I have read all your reviews and took everything you said into account and a lot of things are explained and changed in this chapter
Chapter 13
Piper's POV
I shone my pocket torch on James back and stumbled back from the shock of what I was seeing it was not just the James I knew there. Sprouting out of his back was a pair of wings not unlike Lelantos' wings, the only difference as opposed to the all gold, James' were a very dark shade of green although it does sound nice, it suited him a lot.
"James you have wings that is why your back feels heavy." I just gave it to him straight. He tried to stand up and was immediately unsteady, I rushed to him and laid my hands on his shoulders pushing him back down.
"Pipes what are you doing I need to stand up" He spoke gently not that it was going to work on me.
"No you are going to lay down and rest, you are not getting up. You are not strong enough, especially with the weight of your wings."
"I can't rest, we have to get to my mother"
"James you can hear it in your voice, you are ttired. You aren't superman and you need to think about yourself, not just others. You push yourself too far and too hard, I just don't get why you do it."
"I do it because I want to be good enough for you, that is why."
"Well here is a rule you are to follow, you have to stop trying to be the perfect guy, your imperfections are what make each of us unique. No one even knows your biggest fear, or how Aphrodite did not sense Artemis was pregnant."
"To answer the second one first, my mother was never pregnant it was similar to what happens when Athena gives birth, except I did not come from her head but from the ground at her feet."
"That explains why mother never knew about you. What about your biggest fear like Athena's cabin is deathly afraid of spiders, why have you never told anyone about yours?"
"That would be because I don't have a biggest fear, I was born with three unlike everyone else one fear,that is why I never said. "
"Well can you please tell us what they are" it was Amy who spoke this time.
"Yes in a minute but first I would like to say thank you for protecting us and Amy I think I need to treat you more like the young lady you are, I only treated you like a child because of one of my fears, which is losing the ones I care about, my second is fear of captivity and finally claustrophobia."
"Wow I never knew it was possible to have three major fears, another thing what is your fatal flaw?"
"My flaws are working too hard but also the feeling that I'm not good enough."
"Well work to hard right now, on sleeping and making me comfy. Also you will always be good enough no matter what happens." He slowly stretched out a wing and motioned for me to lay on it which I did tentatively I then felt it slowly bend over me and cover me like I was in a sleeping bag, his wing was a lot softer than I thought it would be, before I could say anything else he had fallen asleep. Also Amy and Caitlyn had gone and set at tent up five minutes ago although they were still listening. I soon fell asleep in the wing of my boyfriend.
I awoke with a start and saw James was gone, there it was again, the scream - a mans scream - I rushed and saw james doubled over in pain, he didn't look to be hurt. "James why are you all the way out here and why are you screaming in pain?"
"I am out here because I knew I would scream and as to why I'm in pain I think if I try hard enough I can get my wings into my back." He scrunched up his face and screamed once again managing to get the partly in but they were then straight back out.
"Nearly there, they came straight back out though, maybe we should wait for trying to put them in, your grand mother Leto may know how to help or even Phoebe as she was Lelantos' mother, she may know how to help you. I cam get my mother to get you something to wear that is if you want to hide them." he smiled at me before he spoke.
"I would like that Piper, as long as it isn't pink purple or frilly." I bowed my head and prayed for my mother to come to us with clothes and let's just say as soon as I mentioned clothes she was there. She honestly looked like a 5 year old who has had too much sugar.
"So Piper you are wanting help with clothes, and you are about 4 inches taller than two weeks ago when I last saw you, what happened?"
"Firstly you have to promise no one will know of what I tell you until the time is right and secondly the clothes are not for me."
"Ok, I swear on Chaos no one will know until you say I can tell people."
"Why did you say you swear on Chaos?"
"That would be because an oath on Chaos if broken you will be made to ffade, where as on the Styx it wouldn't apply to the gods."
"Thank you and the reason is, I am now a Titan as is James who is the one that needs the clothes as he wants to hide the new addition to him." I pointed to him, who was standing to my mothers right. She turned and was as shocked as me when she saw that wings.
"Well James I'm guessing you have Lelantos' power, lucky for you I got all the clothes for him so I know just what to get you and what about you my daughter?"
"I have the powers of Mnemosyne."
"Also my lady you are partly correct." At which point he layed out his arms with palms facing up so she could send his wrist with the two tattoos and spoke again, "I am also the Titan of time."
"Well, well, well someone is very lucky aren't they, I bet it was an easy decision."
"Yes I suppose it was for me as I didn't make the decision, all I told them is I would become a titan only if Piper decided to of her own free will."
"OK then now for the clothes" Aphrodite now clicked her fingers and a changing room appeared and a pile of clothes landed in my arms, now go put them on, the will fit you, because the material stretches around your body to make the perfect fit. After a few minutes James walked out of the changing room. He was wearing a white top with five symbols in circles, the left was a flame, then two hand, after that a set of old scales, next an eye, and finally a tree underneath were the words 'Divergent, one choice can transform you', I had no idea what the symbols were or meant I will ask later. A pair of jeans (not skinny jeans) and a grey jacket (like Sherlocks in Sherlock), and for some reason a green and black beanie. I walked up to him and pulled the beanie of his head.
"No way are you wearing a beanie, I'll keep it safe though." He pouted adorably and I put it on my head. "See it looks much better on me."
"OK I'll agree with you on that one Pipes, and thank you My Lady for the clothes, they are perfect, especially loving the top." He bowed to her and she flashed out.
"Hey dipstick why'd you bow?" I said laughing at him, "Also what's up with that top?"
