Chapter Thirteen
"Well that works fairly well," Emma glanced at Killian, "you live with him."
"Love, just because I live with him doesn't mean I can convince him to love the Evil Queen of all people." He sighed, "And in case you've forgotten, he doesn't appear to be too fond of me at the moment."
"How could that possibly be?" David mocked.
"It's my fault, not Killian's." Emma snapped.
"It's not your fault, love. We didn't know the rules of this land."
"Wait," Henry held his hand up and Emma giggled at the smear of whipped cream on his nose. Instinctively, she reached out with her own napkin and wiped it off before he continued, "what happened?"
"Robin wasn't exactly pleased to find us together because your father is a teacher and I'm a student."
Henry frowned, "You're a student? And you're a teacher? How old are you guys?"
Emma flushed at the question, "I'm eighteen and your father is twenty-two."
"Oh, okay, well it doesn't matter anyhow. You don't need jobs, you just need to make Robin and my mom love each other."
Killian shrugged, "Not like I have a job anymore."
"And it's not like I really need school." Emma agreed.
"Operation: Lovebirds is on." Henry pumped his fist excitedly.

Killian shut the door to his apartment lightly, "Ryan?" He called out.
"Hey, Jones." Ryan appeared from his bedroom a moment later, "So, about earlier"
Killian waved his hand, "Look, we clearly need to discuss the dynamics of everything, but let's just say for now that that particular fight is water under the bridge."
Moving into the common area, Robin took a seat at the kitchen table, "Agreed, but mate, a student?"
Killian sighed and sat down, "I know, I know, it's just she's just and" Killian sighed. Only when Emma was involved was often rendered utterly speechless.
"Bloody hell." Ryan shook his head, "You love her."
Killian's eyes held the truth, "More than I have ever loved anything or anyone. I didn't know it possible to love someone the way I love her."
"And her?"
"She loves me too, mate. For better or for worse, for my countless flaws, she just adores me." He grinned, "Though I'll never complain."
"I heard you resigned today."
"Seemed simpler."
"I also heard she moved in with the Nolan's. I know they've been trying for a child for years, but haven't been able to conceive. I don't know why they'd want an eighteen year old." He scratched his head.
"I think they just feel connected to her, like they understand her on a different level. And her being with them gets her out of that house and she won't have to survive on her own." He paused, "If I could I'd just move her into here with me."
"That sounds pretty serious pretty quickly." Ryan commented.
"It's been going on longer than you think." Killian admitted. At Ryan's disapproving look, Killian sighed, "Look, haven't you ever felt something for someone you couldn't have? Someone the world told you that it wouldn't work, but you just couldn't look away, couldn't stop, because the thought of not being with that person is the equivalent of having your heart ripped from your chest and crushed to dust? Even that fate would be kinder than not being with that person."
Robin seemed to ponder his words for a moment before he finally said, "No, I guess I haven't."
Killian's grin widened, "It's a bloody amazing feeling, mate. It's like the weight of the world is lifted from your shoulders, and everything is better when you're around her. Just, will you do me a favor?" Robin nodded tentatively, "Give her a chance. Let's have her over tomorrow night and just maybe you'll understand what I mean when you see us together."
Robin sighed and ran a hand over his face, "Fine."

"So," Emma opened the apartment door the next afternoon to find Killian in the living room, "Tink and I were talking this morning, she's staying with us now too, and we think someone needs to work on Regina, so I know that he's our son and that it's horrible to put him to work, but he's our best bet to get Regina to loosen up. What do you think?" She asked.
Killian chuckled, "Right to work then, lass?"
Emma shook her head and nearly pummeled him on the sofa, "No, not right to work, I just wanted to say it before we got distracted." She pressed her lips to his neck, "So?"
"I think it's a good idea, we'll bring it up with our lad." He flipped them so he was hovering above her on the sofa, "Now," his fingers skimmed down her arm in a tantalizing fashion, "onto more pleasurable activities perhaps?"
Emma arched her back so she was pressed firmly against him, "Please?" She whispered, "I've missed you, Killian." She murmured, "I can't even describe it." Her hands slid to the hem of his t-shirt, inching it up, the taunt muscles of his abdomen bunching beneath her fingertips, "I just," she squirmed beneath him, "I need you."
Killian smiled softly and rose, "Let's move this to a location where I can properly sate that need."
Emma quirked an eyebrow at him, "Race you there." She bounded around him and into the bedroom, laughing as he caught her and spun her around, pressing a kiss to her lips and pulling her own t-shirt over her head, reaching around to unclasp her bra.
Shoving her back lightly onto the bed, Killian stared down at her, "You're the most beautiful woman in all the realms, my love." He whispered, "I love you."
Reaching a hand out, she tugged him forward, "I love you too, Killian."

Emma bit her and stared into her tea cup as she, Robin and Killian sat around the living room. Dinner had been awkward. Robin had no idea how to act with her around. Sighing, she raked a hand through her hair, "This is stupid."
"What?" Robin asked.
"You're being unfair to Killian. I'm a legal adult and he's not some creepy, old man. It's legal, it's fair and it's good. We're so good together. And if you're really his friend then you should just support him." Emma snapped.
"Emma, love," Killian rested a hand on her knee, "it's okay."
"It's really not, I mean if you," she pointed to Robin, "fell in love with someone then he'd support you. No matter who it is." Robin shifted uncomfortably on the sofa and Emma narrowed her eyes, "What?"
"What do you mean 'what'?" Robin snapped.
"I mean you're hiding something."
"No I'm not."
Emma's eyes widened, "Oh yes you are, my lie detector is nearly overheating. You're lying through your teeth. You do love someone." She accused.
"What? No I don't." Robin held up his hand.
"Mate, who is she?" Killian eyed Emma cautiously.
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you." Robin muttered.
"Try me." Killian suggested.
Robin glared at Emma, "I really do not like you." He stated flatly. Emma just shrugged and crossed her arms, "Fine, but she doesn't know and she sure as hell doesn't feel the same bloody way." Killian and Emma stared at him expectantly, "Regina Mills."
