof?" KT was clearly confused. She wrinkled her eyebrows.

"Oh, no, not the roof. He's up in the clouds with the angels, sweetheart." He waited reluctantly for a response, any kind of response from his daughter.

"He come down?"

The words echoed in Blaine's head. Come down.

KT believed there was a possibility that her dead father would be able to come down from the heavens and be with her.

The expression "kids say the darnedest things" had nothing on KT's words.

Blaine couldn't look at his baby right then. The look in her eyes sent him into a spiral of guilt and sadness.

"He can't," he said softly. "Remember what I told you a while ago? I said that papa was up in the sky with the angels and he was gone to be with them forever. Once you go up there, you can't come down. But..but it's okay. Papa is watching over you and me right at this very second, beautiful. And I know that he loves us so very much. You were-no, you are really important to him, KT. You're far too young to fully get it now, but one day when you are older, you'll understand. Okay?"

KT thought, trying to comprehended all of her father's words.

"No come down.." She says quietly, as if to test the words on her tongue.

"He can't come down. I'm so so sorry baby," Blaine said in a shaky voice, threatening to spill.

"No cry, daddy," KT said, wiping Blaine's tear stained cheeks with her chubby little hand. "Love papa, love you."

Blaine smiled slightly, sniffling. His daughter really was strong.

"I love you too, my baby girl. So much." He hugged her softly, kissing her head.

Suddenly, for the first time, the sun came out during the cold winter day.

Meanwhile, in Kurt's world, he had work off for the day so he decided to spend some time with Rachel and Mercedes.

"I love the days when we all get to hang out," Rachel said with a grin.

Kurt and Mercedes nodded in agreement as they devoured their tasty breakfast at a local cafe.

After a few minutes of happy chatter, Mercedes finally set down her fork and looked to Kurt, a sly grin on her face.

'Uh-oh,' he thought.

"So..I just gotta know, since no one's talking 'bout it..

How are you and Mr. Hotpants?"

"You mean Blaine?" Kurt asked, taking a sip of his juice slowly.

Mercedes and Rachel both nodded.

"Mmhmm.."

Kurt couldn't help but smile at the mention of Blaine.

"Things with us are going well," he says happily. "Blaine's a great guy, I like him a lot. And his daughter is adorable!"

Rachel smiled. "Yes! Katheryn Tess and Lea should really have a play date sometime!"

"I'd have to talk to B about that, but I'm sure he'd say yes." Kurt shot Rachel a thumbs up before taking another sip of his drink.

"Do you think y'all will stay together for a long time?" Mercedes asked curiously.

Kurt thought. "I don't know, but I'd like to. I hope so. He's the first good thing I've had in a long time-aside from you guys, of course-and I knew from the second I met him that I wanted him to be mine. And while it finally happened, I'm actually scared that it won't last for long.." He admitted quietly.

Rachel and Mercedes rubbed his back comfortingly.

"Aw, K, don't say that. You guys really like each other. And yeah, it hasn't been very long, but what with the way you two feel for each other, it should last," the short brunette said with a smile. Mercedes nodded and patted his cheek.

Kurt grinned. "You really think so?"

"Honey, please. Do you know how many times Finn and I broke up and got back together before we married? I don't, actually, because I lost count," Rach said with a chuckle, "Let's just agree it was quite a few times. But the reason we worked out in the end was because of the way we felt about one another. I've loved him since I was pretty much a kid, and he's loved me too. We always found our way back to each other because it was meant to be. Now we're husband and wife, with a little girl, and I honestly couldn't be happier. I could've lived a life without having any of that, but we love each other too much for that to have happened.

The same will happen for you and Blaine. Even in the unfortunate event that you guys break up, if it's meant to be, you'll find your way back to each other and everything will be okay. And I'll be in the front row at your wedding with my signature 1,000 watt smile and I sign that reads: "I TOLD YOU SO"!" She says, smiling brightly.

The three friends simultaneously broke into laughter.

"Oh, I love you Rachel! Thank you," Kurt said, hugging her.

"No love for Cedes?" The girl faked a pout.

"But of course! Get in here," the man said happily, pulling Mercedes into the hug.

"I have faith in you and Blaine too, buddy. Y'all are gonna make it," she adds.

"Thank you Cedes. I love you."

Mercedes smiles and they all pay for their food before leaving to go to Rachel's place.

On the drive there, Kurt began thinking to himself quietly. Mercedes and Rachel sat in the front seat, gabbing on and on about that latest celebrity gossip, while he was alone in the back, staring out of the window.

A light December snow fell from the sky and onto the ground softly, melting as it touched the pavement. Kurt began to think about something he never wanted to remember..his suicide attempt.

There was a point and time during his life where nothing was going right. He was forced to drop out of college, he was dirt poor, the man he dreamed of marrying turned out to be a drug dealer, and he had a crappy job.

He kept waiting for the day when things would start looking up for him, but for some reason it just seemed as if it would never ever come.

Why live if there's nothing good to live for? He'd question himself. Kurt would later come to regret that statement very much.

There were people who loved him. Even before Blaine, there were people who cared about him and his well being and would be there when he needed them.

