Chapter 14
After the incident in the library Saber stepped outside to the castle courtyard to get some air. He eventually calmed down and got his composure back as he found a spot to rest under a nearby tree. Sitting down on the ground the Saiyan crossed his arms and closed his eyes and slipped into a relaxed state. He couldn't explain it but Saber still felt tired and dozed off under the tree. Little did he know, he was being watched from across the courtyard.
Meanwhile Kristoff, Anna, Olaf and Sven were sitting at a nearby picnic table as they continued to spy on the Saiyan from across the courtyard.
"He's still a little leery of us; he's like a feral dog or something, the poor guy has serious trust issues!" Anna stated as Elsa walked up and joined the group.
"I think he just wants to find Stryker and get back to training. All those Saiyans ever think about is fighting- they're obsessed!" Kristoff stated while shaking his head. Suddenly Anna looked over to Elsa and teased, "You're the only person he seems to trust, Elsa. Who knows he might even have a thing for you!"
This made the Queen blush as she shushed her sister saying, "Quiet Anna! There's no telling how good his hearing may be!" The Princess enjoyed making her sister uncomfortable with the subject as she play yelled, "Hey Saber! Elsa's a real dish and she's available!" Elsa jumped forward and covered Anna's mouth and shrieked, "Are you insane?! What if he heard you?" The two sisters looked over to see if he heard Anna's provocative joke- Thankfully he didn't and continued napping under the tree. It was then Kristoff said, "Anna, I don't think that he came all this way for a date." The princess laughed and answered, "I know Kristoff but it's still fun making Elsa uncomfortable!"
Back under the tree Saber continued sleeping. At one point he heard the red headed woman yell something from across the courtyard. He briefly awoke to see her standing on top of the table with her hands cupped around her mouth as she shouted. Suddenly Elsa jumped up onto the table with her and shushed her, humans with their shenanigans….. The Queen seemed to be the only one with any sense around here!
A few more minutes went by before he heard an obnoxious giggling which caused him to open his eyes. He saw the annoying snowman Olaf grinning at him with his goofy smile. "HELLO!"
Saber didn't feel like putting up with Olaf and leaped onto a tree branch with lightning speed. Thankfully the branch had to at least be fifty feet off the ground as Saber closed his eyes again and drifted off. Moments later he heard the giggling again; opening his eyes Saber saw Olaf only inches from his face.
"What the- AGHHH!" The Saiyan prince wasn't expecting Olaf to have climbed the tree and surprise him. This made him fall back from the shock and crash to the ground on his back. Of course Olaf just had to follow him down there as he hopped down and landed on his chest. "Hi I'm Olaf and I owe you a warm hug!"
"And I owe you a knuckle sandwich!" Saber growled at him as he added, "You won't be happy until I'm dead will you?"
"But I'm always happy!" Olaf cheerfully said while Saber swiped him off and got back to his feet. "What do you want anyway?" The prince asked.
"I feel bad for causing you to get hurt and so I figured I'd make it up to you."
Saber rolled his eyes and sat back down crossing his arms. Olaf was very persistent as he waddled up to him and continued, "Please let me make it up to you?!"
"Grrrr…." Saber rolled his eyes and moved to the other side of the tree. He sat back down before Olaf was in his face again, "Pretty pretty please with a cherry on top?" It was clear that he wasn't going to give up and so Saber exhaled before asking, "Alright fine! But do you promise to leave me alone afterward?"
The snowman nodded his head and grinned, "Mmmhmm…."
"Alright fine what do you have in mind?"
"That's for me to know and you to find out. But I promise that you won't regret this one bit!" Olaf happily answered causing Saber to say, "Well we'll see about that won't we?"
A few minutes later Saber and Olaf made their way out of the castle courtyard and out the gates into Arendelle. As they made their way down the winding streets culture shock truly set in for the Saiyan.
Planet Vegeta had its fair share of towns as well but nothing like this. The small quaint city of Arendelle was very colorful and picturesque. Everyone seemed to be in a good mood and happily greeted one another as they went about their way. Even some of the local town folk politely nodded at him; however there were a few people who briskly avoided him. Was it the way he was dressed, or was it because his long tail which was out in plain sight? Perhaps both…
The two of them crossed another street when Saber asked Olaf, "Where exactly are we going?" The snowman only giggled and replied, "Just wait and see. We're almost there I promise!" Eventually the unlikely duo rounded a street corner and walked up to something extremely strange and alien to the Saiyan, a festival.