"What its a book series and the symbols are factions of the society, from left to right, Dauntless the brave, Abnegation the selfless, Candor the honest, Erudite the smart and finally Amity the kind, each person fits into one, Divergent is when you fit into more than one. And I bowed because she helped us and also she is a goddess and even though I'm a Titan know, she is still a lot older than me and I don't want to get on her bad side."
"Honestly you must be the only person at camp who reads, not including the children of Athena."
"Oh well, its relaxing and fun."
"Well let's gets back to your sisters and we'll set off north, try and catch up to the others as only two cars work we can go and when we meet them you can try and fly, I'll go with Jack and the other three can squash into the other car."
"Really I get made to fly, what will I look like to mortals a crow or something?"
"Come on bird boy, we should be going."
-Meanwhile-
Jack's POV
We rode the reindeer non stop yesterday going as far away as we could as James was pretty certain he wanted us safe and I'm not complaining that I only had Reagan for company, it felt so right with her arms wrapped around me, I really need to tell her how I feel. While we were riding today we got to the border with Canada so we decided to wait there for the others, we had been standing in silence for the last ten minutes as well as the ride here. Reagan broke the silence between us.
"Jack are you okay, you haven't said a word all day, I'm just getting worried, have I done something wrong?"
"No Reags you have done nothing wrong its just im nervous and scared."
"I am as well, but the quest is going to go fine"
"Yeah, I wasn't talking about that, I was thinking about something else ever since James gave me some advice."
"What advice would that be, did I want to do what I want to do and live with no regrets or be too scared to do it a regret it for a long time. I decided that I want to live without regret, although I know this may ruin our friendship but here goes, Reagan will you be my girlfriend?"
"You idiot did you really need to ask?"
"OK I'll take that as a no and I'm sorry for asking."
"Oh shut up I said that because obviously I'm going to say yes, why wouldn't I, I've liked you for a while Jack and I'm guessing when James spoke to me he was lying." I'm going to kill that moss face if he told her that I loved her. Woah Jack keep calm I thought to myself.
"What did he lie about?"
"Yesterday he said you'd told him to stop flirting with me once but he told me he didn't know whether it was as a brother you said that or because you loved me but he obviously knee."
"Yes he did know."
"AAaaaah" we heard the scream then a crash in a field and we ran towards the sound and what did we happen to find. James laying face down in the dirt with, no I must be seeing things, are those, no they can't be, that's stupid, but I see them, I see wings on his back, we both grab and arm and flip him over. Reagan runs to get some ambrosia and rushes back, she puts it in his mouth while I sit him up and move his mouth to chew it and then there is a faint mumble from his mouth,
"Mmmm...Phish Food Ice Cream." After a few minutes his face was healed but his left wing hadn't yet, we lifted him to the road as if he crashed the others couldn't be far behind him.
"Jack is it just me or does he have wings and if so how did he get then?" Wasn't that the question we both wanted answering.
-3 minutes earlier-
Piper's POV
James had just told me to pull over as he wanted to try flying it started out OK, a little shaky but he was flying then he crashed into a field I drove as fast as I could to catch up as he flew a lot faster, when I got to the right area, I saw him being carried to the road. He was not walking I realised but carried by two people one a little shorter, another the same height although that was as James' legs were not flat but bent and would add maybe 2-3" on to his height, I really wonder what those two mortals are seeing though. It was only when I rushed over to him that I found that it was not two mortals carrying him but Jack and Reagan.
"How is he, you too?"
"He's had some ambrosia and he should be fine, wing is still broken should mend soon."
"Has he said anything since he crashed?"
"Yeah he has and I quote 'Mmmm...Phish Food Ice Cream.', at least we know his favourite food. " Jack said try to keep a light hearted mood. "On the plus side I'm glad he crashed when he did and not a minute earlier."
"I want to see if I can guess what it is, but Jack I need your had for this, don't look so scared I'm not going to hurt you." I took his hand and a vision of Jack seeing James falling appeared, I then thought about the time Jack had said and saw his memory and heard every word. I then let go of his hand. "That was some good advise James gave you and I'm happy you too are a couple."
"How in Hades did you do that?"
"The same way James can fly and the way he has an hourglass tattoo on each wrist. We are both now Titans, Amy and Caitlyn saved us while we were asleep, absorbing the powers and by the sounds of it I'm guessing that there is a single line of the Prophecy left, 'and save the goddess under snow'."
"Wait hold up just a minute, you two are Titans, how?"
"You how he made you two leave yesterday, that was because he knew Lelantos was there and Kronos, also Mnemosyne. Obviously James got Kronos and Lelantos' domains as he was the only male there, and I got Mnemosyne's domain of memories, hence how I knew what happened."
James fell to all four screaming in pain and this time his wings fully retracted into to slits in his back which closed up, as did his t-shirt which I found strange but didn't question it. He then rose to a knee a slowly stood up and turned to me.
"How far did they go in this time and why does my head hurt so mmuch?"
"They are fully in bird boy, and that would be because you crashed head first into a field, so no more flying for you."
"OK, and by the way how are you two?" He asks looking at Jack and Reagan.
"We're fine thanks, you scared us when you crashed though but that's all." Jack spoke quickly to try and hide his lie, keyword there, tried.
"Really that's all, Jack you are as good at lying as I am at flying or Zeus at keeping it in his pants. Now I'll ask, did anything else happen while we weren't here."
"Fine yes a minute before you crashed I asked Reagan out and she said yes, and the first thing we did as a couple was save your sorry ass."
"OK Jack no need for the last part, that was harsh. Reagan I said he'd be an idiot not to like you." I smiled at that part, I definitely think a bit of Aphrodite child is rubbing of on him.
Then the border guards turned up, and called out to us, "you there with the long jacket on you need to come with us." Whatever this was, it could not be a good thing especially when we don't know how long Artemis can hold out. This was turning into one hell of an adventure.
