Momiji swiveled herself around on the stool. She looked at Anna, sighed and then swiveled around in the other direction. She was extremely bored and had been waiting for near to three hours. She had attempted to start up conversation, but Anna had ignored her and continued working on the potion without sparing Momiji a glance.

Momiji looked up at a tall shelf in front of her and noticed a necklace hanging from a peg. It was familiar, a silver crescent moon flipped upside down, between the two crescent points was a dark ruby. She glanced at Anna, who was occupied, then she tentatively reached out to touch the object.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you."

Momiji's hand stilled and she tensed. "Sorry," she said turning around. "I was just-"

"I know what you were trying to do," Anna went to stand next to Momiji. "It is the last talisman of a very powerful witch. She saved her coven from a massacre many years ago, and led her sisters into an age of enlightenment and prosperity."

"What happened to her?"

"The same thing that happens to all those who bring about change. She was assassinated," Anna turned her back to Momiji and returned to the potion she had been mixing. "You are thinking of your own family now."

Momiji sauntered over to her and leaned on the table, "I'm thinking that this spell you've given me is going to need a lot more power than I had originally anticipated."

"True, and even with all your new abilities you may not have to power to do the spell."

Momiji stared down into the swirling potion.

Anna looked up at her, "You sense it just as I do. The triumvirate that grew between the three of you, ever since your return it's been growing again. But now it's compromised." Anna caught Momiji's eye briefly before the younger woman again looked away. "Hermione, her mind is breaking down, the Veil is weakening and she's losing her sanity as well as her foothold in this world."

Momiji turned away from Anna, "She's losing it. Just like Kusanagi did."

"Yes and no. The weakening of the Veil was brought on by your resurrection, but it has been exasperated by the witch which has made Hermione's mind decay quicker."

"What's Lenobia's plan? What's the end game?"

Anna shrugged, "We do not know all Momiji only what we are shown." She poured the potion into a vial, capped it, and then put it in a bag. She held the bag up to Momiji "This has everything you need, white oak ash, the potion, and the spell. I assume that once you get to Van's body you'll be able to do what's required." Momiji nodded, Anna handed her the bag.

"What is all of this going to cost me?"

Anna smiled gently, "Nothing that you could ever afford, but I'm not doing this for you."

Momiji took the small bag and zipped it into her backpack. "Remember something Momiji." Anna took her arm and led Momiji out of the back room to the front of the shop. "Your path is not always clear and defined. Sometimes redemption isn't always what we think it is, and nothing happens unless it's supposed to happen."

They stopped in the middle of the shop and several clocks on the walls chimed the hour. Anna looked up at them then back to Momiji. "You'll need to hurry the opportunity that Louis has given you is running short on time. You only have a few more hours to get Van's soul and return it to his body before the witch discovers your intentions."

"I can't get back to California in a few hours! It's not possible!"

Anna shushed her, "Have a little faith, and be careful from here on out my dear. The place where you are going, well let's just say you won't be around friends."

"Even so I can't drive back to California-"

Anna chuckled, "My dear girl who said anything about driving. Didn't your father teach you anything?"

Momiji looked at her confused, "What do you…"

"Take a deep breath."

Momiji was about to open her mouth to question Anna when the other woman reached out and touched her forehead. There was a flash of bright light and she suddenly felt as if she were free falling. Her stomach turned over and over, it became extremely hard to breath, and her body began to go numb. She gasped for air trying to inhale, but it was as if her lungs were being squeezed by an invisible hand.

Suddenly Momiji crashed onto solid ground and blacked out.

Serena stared at Michelle Roderick as the girl struggled to try and escape the bindings Rin had placed on her arms and legs. "Is this really necessary?" Serena asked as Rin re-entered the room.

"Do you want me to get inside her head or not?"

"You know that answer."

Rin moved behind Michelle, who was still struggling against the bindings and opened a small red vial. "Well then I need her to cooperate."

"I'm not going to do anything to help you damn traitor bitch! Where is Amara!" Michelle spat.

