Chapter 14

Season 1, Episode 14 'Fool Me Once'

In a musty old motel room, Elena groggily awakens. She spots Noah sitting in a chair by the end of the bed, sleeping. She gasps and sits up frantically, she looks around for a way out and stares at the front door. She looks from Noah to the door, estimating if she can make it without waking him. Quietly, Elena slides off the bed and slowly steps over Noah's outstretched leg. She slowly backs up to the door, keeping an eye on him. Elena unlocks the deadbolt on the door, looking back at Noah occasionally. She slowly turns the lock on the door and prepares to open it.

"I wouldn't."

Elena gasps and spins around. Noah is standing there just inches away from her and tries to compel her.

"Don't try to escape." He instructs her, "Don't even move. Do you understand?"

"I understand." Elena replies semi-lifelessly.

He scoffs and turns around to get a bottle of blood out of the mini fridge. Elena opens the front door and bolts out, but Anna blocks her escape. She grabs Elena by the hair and pushes her back into the motel room.

"Seriously?!" Anna asks looking annoyed.

"I told her not to move!" Noah complains, "I did that eye thing that you taught me!"

"And forgot the lesson about vervain!" Anna adds angrily, "She dates a vampire, Noah. Duh!"

Anna pushes Elena up against a wall and opens the bathroom door.

"Who are you?" Elena asks, "What do you want?"

"Does it matter?" Anna answers.

She forcefully pushes Elena into the bathroom and shuts the door. Elena flips the light switch and calmly searches the room for another exit. She looks over towards the bathtub and sees Bonnie lying in it, unconscious. Elena rushes over to her.

"Bonnie?" Elena asks as she lifts her head up, "Oh my god!"

...

At the Salvatore Boarding House, Damon is in the study, reading through Emily's grimoire. Stefan enters the room with an anxious look on his face and Damon does not look up at him.

"Anna took Elena." Stefan exclaims worriedly.

"Yeah, I got that from your 600 voice-mails." Damon replies.

Stefan strides across the room towards him.

"Damon, all night long, every single street in town, I've been searching." Stefan explains, "What if your blood hasn't passed out of her system?"

"Well, then at least you know you'll see her again." Damon says with an almost smile

"Please." Stefan pleads as he sits down on the sofa, next to Damon, "What do you know? You were with Anna, you must know where's she living. Just tell me where I can find her."

"Nope." Damon finally looks up at him, "You can go. Really."

"You know, all I can remember is hating you." Stefan explains truthfully, "There might have been a time when that was different, but your choices have erased anything good about you."

Damon lays the grimoire down and gives his attention to Stefan.

"But see, I also know you have just as much reason to hate me." he continues, "This all began with me. Katherine got taken away from you because of me. And I'm sorry."

"Apology accepted." Damon nods.

"So please, just tell me what you know." Stefan begs, "It's Elena, Damon. If you know something, tell me."

Damon stands up and Stefan mimics him, looking at Damon with anxiety.

"I mean this sincerely." Damon says as Stefan nods, anticipating his answer. "I hope Elena dies."

He walks past Stefan, leaving the room in silence.

...

Back at the motel room,Elena wets a cloth in the sink and places it on Bonnie's forehead as she slowly opens her eyes.

"Bonnie?" Elena asks, "Oh, you're okay!

"My head..." Bonnie croaks.

"Come here." Elena replies as she pulls her upright.

"Oh my god!" Bonnie exclaims, "What happened?"

"Shhhh." Elena whispers as she gestures at her ear and points toward the door, "They can hear."

Elena gets up and turns on the tap before she kneels back down next to Bonnie.

"It was all going so well," Bonnie explains, "Jason was a perfect gentleman. He dropped me off in front of my house, and we even kissed, but then...I remember nothing?"

"So you think Jason knows about all of this?" Elena asks.

"No, I don't think he knew anything," Bonnie replies, "What's going on? Why are we here?"

"It must have something to do with the tomb and Emily's spell book." Elena states.

"Spell book?" Bonnie questions.

"Damon said it could be used to open the tomb." Elena adds.

"Why didn't I know about any of this?" Bonnie asks.

"I was trying to keep you out of it, hoping it would never come to this." Elena explains.

"Come to what?" Bonnie questions, looking confused.

"They need a witch to break the spell and let the vampires out." Elena adds.

"No way!" Bonnie complains.

Suddenly Noah bursts through the door, Elena grabs Bonnie's shoulders protectively as he turns the tap off.

"You're wasting your time." Bonnie states, "I'm not gonna help you."

Noah smiles devilishly and grabs Elena. Bonnie reaches out to try to pull her back, but he manages to pull Elena away from her.

"That's why she's here." Noah answers, "Motivation for you to behave."

He pushes Elena out of the room, roughly as Bonnie gets up from the tub. Noah shuts the bathroom door.

"She wants to talk to you." Noah tells her.

Elena stumbles into the motel room where Anna leans against a table, looking at her.

"Well, well. Elena Gilbert. You really are Katherine's doppelgänger." Anna says as she stares at her, "You must have the Salvatore boys reeling."

"Who are you?" Elena asks.

"I'm Anna. Your brother may have mentioned me." Anna replies with a smile.

...

At Merlotte's Grill and Bar, Jeremy is sitting at a table, doing homework. Nearby, Tyler is shooting pool while Matt cleans a table and talks to him.

"Ten kegs? You know how much damage we could do with ten kegs?" Tyler says with enthusiasm, "Duke's got it all hooked up."

"Duke's a douche." Matt replies.

