A/N: So sorry if the writing is too choppy guys. I have got no clue why I didn't update earlier; this chap was pretty much ready when I last updated.
Thanks for the reviews guys :)
Emolichic1: Thanks. I always struggle ever so slightly when writing battle scenes, so that's good to hear! And as you know, KRENT 4EVER!
James Birdsong: Thanks.
hewhoreaps: Well, hopefully, you'll find this chap interesting ;)
Sacherine: As I've mentioned above, it makes me happy that you (and the others) found the battle scene satisfying.
brankel1: And I love you; thanks!
person: Read on and you'll find out that she is... which you probably have already done by now.
"C'mon Kim!" Michael urged, trying to get Kim off his jeep. He had parked next to the Angel Grove Park around ten minutes ago when Kim suddenly became shy. She just flat out refused to get out of the jeep.
"Kim. You've been waiting for this for a while now. You were so excited!" Conner exclaimed. Ethan cleared his throat. "What?"
"Remember Thomas Oliver?" the blue ranger discreetly whispered.
"Oh!" It finally dawned on Conner. "Umm, we'll wait down there," he said, pointing to the entrance of the park. Michael nodded as the boys went off before promptly turning back to Kim.
"I'm sorry Michael," Kim started. "It's just... Tommy. I don't know how to face him! He probably thinks the worst of me! After all, he thinks I left him for another guy. It seemed like a great idea at the time but now I'm not sure."
Michael knew she was talking about the letter. The letter which had ended such a sweet, innocent relationship. The letter in which Kim had told lie after lie after lie. The guilt was overwhelming. But Kim knew that if she hadn't lied, Tommy would've never let her go.
Michael sighed. He had no idea how to ease her worries. He understood the situation but he himself had never been in her shoes so he couldn't exactly offer her any helpful advice. If she continued like this, he might have to carry her to the park. Luckily for him, he didn't need to.
"Kimberly!"
Mike and Kim both turned their heads to see a young, radiant, African-American woman bouncing towards them with Conner and Ethan in tow.
"Aisha!" Kim exclaimed, her worries temporarily forgotten as the other woman almost knocked the air out of her.
"What are you doing here? The reunion is actually IN the park ya know?" Aisha chimed.
Kim grinned and asked, "How did you know I was here?" even though she already knew the answer. Conner and Ethan.
"These two lads told me!" Aisha replied, gesturing towards said boys.
Michael laughed as Aisha seemed to only just notice his presence. "My, my, who's this?"
Kim and Mike exchanged looks. They could tell that Aisha was getting the wrong idea but there was nothing they could do about it. The reunion was only for rangers and bringing a random man - and a pair of high school kids - who you were just friends with, was just plain weird. So Kim chose to avoid commenting on the nature of their relationship altogether.
"Oh this is Michael, his son, Conner, and Conner's friend, Ethan," she simply stated, which was pretty much the truth anyway. Kim rolled her eyes as she caught the dirty looks that Ethan and Conner threw each other at the word 'friend'. "Aren't you two cute?" (Bromance ;) )
Aisha giggled and Michael smirked as Kim proceeded to pinch Ethan's cheeks and ruffle Conner's hair.
"Ouch!"
"My hair!"
"C'mon guys," Aisha said, leading the quartet to the park.
Upon entering the park, Kim found that it was surprisingly easy to interact with her old teammates, despite seeing Tommy there. She was hugging and meeting so many of the other former rangers that she didn't even have time to think about her ex.
Aisha was at Kim's side when an old friend greeted the former with a kiss. He pulled away from his girlfriend, sent Kim a wink and then hugged her.
"Rocky?!" Kim exclaimed, pleasantly surprised. "Oh my God! Sha! Since when?"
Aisha blushed a bit as she looked at her hand, entwined with Rocky's.
"Well actually, it's thanks to Zordon! We came here to pay our respects to him and we realised that time waits for no-one. If you love someone, you just have to go for it," Rocky explained.
"Remember our ranger days? If we waited around forever, evil would rule the world. Even now, any of us could die at any moment. So we decided not to waste time and finally told each other how we felt. And it all worked out," Aisha elaborated, pulling Rocky in for another kiss.
"Ooookay, I'm just going to go and talk to...," Kim trailed off when she saw someone she thought she'd never see again. "Billy?!" She wasted no time in practically sprinting towards the original blue ranger.
"It's great to see you again Kim," Billy told her, after a quick hug.