"Don't worry, she's safe," Serena said.

Michelle glared, "I don't believe you! What have you done with her! I demand to see her!"

Rin reached around and gagged Michelle with a cloth. "If you continue to squawk while I am performing the ritual I could do something wrong and end up scrambling your brain. So unless you want to end up as a fried egg I suggest you stop."

Michelle glared at Rin, she mumbled something and then went still.

"Good, now I understand how this must feel to you-"Michelle began to yell indiscernible things at her. "But I you must understand this if for your best interest." Again Michelle tried to yell at Rin.

"Honestly I say we just keep her like this forever." Fei's voice came from behind Serena. Rin looked up at him as he snacked on a bag of chips. "She's much more agreeable when she can't talk."

Michelle glared at him and muttered.

"Sorry can't hear you, can you speak up!" he taunted putting his hand to his ear.

Michelle began yelling muffled obscenities at him and struggling against the bindings.

"Stop it Fei, Rin needs to prepare her," said Serena.

"Whatever, I still stand by the fact that this won't work. No matter how well trained you are Master couldn't have taught you how to get into a Roderick's mind."

"Have a little faith in your sister." Serena watched as Rin poured oil on Michelle's head. When the vial was empty Rin massaged the oil into Michelle's head. Rin's eyes were closed and every few seconds she would mutter something in a foreign tongue.

Then Rin and Michelle simultaneously went rigid and silent.

Serena waited, she looked at Fei, who shrugged his shoulders. "Rin?" The brunette made no indication that she had heard Serena at all. "Rin?" Serena took a hesitant step towards the two women.

"It'll be soon, when the moon reaches its climax." Serena jumped at Rin's voice.

"I thought you had already started," Serena said.

Rin opened her eyes and shook her head, "No, it must be at the celestial climax."

"I'd like to reach a climax," muttered Fei. Serena saw Rin throw him a dirty look.

"It'll be time soon. About another forty minutes." Rin took her hands away from Michelle's skull. Michelle's head slumped forward, her eyes closed and her body limp. "The oil will have seeped into her system by them."

Serena put her hand to her nose, she could smell strong herbs. "What is that?"

"It's a mixture to numb the neck and shoulders. It takes the tension out of her body and puts her to sleep so that I'll only be fighting the subconscious when I enter her mind. It should make breaking down the initial walls less of a challenge."

"So when did Sophia teach you this?"

"She didn't, Yoshiki was the one who taught me." Rin turned around wiped off her hands.

"I thought you worked under Sophia? She was your Aunt wasn't she?"

"She was but Yoshiki trained us as well, when we were children, before they split," said Fei, he pulled a chair from the corner of the room and set it in front of Michelle.

Serena glanced at Michelle then back to Rin, who was mixing another potion. "So what exactly happened with all of that? You know I never really understood the whole thing, the split, how Abby got Momiji."

Rin went rigid and hesitated for a moment. "The Master betrayed the Mistress."

The three of them were silent for a pregnant pause when finally Fei spoke, "Yoshiki and Abby had been lovers before he met Sophia. Apparently the rumor was that he had betrayed her and it ended up getting someone she loved killed. He owed her a blood debt and she fully intended to use it when the time came. Then a Seer told Abby about three girls, three witches who she could train as slayers. They would be the best, and they would change the face of our world forever."

Serena sat down, "She told Abby about us."

"Yes named you from the very beginning. So she sought you out and made a deal with your mother. When she found Momiji she knew she had an advantage. She forced the Master to pay up on his debt."

"He took Momiji from the Mistress," said Rin. "He used magic to erase and reform her memories then he gave her to the Lady."

"Why would he change Momiji's memoires?" asked Serena.

"A child who is taken from their parents forcibly wants to go back. They do whatever they can to return to their home. But what if that child thinks that her family abandoned her, what if she thinks they gave her up. That child would be less likely to try and return don't you think."

Serena shook her head racking her mind, "But Sophia came to visit Momiji I remember, she came a few times and then stopped."

