Chapter 14
My eyes fluttered open lethargically as I slowly sat up and rubbed my eyes. I could hear the even breathing of Lucas below me, indicating that he was still asleep. I gazed across the room at the picture from the other day that was placed on our dresser. I smiled as the good memories flooded back. For a while I just sat there and took in the serene silence. That was until I heard voices outside my door. I quietly got out of bed, careful to not wake Lucas, and put my ear to the door.
"I think it's time." I heard a familiar voice say.
"Did you preform the test?" an other voice said.
"I did. All are ready."
"Then start phase three."
I heard two sets of footsteps walk away and dim. Phase three? What does that mean? I'm pretty sure one of the people was Mathias, but who was the other one? I was disturbed from my thoughts by Lucas saying "What are you doing?" I realized that I still had my ear pressed to the door. I quickly backed away from the door.
"Nothing!" I said.
Lucas gave me a skeptical look but didn't inquire me any further. I let out a deep breath and attempted to climb back into bed. Lucas grabbed my foot before I could reach it and pulled me into his bed.
"Lucas! What are you doing?!" I asked frantically, half heartily trying to escape his embrace.
He didn't say anything, but just laid back down, pulling me with him. I stopped trying to escape and hid my burning face in his chest. He rested his chin on my head while I wrapped my arms around him to return the hug. He lightly kissed the top of my head. We stayed there for what seemed like hours, but may have been only minuets, enjoying each others embrace.
"Hey guys! Time for breakfast!" Mathias said as he swung our door open.
I turned around and gave him a glare.
"Whoops, was I interrupting."
Just as I was about to get up and physically kick his sorry ass out of the room, Lucas sat up behind me, put his head on my shoulder, and said "Yes. We will be at breakfast in a few. Knock next time."
"Okay!" Mathias said as he exited the room.
"You should probably change before he comes back." Lucas said.
I mumbled a "Okay" before I rolled out of bed, grabbed a clean change of clothes, and walked into the bathroom. I pulled on the blue jeans, white t-shirt, and black zip up hoodie. I slipped on my military boots before quickly brushing through my hair and brushing my teeth. When I got out, Lucas was already dressed in blue jeans and a white button up shirt. He slipped into the bathroom quickly before we went down the hall for breakfast. When we got in the room Tino and Berwald were sitting next to each other having a friendly conversation about the whereabouts of Santa. I made a face but just blew it off since it was Tino and Berwald. Mathias was staring at his empty plate deep in thought. Lucas and I sat down next to each other. In front of us were plates of pancakes and sausage.
"Hey, whats up with Mathias?" I asked Lucas in between bites of pancake.
Lucas just shrugged his shoulders. All of a sudden, Mathias's head snapped up and he looked at the both of us.
"Your here." he said.
"Yeah. Have been for a while." I said.
"Okay. Well now that everyone's here, I have an announcement."
Tino and Berwald fell silent as Mathias stood up.
"Today we will begin planning for your discharge from the hospital."
My eyes grew wide as I realized what phase three meant. We were going back to the real world.