His parents and friends gave him hope. And after a long time and pacing back and forth around his home, praying to a god he didn't even believe in, and thinking alone, heads a decision.

The people that he loved and cared for deserved to know.

They deserved to know that Kurt had tried to take his own life.

As Rachel turned on some Real Housewives special or whatnot, Kurt snuggled on the couch in between them, grateful for such amazing friends. Sure they had their ups and downs, but it was always good in the end.

"I'll tell them and everyone else soon," he promised himself. He'd kept quiet for far too long, and it was now the time where he needed to be honest.

The truth will set you free, he kept telling himself later that day when he went back to his apartment.

He decided to call Blaine. Maybe he could help. Seeing as how Kurt had already told Blaine about the situation, he figured that the curly haired man understood and could hopefully give him advice.

Anxiety piled up inside of him as he dialed the number on his keypad.

The rings echoed in his ears as he sat in the corner of his bedroom, staring down at the floor.

Blaine finally picked up. "Hello?"

"Um, hey," Kurt said quietly, voice shaking against his will.

The dark haired man frowned, setting down the plans for his choirs' Sectionals competition he'd been working on for the past hour. "Is everything okay..?"

"Um..no. I need, help, I guess?" Kurt responded softly. "With something serious."

"Oh." Blaine didn't know what else to say. He was willing to help his boyfriend, nevertheless. He cared about him, so of course he'd help.

"I want to..

I um, I need to tell my..I need to tell my friends and family that..that I tried to commit suicide. They..they r-really deserve to know, and I've, um..I've kept quiet for way too long. It's time that I tell them.."

This wasn't easy for Kurt to say, both men knew that. Blaine was proud of him for making the choice to be honest with his loved ones.

He sighed softly. "I'm proud of you."

Kurt was taken aback, sniffling a bit. "Y-you are?"

"I truly am. It's not an easy thing to tell people-especially ones you're close with something heavy like that. But you're strong, stronger than you know, and I'm proud of you for wanting to tell everyone. And I'll be there with you every step of the way, I promise. I know when most people promise that they'll stay, they never do-I know that, but hear me Kurt, when I say that I WILL be with you while you do this and I'll try my very best to help you out as much as possible.

Together we'll get through this, alright?"

Kurt listened to the words and smiled softly. To trust or not to trust, that was the question.

He trusted Blaine. It'd been a long time since he could truly trust anyone, and now he felt that maybe he could.

"Thank you so much," he said quietly, wiping his eyes. "I've been thinking on this for a while now and I'm so unbelievably happy to know that I have you on my side. Just..thank you."

"Anytime, Kurt." Blaine smiled. "If you ever need anything, don't hesitate to ask. You and I, we are a team now, and I want to be with you and help you in every way possible. Okay?"

"Yeah. I'll try my best to help you too, you mean a lot to me." Kurt smiled softly.

Blaine blushed. "Do you need anything else?"

"Um, no. But I'm off today..I was wondering if you wanted to hang out? If you're available, anyway." Kurt walked back and forth around his place.

Blaine sighed. "Can't. I'm super busy today with a lot of stuff and-"

"Need some help?"

The shorter man smirked and thought for a second. "I thought you'd never ask. Can you come in about 20 minutes or so?"

Kurt grabbed his keys, wallet, and bag. "I'm out the door now."

Kurt knocked on the door and waited patiently, shivering slightly. It sure was cold outside.

"Hey you!" Blaine greeted a few seconds later, grinning widely. He always smiled like a dork when Kurt came around.

Kurt's cheeks turned a bit red, and it didn't have anything to do with the cold December weather. "H-Hi. Can I come in..?"

Blaine wanted to slap himself in the face. Why'd he just stand there like a moron while his boyfriend was out in the cold?! Because he was love struck, goofy, scatter-brained Blaine Anderson, that's why.

"Oh, yeah..of course!" He stepped aside and let the other boy come into the apartment, smiling. "Make yourself comfortable."

Kurt nodded graciously and blushed as Blaine took his coat and hung it up on the coatrack.

"Um, I brought take-out," the brunette said shyly, taking a few boxes of Chinese food out of a brown bag. "I didn't know if you guys had eaten yet, I figured you probably hadn't because you've been so busy and didn't have the time to eat and I just wanted to make sure-"

Blaine cut Kurt off with a sweet kiss. "Thank you, honey. That was really nice of you."

"Mmhmm.." The taller boy replied. He couldn't process real words at the moment. Surprise kisses were always one favorite of his.

Blaine smiled. "I'm going to go get KT..poor baby's sick, but I'm sure she'd love some lunch. I'll be right back, k?"

Kurt nodded and waited, looking around the house.

'Imagine if this was your home, too! You could come home from work to this place every day, and just feel...right. Safe. Comfortable. You'd have a real home with Blaine and Katheryn Tess and you'd enjoy where you lived for the first time in years. How amazing that would be.

Maybe one day..' He thought quietly to himself, blushing at the thought.

He pictured having Christmas here. A real one that wasn't so lonely, with a boyfriend to buy gifts for, and Christmas carols to sing with him, and lifting up a little girl so that she could put the star on top of the tree.

