Chapter thirteen
The grassy fields…
"Did it work?" Sonic asked with a hopeful look and tone.
"Why don't you all turn around and see." Mr Tailor smiled as he pointed behind everyone.
They did and gasped as Shadow had appeared no more than ten feet away and not looking very happy, in fact he was growling with his teeth on show. He slowly walked forward never breaking eye contact with the group in front of him.
"Shadow, it's alright you are home now." Sonic called out with slight concern as everyone apart from him took steps backwards, himself walking forwards a little.
Shadow stopped right in front of Sonic and locked eyes with him. Everyone was getting highly concerned as they silently watched the two stare at one another. Shadow caught a glimpse of a dozen demons and five strong guards appear and smirked sinisterly. With one hand he grabbed Sonics chin then lend his mouth towards Sonics ear.
"You have no idea of the hell my father has put me through…the amount of blood that left my body, all the lashes, cuts and gashes I have made to suffer. Do you know what the worst part was…the thought of never seeing you again my love." Shadow whispered softly.
"I'm so sorry you had to go through all of that babe, we tried to get to you as quickly as possible but the ritual required a full moon." Sonic whispered back with a soft smile, feeling so happy to hear Shadows voice again.
"Go back to the others and announce that there is going to be a little war, for my father has sent twelve demons and five large guards. They are standing in the shadows of this area, I do believe you all have pissed my father off royally…respect to you all for that. Meanwhile I have something that I have to do." Shadow whispered then let go of Sonics chin, smiling at him as Sonic turned around and walked back to relate what was said.
Shadow turned around and walked towards the middle of the field. He closed his eyes and extended his wings to take flight. He lifted himself a few meters above the ground then closed his eyes as a dark red aura surrounded his body. As soon as Sonic had told everyone what Shadow has said the archangels arrived, all standing in a line in front of where the ritual took place. The demons and guards came out of hiding and charged at the archangels, who raised their swords up high and charged also.
"What is Shadow doing?" Sonic asked as he watched his boyfriend in the air surrounded in a sphere of red light.
"His purpose maybe?" Mr Tailor shrugged as he didn't know.
"No he's not doing that…we are all still alive. He's descending look." Nancy said then pointed as Shadow hit the ground and the aura slowly faded away.
Shadow slowly turned around and smirked at the battle on the field. He raised both hands and concentrated on the large guards. He grabbed them in an invisible hold and raised them all up into the sky. Chuckling to himself he dropped his arms and vanished, reappearing beside Sonic and the others.
"You all have to watch this." Shadow said as he pointed up towards the suspended creatures then clicked his fingers.
One by one the guards exploded like a bomb. Blood and body parts scattered all around and on those who were fighting but it never distracted them from the battle. Shadow sinisterly laughed as he wrapped an arm around Sonics shoulders and pulled him close.
"That should even things out further…I suppose you are wondering what I was doing in the air…I will tell you, I made the demons weak by taking their energy. I'm such a badass sometimes." Shadow explained as he watched the demons slowly lose against the archangels.
"Yeah but you're my badass." Sonic lightly chuckled as he lent his head on Shadows shoulder happily.
"I don't understand, I saw you in hell this morning…how are you not broken and obedient?" Alfred asked with a puzzled expression.
"I was very obedient wasn't I but I was never broken. I'm very patient when I have to be and I just played my fathers game. I knew of the ritual and I knew you all will perform it so I just had to sit and wait…that part of your book Mr Tailor, does not need changing." Shadow softly explained as he squeezed Sonic lightly.
"But how did you know we would have everything for it?" Mr Tailor asked with a slightly confused look.
"I knew mum would have my DNA in the baby book she did, also I knew about the half mark on Sonic. Something my father didn't know for once and the rest is easy to come by. Thank you all for getting me away from my father and out of hell." Shadow replied with a smile.
"Yeah about that mark, you do know if we don't well mate within two months of it appearing then I'll forget about ya, right?" Sonic said as he glanced over at his boyfriend.
"No, I didn't know that…really though, if we don't have sex then you will forget about me?" Shadow frowned unhappily at this new information.
"That's what Mr Tailor said so that means we have about a month." Sonic replied as he pointed a thumb at his teacher.
"I'll book you both a hotel room, there's one about half a mile away from here." Bernadette smirked as she winked at the two.
"Mum…actually not a bad idea, will save on the embarrassments of the morning at home." Sonic grinned lightly.
"I need you all to return home now…there is something I need to do." Shadow suddenly announced in a very serious manner as he caught a sight of Jazz.
"What might that be?" Alfred casually asked with little suspicion in his eyes.
"Jazz is observing the fight the archangels are winning in the distance…I'm going to have a little chat with him." Shadow calmly replied then vanished.
Shadow reappeared beside Jazz with crossed arms, both looking out towards the fight the demons were losing and Shadow mentally sighed as he saw those he was just with leave. They both turned to face each other and neither looking happy.
"Your father is furious and when he finds out you have disobeyed him yet again, he is going to be out for blood." Jazz narrowed his eyes in hate as he spoke.
"Oh really and who says I'm disobeying him? What I'm about to do to you, you will never remember this moment." Shadow sinisterly smirked then roughly grabbed a hold of Jazz's head with both hands.
