Chapter Fourteen: The Guys Like Potter

Mya put her broom away into her locker and sat down on the bench. She thought she was starting to go crazy. Here's no way James had smiled at her, unless he had something up his sleeve. It wasn't like James to just be nice to her. She rested her head in her hands; she didn't want to let him into her head again.

"Mya?"

She looked up and saw Lily's brown eyes staring back at her. She had her uniform off and looked like she was on her way out. Mya was hoping that no one would have seen her. She was the last one in and only went in when she thought everyone else was gone. Lily must have come back in to find her. Since she had beaten James Potter everyone seemed to be trying to get her to go party with them. Mya wasn't used to having that kind of popularity. Sure people liked her, but it wasn't like she was a Potter or a Weasley; everyone knew they were the most popular kids in school. Lily could tell Mya didn't really want to talk, but she didn't want to give up on her.

"Mya what's wrong?" Lily asked softly.

Mya lifted her head, a fake smile plastered across her face. "Nothing's wrong; why would anything be wrong? Everything is perfect; we won didn't we?"

"Then why do you look like you've been crying?" Lily pointed out.

Mya frowned, hating that Lily always seemed to jump to the fact that people were crying when they were just a little upset. "I wasn't crying Lily."

"But your face is all red."

"Just lay off Lily." She snapped in response.

The red head finally seemed to understand what was going on. They had just played Slytherin after all and Lily almost kicked herself not realizing sooner that it was probably her brother that had upset Mya.

"What did James do this time?" Lily asked cautiously, waiting for the whiplash that was sure to come next.

"Who said it was James?" Mya scoffed shaking her head. She wanted the image of him smiling down at her out of her head.

"Because my brother has the gift of getting under people's skin. He does it to everyone he knows and he gets a victory each and every time he does it. I would have figured that you would be used to it by now."

"It doesn't mean I like him getting in my head. I keep thinking that I'm immune to him and then he goes and pulls something new." Mya sighed. "I don't want to be like every other girl in Hogwarts having a crush on James Potter; I don't want to have a crush on him."

"Mum says you can't help who you fall for." Lily offered. "What did he do this time that was so bad anyways?"

"I caught him smiling at me after the game."

"He smiled at you?" Lily repeated not sure if she should laugh or be confused.

"Look I know Potter and he never smiles after games, especially if he loses. I know he's trying to get in my head again. It's all part of his stupid master plan to mess with me and break me. I'm just a pawn in his giant chess game; and in wizard chess the pawns are the first ones you try to shatter and destroy."

"If you were against him you'd be the king of the opposite color, or maybe the queen; I think Albus would end up being the king in the long run. Those two are always against each other." Lily ranted off on her own train of thought.

"I honestly just wish I could take a potion and forget about him." Mya sighed.

Lily's head snapped towards the seventh year. Mya usually didn't joke about potions, or magic in general like that, but there was no way that she would take a potion that would mess with her memory like that. Erasing James out of her mind would erase most of the past seven years of her life. "Mya don't you think you're over reacting? It was just a smile after all."

"This is James we're talking about." Mya stated throwing her hands up in the air.

"I know James is a dick, but you know he does have some good in him, deep down." Lily said defending her oldest brother. "You know my dad used to tell me stories about my grandfather. He used to be a toerag and a dick to everyone and than grandma came around and he fell in love with her. He wanted to prove to her that he could be a good guy and he cleaned up his act. He started doing better in school, not blowing tests and class off, he stopped pulling so many pranks. He loved her and Grandma Lily eventually loved him back. Love does crazy things to people and it can defiantly change them."

"I don't think your brother is capable of feeling love unless it's for himself." Mya scoffed.

"Everyone is capable of feeling love." Lily rebutted. "It's just a matter of acting on those feelings or not."

"Why was your dad not like your grandfather, but James does?" The brunette witch asked changing the subject.

"Maybe asshole skips a generation, or it could do with the fact that they share the same name." Lily joked. She than sighed and became serious. "Look in this world there will always be guys out there like my grandfather; people who start out as dicks and then slowly change over time, and I'm praying that my brother is one of those people. I would rather have people like that in this world, instead of people who start off nice and then turn into dicks."

"I guess." Mya muttered, barely paying any attention. She was too busy lost in her own thoughts. Just because one girl could change a James Potter, did not mean another girl could change this James Potter. Plenty of girls had tried to make James Potter a one woman man and they had all failed. It took a special kind of woman to control a Potter boy. She only knew of two woman that managed to do that; Lily Evans and Ginny Weasley and she was defiantly not an Evans or a Weasley. It seemed like everyone expected her to be the next Lily Evans and tame this new James Potter.

"You're not listening to a word I'm saying are you?" Lily asked waving her hand in front of Mya's face breaking her from her personal thoughts.

"Huh?" Mya asked jumping at the sound of Lily's voice. "What did you just say?"

Lily shook her head. "Well that answers my question."

"I'm sorry, I was distracted." Mya blushed, embarrassed by what was going on in her head. She never acted like this and was feeling stupid that this was even happening in the first place.

"Well I'll leave you to your thoughts then, because I'm clearly not getting through to you. Just don't stay in here much longer. It smells for one and we're throwing a party in the common room and you kind of are the star for the evening. As much as Wood wants to claim MVP for supposedly training you, but we all know that MVP belongs to you. You are the one that took down my big brother after all."

Lily hopped off of the bench and walked out of the locker room. She didn't feel like arguing with Mya anymore and she knew Mya felt the same way. They were both stubborn and sometimes they just had to walk away from each other. Mya sighed and stood up knowing that Lily was right as much as she didn't want to admit it.

