This chapter will be a bit short, but I think the next chapter will come along sooner as long as I can keep my muse going. Here is your chapter 14. It may seem a bit confusing, but I assure you everything will come to light soon enough. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me or leave a review and I will answer to the best of my ability.
Kanda eventually was able to catch up to Allen, finding him crying in an alley.
"Hey." Allen looked up. His face was red from all the tears and his nose was runny.
"What do you want?"
"I want you to get a hold of yourself. This is why many avoid relationships while at the Order, it causes too many distractions. You're supposed to help investigate, not sit around crying over some boy who broke your heart." Allen looked back down. "At least try talking it out with him. You don't know the whole story."
"What do I do…?"
"What do you mean?"
"I yelled at him… He probably hates me…"
"Really…? You've got to be kidding me! Why do I even get myself into this drama?! At least try talking to him. You never know. And wipe your face. You look like a blubbering child."
"Ok…" Allen stood up and used his hand to wipe the tears away. He sniffled and then breathed in deep and relaxed. He then perked up. "Do you hear that?"
"Hear what?"
"Sounds like some… sort of…" Allen started to fall, but Kanda caught him at the last second.
"H-Hey! What's going on?!" Allen was unconscious before Kanda had even caught him. "Short stack, answer me!" He shook Allen's shoulders, but gained no response. "Damn…" He lifted Allen up in his arms and started carrying him back to the inn. Upon arriving, he shouted, "You damn rabbit, where are you?!" A few seconds passed and Lavi came out from his room.
"What's-" Lavi gasped, "Allen!" He ran over to them. "What happened to him?"
"I don't know. He heard something and then fainted." Lavi felt nothing but worry for his young lover. Lavi held the room door open so Kanda could carry Allen in. He set Allen on the bed and Lavi covered him up with a blanket.
"What exactly did he hear?"
"He was in the middle of saying when he passed out."
"Oh…" Lavi sat on the edge of the bed and brushed the bangs off of Allen's forehead. He slept peacefully despite being unconscious. Lavi could see though that he had been crying. "Kanda, can I ask you something? Do you like Allen?"
"What the hell is this about?"
"Please, just answer." Lavi refused to turn to him and look him in the eye. If he had, he'd have seen Kanda roll his eyes at Lavi's request.
"Hell no! I don't even like him as a friend. He's annoying, he's childish. Honestly I don't know what you see in him."
"That's a relief…"
"Why ask me something so stupid?"
"Well… I guess I'm just paranoid. You've been acting different towards him, I just thought I'd ask."
"We have to keep an eye on him, you know? I'd rather he didn't get upset and run off and end up kidnapped. Despite how much I hate him, he's still valuable to the Order." Everything was silent for several minutes, mostly because Lavi didn't know how to respond. He felt ashamed of himself for not paying well enough attention to Allen, which could have costed him his life, as well as Lavi's.
"If something were to happen to Allen, I don't know what I'd do with myself…" Kanda let out a sigh.
"I'm going to check in with the Order, then I'm going back out looking for clues." Lavi nodded as Kanda left to confirm he heard what Kanda said. Lavi grabbed Allen's hand, feeling more concern when he felt Allen's hand was rather cold. That's when Allen woke up suddenly and sat up. He seemed to have been frightened by something.
"Is everything alright?"
"Lavi…?" Allen started to tear up.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Lavi sat closer and hugged him tight. Allen began sobbing into his chest.
"There was a fire… you were hurt… I tried to help you, but… something was pulling me away…"
"You must have had a nightmare." Lavi pulled away and grabbed Allen's chin to make him look up. "As you can see, I'm not hurt. I'm right here and you're right by my side." Lavi let Allen's chin go once he felt Allen would keep his head up on his own. "I'm really sorry I left you alone. I won't let it happen again, not as long as I can help it. I'll do more than try to protect you." Allen jumped up and wrapped his arms around Lavi's neck. Lavi was surprised at first, but then quickly hugged Allen very tightly. "I promise. I promise with all my heart." Allen relaxed in Lavi's arms, who was happy to have Allen back. "Can you forgive me for what happened?"
"I should be the one asking you for forgiveness…"
"There's nothing to forgive. I would have reacted the same way if I thought you were looking at others. Just know that ever since I met you, you've been the only cute face I see." Allen hugged Lavi tighter.
"I'm sorry…"
"You don't need to apologize." They broke away from each other. "So, are we good?" Allen nodded.
"We're good." Lavi smiled and kissed Allen quick on his lips then stood up.
"I wonder if they have any good food here."
"Thought I saw a restaurant nearby here. Should we go check it out?"
"Why not?" Lavi offered his hand for Allen to take. He helped him up and they both walked out after making sure the door was locked and Lavi had the key. "Maybe afterward, we could search for clues about those missing kids." Allen nodded. Lavi smiled and put a hand around Allen's shoulders and pulled him close. They had no idea a pair watched as the two boys left the inn to get something to eat, they hid in the shadows of the alley nearby, watching as the two walked away.
"Do you think I made a good choice?" A young voice asked.
"Indeed, my flower. He's a bit of an oddball, but that's what your mother loves, right?" A deep voice answered.
"Exactly. That's why I chose him. He seems so sweet and innocent. I knew just by the look in his beautiful silver eyes."
"Shall we take him away tonight?"
"I'm not sure. Seems mother's plan to separate the boy from his mate didn't go so well. They'll be difficult to separate."
"Perhaps I can be of assistance." Another voice said. She sounded to be quite young, younger than the other young voice.
"Who are you?" The deep voice asked.
"That does not matter. I can help, that is all that should matter to you."
