"Congrats," Luke told them on their little bundle of joy that would grace them in a short but long few months. "Can you guys even raise a child right now? Between what you make at the bookstore, buying a house and Rory out of work, it seems like things are going to be a bit tough."
"Things are going to be tough, there is no escaping that. But we can't abandon our child because of it. I won't be Jimmy and I won't let Rory be like Liz. We're gonna do right by our child," Jess explained going straight on the defense. He was better than that. He got himself here and he would do what he had to do. Being the very best father, was just that.
"I've had an excellent teacher on motherhood over the years. I do have a job. I get to work from home and everything. As long as we have love, we can make it through this. Nothing worth having in life comes easy. We'll have to work at this, there is no escaping it. I'm ready for this next part of our lives," Rory explained, slipping her arm around Jess. He returned the gesture, slipping his arm around her.
"Life is nothing without a few sacrifices along the way." Luke smiled looking at the couple that sat in front of him. He believed that they could make it work. They were determined not to screw this up. They had it in them to be the very best parents possible.
"If you guys need anything, I'm only ever a phone call away. I'm happy for you guys. This is a blessing that happened because it's meant to be."
"It was a mistake, but a wonderful at that," Jess smiled, kissing his wife's temple. Rory melted into his embrace.
"Congrats again, work calls," he informed them getting up.
"What do you wanna do?" Jess asked, once Luke was gone.
"I feel like walking around the town. You don't have to come," Rory quickly told him.
"Yeah, because I have so many friends around here," he replied with sarcasm. Rory giggled kissing him.
"Books, me and Luke. How friendly of you," Rory smirked.
"Hey now, I had you, what more did I need?" He asked getting up. He pulled Rory to him. "A walk around this experiment of a town, sounds alright to me." Rory giggled kissing him.
They walked downstairs from Luke's apartment holding hands. Rory smiled at Luke as they walked out into the warm sun. Silence draping over them on the nice day outside.
"You wanna go talk to Lane?" Jess asked seeing Lane sitting in the middle of town square a stroller next to her.
"Actually I do," Rory told him, kissing his cheek. "I'll find you when I'm done." Jess nodded and walked off. Rory rushed across the street, taking the open spot next to Lane. "Hey!" Rory exclaimed getting Lane's attention.
"Rory, Hey," Lane said excitedly, hugging her friend. "I didn't know you were in town."
"We came up to tell Luke some news."
"Oh, yeah?" Lane asked eying her friend up.
"Yeah," Rory responded. She could see that Lane was waiting for more information. "Oh, alright. I'm pregnant," Rory squealed. Lane's face turned white for a brief second before she started to squeal, hugging her best friend to her.
"OMG!" Lane exclaimed. "That's incredible, Rory." Rory smiled pulling away from her friend.
"Thanks. How are the these two? Zach?"
"Zach is good, miss him like crazy, but that's to be expected. Being on tour with him, got to be a bit much with the twins. Yet, I was expecting that as well."
"That happens, especially when you have twins," Rory commented. Lane nodded her head in understanding.
"I hate to cut this short, but I need to get them home and feed them."
"Go on," Rory told her. They shared one last hug before Lane left. Rory sighed looking around. She headed off in search for Jess. She could see that he had never went back to Luke's. Other then the bookstore there was only one other place left for him to be.
"You're really pregnant with his child?" Dean asked walking up from behind Rory. She nodded.
"Yep. Don't start in Dean. You need to remember you left me the last time, because you didn't think we would work. The life my grandparents live, isn't the one I live. You knew that. But you walked away. Not me. I didn't have feelings for anyone else," Rory told him, coming to a complete stop. "But in the end you were right. We wouldn't have worked out. Lindsay may not have been the one for you, but she's out there."
"We could still be happy together, Rory." She shook her head.
"You don't get to be hung up on me, Dean. You walked away. I couldn't be happy with you, I'm happier than I've ever been with Jess. He makes me whole. Bye, Dean." Rory walked away finally getting the closure on her past with Dean.
"I remember the first time I was on this bridge with you. That was better than the second time though. God I was such a mess. I was tired, but ya know I wasn't all that sad when he ended things. It hurt, but I knew it was coming."
"Your hoodlum of a prince was there," he smirked. "Of course after I ended things with Shane."
"Of course," she replied rolling her eyes. "She's not gonna like the idea we're still together or that I'm having your child. You don't have to come."
"That's where you're wrong. I do have to come. I can't give her another reason to hate me. You need me there, Rory." She gave him a smile, scooting closer to him.
At one point coming to her grandparents house filled her with joy. Now it filled her with anxiety and stress. She did still enjoy seeing her grandparents. She missed them once they were no longer apart of her life. Taking back Friday nights wasn't hard, since she had been on the road.
"When we walk out, we will be fine. Try not to stress too much," Jess warned kissing her temple.
"I can only try," she whispered, ringing the doorbell.
"Rory!" Richard smiled, pulling his granddaughter in for a long over due hug. "Jess," he smiled shaking his hand. "Do come in. We weren't expecting you."
"I know, we need to tell you guys something. Is Grandma home?" Rory asked.
"Yes she is," Richard told her walking to the living room.
"Rory?" Emily asked surprised wrote all over face. The shock wore off seeing Jess standing next to her. "Do sit down. Drinks?" She asked.
"I'm fine, Jess?" Rory asked. He shook his head.
"I'm fine as well."
"You said you had something to tell us. What's going on?" Richard asked sitting down next to his own wife. Rory took Jess' hand in her own. She wished she had now took up that offer for something to drink, for her now dry mouth.
"Pregnant, we're having a baby," Rory told them, her nervous playing a game of Jacks in her stomach.
"Pregnant?" Emily asked getting up. She barely noticed her granddaughter nodding. Now she had to suck up the dislike for the hooligan she was married to. She wanted to know her great-grandchild. "What about a house? A job?" She asked making herself a strong drink.
"We have a house, I have a job, Jess has a job," Rory explained.
"Things are going to be tough, but together we can get through this. I love your granddaughter, I already love the child we created. I'm not leaving her or my child. We're in this together," Jess spoke.
"Congratulations, Rory. It's not ideal, but you have never disappointed me. You'll be an amazing mother." Rory smiled at her grandfather's words.
"Won't you stay for dinner?" Emily asked, sucking up all the hate and dislike she had at the current situation. Wanting Rory to be with Logan was now finally over.
"We can't, we have dinner plans with Liz and TJ," Rory told them. Jess looked at her funny.
"We do?" He asked. Rory gave him a look. "We do. And we're late as it is. Sorry, we'll take a rain check." Rory hugged them and went to the car with Jess. "We don't really, do we?" He asked pulling away from the Gilmore house. Liz didn't say anything to him when he into her earlier in the day and told her the news. She was overly excited, like she is on most things.
"Nope, how you tell Liz, is up to you." He nodded.
"I've already told her, though. She's beyond happy." Rory smiled, placing a hand on his knee. Her right hand rested on her stomach. He'd told her when he had seen her. He wasn't going to make a big deal about telling her. She was never much of a mother to him. It wasn't as if they were running out to Boston to tell Christopher their news either. The people who needed to know, had been told. The rest could figure it out.