She fixed her hair, since it had gotten messed up during the game, tying it up into a ponytail. She picked her scarlet and gold Quidditch robe up to go put on it's peg, so that it could be washed with the rest of the team's robes. She hung it up so her last name was facing back at her, just like the rest of the team. She saw hers, one Wood, several Weasleys and two Potters, the Gryffindor Quidditch team.

Mya outlined the letters on the back of Lily's robe. She was small and quick on the field; she was able to play both the seeker and a chaser, the spinning image of her mother with the same flaming red hair and chocolate brown eyes. Then there was Albus, who looked like a clone of their father. He was kind, mild, quite brilliant and girls seemed to have a crush on him. He was nothing like his big brother when it came to girls though, he seemed too shy to talk to most of them. James had features of both of his parents, his father's black hair and his mother's brown eyes. One would like he would be a mixture of both of their personalities, but instead he seemed to be his own hybrid of a genius and a jackass.

She had heard stories of Lily Evans and the first James Potter even before Lily had told her. He had his turn around his seventh year, but Mya didn't believe that this James Potter wanted to change. He like the way he pranced around the school like he owned the place. His grandfather changed to win the heart of a girl, he changed to get her to notice him. There was no one that James Sirius Potter loved more than himself, and there was no way she was even in the running of even being a crush for him. Penny, Kaylee and Abby had spent years throwing themselves at James trying to get him to love them back, only to get no where. Mya was pretty positive with her earlier statement to Lily; James wasn't capable of love and she was quite surprised that Lily had even defended her oldest brother in the first place.

She shook her head forcing the idea of James Potter out of her mind. Lily was right about one thing though, she should be up in the Gryffindor tower celebrating with the rest of the house. The won against their biggest rival and here she was sitting in their locker room moping because of a boy. She just had to push the asshole out of her mind and enjoy herself, she deserved that. She grabbed her messenger bag that had her books in it and walked back outside.

"Hey Longbottom!" Mya heard her last name called out in a curious tone, but it was no one that she had any desire to talk to, in fact it was the same someone that she was just trying to push out of her mind. She could see his emerald and silver robe out of the corner of her eye and she tried to walk quickly away from him. He caught up to her though and grabbed the back of her back. "Wait Longbottom I want to talk."

"Well I don't." Mya snapped continuing to walk.

James pulled on the back of Mya's bag, trying to stop her, but instead it ripped her bag knocking her books all over the Quidditch pitch. She swore as she leaned down to pick everything up. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean too."

"Don't touch anything." Mya snapped as James went to help her pick her stuff up. She waved her wand to fix her bag and then put everything back in it. She stood up, threw her bag back over her shoulder and dusted the dirt off of her jeans. "Well you got my attention, so what do you want?"

"Two things." James started to say before Mya cut in again.

"Well I don't have all day Potter; People are waiting for me." Mya stated crossing her arms.

"I wanted to tell you good game, you deserve it Longbottom."

Mya raised her eyebrow starting to become suspicious. James Potter never congratulated anyone, normally he was a poor sport, so now why was he being nice to her? "And what's the second thing?"

"Many you're really trying to push this along aren't you?" James teased. He suddenly became nervous not knowing exactly how to approach her.

"Well spit it out Potter." Mya said rolling her eyes.

"I was wondering if next Saturday you would like to go to the Three Broomsticks with me to get a butterbeer?" James asked.

Mya started to laugh. "I see what this is. You want me to go, so you can prank me; probably slip a transformation potion in my drink or something like that."

"No I just wanted to go out with you." James insisted.

"Why would I want to go out with you?"

"Because I'm a great guy." James said smirking.

"I'll go out with you when pigs fly." Mya said starting to walk away.

"Wait you want pigs to fly? I can do that." James said chasing after her. "All I need is a pig. I can do it Longbottom just wait!"

Mya spun around pinching the bridge of her nose. "It's a saying that muggles say Potter. If you paid attention in class you would know that."

"So you don't want me to make pigs fly?" James asked slowing not really understanding what was going on.

"No Potter," Mya said shaking her head. "I don't want to go out with you. I would rather go out with the giant squid in the Black Lake."

"But Longbottom I actually like you." Mya was taken back by what he had said, but she still didn't trust him. "It's a surprise to me too."

Mya stared at James. "Prove it." She stated before walking away.

James started to follow after her again, refusing to give up. When he wanted something he didn't give up. "What is that supposed to mean Longbottom?"

Mya huffed and spun around. She was sick of his mind games and didn't want to play anymore. "If you like me Potter than prove it, because I sure as hell don't trust you and don't want to be anywhere near you. And the first thing is to not follow me."

Mya spun back around and walked briskly off of the pitch and towards the castle. She was ready to join her friends, although she had no plan of telling them what had just happened. There was no way it was real anyways. Although she was surprised that he did stop and stay behind, leaving her alone.

So I'm sorry that I took forever. My family has been going through a lot, so I haven't been in the mood to write, but I finally finished this chapter and thought that I would type it up. I've also been working on my original novel and it's sequel. I hope you guys are noticing that I'm trying to make similar parallels between Lily Evans and Mya Longbottom. I actually took the fact that Lily said she would rather date the squid than James and I put that in for Mya. So my question for you guys is do you think James really likes Mya or not? Also I got the name for the chapter from a song from A Very Potter Sequel "Guys Like Potter". It was one of my favorite songs in the musical. I also think that Lily's speech about people changing is one of the most powerful lines in this book so far. Anyways please REVIEW and SUSCRIBE, I could really use the pick me up. Thanks for reading guys.