There was music and laughter and strange looking men whose faces were painted with all sorts of colors. People were going about eating all sorts of foods as they went around enjoying the festivities. Various stalls and tents littered the grounds while musical and talent shows grabbed the attention and fascination of large audiences around them. Looking down to Olaf, Saber asked, "This isn't what you had in mind to 'make it up to me' is it?" Unfortunately Olaf happily nodded and said, "Don't knock it until you've tried it! There's nothing that a little carnival fun can't fix!"
"No wonder your planet is so screwed up!" Thankfully the remark completely went over Olaf's head as the snowman giggled and lead the mighty Saiyan prince into the festival. Everything was so cheesy and carefree that it made Saber cringe on the inside. He just hoped that one of those stupid clowns didn't come up to him. Suddenly something shiny caught Saber's eye causing him to look down and find a golden coin. When he bent down to scoop it up Olaf said, "Wow you found an Arendelle dollar."
"Are they valuable?" The Saiyan asked as Olaf took out a copper coin and answered, "One Arendelle dollar is worth about five of these." This made Saber nod and say, "And it was on heads- must be my lucky day!"
A few minutes later the two of them approached something that mesmerized Olaf. Hanging up on a nearby stall was a giant blue stuffed butterfly toy. The snowman was obsessed with it as he waddled up to the stall in a total trance. "So big, so blue, SO FLUFFY!"
Saber thought that Olaf was about to have a heart attack or explode as excited as the snowman became. He rolled his eyes and attempted to go on his way when something glistened in the sunlight and caught his attention. When he walked up to the stall to investigate the source he gasped at what he saw, the three star Dragon all! The Saiyan prince couldn't believe his luck; here he was in the middle of this complete fuzzy fluff fun factory thinking it was a waste of time when here sat the next Dragon Ball! Walking up to the stall he noticed a middle aged man with a beer gut tending to it. The man was in the process of downing a flask filled with schnapps when he noticed a peculiar long haired man and a living snowman watching him. He put the flask down and belched before saying, "Welcome my friends! Do you wish to try your luck at my little game and win one of these fine prizes above my head here?" He asked while motioning to the numerous stuffed animals hanging on the wall.
Saber shook his head and answered, "No but I'll try it for that Dragon Ball back there!"
The carnie looked to where Saber was pointing and answered, "Oh that thing? That's just a worthless trinket that I found back in Denmark. I was going to pawn it for some beer money! I'm afraid you'll have to choose something else there pal!" Seeing that the man wasn't willing to part with the Dragon Ball Saber tried another approach, "Fair enough how about we raise the stakes then?"
"What did you have in mind?" The drunk belched before asking.
Saber answered as he took out his gold coin, "This is an Arendelle dollar and its worth about five of those copper coins that my friend has. So why don't we wager the following; my gold coin along with his copper coin against your Dragon Ball. If you win then you keep our money. But if we win then I get that Dragon Ball-" The prince quickly looked over to Olaf and said something totally unexpected, "Oh and that stupid stuffed butterfly. Even if we win you'll still get that copper coin for my attempt at your game."
The carnie rolled it over for a minute before answering, "Alright then, you gotta deal." He then exited the stall and motioned for Saber and Olaf to follow him. They approached a large metal pole as he began explaining everything to him. "You see that sledgehammer down there? The objective of this game is to take that hammer and slam it on the small platform at the base of this metal pole. See that metal ball at the base of the pole as well? When you hit the platform the ball shoots up; the harder you hit, the higher it goes. If you can hit the bell at the top of the pole with the ball then you win. Do you understand now?"
A devious grin crossed Saber's face while he replied, "Yep sounds easy enough. And I was hoping that you had a challenge for me!"
The carnie laughed to himself and handed the sledgehammer to Saber while saying, "Good luck! Meanwhile he thought, What a sucker. I have the game rigged to where that ball will never reach the top! The only person who ever hit the bell was Hercule, and the only reason he succeeded was from his immense strength!