"Yeah, a douche with ten kegs." Tyler replies, "Aka, my new best friend."

In the corner Jeremy scoffs to himself before Tyler turns around and gives him death glares.

Suddenly the door opens and in walks Caroline and Callie, they walk over to Jeremy.

"Hey, Jer." Callie says casually as he looks up.

"Do you know where Elena is?" Caroline asks, "I've been texting her and Bonnie all day about Duke's party."

"Uh, she went somewhere with Stefan." Jeremy answers.

"I am so not going to be one of those girls who disappears just because she has a new boyfriend." Caroline replies as Callie rolls her eyes.

"Who is Duke?" Jeremy asks curiously.

"Some guy that graduated a couple of years ago." Caroline explains, "And he throws a party every time he comes home from Duke."

"Wait, Duke goes to Duke?" Jeremy questions.

"His real name's Bob or something." Callie cuts in as Jeremy laughs quietly,

"He's a total ass." Caroline states.

"But he buys the beer." Callie adds.

"You know, you should come." Caroline says with a smile as Callie slaps her on the wrist, "Oww, what was that for?"

"For inviting my brother to Duke's party," Callie replies with a smile.

"Uh, yeah, I - I don't think so." Jeremy says.

"No, seriously." Caroline says as she looks at Callie, "Everyone goes. Even quiet loner little brothers."

"Uh, maybe." Jeremy answers as Caroline spots Matt.

"Think about it." She replies before walking over to Matt.

"Hey!" She greets happily, "So, I have a speech. It is fully scripted and well-rehearsed. Are you ready for it?"

"You wrote a speech?" Matt asks.

"Yes. It's a 'You kissed me and I don't want things to be weird' speech. It's preemptive." Caroline explains.

"Preemptive?" Matt chuckles.

Yeah, you know, in case you were having second thoughts or regrets, or were, like, ooged out-" She continues.

"Ooged, huh?" Matt questions.

"Can I just get on with the speech part?" Caroline asks.

"Yeah, go for it." He nods.

"So I know that you don't think that this is going to work out between us." She explains, "I just want to let you know that right here and right now, I'm offering you an out. Like an escape clause."

"Why are you giving me an escape clause?" Matt questions.

"I don't wanna make assumptions about what it is we're doing here." Caroline answers.

"Got it." Matt nods.

"So, if you would like to exercise it, just let me know." She adds.

"I'm good, but thanks." Matt replies with a smile.

" ." Caroline sighs, "So, see you for Duke's tonight?"

"Yeah." Matt answers as he gets back to work.

Jeremy and Callie sit at a table nearby and watch their conversation.

"So why are you here?" Jeremy asks.

"Moral support." Callie replies, "She didn't have the courage to come here alone, so..."

"Code of sisterhood." Jeremy nods as she throws fries at him and laughs.

Callie looks over and spots Tyler watching her playing with her brother, as she suddenly stops. A furious headache rips through her.

"She looks good. Not as good as she would with me but.."

She hears a voice in her head as she closes her eyes and wishes for it to stop.

"I should go see Sam," Callie says quickly, "It's been a while since I've seen him."

She leaves the table and walks through to the back, but instead of walking down the hall the Sam's office, she heads straight through the back door and outside.

Callie stops in the daylight and breathes deeply as the voices disappear and she is left with her silent self once again.

"Callie? Are you alright?"

She turns around to see Tyler walking towards her looking concerned.

"I'm fine." She replies, "Just needed some air."

"Oh okay." Tyler stops and looks at her, "Umm...good."

They stand there for an awkward moment as Callie remembers with a smile about the other awkward moment of the week.

"So how have you been?" Tyler asks her, "I know we haven't talked in a while, so how are you doing?"

"I'm fine Tyler," Callie replies, "You don't have to worry, really I'm all good."

"Good." He nods, "So uh, you planning on going to Duke's party tonight?"

"Maybe." Callie sighs as she rolls her eyes and checks her phone, "Look I gotta go Tyler."

"But, wait." Tyler says as he stares into her eyes.

"What?" She stops and looks at him, waiting for a question.

He stands there, frozen. Unable to think of anything to say to her about how he felt. She sighs and turns around and walks off.

...

Damon stops in front of Bonnie's Grandmother, Shelia's house and surveys the area and he walks up the the front door and knocks loudly.

"Yes?" Sheila answers.

"Hi there. I'm, uh, looking for Bonnie." Damon explains.

"She's not here." Shelia states bluntly.

"Oh, well do you know when she..." He asks.

"Never." She cuts in.

"You have quite an opinion for someone who doesn't know me." Damon chuckles.

"You got some nerve knocking on a Bennett witch's door and asking her for anything." Sheila replies.

"What'd I do?" Damon asks.

"Spirits talk, Mr. Salvatore, and so does my granddaughter." Sheila says, "You are no friend to us. Now get off my porch."

Damon takes a step closer to her.

"Step outside and say that." Damon threatens.

Sheila stares at Damon. Suddenly, he groans and holds his head which feels like it's exploding. Damon starts to back and Sheila steps out onto the porch.

"I am not Bonnie." She states confidently, "You don't wanna mess with me."

Sheila goes back into her house and slams the door shut, breathing heavily as she leans against the front door.

...

At the motel room, Anna peers out the curtain, looking outside.

"Bonnie's not gonna open the tomb." Elena states firmly.

"Oh, I think she will." Anna replies.

"Do you really want Katherine out that bad?" Elena asks as Anna looks over at her.

Trust me. No one I know wants to see that girl again." Anna says, "Except Damon, the love struck idiot."