"I didn't expect to see you here Billy! What are you doing back on Earth?" Kim inquired. It was wonderful to see Billy again, especially since he wasn't expected to return. He had been so in love with Cestria and Aquitar. As soon as she asked, the yellow dino ranger noticed the downcast look in Billy's eyes and realised that something happened on Aquitar. Something he didn't want to talk about.
"Umm, something went wrong," he answered dejectedly, before pushing whatever it was out of his mind. "But hey, if I wasn't here, who do you think would've set all this up?"
"Oh, plenty of people! Maybe me, or Zack, or Trini!" Kim jested, snickering at Billy's face. "Joking!"
She moved on, chatting to her other old teammates, introducing them to her new teammates and meeting more of the recent former rangers.
Michael was talking to Kimberly about something when a familiar voice spoke.
"Hi, Kim." She'd know that voice anywhere. Jason Lee Scott.
"Jase!" Kim instantly pounced onto Jason, her surrogate brother. Even after all these years, Jason was the same. The same comforting presence that enveloped her.
"Woah, Kim, you're killing me here!" Jason just about managed to croak. The yellow ranger immediately released him, chuckling nervously and scratching her head awkwardly.
"Sorry. It's just that I haven't seen you since Murianthas!" Kimberly explained. "What have you been up to?"
"We should ask you," came another voice. And that was it. Kim forced herself to turn around and come face to face with none other than…
Thomas Oliver.
Elation.
Nostalgia.
Excitement.
Nervousness.
And then Guilt.
"Happy to see me, Kim?" Tommy inquired but got no response. Kimberly just stared. She let her eyes wander over him, before reluctantly meeting his eyes.
"Yes," Kim forced out, fighting the temptation to run away. She took a deep breath and crept a few tentative steps towards Tommy, finally hugging him. It took a while for him to respond, putting his arms around her.
Michael and Jason took this as a cue to leave...
Realising that they had been embracing far too long, Tommy released Kim and led her to a bench.
"It's been a while," Kim stated nervously, fiddling with her hands.
"It has," Tommy agreed.
"So, is every former ranger here?" she questioned, deciding to talk about something safe.
"Every ranger but Merrick Baliton of the Wild Force Rangers," Tommy answered with a somewhat wistful sigh. "Oh and four members of the Ninja Storm team. Only those two have shown up." He jerked his head in the general direction of two very antisocial looking ninjas, who were immersed in an argument about a motorbike. "They bicker like an old married couple."
"You mean Hunter and Cam?" Kim chirped, amused at the comment. "Anyway, I didn't get round to asking about Merrick. Why isn't he here?"
"Oh, he's a lone wolf," Tommy replied simply. His ex quirked her eyebrow at him, probing for further explanation. He chuckled before continuing. "From what I heard from Cole, there's a painful memory connected to Merrick's past as a ranger which ties to an even more painful memory from before that. Love. He was, and still is, in love with the Wild Force guardian Princess Shayla. It's been 3000 years..."
"Is she...?" Kim trailed off, not sure on how to phrase it. 3000 years?! The ranger world sure was strange.
"No. She's in an eternal sleep, more or less. She forbade Merrick from going with her, telling him to carry on life without her. It was her duty. What she didn't know, is that a man can never let go of the woman he loves..." Tommy finished, his eyes glazed over with a longing that suddenly made Kimberly feel uncomfortable. The look in his eyes was far too personal for her liking.
Kim was about to change the subject when the dreaded question came up. "Why did you leave me?" She immediately blushed and started fidgeting. She had no idea what to say. Kim was pretty much a deer caught in headlights.
"I - I told you already... I had training," she mumbled, looking down.
"No. You left me for another guy. If it was because of your 'training', you would've dumped me before going to the Pan Global Games," Tommy said, his voice eerily calm.
"You're right. I should have broken up with you before going to the games! But that's in the past, so don't bring it up," Kim argued, getting more irritated than she would've like to. Tommy was making her think about things she'd rather leave behind. "I'm going."
Almost as soon as she stood up, her ex pulled her back down by the hand. Kim pulled her hand away from Tommy's and gave him a questioning glare.
"I just need to know," he muttered. Kim promptly softened at his shattered tone. "That letter was like poison to me. My whole world came crashing down. You were the one person who kept me going through all that madness. All the fighting, all the drama, all the evil. None of it mattered when I had you; when I read your letters. Until that very letter. How ironic; my biggest comfort became my biggest heartbreak…"
The yellow ranger was near tears. She could no longer blame Tommy for despising her, for she hated herself too. How selfish had she been? In order to achieve her dreams, she cut off the dream she had already achieved. Those medals were nothing compared to him. He had to know that. And yet he didn't… Due to her lies.
