So, I didn't post this as soon as I'd wanted, but it was unedited and not that good, and I wanted to give you a good chapter, and I didn't get time to edit it until now. I'm sorry for the wait, but it was really bad before, all hurried and stuff. School is really busy right now, I had three big tests last week, plus an essay, so I haven't done anything but study, eat, and sleep, when I wasn't at school. But the chapter's here now, with a new twist. Someone guessed it right after the last chapter, but I think it's pretty unexpected, or maybe not. Anyway, I hope you'll enjoy the chapter!

*I don't own the characters, they belong to the wonderful Cassandra Clare, but I do own the plot.*

Going back to school was awful. Everyone in school were staring and talking, gossiping, but the minute I came within hearing distance, they went quiet. In Math, the girl I was sitting next to kept staring at me from behind her hair. She obviously thought she was being discreet. After twenty minutes, I gave a loud sigh and said;

"Is something wrong?"

The girl looked up quickly, surprised. "Nothing", she said hurriedly, and looked down quickly again. I rolled my eyes and went back to trying to concentrate, which wasn't an easy task with the girl still staring at me.

When Math finally ended, signalling the start of lunch, I was out of the room faster than anyone else, only to realize it was lunch. If class was that bad, how bad would lunch be?

Sophie met me at my locker, much to me relief. "Oh thank God!" I exclaimed when I saw her.

Sophie smiled. "That bad?" she asked.

"Everyone is staring! The girl next to me in Math spent the entire class staring at me!"

"You better get used to it", came a voice from behind me, and I turned to find Magnus there. "This school is pretty boring, for a school in London, and this is the most interesting thing that's happened since…" he broke off suddenly, as if remembering he shouldn't tell me.

I sighed. Would this be how my friends acted around me now? Keeping secrets, acting as if I would break?

"Hey", Clary said, who appeared behind Magnus with Simon and, to my surprise, Jace. Sure, they'd told me that they were now dating, but I wasn't prepared to see them in public like this. "Let's go eat! I'm starving!"

And so we went. When we got to the cafeteria I got a very weird feeling, almost as if something was missing. Almost as if by reflex, I turned to look at one particular table and for a reason I couldn't comprehend, something fluttered in my stomach when I saw Will. Then something that was unsettlingly close to my heart hurt when I noticed the girl on his lap. Why I would react like that, I had no idea. I hated Will. What did I care who sat on his lap?

Then our eyes locked, and something moved in his eyes, but it was gone before I could place it. Will frowned and turned his attention back to the blonde on his lap. Jem looked back at me, and he looked so sad that it broke my heart. I couldn't look him in the eye, and looked away. Suddenly, I didn't feel particularly hungry.

"I'm not really all that hungry", I told Sophie.

She looked at me, worried. "Are you sure?"

I nodded. "Yes", I said. "But you go ahead and eat. I'll be in the library."

Sophie laughed, but it was forced. It wasn't hard to notice how worried she was, but I ignored it. I tried not to run from the cafeteria, but it was probably the hardest thing I'd ever done.

When lunch was nearly over, I got up to go to my locker, but stopped at the entrance to the library, when I saw Sophie with Will. Sophie hated Will, that much I remembered.

"Are you mad?" she asked, and her voice sounded strained, as if she was trying not to yell. "Can you not see how it hurts her? I understand that it hurts that she doesn't remember, but pretending it didn't happen won't solve anything."

"And what exactly do you suggest I do? She doesn't remember, so it can't hurt her."

"She may not remember, but all those months, all those feelings, won't just disappear." Her voice softened. "You didn't see her in the cafeteria today. I did. She really did care, she just didn't understand it."

"So what do you suggest I do? Huh? Harass her? Confess my undying love for her?"

"Do what you did this fall. Make her fall in love with you again. Become her friend. I don't know, anything but what you're doing right now!" Her voice rose to a yell.

Will's eyes went cold. "What do you care, anyway? You hate me."

Sophie looked almost offended. "I may not like you, but I care about her. I don't want to see her hurt, and right now, you're hurting her. And just as I started to think you actually had some redeeming qualities, you go and do something like this."

"Well, you shouldn't", Will said, then turned and left. Sophie sighed and turned towards the library, and I hurried to the closest bookshelf and grabbed the closest book. Just a few seconds later I heard Sophie behind me.

"History?" she said. "I thought you preferred fiction?"

"I do", I said, "but I felt a little behind in class today, so I thought I'd do some independent studying, to catch up, you know." Totally a lie, and I felt terrible for lying to Sophie, but I couldn't tell her I'd heard her and Will. I needed a while to figure some things out. It was obvious they'd been talking about me, but it didn't make any sense.

The rest of the day was like a blur, until I got home and heard the second conversation I wasn't supposed to hear of the day. Nate was in the kitchen with someone else, and it soon became apparent it was a detective.

"First, I'd like to ask that my sister stays out of this", Nate said. "She's going through enough already, with the memory loss and everything."

"I can't promise that", the detective said. "We may have to talk to her again."

There was a pause. Finally, Nate said, "So it wasn't an accident?"

"We have reason to believe it was planned", he said. "I can't tell you the details. I just want to ask a few questions, okay?" Nate must've nodded, because the detective continued, "Does your sister have any enemies? Anyone who'd want to hurt her?"

"I don't know", Nate said. After that, I left. I wasn't ready to hear anymore.

A while later, someone knocked on my bedroom door, and Nate said, "Hey, sis? There's someone who wants to talk to you. Are you okay to talk?"

"Sure", I said as I opened the door. "Who is it?" I pretended to not know.

"Just a detective. He wants to ask a few questions, is all."

"But I already told them everything I know?" I said.

"Something… came up", Nate said.

The detective was still in the kitchen. He stood when I came in. "I'm detective Scott", he said. "I have a few questions."

I shook his hand. "Tessa", I said, although he probably already knew my name.

"So", he started. "We have reason to believe that your accident wasn't an accident."

I pretended disbelief. "What? But, I thought…" I trailed off.

"New evidence has been found", he said. "Do you have any enemies, someone who'd want to hurt you?"

I thought really hard. I really did. And came up empty. "I don't know", I said. "I don't think so."

Sorry for the short chapter. I really want to hear your theories after this chapter! What do you think happened? Do you think someone tried to kill Tessa, and if so, who? Hope you liked the chapter, and R&R, and I'll try to update soon!

PS: Have you read Lady Midnight yet? I started it yesterday, and I haven't gotten very far yet, but so far, so good. I can't wait to see what will happen, I'm so excited to read it!
