Some days later, I was not healed at all but I was outside of the habitat with my cloak on. Keeper was talking with Kendall about the location of the gold Energem. I looked at mine in my pocket. Why did you pick me? I asked in my mind. The gem only responded with a gentle glow. I sighed.
"Is everything alright, Silver?" Keeper asked. I nodded. "You don't seem alright." He was standing next to me.
"I am only thinking." I finally replied. "About something I can't really describe."
"You have doubts?" He voiced my thoughts. I stared at him as if how he knew this. "Doubts about being a Ranger." I nodded confirmation. Keeper sighed. "This feels like when we met for the first time." He did not sound mad, instead, he looked amused. Kendall was there listening the whole time.
"I can't morph, how does that make me a Ranger?" I asked him.
"Your Energem can sense that you doubt," Keeper said. "It is the cause of you not to morph."
I nodded not replying. "I am sorry if I am a burden." I finally respond.
"You are not a burden." Keeper sternly said.
"If you were, we would have already kicked you out a long while back." Kendall said. I stared at her in disbelief. That was the first time I had heard her not say something like 'You are a burden, you have messed this or that up, I want you out of here', and so on.
"How can I not doubt." I asked curiously.
"Work up your courage." Kendall responds. I nod.
"Can I go out for a walk in the forest?" I asked hopefully. "You can always have the Rangers follow me." In my mind, I really wanted Keeper to come.
"They are busy." Kendall points out.
"But that does not mean I can't go." Keeper said.
"You sure?" Kendall asked looking at him. "What if, whatever attacked Silver, comes back?"
"He can fight too, you know." I pointed out. I was refraining myself from getting too excited. I wanted fresh air and to get out of the base since a long while.
"Is it a good idea?" Kendall asked. "You know there is Sledge who would try anything to get those Energems."
"I won't let him near Keeper," I growl angrily.
"You will certanly not." Kendall and Keeper said at the same time.
"Silver, you are too injured to even fight." Keeper said. He did not sound please. "If the circumstances come to that, I will call the Rangers."
I nodded, though, I could not keep the idea of anything happening to him let it slide. "So can we go?" I asked hopefully.
"Yes, we can go." Keeper said. I smiled as I slowly rose to my feet. Keeper puts his hood over. I smile half faded seeing that. I really did like it when his hood was down. I just knew he only takes it down inside the base. We both made our way out.
Outside, we made our way toward the forest. Keeper knows how much I love going there. We walked in silent keeping next to each other. No point in leaving his side. I love him too much to leave. Personally, I was happy he decided he would be the one to go with me. It was sure relaxing. The only problem was, I was still bruised. The scratches did not sting, but they felt bruised. Keeper noticed. "You sure you want to continue?" He asked worried. I knew he would take me straight back if I said I wanted to go back.
I nodded to him. "I will be fine. Besides, I need the exercise and fresh air." I replied. Keeper did not keep his eyes off me at all. I don't blame him. I could still collapse any moment.
We stopped in front of the forest. "I don't like it." Keeper said. I looked at him seeing he had narrowed his eyes. Could he sense that Eye Shock was in the forest? I looked into the forest but saw no sign of gray scales. I was relieved.
"What is wrong?" I asked. I hated seeing him be uncomfortable about something.
Keeper turns to me. He saw my worried expression. "Why don't we stay out?" He suggests. I looked longing into the woods. "Silver?" He tries to get my attention. I blinked and looked over to him. The feeling of home I get when I am near the forest vanished when I looked at him. "What are you thinking?"
I glanced to the forest. It was only a fingertip away. "The forest reminds me so much of my home."
Keeper nods. "I understand." He rests an arm on my shoulder. "Why don't we talk about your past life?"
"Why?" I asked not knowing what he was planning.
"I need to talk to you about it." He said.
Hesitantly, I thought. "Alright," I agreed.
Keeper led me to a fallen tree. We both sat down. I was still trying to figure out what he truly wants with the subject. "You have trained in the ways of the dragons, correct?"
