Chapter 14

They arrived at the small restaurant as they stepped out of the black SUV and were swarmed by a group of young girls all running up to Evan asking to take pictures and give them an autograph on various body parts. Evan seemed to thoroughly enjoy the attention he was getting from the girls around him. Serena shook her head watching as the girls through themselves at him thinking at one time she may have even done the same thing as she felt Darien reach over, touching her arm as he told her "he may be a few minutes how about we go in and sit"

Serena nodded her head as she let Darien lead her into the restaurant with Sam following close behind them. They walked inside and Serena immediately noticed the difference in the place from the first restaurant that Darien had brought them too unlike the first restaurant this one was much smaller and cozy with only ten tables in the whole place and sat right on the water with a beautiful picturesque view of the sea.

Darien walked up to a woman who turned around with a big smile as she greeted him "Mr. Carlisle welcome back. We are so glad you and your friends can join us today?"

Darien smiled at the woman warmly as he gave her a small kiss on the cheek telling her "thank you Marcy" as he looked over and saw Evan starting to walk towards them as he asked her "can we have a table that is more set aside further from the public eye"

Marcy nodded her head understanding there need for privacy as she assured him "please right this way all of you" as she led them to a table in the corner.

Darien looked around seeing how quiet it was as he nodded his head telling her "yes this will do nicely" as he walked over to pull out Serena's chair for her, but to his surprise Evan actually got to it first as he held the chair and looked to Serena with a debonair smile telling her "please allow me"

Serena looked up at Evan her teenage heartthrob as she smiled nervously telling him "thank you" as she took the seat and Evan pushed the chair closer to the table as Darien sat down across from her as he looked to Evan and didn't like how his eyes were still transfixed on Serena as he picked up his menu and browsed over it already knowing what he would order.

Serena sat there across from Darien and Evan as she slowly picked up her own menu and then looked up and wasn't sure but for a moment she thought she saw something in Darien's eyes the way he looked at her, but shook it away as she heard him tell her "you will really enjoy this place Serena. The food is superb"

She nodded her head remembering the last restaurant that they sat at went out to eat together as she told him "I'm sure"

Evan nodded his head agreeing with Darien as he told her "it's true. I happened to find this place when I was onset shooting my movie"

Serena looked around realizing she did know this place as she interrupted excitedly telling him "The girl who don it. I love that movie"

Evan looked to her curiously as he asked her "you know my work" She smiled telling him "yes my friends and I use to go to the movies all the time whenever a new Evan Fleming picture came out"

Evan looked to her with a coy smile as he told her "I am flattered Serena" She looked around the small restaurant telling him "this is where the scene with the guy who through the soda in your face was"

Evan laughed as he told her "that's right you must be a fan" as he continued telling her "they insisted on retaking that scene over and over again to be sure they got it just right. I think I had that soda thrown in my face 9 times before they finally decided they got a good take"

Serena sat there as she laughed listening to Evan tell his story as Darien sat there watching the two as he silently wished he had a soda right now as he shook his head brushing away the thought as a waitress walked over and asked may I get you something to drink as she caught eyes on Evan and as most girls do her words got caught in her throat as she asked him nervously "are you him?"

Evan looked at the pretty waitress with a smile as he told her "I certainly am and please get my friends here whatever they would like. Lunch is on me today"

Darien shook his head telling him sternly "no that's not necessary. I can more than pay our share"

Evan looked to him curiously as he put a hand to his shoulder telling him "I am aware of that my friend, but today this is my treat with such pleasant company" as he looked to Serena telling her "please order whatever you would like" as Sam looked over to the waitress asking "you got any yoo-hoo"

The waitress fumbled as she tried to get back to what she is supposed to be doing and away from Evan as she looked to the boy telling him "I don't know about yoo-hoo, but I am sure we can get some chocolate milk"

Sam nodded his head as he told her "that'll do"

Everyone shared a laugh as Serena looked to the girl and told her "just a coke please" Evan and Darien both ordered a glass of sparking water as Evan turned to Serena asking "so please tell me about you. Where are you from Serena?"

The table went quiet for a moment as Darien looked to her. He was about to tell Evan a different version of the truth. Serena spoke up telling Evan "I am actually in between places right now"

Evan looked to the young girl and small boy sitting across from him, and then over at his old friend Darien as he shook his head looking back to Serena telling her "I am afraid, I don't follow"

Darien shook his head disagreeing with Serena's statement as he told him "actually Serena and Sam are staying with me right now"

Evan turned and looked over at Darien shocked as he laughed telling him "staying with you. Really I don't believe it. The confirmed bachelor for life has a girl staying with him"

Serena shook her head telling him "it's nothing like that, Darien and I are just friends"

Evan looked to her with a smile but was curious to know much about this girl who Darien mysteriously showed up with and has living with him as he questioned her "just friends huh?"

Serena nodded her head as she looked over to see Darien looking her way and smiled telling him "that's right, Darien was kind enough to help Sam and me out of a difficult situation"

Darien looked over to her and saw the girl he had stayed up talking all night to as he nodded his head telling her "it has been my privilege"

Serena blushed as Evan turned and saw the way Darien looked to her as he brought his attention back to Serena asking "if you don't mind me asking. What kind of situation? How did you meet Darien?"