Rin and Fei exchanged glances, then Rin said, "The Mistress did try to take her daughter back several times, but was unsuccessful."

"What?"

"Abby was a powerful witch, she could easily manipulate minds Serena. Those times Sophia came to 'visit' Momiji, those were the times where she tried to come and take her back."

"No I was there, I remember-" but Serena hesitated a moment. The memories were fuzzy, as if looking at the through a dirty window. "She came to the house," Serena muttered as thought back, then she remembered fire. Girls running through the house screaming trying to escape a shadowy figure. "She tried to take Momiji," she remembered running down the hall, seeing a woman holding Momiji's limp body. She remember Abby and Sophia fighting, Blake fighting with a teenage boy with white hair.

She looked up at Fei recognizing him, "You had two eyes back then."

Fei nodded, "I was young."

"She tried to take Momiji back…and then….and then…." She tried to remember.

"There was a flash of white light and it's all gone," said Rin her voice devoid of emotion.

Serena looked at Rin. She did remember the white light, but nothing after that. "Something erased our memories?"

"The Master used magic to transport us away, leaving Momiji behind and enraging Sophia. Abby probably used her magic to erase the rest of the night, you woke up thinking it was a bad dream."

"Momiji used to have dreams of fire, she was always talking about them with Abby."

"Abby would probably erase the memories, or tell her not to think about it."

Serena clenched her hands into fists. "We were manipulated our whole lives."

Rin glanced at Fei, who was guiltily looking away. "Yes," she said. "Your teacher was not the innocent good hearted woman you remember, she had an agenda just like everyone else. She used the three of you for your power, trained you to be her assassins, and exploited your for your heritage."

"What do you mean?"

"Did you think that all those allies were with her because of her charming nature?" Fei raised an eyebrow and Serena stared at him blankly. "She used the three of you to create ties in our world, three daughters all with powerful family ties. Two Rodericks and a Winthrop, those are powerful names no matter where you go and she took advantage of that knowledge."

Serena felt tears in her eyes, "She used us. How cruel."

"It happens," said Fei. "Someone always wants something."

Rin was about to speak again when Serena stood from her chair and stormed from the room. Fei and Rin were silent for a few moments.

"You think we shouldn't have told her?"

Rin hesitated. "No, it was the right thing they need to know the truth, and no one else is going to fess up."

"We just devastated her world."

"Sometimes we need an awakening. Especially if she's going to survive the things that are coming, she's going to have to let go of the silly little girl dreams she has."

"Someone's jaded."

Rin glared at Fei, "They put Abby on a pedestal that she didn't deserve." She looked up at the door where Serena had disappeared, "Someone needs to knock her off and turn the spotlight on her bloody hands."

"You'll never forgive her will you?" said Fei leaning back. "Because she ruined our little family, you'll never forgive that woman."

Rin turned away from him, "No I'll never forgive her because she made Momiji kill someone I loved."

Kusanagi stared at Hermione's face. She had not fought them when they had taken her to the lower levels, placed monitors around her, and stuck wires in her arm. She had barely made a sound. She had sat down, stared at the wall, then fell onto the med-bed and slept. Ami was running tests, her interns taking scans, whilst Lita held her limp hand, and Daniel sat in the corner wringing his hands and glancing around at everyone who came near his wife.

Finally after a long silence, broken only by the shuffling of papers and the beeping of monitors, Daniel spoke. "What's going on with her?"

Ami glanced at Kusanagi first, she knew as well as he how volatile Daniel was at the moment. Ami hesitated trying to find words that wouldn't upset him, she struggled there had been no positive results. She aired on the side of caution, "We haven't finished running tests," she said. "We'll have more information in a few hours."

"Damn it!" Daniel stood and turned over a metal tray. The instruments went clattering to the ground and everyone in the room went still. "Can you explain how we have to best and most advanced fucking technology that money could buy, and all you can tell me is you need more time?" He came around the table standing directly in front of Ami. "You've had months and you've done nothing!" he screamed.

"Daniel," Kusanagi stepped forward warning his brother.