I nod slowly. "I even traveled for a long time as a dragon rider."
Keeper nods. "Have you noticed others that were not humans?" He asked. He was obviously very curious of this subject.
I never really thought of if there were others. I looked down, closing my eyes, and resting a hand to my forehead to think. I searched my memory. "I helped a black friesian unicorn. He looked like a regular horse just and added black colored horn that only trusted people could see."
"Anything else?" He asked.
I continued to think hard. A saying I remembered Blazga always told me. Concentrate, don't focus. Keeping that in mind, I took a deep breath and searched. "Other than humans, and other mythical beings, I see nothing out of place." I finally said.
Keeper looked crest fallen. "Then you don't remember too much." He said. I looked at him with confusion. "I have seen you fly on the back of your dragon." He said. I blinked surprised to know this. "I saw a line of humans in front of your tent. I decided to have a look. I saw your dragon resting outside, but she paid no attention to me as I entered the tent." I was really surprised now. "As I entered, I saw you working with a patient. You looked in deep thought as you moved around the tent. You kept doing something to the patient with different kinds of plants. You tend to look at a giant book you had with you."
My eyes grew so wide, my eyes looked almost as if they were going to pop out my eye socket. "So, I met you in my past life?" I replied, shock edge my voice.
Seeing my surprised look, Keeper smiled. "Yes." He replies. "You were surprised to see me inside. You almost shooed me away if I did not say why I was there. You being so kind let me stay and observe. Even helped you." He sounded as if he missed the old me. Who wouldn't? I missed my old me too. "You have taught me a few of the healing plants before you left." I had no words in reply. "Some hundred years later, I saw your dragon fly somewhere. I was about to greet you when I noticed you were not on her. I was absolutely confused. That was until I saw why. The dragoness was grieving over something. I spoke to her to find out you had died." I looked away embarrassed. "I thought it was old age, but soon found out it was because you went into battle." I kept my gave to the ground. That was the worst day of my life and it still haunts me. "Your dragon was saddened at this. She soon left my side to report it to your father. Today," He began gently making me face him again, a tear streamed down my cheek. "I thought about what Koda had told me. I thought it was no possible I would be able to see you again. I had to know."
"Yes," I choked. "I was Desta of the Dracon Riders, daughter and apprentice of Blazga, my father and mentor. I had traveled the world learning new remedies that could help others." I spoke low but glad he could hear me.
Keeper smiled. "And I am glad to know you." He said as he looked into my eyes. "Now stop your crying. It won't bring you back to the past." I nodded. With a sigh, he brought me into a hug. I winced from the stinging, but I wasn't not going to show it physically. I relaxed in his grasp. The sound of a twig snapped made us sit up perking our attention towards the woods. I slowly stood up growling. Keeper stared at me, possibly thinking what had gotten me on the edge. Just as he was about to say something, a hawk fluttered in her direction, followed by a velociraptor. Wait… 5 tiny dinos chasing a bird of prey? That was strange. They soon vanished leaving Keeper and me staring surprised.
"What was that all about?" I asked, my sadness now gone, but confusion replaced it.
(Keeper's POV)
"I have no clue." Keeper said. "But I don't like the looks of this." He rose to his feet and began walking away. "Come on." He said. When he turned to see if I was following, I had vanished. He stood there for a bit. "Silver?" He called out with worry. Where did that silly girl go off to now? He thought. He was about to follow her when the idea of the velociraptors chasing a bird of prey made him curious what the hey was going on. He turned away vanishing into mist.
He reappeared in the base below the dinosaur museum. He looked around before making his way to the scanners. There were no signs of activity. "That's strange…" He mutters looking around and thinking of an explanation for the prehistoric raptor. The only explanation is something he dreads come true. If it was true, Eye Shock has returned from the grave.
(Silver's POV)
"What do you want from me?" I hissed angrily. I was still in a lot of pain.
"I see you haven't started to heal, yet." A sneer came from the trees.