"I never meant to cause you pain. I was young. I was blinded by the glory of winning the games, winning the medals, winning the trophies. I was selfish," she admitted, both to herself and to her ex.
"Is it him?" Tommy suddenly asked, focused on something behind her. She turned to see Michael talking to the currently social Hunter and Cam. "You two do seem quite close."
"No!" Kim protested, surprised at how many people were getting the wrong idea about her and Mike.
"So you don't love him?"
"I do love him," the yellow ranger stated casually. Tommy's eyes were red as he looked between her and her friend. She misunderstood his despondency for astonishment and carried on. "But like a brother. Hell, his son is like my annoying little brother/nephew. They're like my family."
Kim was slightly stunned by her confession. The dino rangers had crept up on her and wormed their way into her heart so slowly - but surely - that she hadn't realised until now.
On the other hand, Tommy was relieved and secretly delighted. When Kim showed up with her friends, a million exaggerated theories went through his mind. He had even though that Kim had shown up with her husband, their adopted son and their 'tall' eleven-year-old kid. Although he still found it suspicious how Kim had brought her 'family' along to a ranger reunion party, he was glad she wasn't here with her boyfriend. But he still didn't know who that guy was.
"Like your family? That's great! But please tell me who that guy is. If you were really that busy with training-"
"There is no guy," Kim confessed, cutting the former green ranger off.
"What?!" Tommy exclaimed.
"There is no guy," she repeated. "Tommy, please don't hate me! I lied, okay? I lied!"
Seeing that Kimberly was clearly distressed, he took her hands in his own. "Why?"
"Gunther wanted me to focus. He obviously knew about us and thought you were a distraction. I guess I didn't know how to let you know that I was basically choosing my career over you. So I lied to you," Kim explained.
To her surprise (and secret delight), Tommy pulled her into an embrace. As Kim snuggled into his chest, it all came back to her: why she fell in love with him in the first place. After all, how could she not? Despite everything, instead of hating her, Tommy was hugging her.
"But Kim?"
"Yes?" she responded, her arms still around him.
"Telling me you dumped me for a guy is way worse than dumping me for gymnastics!" Tommy complained, his heart warming when she giggled at him. Maybe… just maybe… they had a chance.
"Oh, I hope that's not Conner!" Michael muttered as he spotted a red figure scampering around the park, failing miserably at his attempt to be discreet.
"No, I think that's Rocky," Zack replied, nonchalantly sipping his cola.
"What's he doing?" Adam asked. "Spying on other rangers at a ranger reunion?"
"A troublemaker is he?" Michael questioned.
"Yes, he is. In fact, he wants to pull a prank on the girls," Zack responded, sniggering to himself.
"I thought you'd be up for that," Adam said, his eyebrow quirked at Zack's strange behaviour.
"I would. If it weren't for that," Zack gestured towards Rocky, who was half hiding behind a tree. Adam guffawed as he noticed that Rocky hadn't been spying but had been trying to avoid anyone seeing the state of his hair. Instead of hair, his head seemed to be occupied by sticky strings.
"Aisha will love that!" Adam exclaimed, snorting. "I have to go and find Tanya!"
Just as Adam left to find his girlfriend, Michael's morpher/bracelet beeped. He excused himself from Zack and ran over to a secluded area of the park.
"Doctor M, get back to Reefside now. It's an emergency!" Kira hollered from the other end. She clearly wasn't at the leisure to explain the situation so he immediately replied. "I'm on my way!"
Before he even had time to think of an excuse to drag the dino rangers out of there, he came face to face with Zeltrax.
"Doctor McKnight, we meet again..." he drawled out, attempting to be dramatic.
"Great timing. Didn't anyone tell you that you're uninvited?" Mike retorted.
"Aren't you going to call your precious rangers?"
Mike scoffed. "Stop overestimating yourself," he stated confidently, before lunging at Zeltrax. Tyrannodrones jumped in and proceeded to attack Michael as well. "Can't fight your own battles?"
"This is between us two! No one will attack him but me!" Zeltrax hollered, angered at Mike's obvious enjoyment at his torment.
"Mike!" Both Mike and Zeltrax whipped their heads towards the yellow ranger, who had just arrived, with several other rangers in tow.
"Who are they?" Tanya asked.
"Why are they here?" Trini inquired.
They got their answers when Mike and Kim shared a nod, and simultaneously yelled out: "Dino Thunder, power up, hah!"
To everyone's surprise, Mike and Kim had morphed into the black and yellow dino rangers, respectively.