Kurt thought. If things work out, if he and Blaine last long like he hoped they would, maybe it's possible that all his so called "impossible" dreams and fantasies of things like having a real family of his own, a real Christmas that he didn't spend alone or just with the Hudson-Berry household, a real life that he could spend taking care of a kid and having a loving partner by his side, maybe all those things could come true.

A few minutes later, his thoughts were interrupted by the sounds of little tiny feet padding across the hardwood floors of Blaine's apartment.

KT walked up to Kurt shyly, her teddy bear in hand.

"Hi Mr. Kurt," she said softly, coughing a little.

He bent down to be eye level with the girl.

"Aw, hi sweetie! Your daddy told me you were sick?"

She nodded, frowning.

"I'm sorry to hear that, KT. How about we watch a Disney movie..would that cheer you up?" He asked curiously.

The child brightened. "Ya! Ya!" She exclaimed in a raspy voice.

"Alrighty! Which one do you want to watch?"

"Little Mermaid," she answered almost instantly.

Kurt smiled. That had been one of his favorites ever since he was about her age.

He picked her up, singing "Part Of Your World" sweetly in a gentle voice before quickly finding the film and popping it into the DVD player.

She smiled. "Pwetty voice."

"Why thank you, my dear." He tickled her, and she erupted into lively giggles.

Kurt smiled. Little did he know, Blaine had been watching them, happy as could be.

He'd been having the same thoughts as Kurt. Maybe they could have a real family one day, the three of them. They could have Christmases that weren't lonely, and Blaine would have help taking care of his daughter, something he'd severely wanted ever since Sebastian had died. Everything could be possible and amazing.

Maybe one day, Blaine thought. He put the Chinese takeout on plates and brought it into the living room where his boyfriend and daughter were, smiling as he saw them giggling at the beginning credits of the movie.

"Ooh, you're just in time! Me and KT decided on The Little Mermaid!

And um, I know you're very busy, and I came over here to help you out and all that, and I will, it's just that she's sick and she reminds me of a sad puppy, and I felt so guilty, I wanted to do something nice to cheer the little cupcake up-"

Blaine cut him off with a kiss again. Boom.

Kurt was blushing like crazy and KT smiled. "Kissies!"

"You're perfect," Blaine told the boy before taking a bite of his Orange Chicken.

'Not as perfect as the feeling I get when I'm with you,' Kurt thought.

*Hours later*

The day had turned out to be a success. With the help of a very organized and precise Kurt Hummel, he'd been able to plan things out the way he wanted and got all of his work done with little stress.

Blaine thought he'd never be able to do it, but as corny as it sounds, his superman swooped in at the right time and saved the day.

It was around ten at night when the men were cuddling on the couch watching Moulin Rouge. KT had fallen asleep and was carried to her bed by Kurt, which Blaine appreciated more than anything, and now it was just the two of them.

Kurt had always had a dream of singing "Come What May" at his wedding with the love of his life. It was far too early in their relationship to even consider marriage, but deep down inside, he was hoping and praying that he would get the chance to live out that fantasy with Blaine.

"What's going on in that pretty head of yours?" Blaine asked curiously once he noticed Kurt wasn't really watching the movie.

The taller boy was lucky it was dark in the room so that Blaine couldn't see him blushing.

"Nothing much, I'm just tired," he lied. "I should probably get home..."

"Or you could stay the night?"

Kurt froze. "Really..? You want me to-"

"I know that we are upside down,

So hold you breath and hear me out,

I know that we were made to break, So what? I don't mind..

You kill the lights, I'll draw the blinds,

Don't dull the sparkle in your eyes,

I know that we were made to break,

So what? I don't mind..

Are you gonna stay the night? Are you gonna stay the night? Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh oh oh, are you gonna..stay the night?" Blaine sang smoothly.

The taller boy couldn't believe that his boyfriend was actually singing to him. Wow.

"Um, okay. Yeah, definitely." Kurt smiled shyly.

Blaine grinned and hugged him. "Thank you."

Kurt just kissed his cheek, eventually falling into a deep sleep.

The shorter boy chuckled lightly and fell asleep as well, wrapping his arms gently around him.

In the morning, Kurt woke up to the smell of crisp bacon and fresh eggs frying. The sound of Blaine's gorgeous voice singing out "Sunday Morning" by Maroon 5 echoed in his ears. He chuckled, not only because it was Sunday morning, but because he was happy. He hadn't woken up to such great things in a while, and it felt really nice.

He walked into the kitchen and hugged Blaine gently around the waist, kissing his shoulder. "Good morning, babe."

"Good morning!" Blaine replied cheerfully. "How'd you sleep?"

"Perfectly. Thanks again for letting me stay over."

"Oh, of course. If we're going to be honest here, I was hoping and praying that you'd stay the night.." He admitted, chuckling.

Kurt blushed for about the millionth time in the past 12 hours.

"You're an amazing boyfriend," he said. "If you don't remember anything else I ever say to you, just know that. Okay?"

Blaine kissed him slowly. "Just as long as you'll promise to do the same?"

"You got it." Kurt smiled and hugged Blaine again.