"Fuck off Kusanagi this has nothing to do with you."

Kusanagi could see the paleness of his brothers skin, it had been some time since he had fed properly; his eyes were red and surrounded by dark circles; his hair was messed; his clothes were wrinkled and messy; he was all together not handling the stress well.

"You are not the only one who cares about Hermione," he told his brother. "Everyone here is doing the best that they can, you cannot ask for a more dedicated team."

"Fuck you, you don't understand you don't know what it is to lose watch the woman you love slowly die." He turned back to Hermione.

Ami caught Kusanagi's eye, she could see the pain within their depths. Though she wanted to remind the younger prince that his brother had lost his wife, two children, and his soul mate, she kept quiet. It would do no good to cause a row whilst Daniel was so upset.

Kusanagi took a deep breath, Daniel's presence was upsetting everyone and making people nervous, he needed to leave. "Daniel-"

"I know, I know," he snapped at his brother. "I'm psychic too remember." He gently touched Hermione's forehead and brushed away her bangs, leaning over her he kissed her cool skin, then pulled away and looked at Lita. "Watch everyone, and don't leave her side," he said.

Lita gave him a cut nod and tightened her grip on Hermione's hand.

Daniel turned away, he glared at Kusanagi. "I'm going for a drive call me if anything happens."

Kusanagi nodded and Daniel left, Ami waited a moment and then told her interns to return to their work. When things had settled down and the anxiety had lessened Ami went to Kusanagi.

"He didn't mean what he said."

Kusanagi gave her a gentle smile, "After several hundred years I've come to understand my brothers very well. That was nothing."

Ami smiled back, then it faded, "Kusanagi Serena told me that you saw-"

"You are a close friend Ami, a trusted friend, and an invaluable asset to our family. However, that is one issue that I will not discuss with you," his eyes turned stern and she knew the conversation was over.

She paused before turning back to her work, "I know you want to think about the best scenario, but whatever Sophia planned for Momiji it's probably not something good."

Daniel stormed through the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of tequila before kicking open the back door and walking outside. "Fucking bastard," he muttered as he tore off the cap and threw it away from him. "Treating me like a fucking invalid," he upended the bottle.

He continued walking, and muttering to himself, without taking notice of his surroundings. He kept on walking deeper and deeper into the woods until finally the bottle was drained. He threw it off to the side and it smashed against a tree. He wasn't even feeling the effects of it yet as he slumped down and leaned back against a tree.

He was in anguish, he had watched his wife for the past several months, all the while knowing that something was wrong, and he hadn't put any of the pieces together. He felt like a failure. He slammed his head backwards against the tree, "Damn it!" His voice echoed around him. He slammed his head back again, tears began to fall from his eyes, he slammed it again and more tears fell, he slammed it again, and again, and again until he was sobbing outright.

He wrapped his arms around his knees and put his face down into his arms. His whole body shook from the powerful sobs.

"Tisk tisk a Ambrose Prince crying all alone in the woods."

His head shot up and his body tensed, "Who's out there?"

No one answered him, save the wind. He stood knowing that he had heard a voice. "I demand-"

"You demand? You demand things of me?"

The voice had come from his right, he turned expecting someone to be standing before him, but he was alone. "Where are you?" he yelled.

"I'm right here."

This time it came from the left, he spun in that direction, but again saw nothing. "Who are you?" Silence answered him, he opened his senses to try and hear them breathing, the rustling of their clothing, or their heartbeat. But there was nothing, not a sound foreign to nature. Then he heard the snap of a twig behind him, he turned again, yet there was still nothing.

"Stop with these games!"

"Yes games," the voice was softer now. "You never did like games when you were little, and I tried to play them with you so many times."

Daniel's eyes widened, he recognized the voice. He turned and was finally face to face with the owner of the voice. His jaw dropped and he felt his knees weaken.

"Hello little brother."