Serena blushed as she told him "actually, we have only known each other a few days"

Evan eyes opened wide as he looked over to his Darien asking "days?"

Darien nodded his head as he told him "that's right, I had the privilege of running into Serena and her brother on Christmas Eve"

Evan looked to Darien he had to have lost his mind as he quickly stood up from the table and took hold of Darien's arm as he told him "can I speak to you privately for a moment" He looked to Serena still sitting there looking to him surprised as he told her "if you'll please excuse us for a moment miss"

Evan walked away from the table as Darien stood up and followed. Serena sat there nervously as she watched both men walk away knowing they were going to be talking about her

Evan went to the men's room as Darien followed him in. The door was barely closed as Evan turned to look at Darien accusingly asking him "are you out of you mind?"

Darien shook his head as he walked further into the bathroom and started washing his hands telling him "there is more to it then you know"

Evan watched him wash his hands, like he didn't do something completely crazy and out of place for him as he looked to Darien asking him "did you not just take a girl you hardly know and her kid brother, take them into your apartment and let them stay with you?"

Darien turned his attention back to Evan as he nodded his head telling him "yes it's true but…"

Evan shook his head yelling at him "but, nothing Darien. You are heading for a world of trouble. You need to get that girl out of your place and now. Give her a few bucks and send her on her way"

Darien shook his head telling him "that won't happen"

Evan shook his head amazed knowing the way Darien looked at her asking him "has she already got her claws into you" Darien shook his head as he adamantly told him "Serena is not like that"

Evan laughed as he told him "so, she did not just happen to see a rich good looking guy and find her next meal ticket with him. So how much did she take you for so far?"

Darien shook his head telling him "nothing" Evan stood there shaking his head, not believing it as he told him "no really, she might not have asked you for it in herself, but how much did you spend on her so far. I'm sure that younger brother of hers has asked for more than yoo-hoo hasn't he"

Darien shook his head telling him "the only thing I have done so far is buy her dinner, and even that she gave me a hard time accepting. I tried to get her to buy clothes for herself, but she would not even accept that"

Evan raised a brow and looked to him asking "clothes?" expecting there to be more as Darien explained to him "yes they came to the city with nothing, but the clothes on their backs and got stranded"

Evan shook his head questioning the story asking "why they would do such a thing?"

Darien thought about the feared look in Serena's eyes when they first met a girl alone in a strange place with her brother to look after, not sure what to do as he shook his head telling him "they were supposed to meet up with family to get a new start, but the person they were expecting never showed, so they were left alone on the city streets"

Evan looked to him feeling a little saddened by the story, but still suspicious as he asked him "so where are their parents. The boy is young for the girl to be watching after him herself"

Darien nodded his head agreeing as he told him "it's true, Serena has a lot to deal with right now and I want to help her however I can"

Evan nodded his head accepting that Darien would do whatever he could to help those in need, but saw Darien didn't answer his question as he asked again "what happened to their parents?"

Darien took a deep breath and looked to him saying "there dead"

Evan went quiet as he looked to his Darien knowing he had lost his own parents at a similar age telling him "maybe I did misjudge her, but it is an unusual situation my friend"

Darien nodded his head agreeing with him saying "It is, but I think if you spend some time with her you will see her as I do"

Evan nodded his head as he told him "come on then, I guess we should get back there waiting" Darien opened the bathroom door and walked back out with Evan following to the table, but found it empty as he quickly looked around the small restaurant, but did not see them anywhere as he quickly grabbed a nearby waitress asking her "excuse me, but the girl and boy who were just here. Do you know where they went?"

The waitress shook her head as she told him "no I'm sorry, I didn't see"

Evan put a hand on Darien's shoulder seeing he was getting nervous as he told him "I am sure everything is fine, if the girl is as you say, maybe she just went to the ladies room or something"

Darien nodded his head, but inside he felt like it was something else as he sat down and waited a few more minutes.

He took a sip of his water as he kept his eyes on the path towards the bathroom as Evan rattled on about his newest movie, but he hardly paid any notice to him as the minutes ticked by and she did not come back. He stood up from his seat as Evan was in the middle of talking about an upcoming scene where he had to fly a plane as Darien turned to him saying "not now" and walked over to the ladies room and waited for someone to come out. He waited about two minutes before the door finally opened and an older woman walked out as he looked to her asking "pardon mam, but was there a blonde girl and a young boy in the bathroom with you just now"

The woman looked to him surprised at the question as she shook her head telling him "no I was the only one inside young man"

Darien nodded his head knowing his suspicions were confirmed as he went back to the table and saw Evan sitting drinking his glass of water not pleased as Darien told him "their gone"

Evan put the glass of water down on the table and looked over to him as he nodded his head telling him "listen Darien, your one of my oldest friends. Listen to me when I tell you, maybe this is for the best. Just let them go be someone else's problem"

Darien looked to him as he shook his head telling him "no you're wrong. I don't know why they left, but I'm going to find them" as he turned and walked out of the restaurant as he heard Evan call out from behind him "you're making a big mistake" But Darien refused to listen as he ran out the door of the restaurant.
