I do not own glee or any of the characters! :D I did write the poem :D
In another life, I would be your girl
We keep all our promises, be us against the world
In another life, I would make you stay
So, I don't have to say you were the one that got away
The one that got away – The one that got away- Katy Perry
Misery…
As tears slid down my cheeks, I wonder why?
Do I keep holding on to you? You're like a ghost haunting me, the memories
I have of you hurts me. Because I'm living in my dreams and not reality.
Why did you let me go? Don't you know that I'm dying real slow because my heart
has turned against me It is now the enemy, it refuses to move on and let you go.
Even though it was you that caused it so much pain, so much misery… - Mercedes Jones
"STEVIE SLOW DOWN!"
Mercedes was screaming at the top of her lungs as Stevie swerved in and out of different lanes on I-75. Cars honked angrily at him as he cut in front of them, almost clipping them with the tailgate of his Dodge Ram 1500 Truck.
"I love you," Stevie slurred angrily. "It's your fault, I love you and it's killing me… why can't you love me." His green eyes, which held so much pain in them, were bloodshot from drinking. Even so, the green that shone reminded her of Sam. Mercedes's heart was broke.
"I do love you," Mercy cried out earnestly. Stevie laughed without humor as he gripped the steering wheel so tightly that his knuckles turned white. "Please slow down," whispered Mercy. Her heart was beating with terror as she watched the speedometer reach 120, nearly doubling the 65-mile speed limit.
"You don't love me like you love Sam," He spat bitterly.
"I'm so sorry Stevie, please don't do this." Stevie smiled sadly as tears ran down his cheeks.
"It's too late." He made a sharp turn making Mercedes slide roughly in her seat and causing her to bang her head against the window. He crossed the median and began driving in the wrong direction on the freeway. A loud, blaring horn of a semi-truck made Mercedes's heart drop. Stevie smirked evilly. "I'll see you in Hell." 'Oh God!' Mercedes thought as she closed her eyes, bracing for impact.
Mercedes woke up with a start, her heart beating frantically as her body froze with terror. She had a nightmare of Stevie again. It felt like each nightmare was getting worse. She shivered, her body damp with sweat. She glanced over at Sam who was sleeping peacefully. Sam would hate her if he ever found out the truth. Hell, Mercy already hated herself. She sighed, frustrated that each day is getting harder to survive, that this burden is getting harder to carry. Mercy brushed her hair behind her ear and spared a glance at her clock on her dresser. 4:00 a.m. She groaned aloud. Well since she was already up she might as well clean up the mess Sam and Hayden made in the living room.
Flash Back******
"I need you to talk to me Mercy," Will begged with a broken heart, tears brimming in his soulful, hazel eyes. He gently grabbed Mercedes's hands as she laid in the hospital bed. It's been a week since that dreadful night where Will found Mercy half dead in her bathroom tub and she hasn't spoken a word since. Mercedes hardly noticed his touch. She has been sightlessly staring at her stitched-up wrist. Earlier she overheard the doctors talk amongst themselves about her,
"She actually attempted suicide the right way, ya know. Down the river instead of across the pond. If her friend hadn't arrived when he did, she would have surely died." 'If only' Mercy thought bitterly. Mercedes was so angry at Will she wanted to scream from the depths of her shattered soul so that even God would take notice of her fury...or better yet her pain. But like always, God has been ignoring her… 'FUCK HIM' Mercy thought angrily. Mercy licked her dry bottom lip and slowly raised her brown eyes to Will's concerned ones.
"I wish you would have let me die," Mercedes whispered tearfully. "This pain is too much to bare, it feels like I'm drowning in this dark abyss and every time I try to reach for air, an ocean of suffocating waves clash into me and drag me further into despair." Will gently grabbed Mercedes hands as he looked into her beautiful, brown eyes.
"Stevie wouldn't want you to hurt yourself or blame yourself for his death, he loved you." Mercy sighed.
"I know." Will shook his head,
"No, you really don't have a clue of how much Stevie loved you, and I hope that what I'm about to share with you does more good than harm." Will breathed out roughly. "Do you remember when the four of us were all kids, You, Me, Stevie and Sam? From elementary school through high school the four of us have been inseparable. You and Stevie even more so." Mercedes smiled sadly.
"Yeah he was my best friend, we always hung out together." Will nodded,
"It was more than that and you know it." Mercy's heart ached as she remembers the crush she had on Stevie, but at the time Stevie showed no romantic interest whatsoever in Mercedes, so she figured that Stevie only saw her as a friend. As time moved on she gotten over her crush and around that time Sam and Mercedes started noticing each other. It was also around the time she received an anonymous love poem and guessed it was from Sam since he was the only guy that showed interest in her. Mercy started to smile, it was because of that love poem that she gave Sam a chance. "Do you remember that anonymous love letter you got in high school?" Will asked gently. Mercy rolled her eyes. Of course she still has the first love letter Sam gave to her. Why was Will bringing it up now Mercedes wondered. "Sam didn't write the letter, Stevie did," Will said softly.