I looked up from where I was to see him laying around lazily. "Do you know how to heal it?" I asked. I was suppressing a growl of rage. There was no way I want to have open wounds for the rest of my life. It was better he finished me off then.
"Oh…" He soothed evilly, "I know how to heal them. It sure ain't from those herbs." He begins to hang from the tree again. He seemed to admire how much my form has changed. I had claws like an eagle, tail like a reptile, teeth of a cat, and eyes as blue as the ocean with slit pupils. "Now," he sneered, "what shall your first task be?" He looks me over. "First, you surely can't go around looking like a hag." He leaps to me and pins me to the ground. An evil smirk appeared on his face. "The only way to heal you is my saliva."
I stared at him with disgust. Was he seriously going to kick me? Gross! I tried to wriggle free, but the injuries protested and he had most of his weight on me.
"Don't struggle," Eye Shock hissed angrily.
Time skip of awkwardness where I get salivated. I stood all wet and slimy from his saliva. "Gross!" I hissed irritably. "Couldn't it have been another way?"
"Yes, but you might not like it." Eye Shock said in a 'matter of fact' tone.
I gulped. "Er... Never mind. I prefer the saliva thank you." I really did not want to know the other way. "Can I go wash this up in the lake?" I asked with disgust. Eye Shock was not pleased but points a 'go on' gesture toward the lake. I scurried off to the lake. I hid behind a tree, unwrapped the bandages. I looked over my scratches. They were all healing nicely. I made my way to the water and slipped in. I feel weird washing off the saliva in front of an enemy who could easily be a pervert. I was literally naked in the water. No joke! I was not happy it was day either. I looked over to Eye Shock. He was seriously staring at me with concentration. "Can't I have some privacy?" I hissed as I grew red. Eye Shock rolled his eyes as he turned and left for the cave.
I was having trouble keeping my tail under the water. My claws were making it kind of difficult to clean off the saliva. What caught me off guard was that I had grown spine spikes. They were brown in color and sticking straight up. I felt along my jawline to feel small spikes growing. My heart raced. I was literally changing into my dragon form. I can see the signs of that form. What else was I felt a set of lumps at the base of my shoulder blades. When I touched them, it moved. I squeaked but soon realized it will end up being my wings.
(Keeper's POV)
"Keeper?" Kendall's worried voiced was heard. Keeper looks over to her. "Is something wrong?"
He had no clue what to say. If he told her about Silver's disappearance, she would not be pleased. It was already enough to that Silver and Kendall did not get along. He was not going to make it worse. He had to think of something on the spot. "When Silver and I were at the woods," he began as he tried to search for information about raptor sightings, "we saw three raptors bolt out the forest after a bird of prey." He said. Still, his dreaded feeling kicked in. "I came back to find any signs of reports of raptor sightings."
Kendall listened to him. "Where is Silver now?" She asked.
He almost leaped out of his robe when she asked. What was he supposed to do? Lie to her? She was kind enough to help him. If he lies now, it could ruin the trust relationship. He had to think of something. And quick. "She…" he searched for the words. He sighed. "She disappeared. I don't know where off to." He sounded worried when he said that.
"She what?" Kendall couldn't believe what she heard. She took a deep breath. "I knew she was trouble." She turns away helping to search for any reports of the raptors. "We need to send a search party to find her."
Keeper shook his head faintly, "She will be fine." He reassured her. "She knows how to defend herself."
"Defend herself from what?" Koda asked as he came out of his cave. Keeper looks to him. He decides to walk off back to his habitat instead of answering.
"Silver has disappeared and I am planning to have you and the Rangers search for her." That was the last thing he heard clearly from the two. He did not want to be part of this. How could he let Silver slip past him, and or even tell him where she was going?
