Clare's POV

"Clare?"

I was being shaken from the darkness, my panic attack fresh in my mind. K.C.'s gleaming eyes were dark and sinister, glaring back at me in my mind.

"Clare?" This voice was different from the first. I recognized it as Adam's; assuming that the last one was Eli's.

"Clare." Eli's voice sounded panicked. I didn't like the sound of it like that. I slowly opened my eyes, to see Adam and Eli hovering over me.

"Thank god." Adam exhaled.

"I didn't mean to startle you." I stated, rubbing my head and sitting up.

"Oh. Clare." Eli sighed, sitting back against the wall.

"How long was I out?" I asked.

"Only a few minutes." Adam answered.

"At most." Eli agreed.

"Great. I thought I was getting a handle again on these." I stated.

"Again?" Adam asked.

"You mean, you've had these before you came here?" Eli cut in.

"Yeah. For the past two years or so." I stated.

"It's him isn't it? That guy that Fitz taunted you with." Eli stated, realization crossing his face.

"What guy?" Adam asked confused.

"He's no one." I stated quickly.

"He's obviously someone if he got to you." Eli continued. I didn't want to tell them. I couldn't tell them. I couldn't. A cry sounded from outside the room, before I had a chance to figure out an excuse. Adam perked up immediately.

"Uh oh. In coming." Adam stated sadly.

"What?" I asked confused.

"Newbie." Eli stated. "They must have found someone."

The door was thrown open, and the person was herded into the room. I could tell it was a girl, but that was it. She was tossed to the floor, and was out of it. Adam was over to the door in a flash. The guard holding the girl threw her into the room, and Adam crouched next to her. I tried to go, but Eli held me back.

"Eli. Wha—" I asked.

"Wait until the guard leaves." Eli stated meeting my gaze. I nodded in response and went back to looking at the girl.

There was something familiar about her. She was crying, sobbing was more like it, while the guard slammed the door. As soon as the door was shut, I went over to the girl. I turned her over, so I could look at her face, when the recognition set in. It seemed to happen to her to.

"Clare?" Alli sobbed.

"Alli?" I asked confused.

"Oh god, Clare. They took me. Oh god. They killed Sav. They shot him! Oh god." Alli sobbed into me, pulling me to her level.

"Who did it?" Eli asked kneeling down next to me. "Was it Fitz?"

What? No." She stated shaking her head.

"Who was it, Alli?" I asked.

"It was—" Alli broke off from crying and didn't speak anymore.

"Who, Alli? Who was it?" I pleaded. Alli remained silent, and Eli seemed to know why.

"She can't tell you." He stated. "They probably threatened her."

"Which means that you know the guy." Adam stated.

"This also means that neither of you were random. You were targets. I don't know why you were taken." Eli said looking at me, before turning to Alli. "But I can guess you were forcing people to look for Clare. You angered them."

"You were, weren't you?" I asked her.

"I was skipping school with Sav. Handing out flyers and hanging up posters." Alli choked on her words.

"Alli. You didn't have to do that. You should've taken your finals." I reasoned.

"Really, Clare? Is school all you really think about?" Alli asked wiping her eyes, and sitting up.

"Of course. I mean it's by far the most important part of being successful." I stated.

"Somehow this doesn't surprise me." Eli cut in. I realized then, that she didn't know either of the guys.

"Alli. This is Eli and Adam." I stated gesturing to both of them.

"Who are all the rest?" She asked me.

"No idea, really. I know a few of them, but stay away. They aren't as nice as they seem." I warned.

"Clare. I think we should move away from them." Adam stated, looking at Eli.

"I agree." Eli replied.

We moved over to our side of the room, and I leaned against the wall, in between Eli and Alli. I was on the adjacent wall with Alli, facing Eli and Adam.

"What have I missed?" I asked.

"Not much. Finals have happened, as if you didn't know that." She stated.

"Project or essay?" I asked.

"Essay. My luck. As always." Alli grumbled.

"Dang. I would've gotten an A on that." I sighed. The door swung open, before anyone could react. Fitz stormed into the entry way and boomed with an announcement.

"No placements tonight. Hit the showers." Fitz stated.

Eli, Adam, and I all gave a breath in relief, but I was just as clueless as Alli is with the whole shower thing. I realize that Eli and Adam are definitely cleaner than most kids would be, when held captive for years, but I never thought about it.

"Let's go." Eli stood, holding his hand out for me. I took it, and we stood, following everyone out of the room.
