This chapter is part of the crossover that I talked about in Jenny the Avenger Chapter 26.
With the anti-air defences taken care of, it didn't take the Imperial Guard under Commissars Alluvien and Taylor long to take the planet. The lumbering Ork war machines were quickly taken out of action by the Valkyrie gunships, which then deployed units of Guardsmen to mop up any remaining Ork resistance. The Ork presence on the planet, while numerous, were disorganised in the extreme, many had been fighting against each other before the invasion, and being unprepared for such an attack, were unable to properly defend against them.
Jayne waited in the rooms the group had been given. As citizens of Alaitoc, her and Thirianna were surprised with how much the attitudes of the Imperial Guard had changed towards the Eldar. They had gone from hatred, to slight mistrust, to grudging respect in the span of a few days. She had heard of the fickle nature of human beings, but she didn't think it could change this fast. She was wary of staying too long, however, as if it could change this fast (a few seconds in the lifespan of an Eldar) then it could just as easily change in the other direction.
"When are you going to tell her?" Jayne turned around to see Thirianna standing at the door. The rune of the Banshee, and her own name rune were orbiting around her, on a collision course for each other.
"I wasn't," said Jayne "I've spent half my time with her avoiding that very fate. I know what happens afterwards, and I refuse to let that happen."
"Sometimes, fate is not a choice, Jayne," said Thirianna, her eyes pitying "Even the Farseers cannot stop some fates. The last time we tried, Ghazkull Thraka rose to invade a large section of the human Imperium. Since then, we tend to avoid what we call fixed points in time."
"I do not like having my choice taken from me," Jayne replied, her tone of voice not changing, but her body language shifting slightly to indicate distress.
Thirianna walked towards her and put her hand reassuringly on her arm. Jayne was surprised at the almost human gesture of reassurance.
"There are some things that have to be, Jayne," said Thirianna "I am sorry for the loss that is yet to come for you, but there are some things that must come to pass."
"That's what we are told our whole life, Thirianna," said Jayne, her irritation beginning to show in her tone "Is that not the philosophy of the Rhana Dandra? Our future written down in a book that spells either the doom, or rebirth of our race? I can't believe that, either. Travelling with Jenny has shown me that there's always another way. That shall not be my fate."
"It's a risky game you play," said Thirianna "Be mindful of the worse outcome your actions could bring about."
"I thank you for your wisdom, Thirianna," said Jayne, bowing her head.
"I do hope that you persevere, Jayne," said Thirianna "I have grown to appreciate your company."
"I hope so, too," said Jayne
The two of them left the room, as Thirianna sensed Jenny approaching the room.
Jenny saw her two Eldar companions approaching her. She had been helping with organising the planet after the Guard reoccupied it. There weren't much in the way of politicians among the Guard ranks, so governmental position was currently based on military rank. The conscripted members of this regiment were released from service, and began to return to the positions they had occupied prior to being driven from their homes. It would take a long time to get back to what they were before, but the higher ups were generally grateful to Jenny and the Eldar.
As she saw her Eldar companions, Jenny's vision blacked out. She saw a strange stone archway, filled with crackling blue energy, as a shadowy creature moved towards it. She saw Craftworld Alaitoc in flames, as massive, golden saucers fired bolts of blue energy towards it. Her vision then filled with red, and pulled back, until she saw a familiar sight: a metal robotic pepper pot-looking creature, which Jenny knew only too well. Jenny opened her eyes, realising that she was lying on a bed in the ship med bay. Looking to her left, she saw Thirianna lying on the bed next to her, and Jayne sitting in a chair at the foot of her own bed.
"What happened?" Jenny asked, her voice hoarse, as if she had been shouting a lot recently.
Jayne immediately ran to her, throwing her arms around Jenny. Surprised at the human gesture, Jenny hugged Jayne back, as she responded "You were screaming, Jenny, whatever you were seeing, it terrified you. It knocked both you and Thirianna out. I was almost knocked out myself with a throbbing in my head. What did you see?"