He walked into his habitat looking around. He observed the trees and plants of old. Looking ahead, he made his way toward his sleeping area. A small tropical lizard past him. He stopped admiring how tiny it was and how much it related to its relatives. She walks on to the sleeping area. Usually no one came here except him. It was strange to have Silver live in this habitat. He guessed it was manly because she liked him that much. To him, it was strange to take a liking to her. What face aged him to the point he ended up loving her? Keeper finally reached his sleeping area, well, their sleeping area. He looked around. "Where did you go?" He said to the empty air. He was worried for Silver, especially since she had so many wounds.
(Silver's POV)
I was still bathing in the lake, almost getting all of Eye Shock's saliva off. "Silver!" I hear Koda's call.
"Silver!" I hear the others call.
I froze in mid-bathing. Oh no! I sailed in my mind. I shrank my height so only the top section of my head was out of water. I hope they won't find me. I hoped in my mind. There was no telling how Rangers would be able to find each other.
"Guys, I found Silver's clothing." Koda announced. I saw him behind the tree.
Don't look over. I willed. My eyes were so wide it looked like my eyeballs would pop out of my head. The others approached.
"Tell me she isn't running around naked." Shelby rolled her eyes.
Koda was the only one to sniff me out. I cursed him for his good sense of smell. There was no way… I held my breath as I dunked under water. The others her a plop and looked up to see the water rippling. "Found her!" Koda announced.
"Well, if she is naked she won't like to get out." Tyler said. I winced cursing myself for making the water ripple. "Silver, come on out and get dressed."
"We were worried about you." Chase said. "You have some explaining to do when we get back." I slowly popped my head out like a hippo. I snorted.
"We won't look when you come out." Riley reassured.
"Then leave," I said spitting water. "I came for a bath." I only half lied there. No point in telling them the rest.
"You seriously came for a bath?" Riley asked.
"Keeper sounded worried." Koda said. For once, his voice was quite harsh. Everyone looked to Koda with confusion.
"I will get out if you guys stop looking!" I spat angrily. They looked at one another before turning away from me. I gave an exaggerated sigh as I swam back to the bank. I climbed out shaking off as much water as I could. The saliva did its trick, but it was still embarrassing. I grabbed my cloak and pants. That was seriously all I wore all because of the injuries. I swung my cloak over and covered myself along with putting my pants on. Afterward, I made sure the cloak covered me up. I noticed gray movement. I looked up to see Eye Shock glaring. He flicked his tail once before leaving. He obviously was not pleased. Why me? I wailed. I stepped out from behind the tree. "Ready." I said turned to see me. I was clutching a bit of the cloak to keep it closed. I even had my hood on. We left the forest without a word.
In the base, Kendall was busy looking at some monitored as always. She looks over to us. "Where have you been?" Kendall's voiced sounded irritated. I did not give her any eye contact. I was terrified of her. Why wouldn't I be?
Koda stepped forward. "We found her taking a bath in the lake." He reports.
"And she could have told us this before simply vanishing?" Kendall asked. She sure was not pleased with me. She took a deep sigh. "Keeper needs to know she is back."
Always on cue, Keeper was standing at the tunnel's mouth. I did not look at him knowing he was not at all pleased with my disappearance I knew I should have made up some sort of excuse. My heart raced as he neared the group. I wanted to step away so I wouldn't get scolded, but my fear made me freeze in place. I never could really run when I was terrified.
Keeper stood in front of me. "Why did you not say you were going to take a bath?" He asked. "I would have left you be." He looked to the others. "Come, we will discuss this where we are going." I nodded. He lead me into the habitat.
At the camp, Keeper stopped. Without any warning, he turned and wrapped me with one arm in a hug. His other hand was occupied by his staff. "I was worried." He said. I stood there like sheep. What was I supposed to say. My heart raced before deciding to return the embrace. I was surprised to know that even when I disappeared, he would still forgive me.
"I'm sorry." I finally said.
He stepped back ending the hug. I wanted it to last longer. "How are your scratches?" He asked curiously.
I stiffened a little. "They are doing good." I told him. It was true, they had healed neatly.
"Let me see." Keeper said. I looked at him fearfully.