When Momiji came to she was staring up at dark grey swirling clouds, cold raindrops fell on her face, and the wet ground was soaking through her coat and shirt. She groaned and sat up rubbing her temples. The last time her head had felt this way had been when she, Hermione, and Serena had run off to Rio for a week of Carnival partying. She tried to stand, but her legs shook and she stumbled back to her knees as a wave of vertigo hit.

Focusing her vision on a tree in the distance she tried to steady herself and wait for the world to stop tipping, but it didn't work and she fell over into fresh mud. She had only been sitting for a moment when her stomach decided that it wasn't a fan of being transported. She turned over quickly to brace herself on her hands and emptied the contents.

After she was finished she sat back on her legs and looked up to the sky, "Fuck that was a suck ass ride."

The rain cooling her feverish skin made her feel a little better, and the world had stopped moving. A few minutes later she was able to stand and took a moment to try to ascertain her surroundings. It took a second, but she recognized the mountains in the distance and the trees around her, she remembered the road, and the field, and in a half of a second she realized where she was.

She was home, or what had been her home. The house was gone, the barn, and many of the trees had been cleared. It was vastly different from the last time she had stood on the same land. Before there had been a smoking ruin of a house, an old tree, a dead tire swing, and a flaming barn. Now she stood in a quiet graveyard.

She'd heard rumors that Serena and Hermione had decided to use the land for a memorial to those who had fallen in battle. She had been told that this was now neutral ground for all of those who had lost their lives in what was now called "Time of the Outbreak", or in the time that had followed. Almost all those who had died seven years ago were buried there, all save her mother, father, and half-sister.

Off in the distance set away from the rest of the group she saw a single headstone and wondered who had been exiled so far away from the group. Not having the time to stop she walked through the rows looking for a certain name. As she walked she recognized some of the names engraved on the cold stones. She passed members of the Syndicate that she had known, girls who she had trained, men and women who had trained her, members of the Ambrose family, Seers and witches who had died a few years after her.

She knew who she was looking for, there was only one place Lenobia would have hidden Van's soul. It took her a while, but finally she stood in front of the grave. To any passing amateur it would look untouched, but Momiji could see the slight discoloration between the grass on the grave and the grass around it. Someone had disturbed the earth not too long ago, and then used magic to try and cover it up.

Momiji sighed, "You would be the one she picked."

Momiji kneeled down and wiped the grave marker off, it sparked and shocked her. "Damn protection spells," she muttered. She stood and wiped her hand off on her pants. She looked around making sure that there was no one to witness what she was doing. Well no one living anyways, she had felt the eyes of the dead since she had gotten her bearings back. She sighed, "I know the minute I do this I'm going to piss a lot of you off so I might as well get it over with."

Momiji closed her eyes and focused; she clenched her hands and concentrated on moving the dirt. The ground around her began to rumble, she continued as the terrain began to shake. She absorbed herself in her task, thinking of nothing save bringing the casket to the surface and pulling it through the heaps of dirt around it. She could feel it moving slowly inch by inch. She had it just beneath the surface when she suddenly felt something slam into her side and knock her to the ground a few feet away from the grave.

Momiji flipped over and saw the figure standing over her glaring at her angrily. "Disturbing someone in death isn't exactly the type of thing that people consider polite."

Momiji got to her feet, and spit blood out of her mouth. She had bit the inside of her cheek during her landing. "You know we never really met in life, but I seriously doubt I would have liked you."

She glared at Momiji, "I'm confident that we would have hated each other, which is why I don't feel any guilt about hating you now. It's because of you that the only thing I feel now is hate, hate towards your mother, and your master, your teacher. Hate towards the three women who stole my life from me, and hate towards your pathetic existence."

"Hey now I didn't steal anything from you," Momiji said putting her hands up. "You know I didn't think it'd be you that Lenobia would set up as a guard dog, I was sure it would be her." Momiji motioned to the grave.

"Lenobia knew my soul was angrier."

"And crazier," Momiji said. They stood in silence and the tension between them rose. "Well I suppose this is going to be fun."

"I suppose, but then don't know what you're definition of fun is."

"Oh Mina I'm sure this will be very fun."

Dun dun dun! o.o