"Then what is it?" Elena questions, "Or who is it?"

"My mother's in there." Anna explains as she walks closer towards Elena. "Katherine couldn't help herself. She just had to toy around with both of the Salvatore brothers. And when she got caught, so did my mother. I watched Jonathan Gilbert take her away."

"I'm sorry." Elena apologizes sincerely.

"You really mean that, don't you?" Anna chuckles to herself, "Yeah, I think we'll skip the dead mom bonding so you can start serving a purpose."

"Which is what?" Elena asks.

"Leverage." Anna states, "This belong to you?"

She holds up Elena's phone. Elena tries to grab it from her, but Anna pulls it away.

She walks across the room, dialing a number on the phone. The phone rings and Stefan picks up from the other end, at the Salvatore House.

"Elena?" Stefan answers, "Are you okay?"

"She's fine. For now." Anna replies, "Tell me you have the grimoire and she'll stay fine."

Damon enters the room, leaning against the door frame of the study in the Salvatore house.

"I can get it." Stefan tell her.

"Which means your brother has it. And I have the witch." Anna says, "So one of you had better meet me in the very public town square in thirty minutes so we can safely discuss how fun it's gonna be to work together"

Anna hangs up.

Stefan does the same and looks back at Damon

"Go ahead. Grovel again." Damon states, "Oh, wait no... I don't care."

He leaves the room.

...

Anna is walking through the Town Square. Jeremy sees her from the Grill and runs over to her.

"Anna! Hey-uh, what happened to you last night?" Jeremy asks.

"Sorry, I had to leave." Anna explains, "I told Elena to tell you."

"I haven't seen her." Jeremy replies.

"Well, I gotta run, so-" Anna turns to leave.

"Hey, do you wanna go to a party tonight?" Jeremy asks.

"Go to what?" Anna questions.

"Oh, the guy who's throwing it is a total douche, but it's supposed to be fun." Jeremy tell her, "I figured, you know, safety in numbers."

"So, you're finally ready to go out with me, are you?" Anna chuckles as she looks at him.

"It's been a while since I've been to a party, and I kind of want to get back out there." Jeremy explains, "And not be such a - a loner. And, uh, I like you. You're fun, and you're also kind of strange and lurky but, uh, I guess I like that, too. So, yeah, you should come to the party. With me. It's in the woods by that old cemetery."

"Oh. It's there, huh? That sounds cool." Anna says with a smile, "Uh, I'll meet you."

"Oh. Okay! Great." Jeremy replies.

Anna starts to walk away as Jeremy watches her.

"Okay." Anna nods.

Anna glances back at him and Jeremy leaves. She sits down on a bench, waiting and looking around. Suddenly, Damon appears next to her, sitting on the bench.

"Got a hot date or are you just plan on nabbing the entire Gilbert family?" He asks.

"A party, right next to the old cemetery. Isn't that nice of them?" Anna answers happily, "Lots of warm bodies for starving vampires."

"I told you. I work alone." Damon states.

"Yeah, so do I. But your minus a witch and I'm minus a spell book. So what do you say?" Anna offers.

"Stefan will come after you, you know that." Damon replies, "For messing with Elena."

"Then he won't be to happy if I kill her when I don't get what I want." Anna threatens.

She gets up and starts to walk away as Damon scrunches up his face and sighs.

"When do you want to do this?" he asks as she smiles and turns around, laughing at Damon.

"God, it's like 1864 all over again. You Salvatores are truly pathetic when it comes to women." Anna says, "Tonight. After sundown. Meet at the church."

She walks off and leaves and Damon watches her go.

...

Back at the motel room, Elena and Bonnie have resumed their seats on the beds as Noah paces in front of them.

"Witches don't have eternal life, right? So you guys can die." Noah asks.

"Yep. We can die." Bonnie confirms.

"Ah. That sucks." Noah replies.

All of a sudden, Stefan kicks the door in. Noah screams as the sunlight starts to burn his skin. Stefan rips the curtain open, allowing more sunlight to pour in as Noah hides in the dark between the two beds.]

"Stefan!" Elena shouts as she and Bonnie stand up.

"Let's get outside!" Stefan yells as they run to the door.

Stefan walks over to Noah, looking down at him.

"When the sun goes down, leave town." Stefan tells him bluntly, "If I ever see you again, I will kill you."

And with that he turns around and leaves.

...

Bonnie is at her Grams as she and Sheila sit at a table, conversing.

"How did you know where we were?" Bonnie asks.

"Many things can fuel a witches power. Worry. Anger." Sheila explains, "After Stefan told me they had taken you, I had a lot of both. Simple locator spell was easy after that."

"I'm sorry." Bonnie apologizes, "About all of this."

"Not as sorry as they're gonna be." Sheila replies with a smirk.

Stefan and Elena enter the room.

"So what do we do now?" Elena asks.

"Well, for now, you need to stay here." Stefan tells Sheila.

"A prisoner, in my own home? I don't think so." she shakes her head.

"I can't protect you if you leave the house." Stefan says.

"We'll protect ourselves." Sheila replies.

"We need to let him have Katherine back." Elena explains, "He's not going to stop until he gets her. If we help him, maybe that ends it."

"No! He doesn't deserve to get what he wants." Bonnie exclaims.

"What other choice do we have?" Elena questions as she looks up at Stefan.

"Witches being pulled down by vampire problems. As much as we tried to do to stay out of it." Sheila complains, "I'll open the tomb. You get your brother's girl and destroy the rest with fire. Then this will be all over.:

"We still have to get Damon to agree." Stefan reminds them.

