After heading out of the pub, Ice and I simply looked at each other. "So. Where to?"
"Hell if I know," I said, "I might be older than you are but that doesn't mean I know everything."
With a light sigh, Ice crouched on the ground, picked up a stick, and started doodling in the gravel. "Y'know..." He started, "It's kinda funny how this all ended up, don't you think? I mean, we all have our own personal problems, getting angry at each other even though we hadn't told each other our feelings... You say you don't care about him, but you care about me so you care about him. Do I even make sense?"
I shook my head with a half-smile. "Yes and no," I replied. "but mostly no. I get where you're coming from, but honestly all I really care about is you and your safety. You're my number one priority, you know that?"
"W-what do you mean?" he stuttered, a bit surprised.
"I mean," I said, crouching down next to him, taking his stick, and using it to draw, "that I would help Dan in a flash if he needed – but if he and you needed help at the same time, I would always help you first no matter what the circumstances were. If he needed help putting on a sock while you needed help dealing with a mid-life crisis... I'd help you first even if it seems more difficult."
"But why? You could get the sock over with then help me?"
"You're the most important person in my life. Even if I wasn't in love with you. I feel a pretty special connection. Maybe it's the entire 'brother' thing, I don't know."
Ice chuckled, causing him to fall rear-first on the ground, his legs outstretched. "You're so ridiculous, you know that?"
With a smile, I replied, "but I'm your ridiculous brother."
That made him laugh even harder to the point his eyes started shining with tears. "You're so stupid, Norway," he said, unable to contain his laughter. His innocent smile on his face made me feel a thousand times better, even if things weren't going the way we wanted them to. The warmth radiating from him when he's happy was one of the things that drew me to him in the first place.
And until next time, HASTA LA PASTA~