"Get off me!" Jazz cried out as he tried to break free.
Shadow chuckled deviously and sent bolts of electricity through Jazz's head. Jazz screamed out in pain as blood started to trickle out of his ears, nose and mouth. His body jerked and his eyes rolled to the back of his head. Shadow spoke in demon to sent Jazz back into hell and as soon as he let go, Jazz vanished as he was falling to the ground unconscious. Shadow stood there until the last demon was sent back to hell then he approached the archangels, stopping near them all.
"Thank you for your assistance, it was much appreciated." Shadow called out as he bowed his head then lifted it up with a smile on his muzzle.
"Please don't give us a reason to come down here and fight against you Shadow." One said then they all vanished back home.
"Believe me I never plan to destroy this world…bye then." Shadow called out with a light chuckle and waved up in the skies above.
Shadow rolled his eyes and shook his head muttering the word 'angels' then teleported away. He appeared by his high school and looked at it with a raised brow.
"What happened to the school?" Shadow muttered as he tilted his head in question.
"Blake burned it down but the construction wont be finished for another five months or so. The board of education have organised home schooling for all students and you mister are way behind on your work…it's good to have you back Shadow." The headmaster smirked at Shadow, appearing beside him.
"Wait a minute...I knew there was something off about you and now I know what. First I find out the deputy head is an angel now the headmaster is an archangel, does that mean the cooks are cherubs?" Shadow smirked playfully as he joked a little.
"Actually they are." The headmaster replied as his smirk grew a little.
"Really?" Shadow asked with a raised brow and looking a little shocked.
"No, they are just mortals who happen to cook well." The headmaster laughed a little loudly as he shook his head.
"Right…nice one. It's good to witness an angel with a sense of humour." Shadow teased lightly then added in a serious tone, "will you and Miss Sharps be returning to heaven now?"
"No, we are to stay here to keep an eye on things. Your father wont give up on you that easily and even if you can out match him, you have no desire to cause him physical harm. It's not your fault, he made you so you will never raise a hand on him but that also doesn't mean you are incapable of doing so." The headmaster explained with a sincere tone.
"That would explain a whole lot…so any chance I could maybe skip the missed lessons and homework?" Shadow asked with a cheeky grin.
"Let me think…no. You better go back home and get cracking. Oh and no cheating young man, I will know if you do." The headmaster chuckled at Shadows disappointed look and crossed arms then vanished after his sentence.
"So not fair, I have a month of work to catch up on." Shadow grumbled unhappily then uncrossed his arms and started to walk down the street muttering to himself in demon language.
"There he is." Amy called from her front door as she caught sight of Shadow walking in the distance then added, "he doesn't look very happy."
Everyone came rushing outside and stood in the driveway waiting for Shadow to come over. Shadow finally walked over to them with a deep frown and unhappy eyes.
"Shads what's the matter?" Sonic asked with concern in his tone.
"What's the matter? I have a whole month of school work to catch up on, that's what the matter is." Shadow groaned in annoyance and crossed arms.
"Oh and here we thought something serious was wrong." Rouge rolled her eyes with a playful grin.
"That is serious. I come back from being tortured, beaten and my arms half sawn off only to find I have a tone and a half of school work and I'm not even allowed to cheat, unfair." Shadow complained with a grumpy tone.
"You almost had your arms sawn off…damn, bet that hurt." Knuckles said with disbelief as he looked at Shadows arms.
"Well dur, of course it would have." Rouge sighed with a shake of her head.
"It's getting late and I think we all have had enough excitement for one night, we should all get to bed since its almost two o'clock." Bernadette smiled as she spoke softly to the teens.
"Yes so off you lot go, I'm sure Shadow will be round tomorrow morning. Wont you Shadow?" Jules added with a grin at Shadow.
"Mum, would that be ok?" Shadow looked to Nancy with a pleading smile.
"Yes…but I also want you to make a start on your school work." Nancy nodded with a smile.
"Fine, I'll do it tonight…there is no way I'll be sleeping peacefully for a while anyway." Shadow shrugged as he spoke.
They all parted their ways, Mr Tailor and Miss Sharps drove off in their cars back home, Alfred vanished back to heaven and the others went back inside. Shadow and Nancy vanished and appeared in their home, in the kitchen.
"Do you want a drink Shadow?" Nancy asked with a smile.
"No thanks I'll just start with this damn school work…on the off chance I know it already can I just cheat a little?" Shadow replied with a smile then asked with a pleading look in his eye.
"No cheating Shadow, you will do your work like everyone else." Nancy firmly said with crossed arms and a serious tone.
"But it's going to take forever…oh fine then." Shadow complained then gave in as Nancy gave him an unhappy look and pose.
"I put your school work on your desk…relax there's not that much to do." Nancy grinned a little.
Shadow just sighed then walked out of the kitchen and up the stairs when he got there. Nancy switched the lights off and was now following Shadow up the stairs. They both said a 'good night' then walked into their rooms.
"Not much mum says." Shadow groaned as he caught sight of the two tall piles of books and assignment sheets on his desk.
Shaking his head he took a seat up his desk and got cracking…