"He already agreed once." Elena adds.

"Yeah, and then we double crossed him." Stefan states, "So now he's angry."

"He's hurt. There's a difference." Elena replies as she pulls out her phone, "I think I know what might work."

...

Anna walks back up to the motel room. She sees that the door is wide open and Elena and Bonnie have escaped.

"You've got to be kidding me." She mutters as she walks inside.

"Noah, who is still crouched between the two beds, his hoodie over his head, peers out to see her standing in the doorway.

"It was Stefan." he mutters, "There was nothing I could..."

Anna holds her finger up at him.

"Shut up! Stop talking." she instructs him as she rubs her face with her hands and sits down in a chair. "Without the witch, we don't have Damon or the grimoire. Damon's not gonna stop. He'll find a way in. And we're gonna be there when he does."

...

At the Salvatore Boarding House, Damon puts on his jacket, preparing to leave as Callie enters the room and removes her scarf, he looks up at her.

"I'm gonna have to change the locks." Damon says as he picks up the grimoire.

"I wouldn't come here so often if I didn't have to." Callie replies, "Elena and Bonnie are safe, in case you were wondering."

"Ah, great." Damon nods sarcastically.

"And Elena convinced Bonnie to help you." Callie adds.

"I doubt that." Damon states.

She walks around the edge of the study towards the stairs, leading to the sunken part of the room where Damon is.

"I know that you may not want to work with us at the moment," Callie explains, "and that's understandable but if you don't then you're just being stupid."

"Well, at least you're honest." Damon replies.

"Can't you see? We're all on the same side, after the same thing." She continues.

"Not interested." Damon states as he starts to leave.

"Yes you are," Callie says, "Because you were willing to work with us yesterday."

"Fool me once, shame on you." Damon turns around to look at her.

"Okay, what about when we were in Atlanta," Callie exclaims, "You know that you can't compel me but you took me anyway."

Damon places the grimoire on a table and walks towards Callie, crossing his arms.

"Who's to say I didn't?" He questions.

"You didn't. I know you, you can't. And I know how much that frustrates you, how much you have to guard yourself around me," Callie explains, "You and I... we have something. An understanding. And I know that my betrayal hurt you, different from how it is with you and Stefan, but I'm promising you this now, I will help you get Katherine back."

"I wish I could believe you." Damon groans, looking unconvinced.

"But you have no way of knowing for certain." Callie replies, "So you'll just have to trust me."

"You know Anna won't stop, by the way, no matter what I do." Damon states.

"Then we'll deal with it." Callie confirms as she stares into his eyes.

"I brought you with me to Atlanta because I thought we could have some fun." Damon sighs, "I thought it was real, I want it to be real. I'm trusting you. Don't make me regret it."

And with that he walks away, leaving Callie speechless.

...

Callie and Damon arrive at the Woods and see over a dozen students drinking and chatting as Duke's party kicks off. They spot Elena standing near the corner as the walk over to meet her.

"Wasn't sure you'd come." Elena says as she looks at Damon.

"I was." Callie replies as she looks around, "The Duke party, I forgot."

"Yeah well, I hope they stay clear of the church." Elena worries.

"Your hope, not mine." Damon states bluntly.

Matt and Caroline walk up to them.

"Elena, Callie, hey!" Caroline greets happily, "Oh my God, where have you been?"

She intertwines her fingers with Matt's as Elena glances over and notices the small gesture.

"Long story, no time to tell it." Damon explains.

"I wasn't talking to you." Caroline replies.

"Sure you were." Damon smiles as Matt steps forward.

"We haven't met." Matt says as he hold out his hand, "I'm Matt."

Damon stares at his hand for a moment before responding.

"Matt, there's a reason we haven't met." He states, "We are going that way."

Damon grabs Callie's arms and starts dragging her away as Elena follows behind. She looks back at Matt and Caroline as she walks.

"Ah, I'm sorry, guys." Elena apologizes as they watch her go.

...

Stefan climbs up from the tomb with a shovel in hand.

"Cleared the debris away and set the torches like you asked." he says, "We can get down now."

He places the shovel against a rock. Cans of gasoline lie near by and Bonnie looks at them.

"What is that?" She asks.

"It's everything I need to destroy them." Stefan explains as he hands Sheila a flashlight.

"Are you sure that Damon will come back?" She questions.

From behind them comes a whistles as they turn and look at Damon.

"Brother. Witches." he nods as he strides past them with the grimoire.

Callie and Elena trudge along behind him as he descends the stairs into the tomb. Elena walks over to Stefan.

"Everything okay?" he asks her.

"I just want to get this over with." Elena replies, "Are we ready?"

"I guess so." Bonnie confirms.

...

In the tomb, Sheila is lighting the torches. Bonnie stands next to her and Stefan, Damon, Callie and Elena watch from the entrance.

"Air. Earth. Fire." Sheila says.

"Water." Bonnie adds as she holds up a water bottle.

"Sheila takes it, sprinkling the water on the floor.

"That's it?" Callie questions, "Just water from the tap?"

"As opposed to what?" Sheila asks.

"I just figured maybe it would have to be blessed or mystical or something." Callie shrugs.

Sheila smirks at Callie, as Damon pulls out a blood bag and unravels it.

"What's that?" Stefan asks.

"It's for Katherine." Damon explains, "Gotta have something to get her going. Unless your girl's offering a vein to tap."

He looks back at Elena, who looks at him, unamused. Stefan sighs as Damon leans over and whispers to him.