"Alaitoc in flames," Jenny looked over to see that Thirianna's eyes were open "Creatures of hate will destroy her. Tools of Chaos, or something else, I do not know."
"They are not Chaos," said Jenny, as flashes of the last time she had tangled with the Daleks came to her mind "Those creatures know nothing but hate. Inside those shells are creatures born to hate, born to kill and born to destroy."
"How do we fight that?" asked Thirianna. All of her runes were flying out of her pouch and orbiting her at breakneck speeds. Jenny watched as her own name rune flew from her pouch and split into five equally sized parts "Well, this doesn't make any sense."
"What doesn't?" asked Jenny "What do you see?"
Thirianna gestured for Jenny to see for herself. Jenny focused on the rune formation, and saw five Jennys fighting in defence of Craftworld Alaitoc.
"Can you make any sense of this?" asked Thirianna
"Some," said Jenny "Those other Jennys are clearly alternate reality versions of me from other universes. How far into the future is this?"
"Not long," said Thirianna "A week at the very most."
"That gives us more than enough time to send out a distress call," said Jenny "I'm going to need a few things."
In another universe, at another time…
Hi there, my name's Jen, Jen Stacy, I'm a Fanfiction character for a story that hasn't been written yet. You know my dad, the Doctor? Yeah, for anyone wondering, he's still Tennant's incarnation in this universe. We're posing as father and daughter, John and Jen Stacy, Dad's a police chief, I work as a physicist, and try to fix the TARDIS on the side. Unfortunately, I look young enough to be a college student, so also have to attend the local college. I don't attend any classes, and pass with flying colours. My dad taught me physics not long after I was 'born'. You know my origin story, right? Born from a progenation machine, from a single strand of my fathers' DNA, yada, yada, yada. What happens after Messaline is the subject of much speculation, and many fanfictions have explored that very idea. I guess this is one of them. A classmate was bitten by a radioactive spider and gained spider powers, becoming Spiderman, you've probably seen enough movies to know how that story goes, too, so no need to go into it here.
Anyway, I was minding my own business, hanging out around my school and working on some improvised parts to repair the TARDIS, when something strange happened, I mean stranger than the usual gaggle of supervillains that seem to attack the city periodically for no apparent reason. A strange purple portal opened up right in front of me. I heard a familiar voice in my head
"This is Jenny, calling for help, I'm facing something I don't think I can do without your help, only together can we do this."
As you can probably guess, I'm not one to ignore a call for help, even if it had seemed to have come from me. After grabbing some equipment that I had lying around my lab, I jumped through the portal.
In another universe, at another time…
I was sitting in the deserted Ravenclaw Common Room, when a strange, purple portal opened up and I heard my own voice, but different, talking in my head.
"This is Jenny, calling for help, I'm facing something I don't think I can do without your help, only together can we do this."
"I thought life couldn't get any stranger," I said, as I made sure my wand was secure in my right pocket "After-all, what could be Stranger than Wizards?"
A/N: Sorry, couldn't resist that joke.
In another universe, at another time…
The name is Jenny. I'm a Time Lady in my second incarnation. After several adventures with my former dad, now mum. Yeah, it's a little strange, and it took some getting used to, but she's still my dad, or mum, if that makes any sense whatsoever. Recently, we helped a group of Japanese warriors retake their home, and destroy an alien device that was releasing strange energy into the surrounding area.
They helped me to recover my fighting skills after my regeneration. Usually, Mum doesn't like to come back to check up on previous adventures, but I owed Susuka, Akira and Kiko. Mum had an appointment to keep on the Orient Express, so she dropped me off with a vortex manipulator and gave me a time for when they would return. As I approached the village, something unusual occurred. A strange, purple portal materialised not too far away from me, and I heard a familiar voice coming from it:
"This is Jenny, calling for help, I'm facing something I don't think I can do without your help, only together can we do this."
The village would have to wait. Someone needed my help.
Note: See Jenny-the Avenger Chapter 27 for what is technically the second part of the crossover.