Saber walked up to the platform with the hammer and stretched. He quickly looked over to Olaf and asked, "Want to see something cool?" After the snowman nodded Saber released a bloodthirsty grin and yelled, "Here goes nothing!" It was then he swung the sledgehammer over his head and brought it down with blinding force. Once the hammer made contact with the platform the ball shot up and hit the bell- and beyond that.
Not only did the small metal ball hit the bell, but it totally obliterated it and shot straight to the sky and disappeared. The carnie couldn't believe what he just saw as he continued looking up to the sky in awe. "How did you- but there's no way!" He looked back down towards Saber who was still smiling in satisfaction while saying, "Alright buddy you lost now cough it up!"
The man was still watching the sky in disbelief as he slowly walked to the stall. He grabbed both the Dragon Ball and the stuffed butterfly toy and handed them both to the Saiyan prince. When Saber and Olaf started walking away he flipped the copper coin over to the drunk causing it to land on tails in the man's hands. He eventually looked down at the coin and shook his head saying, "This is just not my day!" Right after he said that; his metal pole completely fell apart and crashed to the ground into hundreds of pieces… How could someone be that strong?
The unlikely duo made their way to the castle while Saber continued to hold the three star Dragon Ball. Olaf was merrily running along beside him while playing with his new toy. He happily exclaimed, "That was the coolest thing ever!" The Saiyan couldn't help but smile at Olaf's admiration. People could say what they wanted about his race, but being a Saiyan certainly had its benefits!
They eventually made their way back to the castle and into the courtyard as Olaf exclaimed, "That was so much fun, we should do this more often!" Saber wasn't so sure that he agreed with that second part but even he had to admit it, "Yeah that actually was kind of fun." Olaf's smile grew even wider knowing that the Saiyan enjoyed himself today as he replied to Saber, "And the look on that guys face was priceless when you shot the metal ball into the air!"
"Hahaha yeah what a chump!" He then looked down at the small snowman before saying, "You know I never thought that I would say this; but you're not so annoying after all. I'm glad we went out and did that." Saber's comment truly made Olaf's day as he looked up to the Saiyan with wide eyes and continued to grin. The two of them eventually arrived back at the large tree only to find Stryker there- and holding the six star Dragon Ball.
Seeing Saber in good health and walking around again lifted Stryker's spirits as he stood up and greeted him. "Out of all of the stubborn and resilient Saiyans out there; you are by far the worst, Uncle Saber. I leave you alone for half a day and you're going against doctor's orders and finding Dragon Balls!" The two Saiyans embraced as if they were brothers and slapped each other's backs before breaking away. Saber replied, "The Earthling's were very hospitable but I can't just lie in a bed feeling useless, it's not my style!" He then pointed to Olaf and said, "My new friend and I were just having a little carnival fun when we managed to find the next Dragon Ball." Hearing Saber refer to him as his new friend made Olaf really light up; still he knew better than to say anything and ruin the moment. Stryker replied, "So what now?"
"Well I promised the Queen that I would stay here in Arendelle until you got back. But now that you're here you and I can resume our training again. First things first though let's drop these Dragon Balls by the Lookout."
"Alright let's do it then!" Stryker happily replied. After their conversation ended the two of them shot into the air and were gone. Olaf continued to watch the skies before waddling off to join the others. Meanwhile Kristoff, Anna and Elsa were still sitting at the picnic table and enjoying a late lunch while Sven was happily eating something on the ground. The group noticed Olaf waddle up to them while holding a giant blue butterfly. When he plopped up onto the bench with them Anna asked, "That's such a cute butterfly, Olaf. Where did you get that?" Giggling at the Anna's question the happy snowman answered, "I got this at the carnival in town- Saber won it for me!"
No one was prepared for Olaf's answer as Kristoff spat out his drink from shock and Sven dropped his half eaten carrot from his mouth. "Saber what?" The mountain man asked in disbelief.
"He won it for me!" Olaf happily answered again before telling the full story of how he and Saber went to the carnival together. He told the group everything from finding the Dragon Ball, to making a wager with the drunken carnie, and of how Saber effortlessly won the game while totally destroying the large metal pole. He even happily recapped the part of the story of when Saber referred to him as his 'new friend' when talking to Stryker. Olaf's story truly put everyone into a state of shock. Not even Elsa could believe how much the Saiyan and Olaf had bonded from their time in town. After Olaf finished his story she smiled and thought, So you have a soft side after all!
"Where's Saber now?" She asked Olaf.