"Admit it - you can't wait to get rid of me."

"I can't wait to get rid of you." Stefan chuckles.

Bonnie looks up at them from the ground.

"We're ready." She says.

...

At Duke's party in the woods, Jeremy is leaning against a tree as Anna spots him and walks over.

"This place is wild." she says.

"You kinda like dead people, huh?" Jeremy replies.

"I'm strange, remember? You okay?" Anna asks.

"Uh, yeah. Yeah." Jeremy nods, "This place makes me think about someone."

"A dead someone?" Anna questions.

"No, no, just... someone I used to know." Jeremy explains as he looks at her, "So, uh, hey, we made it all of what, thirty-seven minutes, in that party?"

"Not your scene?" Anna smiles and laughs.

"I'm not really sure what my scene is anymore." Jeremy sighs, "So what do you say? You, uh, you wanna be part of my non-scene?"

"I would happily be a part of your non-scene, except, uh, I'm leaving." Anna exclaims.

"Wait, what?" Jeremy asks looking confused.

"Yeah. My mom and I are moving away." Anna explains.

"Oh. Uh- that's-that's a bummer." Jeremy says looking down.

"So, guess this is goodbye." Anna states.

"I guess it is." Jeremy replies.

Jeremy and Anna lean into each other and kiss. Anna pulls away, her face transforming. Jeremy looks at her, alarmed.

"Anna, your face!" Jeremy exclaims as Anna turns around.

"It's nothing." she brushes off.

"It didn't look like nothing." Jeremy retorts.

Suddenly Noah hits Jeremy from behind\ as he falls to the ground, unconscious.

"You didn't have to hit him that hard." Anna sighs, "Grab him and lets go. I'm taking him to meet my mother."

...

Matt is leaning against a tree with a beer in his hand. Tyler sneaks up and swipes the beer out of his hand.

"Hey!" Matt complains as Tyler starts to drink it.

"Aah. Where's your date?" Tyler asks.

"Who knows?" Matt shrugs.

"Aww, is the honeymoon over already?" Tyler teases.

"Maybe." Matt replies.

"After all that grief you gave me about liking her." Tyler tell him, "I figured it would have lasted longer than five minutes."

"Look, I just - I don't know if I can do the whole public couple thing." Matt explains, "She - she seems like she might be a little clingy."

"Well, good. I need my boy single anyway." Tyler answers as he pats Matt's arm.

Caroline approaches them with a smile.

"Hey!" she greets, "There you are."

"Here I am." Matt replies enthusiastically.

"Yeah, well, I'm not drunk enough." Tyler exclaims, "So I'm just gonna go get another beer."

And he walks off to leave Matt and Caroline to talk.

"So..." Caroline says as she looks t him, "I have another speech."

"Okay." Matt nods.

"The hand thing, with Elena, it was lame. Well, I was lame." Caroline explains, "And, hey, your feelings for Elena aside, Damon was there, and he was always such a jerk to me. And I wanted to show off that I was with a good guy. So, anyway, I was lame. So, forgiven?"

"Yeah, of course. Yeah." Matt replies as she smiles with a sigh of relief.

...

Back in the tomb, Bonnie and Sheila are reciting a spell, their eyes shut and hands interlocked.

"What are they saying?" Damon asks.

"Sounds Latin." Stefan answers.

"I don't think it's Latin." Callie adds.

After a few more seconds of the witches reciting the spell, the torches flare up. Elena grabs onto Stefan's arm.

"What's happening?" She questions.

The door to the tomb creaks open. Sheila and Bonnie stop chanting and look up.

"It worked!" Bonnie exclaims.

"Of course it worked." Sheila smiles.

"We have some fires to build." Damon says as he looks to his brother excitedly.

"I'm gonna go get the gasoline, I'll be right back." Stefan explains to Elena.

She nods and Stefan ascends the stairs out of the tomb. Damon looks from Bonnie and Sheila to Elena and then to Callie.

"You ready?" he asks.

"What?" Callie looks at him worriedly.

Damon walks over to Sheila and Bonnie.

"You think I'm gonna go in there by myself so you can seal me in?" He questions as he grabs Callie's arm once again.

"Don't take her in. I'll bring the walls down." Sheila warns.

"You'll bring the walls down if I don't." Damon replies, "You think I trust you?"

"As much as I trust you." Sheila says.

"Enough. Both of you." Callie cuts in, "Look, he needs leverage. He needs to know that you're not going to shut the door when he gets inside. I get it. I'll go."

"You're not going alone," Elena speaks up, "I'm coming with you. To make sure he wouldn't feed you to Katherine instead."

"Like I'd do that." Damon brushes off as he grabs a torch from the circle and looks at Callie, "Shall we?"

Callie nods and steps forward as Damon walks into the tomb. Elena nods at Sheila and Bonnie, reassuringly, and follows her sister down.

...

Stefan runs over to the gasoline and starts to gather the cans up. Suddenly, someone speaks to him.

"Dark down there?"

He straightens up and looks to see Noah with Jeremy, unconscious, lies at his feet.

"Thought I told you to leave." Stefan states.

"I considered it." Noah replies, "Then I thought, screw you."

"Hey, hero." Stefan turns around and sees Anna, "I'm going down there to get my mother."

"I can't let you do that." Stefan tell her.

"Well, Noah's about to make a main course out of Elena's little brother." Anna explains, "So, you can stop me or him. Your choice."

And with that she vamp-runs into the tomb.

...

Damon, Callie and Elena are down in the tomb, searching for Katherine. They hear whispers throughout the tomb.

