Bo's POV
Black. Then blinding white.
I couldn't remember at which point I'd lost consciousness, but I knew that I had. I knew I was with Tamsin and I knew she'd be worried sick. What I didn't know was how long I'd been out.
My body began to wake up. A wiggle of my toes, which felt like they hadn't been moved in days, the flexing of my legs and abdomen, up to my chest and arms as I shook off what felt like years of sleep. Finally, my eyes.
They fluttered open to the soft shimmer of a high canopy. Different from what I thought I'd wake up to. But the smell of the air. It was familiar. Like Tamsin.
Like home.
Propping myself on my elbows, I took it all in. Exactly as it was before. The bright, natural light that streamed in from the balcony, contrasting against the darker shades of the room. The calming silence so apparent, even against the low hum of a television nearby. The feel of Tamsin's sheets, soft and flush against my skin.
But it wasn't her.
She was nowhere to be found... And I had to find her.
Swinging my legs off of the cotton top, I walked towards the door of the room. Before anything else, I stopped to look at myself in the huge vanity mirror to the right. I wore nothing but a white tank top and a pair of shorts I didn't recognize. My hair was not tousled, to my surprise, and ran naturally against my shoulders.
Finally, I walked towards the door and turned the knob. As soon as it swung open, I was pulled into the strongest embrace. It was familiar, but surprisingly warm and over almost as soon as it came.
"Damn it, Bo. A little while with Tammers and you go all M.I.A in the cranial space?" Kenzi said, poking a finger to her temple. "I was worried sick when Tam's called."
"Kenz, it's not like I meant to black out." I sighed. "Speaking of, where is Tamsin?"
"She's out!" Kenzi said in a frenzy. "Uh, Y'know... Running errands. Valkyrie's gotta eat too."
Even as Fae, Kenzi still hadn't been much of a good liar. We'd have to work on that, but I decided to drop the subject. I did wonder where Tamsin was that Kenzi felt she had to keep secret... I wanted to see her. To hold her. To make up for lost time. Regaining my memory could have come at a better time.
"Bo-Bo?" Kenzi said waving a hand in front of my face and snapping me out of my thoughts. "Lauren is waiting to run tests."
"Lauren..." I remembered our last encounter and it wasn't one that should've happened. I suddenly felt sick to my stomach, knowing I would have to come clean with Tamsin soon enough.
"She's set up in the living room with that brain thingy." Kenzi smiled softly as she pulled me outside.
Dyson sat quietly on the couch watching the local news broadcast intently, while Lauren sat at the island of Tamsin's kitchen. Kenzi had left me on my own as she snuck up on Dyson playfully. It was useless, as the two could never sneak up on each other successfully and so they ended up in a tangle of limbs as Kenzi was tickled relentlessly.
"Good morning, Bo." Lauren said, grabbing my attention. Her intentions seemed to be strictly professional as she gestured to the seat next to her.
"Lauren." I replied curtly. "About last time, I-"
"You weren't yourself... It's perfectly understandable." The doctor smiled. "Now, if you'd put this on. Hopefully, for the last time."
I did nothing but smile and take the portable machine, placing it on my head. It was lighter and seemingly more advanced than the previous model. I didn't feel like such a retard, for one.
"Hm..." Lauren murmured lowly as she swiped through the scans of my brain.
"Good or bad hm?" Kenzi perked up.
Lauren was silent for a moment as Dyson and Kenzi crowded up to us.
"Everything seems to be in order, Bo. Your scans show normal levels in all parts of your brain..." She said finally. "I take it you remember?"
"I don't know how I could forget an entire person, but yes. How long was I out?"
"From what Tamsin said, about 16 hours." Lauren answered.
"We need to get to the bottom of this. It was no coincidence." Dyson said angrily.
"We have no leads, Dyson. It's not that simple." Lauren replied. "For all we know, these... blackouts can occur at any moment, without warning."
"Then we use Tamsin. Get her to take us to Odin." Dyson growled back. "I'm itching for a fight."
"Tams would never go for it. That's the last place she wants to be." Kenzi said lowly, attempting to calm Dyson.
"I agree with Kenz... I don't want to put Tamsin through that. She has enough on her plate... With me, I mean." I said reluctantly.
"Don't ever think, for a second, that you're not worth everything to her." Kenzi said, pulling away from Dyson and wrapping me up in a hug. "Tamsin-"
"Speak of the devil." Dyson mumbled, interrupting Kenzi's sentence.
The door to the apartment opened softly, revealing the woman of conversation. Her hair was strung up in a loose bun, fly-aways framing her face beautifully. The same furrow of her brow present, as always, watching the floor as she entered. A fitted black leather jacket framed her shoulders, overlapping the dark grey t-shirt she wore underneath. Her long legs were covered by white jeans, finished with black combat boots. Setting down the duffle bag she'd been carrying, the Valkyrie finally looked up.
She looked around for a moment, her expression unchanging. Until she saw me. Her expression became more relaxed, but still guarded, as she took a seat on the other side of the island.
"Ahem, I should get going then." Lauren smiled softly, packing her things and exiting. "Have a good day everyone."
Everyone acknowledged Lauren's departure, but soon, an awkward silence had filled the room. Tamsin still hadn't given me more than a look as she sat there, twiddling her thumbs. It wasn't like her. Kenzi and Dyson had retired to the couch silently.
Just then, Tamsin pulled out of her seat, choosing to enter her bedroom. Her hand paused on the doorknob as she turned to look my way.
"You coming?" She said simply.
Watching as she entered, Kenzi and Dyson turned to look at me. Teasing expressions riddled their faces as they tried to stifle their laughter.
"Shut up." I warned.
I couldn't help but muster a small smile as I got up and followed after Tamsin. This was a start.
A/N: I hope you guys like this chapter. It was difficult for me to get started, hence the long delay in updating this fic. I hope to update more frequently. If you haven't seen it already, How to Save A Life was also updated. The next chapter should be out soon for that fic, as well as this one.
Please read and review, if you want. It's greatly appreciated :)
