Hello everyone! Yes, I'm back and now writing while simultaneously trying to type up essays. (College is rough.) Anyway, I hope you all enjoy and hope this chapter clears up a few things.
Disclaimer: I OWN NOTHING!
"Ah," Magnus purred as Clary, Jace and Isabelle walked into the drawing room. He sat up in his chair and laid down the book on the table where he'd propped his feet up. "My second favorite Time Travelers. Second to myself and Alec of course."
"Of course," Isabelle replied, with a roll of her eyes. "Speaking of, where is Alec?"
"Where's your vampire?" Magnus asked with a teasing smile.
"Holy ground, he can't come in." Jace explained, almost bored as he sat down onto the love seat next to the fire place with Clary at his side. Isabelle, red faced, sat down on the second lounge chair, regrettably next to Magnus. "And Alec?"
Magnus shrugged. "At the apartment, I left him to play with myself while I came to talk to you."
Jace grinned. "Do you typically leave your boyfriend alone in the past with someone while you go away?"
"No," Magnus' eyes narrowed. "But for myself I'll make an exception."
"What did you want to tell us, Magnus?" Clary asked, now rolling her eyes at Jace.
"Ah, yes." Magnus snapped his fingers." We're going home."
"We are?" Clary asked, her green eyes going wide. "Now?"
"Of course not now," Magnus said. "I mean soon. Sooner than Charlotte thinks of course, but not immediately. You still have some business to take care of here."
"We do?" Jace asked, shaking his head. "Like what?"
The warlock shrugged again, he was becoming really annoying being so vague, Clary thought. "Just keep doing what you're doing."
Clary groaned as Jace let out a laugh. "I wish you wouldn't have told him that."
"Why?" Magnus asked, his yellow cat eyes staring at Jace peculiarly. "What the hell kind of trouble have you three have gotten into in just two days?"
"Automatons," Isabelle said, flicking her dark hair over her shoulder. "Setting Benedict Lightwood's carriage on fire, the usual anarchy Jace can get into."
"You set the Lightwood's carriage on fire?" Magnus asked looking slightly impressed.
"We needed a distraction." Jace explained, not looking at all ashamed.
"A big one." Clary agreed.
"It's no loss on my family's part." Isabelle agreed, stroking her necklace. "But, when Benedict came into the library, right before we left, my necklace pulsed. But, there was no demon."
"Ah," Magnus grinned. "Almost forgot about that."
"What?" Isabelle demanded.
"Nothing that you need to concern you with." Magnus said with a laugh.
"Your elusiveness is getting old, warlock." Jace said.
"And your tempter is getting annoying." Magnus growled. "Trust me, I know what I'm doing."
"If you do, then why don't you tell us?" Clary asked, crossing her arms over her chest. "Why did you send us here?"
"It's complicated." Magnus said, in the same evasive tone.
"So, uncomplicated it." Isabelle said, narrowing her eyes. "Clary and I could've gotten killed by those metal monstrosities, we deserve to know why."
"Fine," Magnus sad, throwing his hands up, defeated. "You're here because of Tessa."
"Tessa?" Clary asked. "When-?"
"It was few weeks ago." Magnus explained, exasperated. "We were talking about you three actually, the Fairchilds and the Lightwoods and the Herondales. And she told me that she remembered something about me, the week before the hearing, that I'd come to the Institute and she wanted to know why. I had to tell her the truth."
"Which is?" Jace asked.
"That the London Institute was attacked by automatons a few days before the council." He said. "They had shadow hunter blood, and they attacked when they thought they were most vulnerable."
"Why didn't she remember?" Clary asked. "She was here, wasn't she?"
"Yes, everyone was at the Institute during the time of the attack. Tessa, Will, Jem, Charlotte and Henry, everyone." Magnus shook his head. "And none of them remember what happened because for them, it didn't."
"You wiped their memory?" Clary exclaimed, her face red. "Like you did to me?"
"Not nearly as complicated," Magnus said, refusing to meet Clary's gaze. "I erased the attack, healed their injuries and gave them a new few days of memory for what they forgot."
"Why erase a few days when you only need them forget one attack?" Jace asked, leaning forward, interested. "How long was the attack? Gramps couldn't hold on for a few hours?"
Magnus rolled his eyes. "I wouldn't doubt Will's fighting prestige. There were too many automatons for them to handle, and they were short staffed. So, i glamoured them to forget the people who helped them, and who stayed at the Institute in the days before the attack. You."
"You brought us here to fight." Isabelle realized.
"Exactly," Magnus said.
"Why glamour them?" Clary asked. "Why not let them remember the attack?"
"Because, Charlotte would lose her place at the head of the Institute. Benedict would use it as an example that Charlotte wasn't a good leader and she would be removed." Magnus replied with a sigh. "And if she lost the Institute, everyone in it would be separated and Jace, Isabelle and Alec would cease to exist."
"What!" Jace and Isabelle exclaimed. Jace jumped to his feet and Isabelle was pale.
"Why the hell would we cease to exist?" Jace growled, glaring at the warlock. "And please, be specific."
"Jace, your ancestors would never be together if Charlotte lost the Institute now and Isabelle, your ancestor's haven't even met yet. They meet later under this very roof." Magnus stood up. "Do you understand now? You need to protect the Institute when the automatons attack and then I'll return and make sure they don't remember it or you. I brought you here because it was your family, and your lives. You must be successful."
"Why did you decide to take us here when we were in the middle of a demon attack then?" Jace asked. "You could've picked a better time to send us and explain what we were meant to do."
"Well," Magnus dropped his gaze. "I had to get you all in the portal, didn't I? And I could've summoned something more dangerous than a pack of Raum-"
"You send the demons that attacked us?" Jace yelled. "What the hell is wrong with you?"
"The less you knew the better." Magnus told them. "It wasn't that simple, and I didn't want to tell you now either."
"Why?" Clary demanded, climbing to her feet. "Why aren't we supposed to know?"
Magnus turned and stared at her straight in the eye. "Because, the less you know the easier it will be to erase your memory."
I don't really love this chapter because I think its way too wordy, but I had to explain a few things so it had to be. ALSO I finally got my own computer, WHOO HOO, so now, I will be hopefully able to post more often, yes I've said that before but this helps a lot. I love you all and thank you for not giving up on me or this story.