"What is that?!" Callie asks.

"They can sense you." Damon explains, "Now, where is she?"

He grabs Callie's hand and walks away, leaving Elena behind.

"Damon!" Elena shouts.

...

Anna descends the stairs into the tomb as Bonnie looks over at her.

"Hey, you're not going in there!" Bonnie yells.

"You think you can stop me?" Anna asks confidently.

"Bonnie..." Sheila cuts in as her granddaughter steps aside.

Anna grabs a flashlight from the ground and runs into the tomb. Bonnie turns and looks at Sheila.

"Why did you let her go in?" Bonnie questions furiously.

"Because she isn't coming out, baby." Sheila explains, "None of them are."

...

Above the tomb, Stefan and Noah are in a tense conversation.

"Do you really think that she cares about you?" Stefan asks him, "Hm? You're disposable."

"I don't care." Noah replies, "She already gave me what I want."

"Are you going to say "eternal life"? You really that stupid?" Stefan questions.

"You know, I've heard about you." Noah says as he steps closer towards Stefan, "You don't feed. You're not strong enough to beat me."

He suddenly rushes at Stefan. Stefan thrusts his arm, easily knocking Noah to the ground as he quickly picks up the hose connected to the gasoline can. Noah gets up and looks at Stefan.

"Is that all you got?" Noah asks as he stand up.

"No. I got this." Stefan replies as he ignites the torch and sets Noah on fire.

He screams and flails around, before finally falling to the the ground, dead.

...

Back in the tomb, Elena is still searching for Damon.

"Damon?" Elena yells, "Damon!"

She continues to hear the whispering around her. Startled, she falls but quickly gets back up. Her flashlight beam lands on one of the mummified vampires. As she walks around the room, she sees more and more vampires. Panicked, Elena falls down next to one of the mummified vampires, her beam lands on him and she gasps in shock. The vampire's eyes open and are bloodshot with hunger. She screams loudly and gets up, looking around for an exit. Her beam of light lands on Anna who is standing right behind her.

...

Stefan walks back down into the tomb and looks around.

"Where's Elena?" he asks, "And Callie?"

"Damon took them inside." Bonnie answers.

"What?!" Stefan exclaims as he runs towards the entrance of the tomb.

Sheila grabs his arm.

"Stefan! If you go in there, you won't come out." She warns.

"What did you do?" Stefan asks.

"Opening the door didn't remove the seal, it just opened the door." Sheila explains.

"What's the seal?" he questions.

"Some seals keep vampires from entering." She continues, "This one keeps them from coming out."

"Elena and Callie are human, they can leave." Stefan thinks out loud, "Anna and Katherine can't. Damon can't. You were never planning on breaking the spell, were you?"

"I told you. I will protect my own." Sheila states, "Elena and Callie can get out. That's all that matters."

...

Anna steps towards Elena, shining her flashlight on her.

"You must have a taste for it." Anna chuckles, "You scream and shriek and even bother to escape, but then you just come right back to it."

Elena walks backwards and bumps into Pearl. Anna sees her mother and kneels down next to her, caressing her arm.

"Mother!" Anna exclaims as she looks back at Elena, "Your boyfriend did this, you know."

"His father did." Elena corrects as Anna stands up and faces her.

"And Jonathan Gilbert." Anna adds, "I made a choice a long time ago that it would be Gilbert blood that brought her back to life. I had Jeremy all ready to go but..."

Elena gasps and turns around, bolting from the room, but Anna vamp-runs in front of her, grabs her by the wrist, and bites down as she screams loudly.

...

In the ante-chamber, Stefan hears Elena's screams echo through the tomb. He rushes forward as Bonnie chases after him.

"Stefan!" She shouts as Sheila blocks her from entering the tomb, "You can't just leave him in there, Grams!"

"He made his choice." Sheila states.

"No. Here." She picks up the grimoire and looks desperately at her Grams, "Just show me what to do. I'll do it."

"We are not strong enough." Sheila explains, "Even if we were able to bring the seal down, there's no guarantee that we could get it back up again."

"You said it yourself, many things can fuel a witches power." Bonnie states, "Help me or I'll do it alone."

...

Anna pushes Elena down on the ground, across Pearl's lap, and holds her wrist up to her mouth. Elena struggles, but Pearl, smelling the blood, begins to drink.

"No, please don't!" Elena yells.

"I'm gonna get you out." Anna tells her mother as Stefan runs in.

"Let her go!" He shouts.

Stefan grabs Anna and pushes her aside.

"No!" Anna screams.

He grabs Elena and pulls her up, pushing her towards the exit.

"Go. Go. I'm right behind you." Stefan tells her as he blocks Anna from chasing down Elena.

"Anna." Pearl mutters.

Anna rushes to her mother's side, caressing her face in her hands and crying happily.

"Annabelle." Pearl says with tears in her eyes.

...

Bonnie and Sheila are looking through the grimoire when Elena exits the tomb.

"Elena," Bonnie exclaims as he runs over to hug her, "Stefan..."

"He's right behind me." Elena tells her.

Bonnie and Sheila look at the entrance to the tomb. Elena turns around and sees Stefan standing in the doorway. She walks up to him, worried.

"Stefan, what are you doing?" Elena asks.

"It's gonna be okay." Bonnie says soothingly, "We'll fix it."

"What is it?" Elena questions frantically.

"I can't..." Stefan sighs.

"Can't? Can't what?" Elena asks.

"The spell's still up." Bonnie explains, "We can't get them out yet."