"He and Stryker went to the Lookout to drop the Dragon Balls off. They also said something about training after that." Although the Queen was glad to see Saber in good health again, something inside of her wished that he stuck around if only for a little longer. Suddenly Anna said something that lifted her spirits, "You know those two really aren't that bad. I mean I know they're Saiyans and are natural killers, but still. We aren't so different if you think about it; they're still people. I guess the point I'm trying to make is this; why don't we get to know them a little better. After all they are risking their lives and preparing to fight the dark lord Frieza. The least we can do is to invite them to dinner or something."
Elsa loved the idea and said, "It's settled then; tonight we'll invite Saber and Stryker for dinner!"
Saber and Stryker had accomplished much within the next few hours. After dropping the two Dragon Balls off at Kami's they made their way back to the training grounds and resumed their routine. As the sun started to lower in the sky the two Saiyans were in an intense match testing and improving their skills.
"KAAA-LIMM-BAAAAAA!" Saber shouted while shooting his infamous beam attack at Stryker who managed to dodge it and leap high into the air. The younger Saiyan then powered up even and shot his own high powered attack at Saber who deflected it. The attack harmlessly crashed into the already large crater from earlier and added to the damage. Suddenly Saber flew into the air and began throwing hundreds of punches at Stryker who did his best to block the attacks. Eventually the tide turned as the younger Saiyan went on the attack and Saber defended. After five more minutes of blocking and countering, Saber finally sustained a blow to the chest. Stryker knew better then to slow down at this point and instead continued his assault. He managed to deliver two kicks to the face and a dozen more punches. Little did he know that Saber was waiting for his nephew to tire out before he shifted the battle in his favor. It was then Saber landed numerous punches and a well placed roundhouse kick to the back of Stryker's head.
The sparring continued for another twenty minutes before something caught both of their attention ending the fight. "What is that?" Stryker asked aloud.
Saber squinted his eyes before he identified the giant snowflake and answered, "It's the Earthlings." Something stirred inside of him knowing that the Queen was coming. He couldn't explain it but Saber was glad to see her as he watched Snow-star land.
Elsa, Anna and Kristoff were on the snowflake as the Queen spoke, "Sorry to bother you two but we figured that we'd drop in and check up on you."
Much to Elsa's shock Saber actually smiled at her and replied, "I'm feeling fine, how're you?"
"Great! Anyway if the two of you were finished up on your training would either of you be interested in coming for dinner tonight?" Saber and Stryker looked to one another before the younger Saiyan answered, "I am kind of hungry."
It was then Saber gave his answer, "Sure, why not?"
This obviously pleased everyone including the Queen as Elsa smiled and replied, "Great! You may come anytime you'd like."
The Saiyan prince answered, "If it's alright with you Stryker and I are finished for the day anyway. Was it alright if we went ahead and followed you back?"
"Oh yes by all means!" Anna happily interjected.
For some reason Elsa began feeling nervous although in a good way as Snow-star began to lift off again. Once the snowflake flew off back to Arendelle, Anna teased her again, "He sure seemed happy to see you, Elsa!" The Queen playfully rolled her eyes at Anna but she couldn't deny that her sister was right. Saber did seem to brighten up once he saw her on Snow-star.
Meanwhile the two Saiyans were flying behind them as Stryker said, "Humans sure are friendly aren't they- and especially the Queen."
"Yeah they certainly are." Was all Saber could say while continuing to look straight ahead. Something stirred inside of him as they approached the castle and the Saiyan prince couldn't explain it. This Elsa truly had a strange effect on him. How could an Earthling have such a profound effect on the prince of all Saiyans? He was a warrior not some schoolboy! Yet this Queen was unlike anything he had ever encountered before, and not too bad to look at either…
Once they landed in the castle courtyard next to Snow-star, Saber felt a deep pit in his stomach. Looking down the warrior also noticed that his palms were sweaty.
He was a Saiyan; a deadly and fearless warrior, and yet he was nervous around this magical woman named Elsa. Once the snowflake took off and was out of sight, the princess merrily ran up to the Saiyans and said, "I'm so glad you accepted our invitation! I promise that you won't regret this evening one bit!"
A few moments later the group began making their way into the castle as the Saiyan followed them. Saber sighed and thought to himself, Well here goes nothing…..