"You went in there not knowing if you could come back out?" Elena questions as Stefan looks down, not answering. "Oh, my God."

"I heard you scream." Stefan says.

"Callie's still in there, with Damon," Elena remembers,"We have to get them out."

"Even if we're able to break through the seal, we won't be able to hold it for long." Shelia says.

Stefan look at Elena before going back into the tomb to find Damon and Callie.

...

Damon is still searching frantically the tomb for Katherine. Frustrated, he kicks the dirt on the floor as Callie stand behind him.

"She's not here." Damon says as Stefan arrives.

"Callie, are you okay?" he asks before looking at his brother.

"I'm fine." Callie replies, "But, Damon..."

"She's not here." Damon stats again, in shock.

"What?" Stefan asks as he steps forward.

Damon pulls out the bloodbag.

"She's not here!" He shouts as he throws the bloodbag at the wall.

The blood splatters across it as Damon looks at Stefan with anguish.

...

Sheila and Bonnie are reciting the spell to lift the seal as Elena circles around them. The torches flare up and she looks towards the tomb.

"I think it's working." Elena exclaims hopefully.

Suddenly Anna exits the tomb with Pearl, who is still weak.

"I just wanted my mother back." she explains, "Jeremy's fine. He's outside. I won't touch him."

Anna and Pearl leave as the torches begin to falter.

"Bonnie, keep going!" Sheila encourages, "They better hurry."

Elena runs over to the entrance of the tomb and looks inside.

"Stefan, they can't hold it much longer!" She yells.

The torches extinguish themselves. Bonnie looks faint and Sheila doesn't look much better as Elena runs back into the tomb.

"Damon, we need to get out of here." Stefan explains as he looks at his brother.

"It doesn't make sense." Damon says in shock, "They locked her inside."

"If we don't leave now, we're not getting out." Stefan adds as he looks over to Callie, "Go, get out!"

"I'm not leaving until you do." Callie replies.

"How could she not be in here?" Damon asks.

"It's not worth spending all of eternity down here." Callie says to him.

"She's not worth it!" Stefan yells.

"No!" Damon shouts and angrily pushes Stefan away.

Elena rushes into the room.

"Callie!" She shouts at she spots Damon, "Damon! Please."

Damon looks at her in his dazes shock as follows as she turns around and leads him out of the tomb, followed by Callie and Stefan.

...

Bonnie and Sheila are still chanting the spell to keep the seal down. Bonnie stops for a moment, gasping for air and keeling over.

"Oh my God. I can't!" Bonnie gasps.

"Yes, you can." Sheila eggs her on.

They continue chanting. Damon exits the tomb first, followed by Elena, Then Callie and Stefan. The door to the tomb closes and the torches die out. Elena walks over to Stefan and they embrace as he wraps his arms around her. Callie looks over to Damon who is staring obliviously at the wall.

...

At the party in the woods, Caroline is talking with a group of friends, she looks over at Matt, who is leaning against his truck and they smile at each other. Caroline walks over to him.

"Is this for real?" Matt asks as he looks at her, "You being all cool and honest and open?"

Caroline walks a step closer to him.

"Speech number three?" Caroline sighs, "I want this to work. And I'm scared that you're gonna change your mind and you're not gonna want it. I don't want to mess it up."

"I don't want to mess it up either." Matt adds as they stare at each other and kiss lightly.

...

Stefan and Elena exit the tomb and run over to Jeremy, who is waking up.

"He's okay." Stefan sighs as he checks him.

Elena and Stefan kneel down next to Jeremy, who groans. Callie comes running over.

"He's all right." Stefan says.

Damon exits the tomb, looking completely miserable. Callie gets up and walks towards him. She wraps his arms around him and places her head on his shoulder.

"I'm sorry." She says as he lets her hug him tightly.

...

Back at Sheila's house, Bonnie helps her tired Grams lay down in bed for some rest.

"Hey, let me help you." Bonnie says.

"Oh, I'm fine." Grams replies, "You don't need to coddle me, baby."

"It was a big spell, Grams." Bonnie states, "I could tell it took a lot out of you."

"I'll be fine." Sheila sighs.

...

Finally at home, Elena carries a glass of water and an Aspirin into Jeremy's room and hands it to him. Callie is sitting on his bed talking to him.

"How's your head?" Elena asks.

"Uh- it's alright. I just... I wish I knew how I passed out." Jeremy sighs, "I didn't drink that much, I swear."

"And you don't remember anything?" Callie questions.

"The whole things pretty cloudy." Jeremy says, "I just... I know how this looks. I'm - I'm sorry."

"No, Jeremy, don't be sorry." Elena replies, "You didn't do anything, okay?"

"Yeah, okay." he nods.

"I've got to head on over to Bonnie's for a little bit, but is there anything that you need?" Elena explains.

"No, I'm just... I'm gonna crash." Jeremy answers as Callie stands up.

"Okay, well, Jenna and Callie here and I'll be back soon." Elena adds before she leaves.

"I'll be in my room if you need me kiddo." Callie tell him as she exits as well.

Jeremy gets up from his bed and goes to his computer. He googles the word "Vampire."

...

Pearl and Anna go back to the motel room. Anna turns on the light and gets a shock when she sees Damon sitting in a chair in the corner of the room.

"You knew Katherine wasn't in there." Damon states.

"You wouldn't have helped me." Anna explains.

Damon vamp-runs at Pearl and grabs her by the throat.

"No! No!" Anna screams.

"Why do you get a happy ending?" Damon asks angrily as she rushes towards him.

"Damon, please!" Anna begs, "You wouldn't have helped me, you know you wouldn't have!"

He grabs a hold of her, restricting her movement.

"Why do you get it and I don't?" He asks savagely.

"The guard. The one at the church. The one who locked us in." Pearl speaks up, "She promised to turn him. He was obsessed with her. She had him under her spell, like everybody else. He let her go."

Damon releases Anna and looks at Pearl. Anna wraps her arms around Pearl and looks up at Damon.

"Last I saw her was Chicago. 1983." Anna tells him, "She knew where you were Damon. She didn't care."

Damon steps back, utterly hurt by this new piece of information.

"Sorry." Anna sighs as she embraces her mother.

Damon leaves the motel room.

...

Elena is at Sheila's house, talking on the phone with Stefan, who is at the Salvatore house.

"I just got to Bonnie's." Elena explains.

"Everything alright?" Stefan asks, "Because if you need me..."

"I'll be okay." Elena replies, "But...you can come if you want."

"I'll be there soon." Stefan smiles, "I'll just check on Damon."

"Yeah, of course." Elena answers.

...

At the Salvatore Boarding House, Stefan walks into the parlor where Damon is sitting down, staring blankly at the fire. Stefan sits down next to him and sit together in silence.

There's a small knock at the door, as Stefan gets up to answer it.

Callie is standing on the front porch looking at him.

"Hi, umm sorry to just turn up like this..." Callie says.

"It's okay." Stefan nods as he opens the door for her, "Come in."

Callie steps inside and continues.

"I just came to see how Damon is doing." She explains, "How is he?"

"See for yourself." Stefan says as they walk into the living room.

Where Damon is still seated in front of the fire. Callie looks at him before nodding to Stefan, who quietly backs away as she walks over to him.

"Damon?" Callie asks as she sits down next to him.

He says nothing but continues to stare aimlessly into the fire.

"Damon, I'm sorry." Callie says as she looks into his eyes, "I'm so sorry."

She leans over and holds his hand tightly. He slowly looks down at the gesture before finally looking up at her.

"I'm not going to tell you it's going to be okay because I can't promise that." Callie tells him, "But I'm so sorry for what she did to you. You don't deserve it."

Damon's eyes fill up with tears as he stares at her.

"Yes," he replies, "Yes I do."

Callie leans forward and hugs him tightly as he wraps his arms around her. She gently strokes his hair as he rests his head on her shoulder. He lifts his head up and smells the sweet smell from her neck as his eyes light up. He slowly moves his nose around to hers and lightly touches his lips to hers.

"Damon, I..." Callie exclaims as he brings his finger up to her mouth to hush her.

"Don't." he replies as he leans in and kisses her deeply, pressing his lips to hers as he grabs her.

She tries to fight back, but as his kisses grow more passionate she gives in and starts kissing him back. She lets go of all the feelings she had been denying for so long and grabs his head as he winds his tongue into her mouth and slightly groans.

Damon leans over her as he takes his shirt off and lifts her up so she's sitting on his lap. Callie smiles as he rips her top off easily and starts to kiss her on her chest, down over each breast, as far as he can go.

He quickly undoes his pants and runs his hand up Callie's inner thigh, hearing her moan as he touches her lightly. Then he gently moves her underwear to the side as he slips himself inside of her, feeling her hands shake a little.

He lowers his head into her neck as they slowly start to move together, his eyes start to turn darker as the veins around them blacken and his fangs protrude. Damon closes his eyes as he tries to hide it from her, but Callie lifts his head up to hers with her hands and looks his in the eyes.

"It's okay," She sighs as she wraps her arms around him to bring him into her.

Damon lifts his head up and smells her neck as he once again closes his eyes and moves with her. Then slowly and gently he begins to get faster, more aggressive as she moans in pleasure.

Until all of a sudden he can't hold it in anymore, he pulls his head back and bares his fangs as he sinks them down into Callie's neck and sucks deeply. The taste overwhelms him as the sweet liquid runs down his throat and lights the fire back into his eyes.

...

Bonnie enters Gram's room carrying a cup of tea for her

"Here you go, Grams." she says as she places the tea on the nightstand and pulls the covers up over Sheila.

She looks down at her Grams and gets the feeling that something is wrong.

"Grams?" Bonnie asks as she sits down on the bed and starts to shake Sheila.

"Grams! Grams, wake up! Grams! Grams!" Bonnie starts sobbing as she cries out for Elena.

Elena dashes into the room, looking bewildered.

"Help! Wake up! She's not breathing!" Bonnie exclaims, "She's just not breathing! Please, wake up!"

Elena runs out of the room and grabs the phone, dialing emergency services as Bonnie gets up as well.

"I'm gonna fix it! It's okay, I can fix this!" Bonnie says determinedly.

" Yes, I need an ambulance to Oak Street." Elena speaks into the phone. "It's an emergency, quick."

Bonnie grabs the grimoire and flips through the pages, trying to find a spell to bring her Grams back. Elena walks back into the room and gently grabs Bonnie's shoulders.

"Bonnie... Bonnie." She sighs.

"No! No! I can fix it!" Bonnie shouts, "Grams, I can fix this!"

"Bonnie!" Elena kneels down beside her, "Bonnie."

She continues to sob as Elena wraps her arms around Bonnie, trying to comfort her.

...

Down in the tomb, the blood bag that Damon threw drips down from the wall. A vampire sits below the pool of blood on the wall and it drips down towards him. The vampire gets up, opens the door of the tomb, and is able to walk out. He looks up at the ceiling, finally free.
